ITunes shows two shared libraries

Hi,
Really annoying problem.
I have an iMac with my main iTunes library on, and sharing this over a wireless network. Also have home sharing enabled.
On my MacBook Pro, it shows the shared library twice. When I enable the home sharing on the MBP, this also shows twice.
If I disable wither the home sharing or shared library, these disappear, but still shows a duplicate library.
Any ideas, as this is annoying me.
Thanks

I had thesame problem, but found the solution - there are two ways to enable sharing - either through the Advanced menu by turning on Home Sharing, or in the preferences under Sharing and 'Share library on my local network'
If you have both switched on you will get a double library.

In my  iPhoto application when I select switch libraries It shows 2 libraries with the same name, but one has the name is in Capital letters.
They both open the same library which is in the Pictures folder. This is the only library I can see and the name is not in capital letters?
How do I get rid of the one in capital letters

    What is your iPhoto version?
when I select switch libraries It shows 2 libraries with the same name, but one has the name is in Capital letters.
In the Library Chooser Panel look for the pathes to the two duplicate libraries. You will see the location of the libraries in the path bar at the bottom of the window when you select one of the libraries. Does it show both libraries in the same folder?

  • How do you copy songs between two shared libraries?

I have a mac book, hubby has a pc. We have set up home sharing and can see and listen to each others songs. However he has spent the time taking adding music from our CD's to his library. I would like to copy songs from his library and place them in mine but am having no luck. I have tried looking for answers on the forums but have not been successful finding any answers. I have tried copy paste and import. I am sure I am doing something wrong but have no idea what it is. Can someone out there please help?

iTunes has two kinds of sharing!
*Regular sharing* allows viewing and listening, but not copying.
*Home sharing* is the one you want; it allows copying as well. Here is the link to the support article for Home Sharing: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819

  • Downloads to iPhone gone after sync with iTunes 9 and shared libraries

I have songs that I downloaded directly to my iPhone 3g-s. After the first time I synched the iPhone to my laptop after installing iTunes 9 and sharing songs with my desktop, songs have disappeared from my iPhone. When I search the song, the title is there but when I click the song, it says to purchase the song from iTunes. The songs are on neither of the 2 computers sharing songs. However, only some of the songs that I had downloaded directly to the iPhone from iTunes have disappeared.

I read another post here and the solution is simple: goto file and select 'Transfer Purchases from iPod". It works perfectly!

  • ITunes shows two sets of playlists after loading at school

I loaded three playlists worth of language material at school onto my iPod, and when I got home, I downloaded new songs and imported new songs, and then plugged my iPod into the computer. However, my computer displayed under my iPod in the playlist column TWO SEPARATE groups of playlists, one (which was tabbed in a bit) consisting of my original playlists and the three new ones loaded at school, the second group containing my playlists WITHOUT those 3 playlists, and the new songs I had downlaoded when I got home.
Please help! I need to know how to put ALL of my material into my iPod from home! Meaning, I need...
    1) my original playlists
    2) my language playlists
    3) my new songs
I'm leaving for vacation in 15 minutes and I would love to bring my new songs....
    Thanks

Thanks very much for your reply, but it doesn't look like there's a suitable option for me at the moment. I only want one music folder and I want all music accessible to both users/iPods, just with independent ratings. There appears to be a number of ways of doing this but none without a lot of duplication of effort. I have 95Gb of music which is constantly being added to and deleted from as buy new music and remove duplicates etc. I put a fair amount of time into refining ratings and playlists in order to improve the quality of the stuff I listen to and I don't want to start making lists of the things I add/delete and then have to log into another iTunes session to repeat the exercise. It seems a shame that iTunes can't offer a practical solution to the notion that two people might have slightly (not completely) different tastes in music. I'm certain this sort of thing will have to be looked at in future, especially now there are plenty of iPod families out there.
Thanks again to all of the above for your replies.

  • Upgraded iTunes, cant access shared libraries anymore

I'm certain its the upgrade that did it because its the second time on the same machine. (had to do a time machine restore, and it stopped working before the restore, as well as applying the update after the restore.
The vista pc on my network can see my shared library, but I can't see the library on the vista pc.
    Ideas?

Weird. It was happening between "non equivalent" iTunes Library in the former versions of iTunes (with MacOS at least, in my case).
With the 8th version, I can now listen to my shared Leopard iTunes v. 8 Library on the PM G5 in my office, with my Panther v7 iTunes on my PB400 in the living-room.
Have you tried to suppress the account shared in iTunes Prefs/Port in Firewall and do another time with setting a new access/password ?

  • Itunes shows two "purchased on 'my' phone lists"

In the left panel in itunes, under "Store", there are four groups/lists: "Itunes Store", "Purchased", then "Purchased on <my> iPhone" twice. The lists in the the two "purchased on my iphone" are mutually exclusive and does represent everything I've puchased on my iphone.
Any ideas why is this happenening? More importantly, any ideas on whether it matters?

No idea why this happened. It doesn't matter as all the music is also in your music library. You could delete these smart playlists with no effect on your music.

  • ITunes not finding shared libraries

Does anyone have any references for this?

We'll need a lot more detail about your setup and the exact problem before anyone can be of much assistance. If you are indeed running a Mac as your profile indicates, you'll probably want to start over in the iTunes for Mac area.
    Regards.

  • ITunes 9.1.0.79 No longer shows shared libraries.

Hi all. If you install this version and you no longer see any shared libraries on the network anymore, then do the following.
    1. Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs
    2. Uninstall Bonjour (this seems to be the problem with sharing)
    3. Then, if you can get hold of it, install the previous version of Bonjour (the one that came with iTunes 9.0.3)
    4. Restart iTunes and your shared libraries should now be showing.
Good luck, this is the only solution I have at this stage.

Hi, just follow the steps above, it should bring it back. Alternatively, after installing this version and rebooting your PC sometime solves this problem.
    Good luck

  • ITunes won't show shared libraries nor will it show iPhone as a device

This is baffling me and I would welcome some assistance. ITunes doesn't show any Shared Libraries/Devices
    1. iTunes will not show 2 shared libraries that can be seen by another computer (PC) running iTunes on the same home network
    2. Using my iPhone I cannot get the Remote app to work; iTunes doesn't seem to recognise my iPhone, although they are both on the same network (verified)
    3. When running 'Bonjour Browser' I can't locate "cciphonethings.tcp" as per the 'Things' support site for iPhone/iMac sync
    4. iTunes will sync OK with my iPhone when I place the iPhone in it's cradle
I've followed the advice in Apple support and also followed the checks suggested by the Things support site. I've also reinstalled iTunes. No change.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
To answer your question, the cpu speed is 550MHz.
Thought so. It seems like PowerBooks from about that era (550, 667) are the most likely to have this problem. I've never seen any definitive explanation, though. If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say it's a combination of hardware and software and how iTunes interacts with the CD drive.
One thing you could do is send a bug report to Apple via their online form.
    best,

  • Accessing music and photos from shared libraries in imovie and other apps

ihave a problem that i'm not sure is solvable. i have a mac mini that i use to hold all my music in itunes, photos in iphoto and share this with my other mac by turning on the sharing in itunes and iphoto. this means on my other mac, i can access music and photos using the shared music and photos facility in those programs. however, when i want to add music or photos into imovie using the media tab in imovie on my other mac, it doesn't show the shared libraries. i also have the same problem in final cut pro. is there anyway to make these programs see shared libraries of photos of music that sit on another mac on the network?

    Mac on Andy,
If you copy the photos you wish to use to your iPhoto local library you'll then have access in to them in the media pane of iMovie.
However, iTunes will not allow you to do the same thing with songs.
As a workaround you could enable File Sharing and then mount the mini as a server. In the Finder you'll need to then rummage around in the mini's iTunes library to find the tracks you need, but it should work.

  • Two different libraries in one finder...

    Hi!
Somehow my finder shows two different Libraries in the Finder:
    1. Macintosh HD --> Library (7.25 GB)
    2. Macintosh HD --> System --> Library (4.52 GB)
The folder 'caches' in both libraries are modified today, so they've been used today...
Obviously, I would like to use only one of them, so how can I see which of both libraries is really used by the Macbook? And can I just delete the other library?
    Regards!

    Just a few more questions:
    - If I need to change any settings, for instance for iSync to synchronise a 'not compatible' phone, in which library should I do this?
You don't do anything in your Library folders. To do that you would launch Applications/iSynch with the device plugged in and from the Devices menu choose > add the device. You may also be able to synch thru iTunes.
    - What is the 'resources' folder in Finder? It contains some Unix Executable Files....??
Tell us the path of the Resources folder you mean. For instance... MacintoshHD/System/Library/whateverThere are many resource folders in Mac.

  • Shared libraries rights

    Hi all,
I have libarary1.war and library2.was deployed on the same domain and managed server with app1.ear and app2.ear.
App1 uses library1 and app2 uses library2. I want to know is it possible to configure some rights or permissions
to enable access for application only to it's own library and restrict access to another's library.
I know it is possible to deploy library/application pair to separated managed servers, but in my case I need deploy both pairs to the same managed server.
    Thanks

According to my understanding you have a managed server and you want to deploy two shared libraries L1 and L2 with two ear EAR1 and EAR2.
You do not want that EAR2 can access EAR1 shared library.
I would suggest that you should package the L1 within the EAR1 and L2 within the EAR2.
As far as security constraint is concerned I don't believe that there is any such feature to apply security restriction over a shared library to be accessed by a particular application.
    Thanks,
    Sandeep

  • Home Sharing vs Shared Libraries

What's the difference between the new Home Sharing feature in iTunes and the older Shared Libraries feature?
Why does iTunes still have Shared Libraries listed under the Sharing tab in Preferences... if Home Sharing is better?

Home sharing only works with computers on the same network, like within your house. When both machines are authorized with your iTunes account info, you can actually grab, drag and drop content from one library to the other. The other sharing, I believe, will work on a broader range (like your neighbor across the street) but only allows the person sharing to listen to your library.

  • Sharing iTunes btwn two users -- getting new music to show up for both

I'm setting up a new PC with Windows 7 and, at the same time, setting up two new iPhones.  In trying to keep my wife's iPhone linked to her Apple ID and my iPhone to mine, I followed the directions here -- http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203 -- and set up iTunes on each of our Windows user accounts and put the iTunes Media Library files in a public location we can both access.
My problem now is, when one of us adds new music to iTunes (to the shared, public folder in Windows), it doesn't automatically show up in the other's iTunes library.  I know that I can manually go in and use "Add File/Folder to Library...", but, is there a way to have this happen without user intervention?
Many thanks for any help you can provide!
    Bobby

    Don't do it.. !!
Apple says specifically don't put your iphoto library on the TC.
    And I quote.
    iphoto network no no.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1198
It's recommended that you store your iPhoto library on a locally mounted hard drive. Storing your iPhoto library on a network share can lead to poor performance, data corruption, or data loss.
    See further
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6692100
The TC has no media smarts at all.. none.. it is completely dumb stupid hard disk in a router.
If you put libraries on the TC apart from being slow.. because all files must be transferred via the Mac running itunes you then have no backup and no way to backup your files.
Get a large external drive or get a proper NAS with built in iTunes server. (although exactly how well they work I am not sure).
You still should not put your main iphoto library on the NAS but you can put a copy.
