ITunes showing triple of some songs

When I just installed iTunes, it seemed to import 3 files of most of my music. Now, I do have multiple copies of these songs in various folders over my computer. But I want iTunes to only take music from my My Music folder, and leave any other audio files that are elsewhere alone. How would I go about doing this?

Hi,
I suggest going to preferences> store and uncheck show iCloud purchases in the cloud.
I think there is a bug in iTunes. Even if track has been downloaded, it is also showing the version in the cloud. Not supposed to work this way? I believe the one with download icon should only be shown if the track is not physically in your iTunes library.

  • For iTunes Match, how come some songs "match" on an album and other songs on the same album "upload" without matching?

For iTunes Match, how come some songs "match" on an album and other songs on the same album "upload" without matching?  All songs are available on iTunes.  I don't get it!  Any way to manually match songs that iTunes apparently can't match?  I have hundreds in this unmatched state.

Shazam has NO problem determining what these songs are. Maybe Apple needs to consider licensing their technology as it seems MUCH more accurate than what they are doing.
You aren't comparing like with like.
The main task that Shazam has is to identify the name or a track and the artist. I believe that it suggests the album as well, but if it gets that wrong then it doesn't really matter too much.
With iTunes Match, getting the album (i.e. identifying which version it is) is much more important. If it gets that wrong then it breaks up the flow of an album. This makes the task that match has very much harder.
In fact, there is a strong argument to say that currently the problem iTunes has is that it is matching too many songs, resulting in matches from different albums.
I'm sure that match is not struggling to identify whether it has a song or not, but whether it has the correct version of a song. When you introduce different masterings into the process then, depending on the thresholds set, it is probably correct in concluding that it hasn't got a particular version, even if you think it has.
The solution would appear to me to be a tweaking of the matching thresholds along with the ability to force an upload, but we just don't know what restrictions they have (remember that if Shazam gets it wrong the it doesn't present you with a copy of a new track that you didn't have previously). It is almost certainly not just a case of improving their technology.

  • ITunes 11 has converted some songs to Quicktime movie format. How can I convert them back to MPEGs? format

iTunes 11 has converted some songs to Quicktime movie format. How can I convert them back to MPEGs?

I didn't mess with the iTunes Media folder previously, so I don't think that was the cause. Anyway, I manually fixed most of the songs, but I still can't figure out how to fix the movies that became listed as songs.
Here is a screenshot of what it looks like when I click on "Get Info" for one of the movies (which has ended up in the music section on iTunes):
There is no option to change the media kind to "movie" or "video" even though it is a movie and it still plays as a movie if I press play.

  • Me and my dad share an iTunes account and all of his music he has purchased on ITunes shows up on my songs list with a cloud icon next to it. How do I get rid of these from my songs list? Cuz it's doing the same thing on my iPhone

Me and my dad share an iTunes account and all of his music he has purchased on ITunes shows up on my songs list with a cloud icon next to it. How do I get rid of these from my songs list? Cuz it's doing the same thing on my iPhone.

Go to Edit > Preferences > Store, and uncheck the box for "Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases."

  • ITunes does not open some songs

I bought some songs off an online store and when I double click them the iTunes icon bounces in the dock once and brings the window to the front but nothing happens. When I drag, them to the iTunes window, it recognizes me attempting to add songs (with a blue border around the library) but then nothing happens. This is not the first set of music to have done this, and this is not iTunes 10 specific.
I have checked all of the ID3 tags and even tried renaming the files, but to no avail.
Any reason why this is happening?

if those songs are in mp3 format, try running them by _*MP3 Validator*_.

  • My Itunes library is skipping some songs which is also affecting my ipod, it is always the same songs that skip at the same place, it is not all songs.

Since moving my Itunes to a Vista, it found songs that I downloaded a long time ago and added them to my library but now some songs (not just the ones that were lost in apple land) are skipping after playing a few seconds then it moves onto another song.  The same songs are skipping at the same place when played on a computer and also my ipod.

i noticed this as a bug in iTunes. make sure the correct file is selected in the preferences menus. It does not have to be the default location directiory as Vazandrew stated. your iTunes music library can be anywhere you want it. i have mine on an external cuz i'm a dj and have over 80,000 songs.
once you select/verify the location of your music library, simply drag the folder into the left panel in iTunes from a finder window. iTunes does not automatically add the items like it use to for some reason.

  • Itunes shows importing but no songs appear on ipod

    Hi,
Can anyone help with this problem. ITunes shows that all songs are being automatically updated and comes up with the message that it is all complete. Then we check the ipod and there are no songs on there.
    Thanks

  • ITunes can't find some songs after update

So I've read a bit about this and it's happened to me now. I did the recent iTunes upgrade and now random song files can't be found. The " ! "shows up here and there. Now when I search for that particular song, I can find and play it. It's just that maybe it was renamed or something? I cannot manually do this since I have almost 40,000 songs on a separate HD. 99% ripped from my CD collection.
Why or how does this happen? I've been adding to my iTunes HD for 7 years or so and this was the first time this has happened.
Anyway I read a few suggestions and so I just deleted all the music from itunes BUT saved the files and now adding all of them back which will probably take 10-15 hours. It says "organizing files" wil it's a very long haul.
Will this work and will iTunes then again know where all of my songs are?

Well I researched and had to "delete" the 40,000 songs from my itunes list BUT saved the files. It took 20 hours for them to repair and then were fixed in one place with no "!" What a pain.

  • Itunes is wrongfully saying some songs have been authorized on more than 5 computers -- please help!

Hi, can someone please help me.  ITunes is saying that some of my songs have been authorized on more than five laptops, which isn't true--it's not letting me play those songs, and I have no way of deauthorizing the accounts on three of my old laptops.  Please help!

If you have any other computers, have ever created alternate iTunes libraries or used iTunes in other user accounts, you might want want to try and deauthorize all. Then you can authorize the computers you are currently using  with iTunes.
    (From http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420)
You can use or sync your purchases from the iTunes Store on up to five different  computers (these can be any mix of Macintosh or Windows-compatible  computers). When you sync or play an item you've purchased, your computer is  "authorized" for purchase using your Apple ID.
To deauthorize all computers associated with your Apple ID
If you need to authorize your new computer and are unable due to already having five authorized computers, you can deauthorize all computers by doing the following:
Click iTunes Store on the left side of iTunes.
If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.
Click the Account button again (your Apple ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.
In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.
Note: You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than two authorized computers. If you need assistance on using this feature, please contact iTunes Store support via email (http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/).

  • Itunes can't copy some songs to my ipod

So I keep getting a warning from itunes that it can't copy 3 songs from my library to my ipod. This is what the error says word for word.
"Some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPod because one or more errors occurred." It than lists the 3 songs that weren't transfered. The weird thing is that they songs were originally on my ipod but since I lowered the bitrate of all my songs, now they can't be on my ipod. It's weird because I've never had this issue until I changed the bitrate. And the songs that are giving me troubles are songs from different albums and different means of getting them. One was from a CD, the other from digital download and the other was from iTunes it's self. So... their good songs and I miss listening to them. What do I do?

    Hello the_atm
If the songs are having issues syncing to your iPod, see if you can create a new version of the songs in either MP3 or AAC format and then sync it across again. You said one of the songs was a purchase from iTunes, try deleting the songs and then download it again if it will not convert.

  • How do I get all of the music on my computer to transfer to my Iphone?  For some reason, itunes has picked up some songs but not others.  example, I have several CD's loaded in which only 1 or 2 songs from the CD shows up in itunes.

I have about 70 Cd's loaded on my computer as I had previously owned another MP3 device before I got enamored with the Ipad and Iphone. My problem is itunes will not recognize all of this music.  To give a specific example, I have an old Bon Jovi Cd "crossroads" , itunes only recognizes 2 songs off the Cd.  How can I get itunes to recognize these songs?  They do not show up on itunes anywhere but if i go to my music folder I can locate the songs and it even shows the itunes logo but, the songs will not play with itunes.  I've got a few hours of music i would like to have on my iphone. Can anyone please help me with this?

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything on the computer, then sync.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup, not good, then you can transfer itunes purchases from your iphone to your computer - File>Devices>Transfer Purchases

  • ITunes can't find some songs - can anybody help?

(I'm reposting this question because the thread it was in was marked as "Answered" - but it wasn't answered, and nobody was replying.)
My iTunes library was on an external drive, and it was working just fine. Then there were some problems with the external drive, so I bought a new external drive and loaded the entire iTunes library onto it. (I followed Apple's instructions for doing this.)
I set preferences to use the iTunes folder on the new external drive. When I launched iTunes, all the music appears, as do all of the playlists that I created. It looked like everything was OK with the new hard drive - until I looked more closely and saw exclamation points next to some of the songs in my music library.
Here is the problem: iTunes says it "can't find" the locations of about 5% of the songs in my library (that's about 300 songs). Those are the songs with the exclamation points next to them. When I try to play them, iTunes says it can't find the file.
If I click on one of the "lost" songs to try to play it, iTunes presents a dialog box that lets me navigate my way to that song to show iTunes where it is, and then iTunes can play it. Theoretically this is a solution, but I don't want to do that for about 300 songs - it would take hours.
All of the "lost" songs are in my iTunes music folder. There doesn't seem to be anything unusual or unique about the lost songs.
I searched Apple's support pages for help on this, and I searched this forum (iTunes for Mac), and I couldn't find an answer. It looks like a fairly common problem - I see other posts with similar problems, but I haven't seen a solution yet.
Any ideas what causes this? And (more importantly) any suggestions for how to get iTunes to recognize the location of those songs with the exclamation points?

The suggestions that I received didn't solve my problem, but they did result in a duplication of my entire library - and I didn't relish the thought of deleting 6100 duplicate songs, one-by-one. I finally solved both problems by rebuilding the iTunes library. It was pretty easy to do, and it cleaned things up quite well.
There is an Apple tech support document that describes how to do this, but it's a bit hard to find. If you search for "rebuild iTunes library", you won't find it. You have to search for "re-create iTunes library" with a hyphen stuck in the middle of the word recreate. Then you will find this link...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
...which guides you step-by-step through the process of rebuilding the iTunes library. This got rid of duplicates, it re-established broken links, and it found a few songs that for some reason had not been in the previous library.

  • Itunes is not marking some songs as "Purchased".

I have purchased multiple songs on itunes and some of them tend to not get marked as purchased in the store. A few of them can be played from the store but if you click it, it still shows the price and not that its purchased. One of the songs doesn't even have the play button in itunes, it just shows the price when i already purchased it, it shows up in my itunes purchased list on my computer as well as its in my phones purchase playlist but in itunes it doesnt have it as purchased. I know i still have the songs but it kinda bothers me that they are not marked as purchased.
Does nayone know any solutions for this? Thank you for reading and taking time to help.

That is not a bug, it's simply the way it works.
If you listen to something on your iPhone, the iOS makes a note of that fact, by adding a 1 to the play count. When you Sync the iPhone with your iTunes Library, the iPhone and iTunes "talk to each other" and iTunes makes a note that you have listened to something (on the phone) that is in its Library. This includes marking that Podcast as played.
However, even though you know you're listening to the same episode of that Podcast via streaming, it is not possible for either the phone or iTunes to know that. That's why you're smarter than the machines!
The only "fix" is (possibly), to remove something from the phone so that there is room for the Podcast.

  • How do I transfer all of my songs from Iphone to itunes as lost everything, some songs are not bought from itunes and have been from borrowed CD's but I really want them in itunes library?

Hello, Please help as I tunes havent got back to me yet!!
A couple of months ago, I lost all of my music/itunes etc as my computer needed a complete restore. When it re-installed itunes there was no songs on it at all and would only let me transfer the purchases made on my iphone from itunes back onto my library. The problem I have is that I want to upgrade my phone to the iphone4 but dont want to lose all of the songs on my iphone, some are downloaded from the itunes, most are from CD's that I still own but there are some great songs that I have put on from borrowed CD's or another download company i.e. hmv music downloads and those are the songs it will not let me transfer into the library on my computer so when I get the new phone, I could just sync and they will all be there.
Please help as I do not want to lose any of my songs
    Thank you

for purchases from the iTunes store do this:
connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
for everything else check out this post by Zevoneer.

  • I used  Ion Profile Pro to digitize quite a few records. However on some records, it will not recognize them and sync them in iTunes. Perhaps because some songs "ran together" when copied or titles were misspelled. Can I get iTunes to recognize them?

I used Ion Profile Pro turntable to digitize some old records. It worked fine for most of the records, but on five or six albums I get an error message saying "the original file can't be found" and it won't transfer them to my iPod Touch. However, the files are on my hard disk digitized and I can click on them and play them in Windows Media Player. When I go to iTunes, the records (or the CD created from the original records) exits in the iTunes libraries for sale. However, in some cases, the contents of the album offered for sale differs slightly from the original record, or the songs exist on different albums, but not the original album that I had. In some cases minor misspellings occurred on a few titles when they were entered in the ION softwareon my computer. In a few cases, it seemed as if ION did not recognize that there were two or three songs and ran them all together as one and again, my song list does not exactly match Apple's.
I own these songs, but iTunes won't put them on my iPod Touch. Is there anything I can do (short of paying for songs I already own) to get Apple to recognize these songs?

You seem to have an iTunes problem, not an iPod problem.  Try posting in the iTunes forum.
