ITunes Shuffle

I can't get the i'tunes shuffle to work. I click on the button in iTunes, but it doesn't shuffle the songs. It did awhile ago, but doesn't know. Am I not doing something I need to do?
Thanks
Carl

Hi Carl,
When you say it doesn't shuffle the songs, do you mean the tracks don't change order on the screen, or when you play them the order doesn't change?
The shuffle button doesn't show the re-ordering of your songs unless you have the "numbers" column (the one with no heading, just of the left of "Name") selected. For example, if you have the "Artist" column highlighted, the playlist is ordered by Artist and clicking the shuffle button will not show that the playlist will now play in shuffle mode. Yet when you play the songs, you'll see it doesn't play them in "Artist" order, rather it is shuffled (since the button is on).
Note that in the Library, there is no "numbers" column so you can never see the order that the tracks will be shuffled. Whenyou play the tracks however it will jump around the list when the shuffle button is on.
Does that help?
Sara.

  • I'm trying to import a new cd, but when I load it in, iTunes shuffles the track listing.  What the heck?!

I'm trying to import a new cd, but when I load it in, iTunes shuffles the track order.  What the heck?!

If you have music that was purchased on different iTunes accounts than the one you use, then you must provide the password, otherwise the tunes are not considered yours.  You can turn off iCloud and just use the usual USB sync method.  But I wonder whether you'll have the same problem?

  • Why does iPhone iTunes shuffle engage spontaneously

Why does iPhone 4 iTunes shuffle engage spontaneously.  I change the position of the shuffle and it turns itslef back on in the middle of songs.

Probably because you have Shake to Shuffle enabled in the Music settings.

  • ITunes shuffles CD contents and it says that shuffle is not engaged

When I play a CD in my laptop, iTunes shuffles the tracks, and I can't unshuffle them. I have turned the shuffle on and off, but to no avail. Any ideas? I installed the latest updates, but didn't help.

Thank you so much!! Well, I am having great brain cramps this week! Same thing happened on my desktop Quicken program. My current entries had disappeared (almost 2 yrs worth!). I finally figured out that I had inadvertently hit the "sort by check #" box and we had checks out of order, so my current checks looked old to the program. Thanks again for the answer!!

  • ITunes Shuffle not working

My iTunes shuffle does not seem to be working. Can anyone help troubleshoot?

If you mean that the Shuffle itself is not working, you might have more luck getting a quick and applicable response if you ask in the appropriate iPod shuffle forum. When you repost, be sure to include complete details. "Not working" doesn't give people much to go on.
As a quick starter, check out these Apple support documents:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
Select the one appropriate to your model of iPod shuffle.
    Good luck, and regards.

  • Itunes shuffle stopped working

(IPHONE4) My itunes shuffle stopped working, plays each song over and over until i hit the next button. I did a hard reset and it still does not work. I have the most recent software update as well.

I was having the same problem using iTunes on my iPhone 4 iOS 6.0.1. A playlist that I had created kept shuffling, which was maddening because the playlist is an audiobook and so I need to listen to it in correct order.
It turns out that the shuffle icon sometimes disappears, and you have to tap the album artwork to display the following:
    time progress bar
    repeat icon
    genius icon
    shuffle icon
Sure enough, the shuffle icon was highlighted in orange, indicating it was active. Clicking the shuffle icon deactivated it, and now the audiobook is playing in correct order. This function--tapping artwork to hide icons--should be basic for anyone who uses an iPhone, you know, RTFM; however, in this situation it just didn't connect for me.
It would be nice if, in the next iteration of iTunes for the iPhone, Apple allows the user to "always display music management icons" so they're perpetually in front of the album artwork.

  • ITunes shuffle is not working anymore

iTunes shuffle is not working anymore after downloading latest version. The shuffle button is highlighted but it just plays the next track.

If you need to change the computer that the iPad is synced to then see this user-tip : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141
If you don't have all of your content on a backup that you can copy onto your new computer and into its iTunes (File > Add To Library), then you should be able to copy iTunes purchases from the iPad to it via File > Transfer Purchases (File > Devices > Transfer Purchases). For content from other sources (e.g. music that you copied form CDs) which you don't have on a backup, there are some third-party programs listed half-way down this page which should be able to copy them back from your iPad.

  • ITunes, Shuffle and Windows Vista

Microsoft is releasing Windows Vista in January. Are there any plans for the iTunes software/IPOD firmware to be upgraded to be compatible with Windows Vista?!? I've found that the IPOD Shuffle Reset utility does not install on Windows Vista. ITunes works, and sees IPOD/Shuffle, however get error 1418 almost always, iTunes locks up, can't transfer songs to shuffle, get error" can't read/write"...or AutoFill. I've found that if I use the reset utility on a Windows XP machine (have to do this twice)...then plug it into the Windows Vista machine, If I select "allow iTunes to automatically add songs to the IPOD" it works. But, can't delete songs from IPOD or add any new ones manually. I'm a developer, so this is a full release version of Windows Vista. Just curious, what the plans are to bring iTunes/IPOD in line with the Windows release, and if there is anything that I can do now to remedy this.

Oh, so the iPad DOES work fine connected to the same computer and the same port.  I thought you said it did not in the first post, but maybe you got that working (or I misunderstood before).
NOTE:  When things are working properly, the shuffle will not appear in Windows Explorer (except when actively syncing), unless you have Enable disk use turned on for the shuffle.  So not seeing it in Windows Explorer may not be a problem.
Is this shuffle a new purchase... so it did not previously work for you on this computer?  If so, make sure that the shuffle end of the USB cable is fully inserted into the headphones jack.  The fit can be tighter than expected, and it may seem connected, but is not.  For a surprising number of people, this was the problem.
In iTunes, is the sidebar (along left side of window) visible.  If it is hidden, from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  When there are no devices connected, the heading DEVICES should not appear in the sidebar.  When you connect your iPad, DEVICES should appear, with the iPad listed below.  If you connect the shuffle, it is be added to the list under DEVICES.  To confirm, you do not see the shuffle listed there under DEVICES, when it is connected?
When you connect the shuffle, does its light on the shuffle do anything?

  • Upgraded to 10.7.3 on iPad mini. Now iTunes shuffle appears to have no way to turn off . Anybody?...please?...

Hi, is any body out there able to tell me how to turn off the shuffle feature in iTunes on my iPad mini. ( iOS 10.7.3) I wasn't even aware I had turned it on. It just seemed to turn itself on after a software update. Thanks for any help.

There is no iOS 10.7.3. I think you mean iOS 7.0.3

  • A bug in the iTunes shuffle feature -- won't turn off

Since iTunes upgraded, to 11.1.5, the I can't turn off shuffle.  But, it only shuffles through some of my songs and artists so I hear them A LOT and other artists I don't hear at all.  It's VERY annoying.  The settings show that shuffle is off, but it still shuffles (still among a limited list).  This appears to be a bug.  Just to be clear, I know about the icons and the menu settings and they are set to off, but the shuffle continues as I've described.

I've seen a similar issue posted but didn't find solution.
Have had gen2 Shuffle for >1 year, no problems. Starting about 2-3 weeks ago, I found that it *no longer observes the "OFF" position* of the on/off slider. Whether the slider is set to on or off, the Shuffle is fully functional: play, pause, resume, etc. I can start play while ostensibly "off", and if already playing/pausing in "on" position, sliding to "OFF" has no discernible effect.
Sounds like the switch is either crudded up OR broken. I'm not sure there's
a simple solution(like applying contact cleaner to the switch)... take a look
    at this for details:
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPod/iPod-Shuffle-2nd-Generation/Disassembly/100/1/P age-1/Disassembly
I have tried the 5R's several times, to no avail.
Has anyone else observed this behavior? I am synching to a Mac with iTunes 7.6.2 and Shuffle 1.0.4. Is it an issue with 1.0.4? (I had not run into this problem before updating, though I cannot trace it precisely to the date of update. It took a bit to recognize the problem.) Other suggestions on resolving?
It's a physical problem as opposed to a firmware problem...
Inadvertent battery drain is my ultimate concern.
A simple solution is to use the PAUSE and HOLD capability to prevent inadvertent battery drain. HOLD (pressing PAUSE for 3 seconds) disables the controls until PAUSE is pressed again for 3 seconds. I would practice this while a few times to make sure you're not just locking the controls while shuffle is still playing (in which case unplugging the earphones will pause play).

  • ITunes shuffling my songs on my computer every 5 seconds. Need help.

I am having a major problem with My iTunes music shuffling my songs every 5 seconds when I'm not doing anything. Any help would be great. Thank you.

You say, "My computer will not reconise the device."  Then you say, "It says sync has been completed but there is nothing on the shuffle."  Those two statements seem to contradict, because if the shuffle is not being recognized by iTunes, how can it say it has completed syncing?  If it is doing a sync when connected, the shuffle is being recognized by iTunes...
    have new leads.
By "leads," does that mean the USB cable.  If so, did you get the USB docking cable for the 2nd gen shuffle? The USB cable for the 3rd and 4th gen shuffle will not work, because the connector is different.
If you are using the latest iTunes, make sure the sidebar is visible.  From the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  In the sidebar, the shuffle does not appear under the heading DEVICES?

  • I had my computer cleaned. Now I can't Sync my apple itunes shuffle. What do I do?

How do I Sync my ipad shuffle, after my computer was cleaned?

If "cleaned" means the drive was erased, and everything reinstalled, and you therefore have a new iTunes library, your shuffle may be set up to sync with your old iTunes library.
The easiest way to get it working with the new iTunes library may be to do a Restore, if you don't mind erasing the shuffle's current content.  The Restore button is on the shuffle's Summary (or Settings) screen in iTunes.  The Restore erases the shuffle, reinstalls its software, and sets it to default settings.  It will be like when you first started using the shuffle.  You can then sync it to your new iTunes library.
If "cleaned" means something else, please post back with more info.  Also, it would be helpful to know the shuffle model and type of computer (Mac or Windows).  This document shows the four shuffle models

  • ITunes Shuffle Help

While I listen to my music using iTunes on my Mac, there is a problem.
I would listen to a song and when I pause the next song to search for another song I want to listen to (on shuffle), it would just stop the shuffling and won't go to the next or previous song.
    Any help?

But when i have itunes in shuffle mode in my library, it always skips the ones i have unchecked and only plays the checked one.
That's the way it's supposed to work. Songs that aren't checked are skipped during playback.
Is there any way i can fix this?
Instead of depending on the checkmarks to control what's synched to your iPod, use playlists instead, or set iTunes to manually manage your iPod and drag the tracks, albums, artists, etc. you want there.

  • Linking intro songs to their parent song in itunes shuffle.

I have many songs that have intro's to them for instance. (Styx's) A.D. 1928 goes with, Rockin' the Paradise. And The (Beatles) Sgt Pepper's Lonely hearts club band. Goes with, With a little help from my friends. But when I play Itunes In shuffle mode, they are not together. So they sound like they are starting in the middle of the song. Can I link them together, so they are always played together?

You can join the tracks, but you have to do this prior to importing them from a CD. The option is not available afterward. You could rerip them or use Join Together. (I do not know whether you can use Join Together with purchased tracks from the iTunes Store.)

  • Itunes shuffle ONLY seems to shuffle the HIT SONGS!

im converting my entire CD collection to itunes and as i work at home (8-9 hours aday) i am shuffling my entire itunes collection.
a CD will pop up in my shuffle that was recently added, and never listened to and that CD may have only 1 "hit song" and somehow itunes ALWAYS picks that "hit song".
im convinced that itunes taps into a DATABASE as it shuffles, inturn "choosing" the most popular song from that cd.
this happens at least 5-7 out of every 10-15 tunes.
has ANYONE else had this happed to them??
please post a reply or email me at [email protected]
    frustrated apple fan,
    cupflppr

thats not the issue here....im not concerned about playing the same artist often (i have set the slider in the prefs to adjust for repeat play)...
im saying of all the 1000 CDs in my itunes, its seems that the MOST RADIO POPULAR or HIT SONG comes up over and over, from artist to artist.
its as if it ties into the itunes sales database and it knows what song on specific CDs are MOST SOLD, or MOST LISTENENED to -- as if itunes is CHOOSING what popular tracks are coming up.
    its REALLY strange!!
