Itunes skipping to next track mid-song

having a weird problem where iTunes is skipping to the next track randomly in the middle of a song. It does not count the song as played, my song end time in options are all normal. There is no reason it should be doing this. Some kind of bug? Anyone else experiencing this, know how to fix it?

I get this too, with the latest edition of iTunes. From what I can tell, it is a corrputed mp3 file. Apparently, older versions of iTunes were able to ignore minor errors in MP3 files. And the newer version just skips to the next song when it encounters one of these minor errors.
To fix it, I used a small utility app I've had for years that is wonderful. It's called "MP3 TRIMMER" by "DeepNiner". http://www.deepniner.net/mp3trimmer/
I don't know what this app sells for now, but it allows you to open and trim off quiet space at the beginning or end of a song, it's useful in the creation of ringtones, and it has a feature that REPAIRS damaged MP3 files
When you repair a file, it's often split into two separate files, but run it thru again and it allows you to join multiple files into one MP3 file. (this feature is super handy for attaching two songs that always go together like "We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions" by Queen. Then those two songs become one file, and ALWAYS play together. But I'm slipping off topic.
Once your file is repaired, the files re-joined (if necessary), then you merely re-import it into iTunes and delete the old one.
I hope this helps, and also, the $10 (or so) cost of the software is totally worth it, IMO. This has been an invaluable tool in my music collection.

  • Downloaded a song from itunes and it ends almost 2 minutes early and skips to next track

downloaded a song from itunes and it ends almost 2 minutes early and skips to next track. I deleted the song and redownloaded it from the purchased section on the itunes store three times and still have the same problem. What is the solution?

Clear your web browser's cache, use Edit > Preferences > Advanced and tap the Reset cache button, delete the contents (if any) of ...\iTunes Media\Download, then try again.  If the problem persists contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history.

  • Songs end prematurely, skip to next track in iTunes 10.6.3

I wanted to see if other iTunes users are having this issue. I'm using iTunes 10.6.3 (the latest version), and both my wife and I are seeing the same behavior in our iTunes libraries with songs we've either purchased from the iTunes Store or that we've ripped from CDs. It doesn't seem to matter which.
The problem is a track will play and then stop abruptly before it's full length has played, and iTunes will then skip to the next track. This happened to me today with a new album I just purchased from the iTunes Store. 2 of the 13 tracks behaved this way. For example, if I'm playing a song that's 5:45 in length, iTunes will stop playing at 5:02 and jump to the next track.
It also just happened on an album I downloaded from the iTunes cloud. I'd purchased it a couple years ago from the iTunes Store. I played the album today and again, one track stopped short of its true length, and iTunes skipped to the next track.
So I guess the good news is it doesn't appear to a problem with corrupted tracks or anything. It points to a problem the iTunes application itself.
If anyone has experienced the same problem, please share what you know. Thanks in advance.

On the main iTunes screen, click on Purchased. That'll give you a list of your songs & albums stored on the cloud. The song(s) you've deleted should be available for download again (they'll have the cloud icon next to them). If not, sign out of iTunes and then sign back in again and go back through the same steps mentioned above. Hope this helps.

  • Songs cut short by skip to next track

I recently built a new system and upgraded from XP to Vista. However based on other posts I do not believe that either OS or hardware are a factor.
After migrating my music and library to the new system everything appeared to have worked perfectly. However I noticed that certain songs are being cut off short of their total play time. The time appears to be random from song to song but never changes for any particular song. If you move past the trigger point the song will play till the end. If you play the song in Quicktime it works fine.
I have checked the time in the Library.xml file, removed and replaced iTunes and installed earlier versions. Nothing works. This error does not appear to be common but does seem to affect a wide range of OS and hardware (yes even on Apple computers). Just search these forums for "skip next track".
None of the posts I have read provide any kind of solution. Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

I have a similar problem. I had accidently deleted my entire iTunes library when I reformatted my hard drive. I had a backup on an external hard drive. When I reimported the library to the reformatted hard drive I noticed the same problem that you have.
You might try what I tried. I opened the songs that skip in a sound editing program, one in which you can see the sound wave track. When I do this I can see that these songs now have gaps in them.....pretty much evenly spaced throughout the song. These gaps are about 3 seconds long, and are spaced around 30 seconds apart. One of my songs has gaps every 33 seconds. Others vary, some 23 seconds apart, other 31 seconds, others 35 seconds....but all of the gaps are about 3 seconds long.
When playing any of these "swiss cheese" songs that are filled with gaps, either in iTunes or on my iPod, as soon it gets to the first gap, it skips to the next song.

  • ITunes Randomly Skipping to Next Track

Just upgraded to the latest iTunes (9.0.3), and every single one of my songs skips.
Mostly happening around the 10 second mark, but it has been completely random also. The song displays the full length, but will randomly skip to the next track. I have been able to drag to anywhere in any song and have it play, but sometime it will skip randomly after that.
I have never had this issue before, and have not found a solution. After exhaustive searching, I have found that this was a bug in iTunes 7, especially for Windows. Since neither of these things is true for me, I am very confused.
Nobody has yet provided a functional solution to this ridiculous problem, and other threads of this type have been locked.
I would like somebody to either give me a working solution, or for Apple to admit that it is a problem and release a patch, instead of locking threads and pretending it doesn't happen.

    Hi Dakota--
This is not a universal problem. For example, my iTunes will play for hours and hours and it will never skip.
I noticed in some posts you made to the other, already answered, thread that your iTunes library is on an external drive. And that you've had some problems with the files where you get error -36, which is a disk I/O error.
That could be caused by a problem with the external drive or the FireWire cable. First thing I would do is try a different FireWire cable. Also make sure the cable is seated firmly in both the computer and the drive.
If that doesn't help, post back and I'll help you see if we can figure out if there's a problem with the external drive.

  • New purchases skipping to next track upon install of itunes 10.3.1.55

I upgraded to itunes 10.3.1.55 and then purchased a few new albums. The new albums when played in itunes just skip to the next track without playing anything. When it gets to a video within one of these albums it plays a black screen.
When these new albums are sync'ed to a device the device plays silence.
I have checked the individual tracks for odd start or stop times but none are set.
It appears fine with any music loaded before the upgrade. I have de-authorised all computers and re authorised the one I use to sync without any change.
I have just removed the Itunes program and re-installed. This also has apparently made no difference to the problem.
I have looked under the new purchased button within Itunes in attempt to download again but the "Music" option appears to be missing with only books and apps available.
Does anyone have any other ideas? I've reported a problem to apple via my receipts from the purchases of these albums but have heard nothing back.

Well as I mentioned earlier I had alreayd tried the uninstalling (as per the apple support website).
I went through trying to change the permissions - which seemed a little confusing as although I am the only use of the computer there were about 5 options - but I picked the one that was the same as my user name. Changed most of the permissions for program files and program files (x86) (some of them it wouldn't allow me to change "access denied"), restarted and tried to install again. Same thing happened as before - nothing.
I have never received the error message that was mentioned in that thread.
edit: I don't have anyone I can get the itunes files off at the moment, so I haven't tried transferring them from another computer.

  • Itunes skipping seconds and minutes off songs

i recently got a new laptop, then i installed itunes, when i synced all my songs to my ipod both my ipod and itunes started to skip the first few seconds of the songs, i didnt think it was that bad but eventully i'll click onto a song and it will start playing only the last few seconds of the song or skipping from the first 3 seconds to the last three, it worked fine one my other computer, is it my itunes or my ipod??? is there anyway I can solve this???? help...
(not all songs do this, though it does happen often and not always the same songs.)

If your songs are "mixing" into the next song go to itunes- preferences- playback and check if you have crossfade playback turned on. If it is and you do not want it to do this set it to 0.
If this is not the problem then please give more details.

  • 120GB - Beginning of songs distorted after skipping to next track

    Hey,
So I've had my 120Gb Classic for about 2 years now, and this morning it started to crackle and distort the beginning of any song that played after I skipped to them. I know that the Classics have a hard drive and not a flash drive like the newer, smaller iPods. I can feel the drive working away as the distortion comes through, is my hard drive going on the blink?! I hope not as it's out of warranty.

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • Iphone skip to next or previous song stalls, freezes or crashes iphone

Hello, daily when im listing to a playlist when I skip to the next song or skip back few my iphone will lock up or freeze for about 30 or so seconds, or it will crash and go to the home page.
This sounds like a hardware problem with reading data of the flash storage on the iphone itself. Anyone else see this or ever hear of this?
    thanks
    Its a hfs formatted iphone.

    Hi Scott,
In my experience, the songs that are skipping may not have transferred over to your iPhone correctly. I would advise you to uncheck the "Sync Music" checkbox, and apply the changes (so there is ultimately no music syncing to your iPhone).
Once you have done that, recheck the "Sync Music" checkbox, and apply the changes once more. This will instruct iTunes to completely remove all music from your iPhone, and then copy the files once more. If you have a large amount of music, this initial sync may take a while.

  • Skips to next track after a few seconds

when i have my ipod on shuffle it skips some songs after playing the first few seconds, please help!!!!!!

Remember the skipped songs, go into iTunes, highlight these songs, right-click, choose "convert to AAC (or MP3..whatever you've set). After converting delete the older songs, then sync your pod again and you're done!
    Regards, Chris
P.S.: The Problem is, that iPod nano has problems to playback some (unknown) encoded MP3 Tracks. So when you import your Songs always with iTunes itself, then iPod will play all songs perfectly (no matter if you convert them to AAC or MP3, which you can set in preferences in iTunes. You just have to import songs with iTunes).

  • Truncated Songs - Stop Playing/Skip to Next before the Song's Over

My AAC/protected AAC songs are stopping, or skipping to the next song, at about 10 seconds from the end.
I have singled this out to songs purchased during 2007 & 2008. Songs purchased earlier do not exhibit this behavior.
My entire iTunes library has been recovered from a crashed hard drive this weekend. I initially had trouble getting iTunes to import/"add to library" these 2007 songs, then I found a link to describing how to re-create the library: <docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313>. Following these steps made the 2007 songs playable, but now they are all shortened.
For the 2007 songs, I have one album that I burned to CD & reimported as MP3, in late 2007, before the disk crash. All songs (AAC and MP3) now show the same playing time, but the AAC's stop/skip before the end. The MP3 all play to 0:00 before stopping/skipping.
Any ideas what to do, or whom to contact, to fix this problem? Many thanks...

  • Zen Micro tracks are slipping and skipping to next track rando

Tracks are slipping and occasionally move onto another track randomly. Creative suggest system restore and downloading firmware. Has anyone had this problem and should I restore and download? I'm novice to MP3 blurb. Thanks.

OK, just for you (and to satisfy my own curiousity), I ripped?two tracks using?the WMA 9. codec and Easy CD-DA Extractor?(with metadata enabled of course) at 64 kbit/s to the PC. I copied it using MediaSource 3.0.09 to my Zen Micro (.02.05). The track data including track number is still there.

  • Why won't iTunes continue to the next track in an album?

    Hello.
After recently updating to iTunes 5.2 on my primary computer (a 1.5 GHz. 15-inch PowerBook G4 running Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard)), iTunes will not continue to the next song in an album once a song is finished. In "Album" view, for instance, if I mouse over an album and click "Play Album," iTunes will play the first track on that album, but then will not proceed to play the next track once the first track is finished playing. What's interesting is that I also cannot click the "Next" button (>>) in the upper left-hand corner of the iTunes window and have iTunes play the next track. If I do press the "Next" button, iTunes will instantly stop all music playback and deselect the highlighted abum (if any).
I have tried rebooting my computer and relaunching iTunes multiple times, but all trials have failed to solve the issue. In addition to restarting my computer, I have also tried reinstalling the iTunes application, but again with no luck.
I've looked through the "Preferences" menu (iTunes - Preferences) and have experimented with some of the vaious settings, but have also failed to find a solution.
In addition to my PowerBook, I have iTunes 10.5.2 running on my MacBook without any issues. The PowerPC archetecture of my PowerBook should not have anything to deal with it, should it?
Any help, suggestions, or comments regarding the issue would be greatly appreaciated.
    Thank you very much.

Okay, I figured out what the problem was. I had to "check" the checkboxes along the left-hand-side of of the track names. iTunes now plays through all of the tracks like it should. :-)
