ITunes shuts down my PC while burning and/or importing.

Ok so a couple of weeks ago I noticed iTunes was shutting my computer down while I was importing a CD (tried it 3 times). I thought maybe it was because I only had about 325MB of space left on my HD.
Tonight I noticed that iTunes is shutting down my computer when I try to burn a playlist of songs I purchased from the Music Store. I tried it 3 times in a row as well.
I've got plenty of system resources and RAM. Btw - What is up with all of the posts about iTunes users (especially on Windows) having their computers shutting down? I seriously doubt we all have faulty hardware or outdated drivers and firmware. I never had this problem until I started using version 7.x.x and I've been using iTunes since the beginning. Should I switch my library over to mu Dual Mirrored Drive Door G4 for some stability? It seems as though iTunes (which has always been my choice of digital music management software) may be a little bit suspect.
This is EXTREMELY frustrating so if anyone can help I'd really appreciate it.

hi Martin!
Having checked the events they seem to result to my having done a shutdown from a ctrl-alt-delete - but this isn't what I'm doing.
did you go to event ID to search too? that's what i also picked up from there. unfortunately, i'm not a subscriber so i don't have access to the more detailed reference links they were providing.
hmmmm. i've seen a few scattered instances of this sort of thing happening. however, i'm pretty sure you're the only person i've explicitly checked the event logs with. so i'm not entirely confident at this stage that there's a commonality underlying all the cases.
one thing to check for is if your PC is overheating generally. (under those circumstances, if the CD drive is working hard that additional heat source might just raise the temperature internally beyond a threshold level that will cause a power off.)
in one other case i've seen, this was being produced by a dying PC power-supply. (the additional load during the CD drive activity was enough to throw the power supply into a fantod, apparently.)
(actually, in the course of writing this reply to you, i just noticed another person reporting that this had been caused by a power supply issue.)
here's a link through to a thread where i give references on the power supply and overheating issues. it's also where the latest report of a power supply problem has just shown up:

  • I receive an error and iTunes shuts down every time I try to sync my iPhone

Every time I try to sync my iPhone, I receive an error and iTunes shuts down. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes at least 3 different times and still no luck. Any suggestions please.

Thanks for the answer. The sync process goes well until the last step,(5th) when iTunes try to syncing pictures. At that point I got an error message telling me that iTunes doesen’t work properly. “Windows tries to find a solution to the problem” ...and then the program shuts down. I remember that I tried to include videos in the Photo tab just before it all happend, so I think that is the issue here.
The problem is that i dont know how to uncheck include videos option since the program stops working. Is it something i can do without having my iPhone connected? I Saw that some have installed older versions of iTunes to go around the problem and if that solves it all, at least for now... where can I download it?
    Thanx in advance. M

  • Itunes shutting down when I connect mu ipod!

Everytime I connect my ipod video itunes shuts down! I have restared and reinstalled itunes. My ipod shuffle works not the viedo ipod.

My itunes is working and so is my 5thG ipod, but when I hookup ipod to dell computer the itunes shuts off and then double clicking on the link to my itunes(located on a iomega 150 external HD)I get a message that states "Itunes.exe-application error, The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006)" I have repaired itunes and rebooted twice. When I reboot without my ipod plugged in the itunes can be recalled again.

  • Itunes shuts down while using

When in iTunes if I try to change info such as song name while in the music library I get a 'send error report' messege and iTunes shuts down. I acctually I don't have to change anything just click in the field and when it turns blue which indicates I can start typing I get the windows error box pop-up. This started after the update 11.1.0.126 but I just saw the problem today as I rarely need to rename a song  or other data.

Try this and see if it helps.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • When i add a cd to my library and then try to up load it in match my itunes shuts down

when i add a cd to my library and then try to up load it in match my itunes shuts down with a error message saying itunes has stop working and windows is shutting it down. HELP

Ok, since Windows 7 and iTunes at 64 bit both work there must be another source, either:
    - Some form of corruption with the iTunes library - to resolve, hold down shift key while starting iTunes create new library, import Song files and repeat CD import on that library.
    or
    - 3rd party software intervening - most likely culprits are Windows native and/or 3rd party security software - worth switching these off - restarting Windows and trying again to eliminate each in turn.
In parallel - would suggest you also post issue on iTunes for Windows forum since this is not an iTunes Match issue.

  • I could previously open my itunes program on my computer. Not now as when it asks, Do you want to allow this program to make changes to your computer and I select, Yes, it shuts down.  I have removed and re-installed itunes, checked firewall. Pls help

I could previously open my itunes program on my computer and sync with ipad, ipod and iphone but no longer. When I select itunes a dialogue box opens  with question - "Do you want to allow this program to make changes to your computer"  When I select YES, it just shuts down.   I have removed and reinstalled itunes. have checked firewall and spent hours trying to fix. Please help.

A possible cause of this error is that Firefox is set to run as Administrator.
Check that Firefox isn't set to run as Administrator.
Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".
Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.
    * Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" should not be selected
    * "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" should not be selected
Also check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).

  • SInce updating my iphone 5S to ios 8, iTunes shuts down during the app sync process. Any ideas how to fix? I now have the newest version of itunes on my laptop and it still shuts down.

Since updating my iphone 5s software to ios 8, iTunes shuts down everytime in the app sync process. I have the most current version of Itunes on my laptop. Any ideas of how to fix?

I feel its more of my sync drivers for itunes/iphone not working if that makes sense. Its not my itunes that stops responding, its more of that if the phone syncs up it fails to anything further.
I've tried sync another iphone to the same itunes and windows autoplayer will allow the photos sorted on the iphone to be saved to the laptop but itunes won't even recongise the device is plugged in.
Although it will charge the battery

  • HT1725 I was downloading some songs and iTunes shut down.

I was downloading some songs and iTunes shut down. It says I've purchased a song but it isn't in my purchased playlist, but it charged me for it. How do I get the song, or get my money back?

You've tried the Store > Check For Available Downloads menu option on your computer's iTunes, and does it show under the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage on your computer's iTunes ?
If not then try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption
