ITunes silent playback from songs on Time Capsule

I (and a number of others) are having trouble with unreliable iTunes playback over AirTunes when songs are stored on a Time Capsule.
More here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1768602&tstart=0
The cause appears to be Time Capsule firmware v7.41. Firmware v7.31 does not exhibit this issue.
Would it be possible for the Time Capsule people to have a look at this issue?

First never use the TC as the main source of your files, always have a backup on a usb or firewire external or if using a Mac Pro on a secondary hard drive. You could pull that TC hard drive and connect it to an external to get your files. Not a difficult thing to do.
If the TC disconnects often then you must have an interference problem which needs counter measured. Try an ethernet connector and by pass the wireless for a moment.

  • Moved my iTunes library to my new 2TB time capsule, now iTunes can't find the Time Capsule.

Had my iTunes library on my older 1TB Time Capsule. Just bought a 2TB Time Capsule. Moved all the music from the old to the new. But, iTunes tells me now it can't find the server. I've checked the location of the library on the iTunes preferences, to point iTunes to my server. I keep getting an error message that iTunes can't find my server. I've already added the folder on the server to my login preferences, like it was with the older Time Capsule.
I did everything exactly as before but now iTunes can't find my Time Capsule.
Should I have just pointed the login to the server and not the exact folder? I've been working on the solution for an hour now.. Please, can someone here help me?

Don't panic we are working on it..
I am just avoiding Yosemite like the plague.. (plague on you Yosemite!!) .. as its networking is so bad it causes chaos on my network.. to all other devices.. even though only one device actually runs Yoyos!!
I am not sure how hard it is for you to go back to Mountain Lion.. or if you have a computer running ML on the network.. if so definitely use it.
What OS was last used by the MBP when you stopped using it or is it fully up to date. Is the computer in the network now? If so it is much easier to copy and paste the files from a live computer.
Did you encrypt the backup.. that would really mess things up or have an encrypted disk??
Have you used the normal TM tool in Yosemite to try and recover your files?? Or perhaps migrated the files.. this can work fine.. migration often being a better way of doing things.. although there are a few rules about using different user names.. etc.
There is another proviso here I must add.. Yosemite cannot see the backup quickly.. what I mean is that your backup is >500GB. Even by ethernet Yosemite version Time Machine can take more than 24hours just to index that.. maybe longer and by wireless a lot longer.. 3-5 times.. I do not know why spotlight is so slow in Yosemite.. but trust me.. it is pathetic. The yoyo got its string in a knot and seems to need to untangle it for every single file on the backup.
Be very patient if you open TM backup in Yosemite.. and definitely do this by ethernet not wireless.. otherwise you might die of old age beforehand.

  • How-to move time machine backup from an old Time Capsule to a new one?

As written on the title, I need to move my old backup from an old 500GB to a new dual-band 2TB Time capsule, but I have not found any hint.
I've found many suggestions how to move the backups between externa HD; from external HD to a Time Capsule; between Time Capsule and external HD.
    But nothing about my needs.
Someone can give me an how-to or at least some hint?
    Many thanks to every one!!!

I was able to do that by using the Finder to copy the "sparsebundle" files from the old Time Capsule to temporary storage, replacing the Time Capsule, then copying the "sparsebundle" files from the temporary storage area to the new Time Capsule. If your temporary storage is limited and you have more than one "sparsebundle" file to migrate, you can copy one at a time.
AirPort Utility also has an "Archive" function that you could use instead of a Finder copy.
I believe I saw recently a method of copying directly from one Time Capsule to another, although I can't find it at the moment. If that option makes sense for you, I'll look further.

  • How can I erase (or remove) the hard drive from a dead Time Capsule?

How can I erase (or remove) the hard drive from a dead Time Capsule?

I found this having had the same problem...
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=553818
Having removed the hard drive I'm finding I can't reformat it. I manage to mount the HD but Disk Utility crashes when trying to format (HD attached to Mac via Newer Tech. SATA cables to USB) and causes what I think is a kernal panic on my Mac which hard crashes. I see 3 partitions when attempting to mount one of which is AFP. Anyone got any ideas about how to do this? I've dug around but the only progress I've made is to note others have had to work around ACL's when replacing the logic board of the TC. Not sure if this even relates to the problem. However the tool for doing this seems to have been removed from SL. (Forum references to this procedure all relate to 10.5).

  • HT4522 How do I download from an old time capsule to a new one or to my computer?

I have a new 2T time capsule but have somehow lost all the old material I originally copied from my old time capsule. How can I go into the old capsule and re-copy all those files onto the new capsule?

Check the disk capacity left on the new 2TB, as the files are likely there.
Are the files TM backups? You handle those somewhat differently to regular files.
Check Q18 here for moving TM backups.
    http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
Otherwise it is standard copying of files via finder.
I strongly recommend using ethernet.. turn off wireless. This is going to be a bit slow because the copy has to take place via the computer.. ie all packets are copied.. old TC--Computer.. Computer--new TC. As such it can take ages if you use wireless.
Bridge the old TC and plug it into the new one. Then you can mount the TC disk .. open a second finder window makes it easier to keep things open .. create a new directory in the new TC.. for old files .. do not just dump them under the root directory. And then copy away.

  • How do I transfer info from my old time capsule to a new one

How do I transfer all data from my old time capsule to a new? (latest model)

Are you talking about TM backups??
I would consider carefully if it is not better to start over.. TM becomes more problematic as the backups increase in age.. you can archive off the backups from the old TC if you need to store them.
    Transfer TM backups..
    Apple doco. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5097
    Pondini doco http://pondini.org/TM/18.html
For data .. copy and paste.. but make sure you turn off wireless and use ethernet as it must copy files via the computer.. by wireless this is dead slow.

  • Restoring files from a reformatted time capsule disk?

This sounds dumb, I know. I had a time capsule that wasn't taking backups anymore - I had that stupid privileges issue, and I couldn't figure it out. So, I figured that I would just wipe the whole thing clean since I had backups of my backups. However, there was data on the drive from my wife, who was using it as a server for some reason, and NOT keeping the files on her computer. She blames it on the macbook air she used to use and not have any space on, and had no choice but to use the time capsule to keep things on.
At any rate, long story short, is there any way to restore data from a reformatted time capsule? I tried techtool, but it doesn't see the drive. I also tried plugging in via USB and ethernet, but no go. Would the genius bar be able to help?
    THanks, folks.

    Hi,
    No.
If you have no back up you will need to re-rip them. You cannot use match to retrieve music that is not on your computer or external hard drive.
Match can only scan the music that is in your library.

  • Help?  I keep getting "Unexpected Error" everytime I try to use my new Airport Express to extend my network from my 500GB Time Capsule.

I am trying to extend my network from my 500GB Time Capsule using the new Airport Express I just bought, but no matter what I try I keep getting "Unexpected Error.  Try again".  The Express is still flashing Amber.  I cannot get it to turn green.  What am I doing wrong here?  Please help me.

Locate the AirPort Express in the same room as the Time Capsule for the setup.
Power off and restart the Time Capsule
Shut down and restart the Mac. Turn on the wireless on the Mac and temporarily disconnect the Ethernet cable from the Mac to the AirPort Express. In other words, you want to set up the AirPort Express using wireless, since that is the way that it will be used.
Hold in the reset button on the AirPort Express for 9-10 seconds and release. Allow a full minute for the Express to restart.
Click the AirPort icon at the top of the Mac's screen and wait a few seconds for a listing of New AirPort Base Station to appear. Just below that, click directly on AirPort Express.
AirPort Setup will open up and take a minute to analyze the network, then announce that the Express will be configured to extend the Time Capsule network.
Enter a device name that you want to use and click Next
Wait a minute while AirPort Setup configures everything, and hopefully announces a message of Setup Complete. Click Done.
Now move the AirPort Express to a location that is about half way between the Time Capsule and the area that needs more wireless coverage. Avoid obstructions in the signal path between the Time Capsule and AirPort Express as much as possible.
Walls, ceilings, mirrors, heavy furniture, etc. just kill the wireless signal quality. Keep any cordless phones as far away from either router as possible.
It would be much better if you could plan to connect the Time Capsule and AirPort Express using an Ethernet cable, as best case.....you will be losing about half of the network speed trying to use wireless to extend.

  • Transfering files from an older time capsule to a newer one

What is the easiest way to transfer files and settings from an older time capsule to a newer one (4th gen)? I'd like to move my backup files from my old TC to my new one without the hassle of occupying my computer overnight.

The TC has only one backup method.. an archive of the whole disk to a USB drive suitably formatted and plugged into it.. otherwise everything passes through your computer. There is no other way.
Copying of the sparsebundles is often difficult and extremely slow.. you would certainly want both TC plugged in by ethernet.
When you say transfer settings... what settings are you transferring.. ??
This part I am not sure of.. you can make a backup of settings from the old TC.. but whether it is a good idea even to use those on the new one.. I kinda doubt it.
You are better treating the new TC as a new device.. and start fresh backup to it. Either archive or just keep the old TC for 6months and if you haven't required any old files by then it is unlikely you will.

  • Why can't I copy files from Finder to Time Capsule?

I'm trying to do basic copy functions from Finder to Time Capsule and I can't copy/paste or drag/drop any files from my MacBook to TC. The paste function is greyed out. TC is connected and does backups fine from Time Machine. Is there some setting I need to change?

You are trying to add a folder into the network...
You have to click on "shared" in HD then the name of time capsule and a window will open with a folder called "Time Capsule." That window is the network, not the time capsule. You have to click on the "Time Capsule" folder to enter it. You will see a file ending in "arsebundle," that is your backup. You can now add another folder.

  • I want to move my photos from iPhoto to Time Capsule to make space on my computer.  What's the best means of doing this?

I want to move my photos from iPhoto to Time Capsule to make space on my computer.  What's the best means of doing this?

    Please do not do this.
The Time Capsule was designed for your backups.....not as an everyday hard drive. Access to the Time Capsule is slow.
If there is any loss of connection between iPhoto and the iPhoto library when you are reading or writing, the entire iPhoto library is easily corrupted.
The chances of corruption are even more likely if you are using wireless on the computer.
And....even if you decide to risk this....if you move your "original" iPhoto library to the Time Capsule.....how will you make backups of the library?
The only copy of the library will be on the Time Capsule....you have no backups.....when, not if, the Time Capsule has a problem.
Simply stated, I would never do this with any important data that you cannot afford to lose. Please post in the iPhoto support area if you need to confirm this.

If you do want an idea of how to move your iPhoto library correctly, post back and we can help.

  • How do I transfer back up data from my old time capsule to my new one easily.

How do I transfer back up data from my old time capsule to my new one easily.

Before you do this, do you really need all of the old backups that go back many weeks and months?  Most us only ever need to go back a week or two to pick up a file that was accidentally deleted, but that's about it.
Sure, It is tough to think about deleting all the old backups, so a suggestion would be to keep the old Time Capsule around for a month or two....just in case....but start new backups on the new Time Capsule.  Once you have a month or two of backup history on the new Time Capsule, then you might decide to erase the old Time Capsule and sell it....or just keep it around as a spare hard drive.
I've tranferred backups a few times in the past, and used up a lot of space on the "new" Time Capsule to do it, and have found that it is far more trouble than it is worth.
    But, you may disagree.
