  • Itunes sharing with Photoshop Elements?

I have Photoshop Elements 9 on Windows 7.
My wife has an iPad 2. I'm getting an iPad 3.
When I set up iTunes syncing for my wife's iPad I created a folder of some special
family pictures and I just sync that one folder to her iPad.
I'm the photographer and PSE user in the house.
For my iPad I'd like to be able to share more of my PSE images.
I have about 8,000 and 32GB of images in PSE.
I have made extensive use of tag keywords to identify all the people, pets, places, events, etc. in the picture.
So I don't have a lot of albums. But I can find any picture by selecting the right keyword tags.
My understanding is that PSE stores the tag information back into the actual image.
I saw in iTunes on my Windows PC that there is a selection under Photos for Sharing with Photoshop.
What are my options there? For my new iPad. I think my wife's is ok as it is.
What I'd really like is to get a lot of the images from PSE onto my iPad.
And have that same keyword selection ability on the iPad so that I can find pictures easily.
If there is a better way to do that than through iTunes syncing then I'm open to that as well.
Thanks for any thoughts or advice. We love these iPads!

While I haven't heard a solution to posts I've made to both Adobe and iTunes sites, I have found a manual workaround.
The catalog files that iTunes uses are of the format "catalog.pseXdb".
In my case, the new catalog is "catalog.pse13db" and the old is "catalog.pse9db". These files are found in catalog folders like: C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Elements Organizer\Catalogs\Elements 9 Catalog
    With iTunes and PSE closed,
    1) copy the catalog.pse13db file to the "Elements 9 Catalog folder.
    2) rename the old catalog.pse9db file to keep it and deactivate it
    3) rename catalog.pse13db to catalog.pse9db
iTunes will continue to use the older catalog file, but it now has new catalog contents.  The manual part is that this will need to be done prior to each time you want to sync new catalog content to your devices.
Somewhere around PSE version 7, the catalog file format changed, so this technique may not work for upgrades from about v7 upward.

  • ITunes Sharing with Vista, Handbrake movies

I have two machines, a 10.5.7 Leopard, a fully updated Vista, and fully updated iTunes on each.
I am sharing music and videos via iTunes sharing from the Mac to the PC. The music works, the video does not, except for one. That single video was exported from Final Cut Pro as I recall, the rest were ripped with Handbrake. I suspect an issue with atoms. I don't want to copy any media to the Vista PC, I want sharing to work flawlessly.
    Can anyone help?

Well, I think that's ridiculous, especially since I have a legitimate use for this app. I have unencrypted student films that I made with other film students and have every legal right to possess as per the agreement the University of North Texas has with its students. Each member of my class was given a DVD, I watch everything on my Apple TV and computers, so what did I do, I ripped each of these 10 minutes shorts with Handbrake, because I love the H.264 codec. We shot our five films on 16mm and it is glorious on my Apple TV.
Commercials I was paid to make and had the original files to in Final Cut Pro were exported with Compressor, Apple TV preset. These play in Vista just fine.
Apple clearly thinks we have the right to use OUR OWN FILMS with iTunes, iMovie and Final Cut Pro both have export options for iTunes/iPhone/ATV.
So again, I implore the help of the forum. Can anyone help me get this junky Vista machine to play my films?

  • Itunes sharing with own icloud setup for family of 5

Hi, we currently have 4 iphones, 1 ipad, 3 ipods, and 1 pc all under one itunes account id.  However, we are now running into storage problems and my daughter just go a macbook pro and leaving for college.  So my question is how can we all still share purchased content but have our own storage? Is this possible and if so how do I go about setting this up? I don't want to set up a different itunes account for each person because my daughters often want the same songs and apps and I don't want to purchase them twice. Thanks in advance for any help!

To avoid sharing and merging your iCloud data, you will need to put each person's devices on a separate iCloud account with a separate ID.  You can continue to all share the same ID for iTunes; it does not need to be the same as the ID you use for iCloud.
Creating separate accounts will keep everyone's iCloud data separated, and give each person's devices their own 5GB of free storage for their device backups, and a separate iCloud email account/address.  However, Find My iPhone (iPad, iPod, Mac) is tied to the iCloud ID so they cannot be tracked together on the same map.  You will have to sign into each iCloud account separately (on icloud.com or the Find My iPhone app) in order to locate devices using that iCloud ID.

  • ITunes Sharing With Windows 7 Starter

I have 3 computers in my home. 2 run XP, 1 runs Windows 7 starter. All 3 have iTunes on them. I have sharing turned on for all of them. The 2 XP computers have no problem sharing a library. The 7 Starter netbook shows the library, but when I click on it to show the contents, it flashes on for a split second, then the shared library disappears from the menu. Any help would be appreciated.

Doublechecking bill ... what's the display resolution on the netbook? (In particular, is it at least 768 vertical?)
Checking because although iTunes will run on Starter, you might have some trouble changing preferences on a netbook with, say, a 600 vertical display, as per the following document:
iTunes: May not display all options at low screen resolutions

  • ITunes sharing with home PC

I want to have some of the music from my iPod on my home PC. I heard I can share iTunes with my home PC by sending via AOL IM, is this true?

No, to the best of my knowledge, it's not true, at least not other than by using a file-transfer feature (if such exists in AOL IM) to copy the track. The only way to share tracks with iTunes is by using the built-in sharing feature (which only works when the systems are on the same network) or by copying the tracks to the other computer.

  • ITunes sharing with multiple users on one iMac

I have a sizeable library that I would like to consolidate on our new iMac and allow four users (my family) to use the one library in their respective iTunes. There was a post last year for a solution to use aliases to accomplish this and I followed the steps as best I could. It sort of worked but I must have started with my iTunes library in a different location because it didn't work out as easily as the article shows.
    http://discussions.apple.com/post!reply.jspa?messageID=10283304
In order for the music to show up in iTunes even for the first user account, I had to "add" the music to library from the new location (the alias) essentially creating a new library. I guess that is due to the location of the extra files (e.g. library, extras, etc.). For the above method to work, where exactly do the library files (not the actual music files) need to be? Also, is there a way to use that folder called "Automatically Add to iTunes?" And lastly how do I reset some features, like playlists, using Time Machine? There doesn't seem to be much info into the advanced use and trouble shooting of iTunes.
I appreciate any help someone can provide.

Thanks but that doesn't really answer any of my questions. That method does not allow you to add songs from any account. You still have to manage multiple "library" files, add songs to the library manually for each user, and you end up with duplicate songs. The method that is linked in my previous post is a great one, I just need to know where the library files go in relation to the actual songs (meaning inside or outside of the iTunes folder). I guess I need to know how iTunes is set up "out of the box" since I have moved some stuff around and the data files and the music files are in different folders than they were (or would be) in a new installation.

  • ITunes sharing with my iPad

I used to be able to use my substantial iTunes library from my iPad. I tried doing that today - first time since the iOS7 update - and it was impossible for my computer and my iPad to establish any connection whatsoever over my local network. All settings relating to sharing are on and activated, and yet my iPad can get nowhere near my iTunes library. Very annoying. Is this an Apple problem, or something I can fix?

    Hi cdelcueto!

  • Itunes, Sharing with a friend.

I have some music I want to share with a friend. I wanted to know if it was possibe to make a playlist for her so when she plugs her ipod into my computer it won't upload all my songs. Also I don't want to have to remove the songs she doesn't want. Is there a way to create a playlist without removing my songs or using all my songs?

    That's real helpful.

  • How can i use apple tv and iTunes movies with component video cables for an older receiver and projector?

i have an older yamaha receiver and projector both without hdmi inputs but component video instead. I would like to get apple tv and start renting movies through iTunes but apple tv only supports hdmi and ive read that iTunes has codes to prevent the use ot analog cables with movies. Is there a way to adapt hdmi to component video for both apple tv and iTunes easily?

Yes, HDMI is the only supported method. Also, with converters you will run into issues with HDCP (which will prevent you from streaming DRM content from iTunes etc) as well as resolution.

  • Sharing Itunes library with another User Account & Fast Switching

Hi. I recently purchased a new iMac G5 and am in the process of setting it up to be used by 2 separate users (girlfriend and me). I apologize in advance if this is more of an Itunes issue and not solely an Administration issue.
My question deals with creating a new user account on my Mac (with Fast Switching) and allowing my girlfriend to share my iTunes library with the ability to transfer music to her ipod when she is logged into her own unique account. I will be the Administrator on the Mac.
We are trying to avoid loading our music two times into the Mac under each of our logins. Is there a way that we can share the music I have already loaded into my Itunes library when she is logged into her account so that she can transfer to her ipod and create her own distinct playlists? If so, any advice on how to enable this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Seth
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Unfortunately, baltwo's solution will not allow your girlfriend to create any playlists or copy songs to iPod.
The easiest thing would be to share the entire music folder, so anyone of you can listen to your music.
    You'd have two options.
If you want to be using the exact same library, so any playlist you created can be edited by your girlfriend and vice versa:
    1. Go to yourusername/Music/iTunes. You'll find two files called "iTunes library" and "iTunes music library" Copy them to your desktop, so you'll have a backup just in case.
    2. Move your yourusername/Music folder to computer/users/shared. (The folder will be copied ONLY in case your using FileVault, so you'd have to delete the original User/Music folder after making sure you'd got a functional copy at computer/users/shared) Select users/shared, press "apple+i" to get the info window, go to "Ownership" change all permissions to "read & write" and hit "apply to enclosed items"
    3. In case you're using FileVault, either delete or rename the original Music folder within your own account. Again, not necessary as long as FileVault isn't enabled.
    4. Select computer/users/shared/music, hold down "ctrl" while clicking on it and choose "create alias" from the contextual menu. Copy that alias into your homefolder as well as your girlfriend's account (need to log in) and rename it to "music" without the "alias" at the end.
    5. Launch iTunes. Done.
    6. Don't worry, in case you don't see your music. I've used a slightly different approach, yet this one should work totally fine.
If you want to listen to the same music, yet be able to set up your own playlists, ratings etc.:
    For your account:
    - go to yourusername/Music/iTunes, move "iTunes Music" to computer/users/shared and change ownership according to #2.
    - If FileVault is enabled, check #3. Of course, you want to rename the original "iTunes Music" in this case.
    - create an alias for computer/users/shared/iTunes Music and copy the alias to yourusername/Music/iTunes. Rename it to "iTunes Music" without "alias".
    - Launch iTunes. Should be working the way it used to. Quit.
    For your girlfriend's account:
    - log in, copy alias to username/Music/iTunes, rename alias.
    - Launch iTunes, go to File-> Add to Library, select username/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music, choose.
    That's it.
The only downside is, only one user at a time can access the music folder, so if you're logged in and running iTunes, you're girlfriend, logged in via fast user switching, won't be able to open iTunes until you quit it for yourself. Haven't found a way around this yet.
Fell free to report any issues.
    huhh...rather long posting...

  • Another "This itunes account is set up to use family sharing with a different icloud account than Apple ID "

I saw another thread on the matter but thought I would post because the circumstances are different. Here is how it happened.
I have had an Apple Store account for years and until recently our family has only had our one Mac and my iPhone 4. Thus any purchases we have made on the Apple App Store were made only with this account.
We recently purchased two iPhone 5S's--one for my wife and one for my daughter. Neither had Apple IDs so first we set up my wife's iPhone and created an Apple ID for her. Next we used the Family Sharing feature to set up an account for our "under age 13" daughter.
Because I am still waiting for my iPhone 6 Plus to arrive, and because the iPhone 4 cannot upgrade to iOS 8, and because my Apple ID is the only account with any apps that have been purchased in prior years, I set up my wife as the Family Organizer but when I set up her account, I chose the option to "share purchases from a different account" and entered the information for my Apple ID.
My daughter is able to view my prior purchases on her iPhone, but when my wife tries to view my prior purchases, she receives the message "This iTunes account is set up to use Family Sharing with a different iCloud account than <her Apple ID>."
I hope Apple is reading this. I would be more than willing to help them on this one as this feature is one of the main reasons I put our family on iPhones.

I had this problem. I finally figured it out yesterday. Try this:
On the device that is having trouble seeing purchases, go to Settings>iCloud>Family Sharing> Then tap on the user of the device you are on. Under "Family Purchases" make sure it has the AppleID of the person for that device. Mine originally had my husbands AppleID in there (he is the Organizer), but I changed it to mine. That doesn't make it so that the purchases are under me. The purchases remained under my husband, but my ID had to be in this spot for it to work.
After that, I closed settings, then I went to Settings>iTunes and App Store> click on the AppleID and Sign Out, even if it has the right AppleID in there. Then Sign In again using the AppleID of the person on that device. Again-- even if it has the right ID in there to start, still sign out and back in.
See if they show up. If they don't show up still, try doing a restart (hold down power button and home button until it restarts).
They should show up by then, but if they don't, at that point, try to go into iCloud and Sign Out and back in.
I think the key is having the right ID in "Family Purchases". I hope this works for you.
