ITunes shuts down when searching for certain songs in library

One example is every time I type "time of o" it stops me before finishing "ur lives" and will freeze or detect a problem and I have to shut it down and restart the program.

now my ipod does work on my other comptuter without any problems.
5. Version of iTunes before you upgraded to 6.0.2
VERSION 5.014 --
6. Version of Fairplay on the songs you've purchased. (If you look at the general tab in the Get Info dialog, it tells you version of Fairplay.)

7. Automatic vs. manual sync. For songs / podcasts / video, which in 6.0.2 all have separate manual vs. automatic settings.
i only use this for music, so i have no way of knowing how these are set up.
8. Is there some sort of weird mis-identification of the iPod in previous versions of iTunes, like the Video sub-tab missing in the iPod preferences tab of iTunes preferences for Video iPods?
i have no idea what you are talking about.
9. Version of the iPodService you have running? (Go to C:\Program Files\iPod\bin, find the iPodService.exe file, right click, select Properties and you should be able to get a version number.)
6.0.2.23
10. Number of store accounts you have authorized on that machine?
1
11. Is the iPod Updater running in the background when you try to mount the iPod and iTunes crashes?
no
12. Has either of you tried connected one of these iPods to a Mac to see if it crashes on iTunes for Mac? Or does that heal the problem and then you can subsequently plug it into their Windows machine without problem. (This would tell me if it's a Windows only bug or if it's in both versions of iTunes.) The Genuis bar at an Apple retail store could help with this step. But I realize that this is the step with the highest level of inconvenience.
dont have a mac to connect to but it does connect just fine to my old computer which is using itunes 5 and ipod 5.0.1.4

okay, let's try getting a crash log to the Apple engineers for a look.
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
    drwtsn32 -i
    And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log"
prior to collecting the itunes crash log, delete any existing crash logs in there. (we want to make sure we send the correct crash log.)
Generate the crash, collect the crash log, and and send it as an attachment to this email address.

  • Itunes shuts down when clicking anything

My iTunes shuts down when I click anything on the screen other than the music. If I click anything on the sidebar (Store, Playlists, Library, etc.) or the album artwork it shuts down. I have tried pulling all the iTunes preferences out of the library and restarting the computer. This does not fix the problem. This has been going on for a few months, but I have been downloading the newest versions of iTunes and it continues to happen.

    Hey chaimoy,
It seems like you may be experiencing an unexpected quit from iTunes when importing a file into the iTunes library. I have an article for you that addresses this circumstance, and it can be found below:

  • TS1363 why does Itunes shut down when I purchase songs.also when trying to download updates it fails to update.I am using windows 8

when I purchase songs Itunes shuts down.also when I try to update I tunes I keep getting an error message that says failed to download

I appreciate your response but not sure now if it could have been anything in that answer because.......
This problem appears to have gone away, not sure why but I have a possible theory. This is only a theory on my part as I'm not knowledgeable on the inner workings of Firefox. When I installed Firefox 18 it had all the automatic updating options turned on by default. By the time I turned them all off, I'm assuming it had started to download updates for all the plugins and addons, like java, quicktime etc. etc. etc. even though I hadn't personally initiated those downloads and updates. My theory is that once those downloads had started, even though I had turned off the automatic updating, it was going to continue downloading the updates that had started and was not going to stop until it had done so.
I do not disable the anti-phishing and evil website detection stuff but I seriously doubt the updating for those items would have consisted of 89 megabytes of data but I could be wrong.
So for now, I'll close this out and mark it solved and continue to monitor to see if I have any more "weirdness" go on.

  • Is it just me, or is this NOT how the new iTunes store is supposed to look when searching for a song, TV show, or app?

Take a look...that's just weird! When searching movies it looks fine, but when searching for songs, TV shows, or apps, this is what you get. Notice all the DI6 and SF6? I mean I know iTunes 11 just came out and all, but THIS kind of surprised me. Wanted to see if I'm the only one seeing this or if others see it too.

Ok, Apple has fixed it now

  • ITunes shuts down when I try to purchase songs

When I click "buy album" it connects to the store, and then iTunes shuts down. It also shuts down when I try to "check for purchases." I am running the newest version of iTunes. It also did this with my previous version.
Real Player also shuts down, when I download videos.
I have re-installed both iTunes and real player around 5 times. So that will not help.

In addition to the other requested information, when was the last time ... or perhaps this will be the first time, to run Preferential Treatment to ensure your preference files aren't corrupt? If you can download it, it's at http://www.jonn8.com/html/pt.html. If you have OnyX, you can check your preference files using it, too.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You need to authorize your computer in order to play purchased content from the iTunes Store.
To authorize your Mac, open iTunes and go to Store menu (on the menu bar, at the top of the display) > Authorize this Computer

  • Itunes shuts down when I try to select apps tab for Iphone 5

    Itunes 11.1
When I try to manage my apps in itunes, itunes shuts down as soon as I click the apps tab.  Everything else syncs just fine. What's the fix?

This is really silly but here is the soultion:
You can't have Newsstand hidden in a folder.
If you do, move it to the homescreen then you will be able to access the Apps tab in iTunes 11.1.  You can always move it to the folder afterwards. You can't have Newsstand hidden in a folder.  If you do, move it to the homescreen then you will be able to access the Apps tab in iTunes 11.1.  You can always move it to the folder afterwards.

  • Itunes shuts down when connecting Ipod HELP

Recently when I connect my Ipod to my Itunes a windows error message appears and shuts down itunes for me. The message reads that Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to shut down. I am unable to transfer any music, play songs off my ipod, or delete songs off my ipod. I have reinstalled Itunes several times. All of my songs are stored on my IPOD only so reseting would erase all of them. PLEASE HELP!!!

Yes this used to happen to me also. Heres how to fix it. If this event just started happening after you have downloaded new music, I know how to fix it. Sort your iTunes by DATE ADDED. Then start clicking on the songs or videos, etc. in order from top down. When you click on a certain one(s) and iTunes shuts down, this is what you do:
    1. Find the file(s) on your computer by doing a computer search from the start menu.
    2. When you locate the file(s), click on it or them and send them into your recycle bin or trash for mac users.
    3. Then open iTunes.
    4. Locate the file(s).
    5. They should have a little ! next to them.
    6. When you click on them, iTunes won't shut down.
    7. Just right click on the file(s) and delete them again, this time from iTunes.
    8. Reset your iPod.
    9. Connect it.
    10. Your problem is solved!

  • ITunes Shuts Down When Launching the Store

I am able to open and use iTunes normally for playing songs and playlist organization, but every time I try to launch the store iTunes shuts down completely. No error message or warning. I have not had any problmes with it in the past, and nothing has changed as far as settings or new hardware/software. As far as I can see all firewalls and anti-virus programs have been turned off, and I am able to log into other file sharing services fine. Could it be a low memory issue?
    Anyone have any ideas??
All advice and help is appreciated...thanks!!
      Windows XP

I am having a similar problem at home but I have found a pattern. I have itunes installed on my laptop. When I launch the store through my connection at work everything works fine - the CPU is only 60 % peaked at the worst time and this is with MS Excel, and a TV streamer working simultaneously. When I attempt to lauch the store at home on my laptop using either a wireless or a wire connection through my Xplornet satellite connection the connection freezes, my CPU is 100.0 % used. and and the system is frozen. I can still play tunes from my library but itunes is functioning very slowly.
I also frequently get a message using the help function in the program that I do not have a "secured connection to the store.
This problem just started after Xmas and I also installed the new Itunes version. Everything was perfoming fine at home with all of my computers. Now both my desktop and laptop suffer the same consequences
Like you, all of my firewall and Explorer settings are correct. Based on my opposite results and consistentcy, I therefore contend its the internet connection that appears to have some bearing on the problem. I also removed Norton from all of my systems and replaced my protection with something less greedy on my resources. Although my connection is not true high speed from a performance standpoint it is still approx. 80 - 90 times fast than an analog connection. Because I live in the country where true high speed connections don't exist, this is as good as it gets.
Check your signal strength in your internet connection. It would be appreciated if Apple could respond to my email last week. After all we are the ones prepared to buy downloaded music and we can't without getting these bugs resolved.
Should I reinstall the old Itunes version ? There is an old saying - " If it works fine - change it ! "
    Thanks

  • New iMac but iTunes shuts down when I download or add "purchased" videos.

I just bought a new iMac, first I went to an Apple store and inquired that my main use would be with iTunes. I began to transfer songs from my iPod to the Mac using the Senuti file. The major problem is that I am forced to manually add the songs and videos to my library, but whenever theres an attempt to add any videos that I have purchased iTunes shuts its application, forcing me to reopen it only the find the video is not added. I did a test by purchasing a new video and I can see the download completing, but when it does the final part, again itunes shuts down and I've lost the video. Someone sent me a video gift and I was unable to download the video and the itunes store indicates that I have already spent the download, but its not in my library? I don't know what the problem is.

First, I'd suggest you make sure that your iMac has the latest updates: Mac OS X 10.4.9, QuickTime 7.1.6, and iTunes 7.1.1. If it doesn't, update and see if that improves things.
If not, Senuti may have created a corrupt iTunes library. You may need to delete the iTunes library files and add your tracks and videos again (and for any that haven't transferred from your iPod, you may wish to try a different transfer utility).
    Hope this helps.
