ITunes shows added music but won't play

Hi,
I recently started having problems with newly added mp3's to my iTunes library. iTunes appears to have added the song to my library, as it shows up in the recently added playlists and music tab, however when I click to play the song, it skips to the last song that was successfully added. The issue is not limited to just a single mp3, it's won't allow me to properly add any new music at all now. I checked for software updates, and I'm running the latest version. I have also restarted iTunes, my Macbook Air and attempted adding new music with iTunes Match turned off without any success. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

I bought my wife a iPod Nano. It was sent back to Apple. I visited Aplle Store Genius' multiple times, and even got it exchanged, giving up the oringinal engraved one. Yes, it has the problem of not playing purchased Itunes songs, but it will work for while, then start skipping those purchased songs, then for no reason, starts working again! No one has any idea what to do. It has to be something with the software since this is Nano #2. I've tried everything that has been recommended. The fact that it is intermittant is the bigget mystery of all. I just turned it on and its working. When we try it later, it may not. Any ideas that any one has will be appreciated. Thanks

Check the manual for whatever backup program you used, or, if you just copied the files over, copy them that.

I rented a movie through iTunes and it downloaded but won't play.

I rented a movie through iTunes and it downloaded but won't play. It is present in the videos app but doesn't load the picture for the movie. When I go to play it, it just opens and then closes. There is an iCloud icon that suggests the movie has not Been downloaded and when I click it it says that the movie has already been rented but not downloaded and that I need to go to downloads to manage it. It is not present in my iTunes download page however. And when I go to rent it again all I get is a watch button that directs me back to the videos app with no way to watch it.

If you are not able to play or download a movie rental on your iPad, first restart your device:
Restarting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Note: Reset your device only if you are unable to restart it.
Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

After your iPad restarts, try resuming the download again:

From the Home screen, tap the iTunes app.

Tap the blue download arrow to resume.

Songs I downloaded onto my ipod have transferred to itunes on my laptop but won't play on my device.

Some songs I have purchased from itunes won't play on my ipod but work perfectly on my laptop. Even plugging my ipod into the laptop and syncing it hasn't worked, but the artwork and information for the song still exist on my device. Any ideas?

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

- Unsync all music and resync
- Try deleting from iPod and directly redownloading by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

ITunes sees the music but will not play anything

First I would like to thank anyone who addresses this issue in advance! I have been trying to figure out the problem for some time and obviously have been unsuccessful. I also apologize if it is an easy fix and I was too dimwitted to figure it out on my own.
I can open iTunes and see all of my music. I can see my playlists, purchased music and all of the music in my library. However, when I try and double-click or select play from the drop-down menu nothing happens. I even tried to purchase a new song and listen to it, but still nothing. I checked the deauthorize feature, but it is not set.
Any advise, tips or replies are appreciated!

play a song in itunes, does that little
diamond-shaped thingy stay firmly stuck to the left? Yes
if so, next let's explicitly doublecheck your precise
itunes version number. in itunes, go "help > about
itunes" and wait for the version number to scroll up
from the bottom of the screen. (for example, mine
says "itunes 6.0.5.20") 6.0.5.2
if you've got an itunes version 5.0.0.35, 5.0.1.4,
6.0.0.18 or 6.0.1.3
... first let's check on this possibility:
iTunes for Windows: Audio files do not play in
iTunes 5 or 6
if you've got an itunes version 6.0.2.23 or
higher, or the compatibility settings thing wasn't a
factor for you
... then first we'll try a careful standalone QT 7.1
reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone
installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install
from there rather than online.) switch off
antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the
install.
Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes
play audio properly again? Yes, this did the trick!
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone
reinstall, let us know what it says. include error

Ok, so I synched my iphone 4 to my computer recently and now when I go to play music on my phone, only the songs I've bought on Itunes play. I put all of my music collection that is in CD form on my computer and it used to play on my phone too, but now it just skips those songs. They still play on my computer though. De-sync all your music to remove it from the device, then restart (hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go). Now re-sync your music.

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past purchases, delete the current copies from your iTunes library and then download again using the Purchased link in the right-hand column of the iTunes Store home page, or transfer them from the iPhone again.

TS1702 the recorder app in my iphone5 shows the files but won't play them. I also cannot transfer them to my computer. The file list shows up under file sharing in itunes but when I try to save the file it says it's not there. Help. Everything is updated.

Back up first (Time machine) as much as possible.
Un-install and re install Itunes.
First and foremost download the updated iTunes from apple website. After downloading Uninstall itunes and all its component ( Dont worry, itunes library where your movies and music is located will not be deleted. Please follow instructions on the apple support page). The problem might be the AppleMobileDevice.kext

I purchased Too Close from iTunes for $1.29. It' listed in my music but won't play on ipod or computer. It just skips to the next song. The forum says just download it again. But why do I have to pay twice?

If you are in a country where re-downloading is possible (iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match Availability by Country - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085), delete the track (and the original file) and download again (Downloading [using iOS or computer] past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519). Incomplete playback seems to be reported several times a day here. I don't recall this happening before iTunes 10. I would suggest posting feedback to Apple so they aware of an issue.

External Video Monitor shows still picture but won't play

I have a sony minidv deck for external device control and a sony trinitron monitor. I am using FCP 6.0 and a imac intel core. It had been working fine, but now I can't get a playback. The monitor only shows the most recent still image of what was played. i'v replaced the firewire cord so that's not it. The deck palys dv tapes on the monitor fine. Any ideas what the problem could be?

If you are working with DV, this is simple. First connect your computer to a camera or deck via firewire, Then connect the camera/deck to your TV/Monitor via RCA or S-Video.
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Go to the View Menu, choose > External video > all frames
VIEW>Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
VIEW>Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section.
If you are working with HDV footage, FCP 6 allows you to view this via firewire, but ONLY as downconverted DV. It won't look the best, but you can see it. To do this,
If you need to view any format other than DV at full resolution, then you need to look into capture cards. Several standard definition and high definition models are available from www.aja.com and www.decklink.com. With these options you'll need a proper monitor to view full broadcast colors, but all models allow for realtime standard definition downconvert, allowing you to view HD on an SD monitor.
The Matrox MXO is another option that is output only, but allows you to view your footage on an Apple Cinema Display at full broadcast quality.

ITunes shows my music but when I connect iPod it shows all my music twice

I recently purchased a new computer so I used my iPod as an external hard drive to move my songs. I upgraded my iPod software and installed the latest and greatest iTunes on my new laptop. I thought everything went well until I contacted my iPod to my new computer. The iPod updated and I was able to view my iPod in iTunes. But I can't play any of the songs from the iPod folders (Recently Played, Top 25, etc). I can't even highlight the songs that are categorized under my iPod. I can play all my songs from my library in iTunes when the iPod is connected to the computer or not. Why are all of my songs showing up in iTunes twice when the iPod is connected? I know it didn't do this before the upgrade. Where did I mess up? Please help.

Apple TV shows all menus but won't play videos

Hello. I have a 3rd generation Apple TV, and it has the latest software update...in fact I just reset it because of my problem. I travel through all the menus, including iTunes, Netflix, and HBOGo (Yes, I have accounts on both). When I get to the movie I want I can see the description and all the buttons. When I try to play a video, I get the circle for a second, then the load bar, and then it reverts back to the menu. It does it in iTunes, Netflix, and HBOGO. I have hooked it to two different ISPs and through two different modem/routers, and the same problem happens. This is very new. Did an update just happen? Is anyone else having this problem, and even better, did you figure out how to get around it? Thanks.

My apologies. It turned out that the new system that was on my iMac was responding to the apple remote together with the apple tv. Somehow the iMac was overriding the play of the video by a split second and continually starting airplay and trying to play a nonexistent song. Perhaps this will help someone.

Sometimes the audiobook will play, then disappear from iPod's play menu after I reconnect to iTunes and load more music. I've got plenty of free memory, and iTunes shows the files still on iPod.
....or should I just roll it back to iOS 5... never had these kinds of issues with the old OS.

I've just connected the ipod to my computer and checked the music on the iPod. The album that I am having trouble with shows an exclamation symbol next to it.
