ITunes skipping

I know this has been discussed, but thus far I have been unable to find a solution.
I have a new iMac (8 GB of memory) that is running OS X 10.8.4, with iTunes 11.0.4.  I'm re-downloading songs from my Cloud, as well as purchasing new music.  It is all skipping.  I just played a 4:26 minute song and it skipped roughly 30 times.  Some aren't as bad, but everything skips at least once.  I've tried deleting songs and re-downloading, doesn't work.  I've deleted my iTunes library and started fresh, nothing.  I've played some songs on QuickTime Player, and it's better; but not totally.
It will skip when iTunes is the only program running.  I can play things on Youtube, etc. while doing multiple tasks (like working in Photoshop), and everything works great/plays smoothly.
Any advice??  I know this is pretty insignificant in the long run, but it's driving me up a wall.  I never had this problem with older versions of iTunes.

I'm having a similar problem. My itunes works fine until I bring up another application like Outlook, then it begins stuttering and skipping like mad; I have to shut it down. In other words, I can't work on my computer and listen to music at the same time. Is there some way to fix this?

  • ITunes Skipping like a CD

I looked around in the community before posting this and no one has seemed to answer this or fix it.
This started happening recently. Songs that never skipped before are acting like a scratched CD. It's not the songs, because they play fine in finder. I don't have anymore programs open then I normally have. I usually keep safari, tweetdeck, x-chat and adium open all the time. When I'm working or cleaning the house I have iTunes open and it has never had an issue playing songs correctly. I don't know if it's a recent update or what, but I'm really getting annoyed with iTunes skipping on all of my music.
I have more then enough memory to run iTunes.

If you purchased the song from the iTunes Store go to your purchase history and re-download it from there. You will not be charged again.

  • New songs I add to iTunes skip to the next song half-way through

Whenever I import new music that I have downloaded, iTunes skips to the next track half-way through. I don't have this problem with other songs, or when I transfer the songs to my iPhone or iPad. Does anyone know why this may be happening?

Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting the incomplete tracks from your iTunes library and redownload them via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if they re-download in the same state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find those songs and use the 'Report a Problem' link.

  • HT203167 I've downloaded the Now Christmas album, all but 1 song has been downloaded and put in my library.  The list says it's there but when I go to play it, iTunes skips past it and goes to the next song.  I have downloaded lastest version of iTunes.

I have purchased and downloaded the Now Christmas album to my iTunes libary and all but 1 song have been purchased.  The song appears in my library but when I go to play it iTunes skips past it and goes to the next song.  It wouldn't normally bother me but its the only song my son wants to hear all the time (hopefully the heart strings will be pulled here and someone will reply before Christmas to help me!)  I've loaded the last verison of iTunes.

Will the media file play with Quicktime Player? If it will then it's an iTunes issue. If it won't then you need to delete the file and download it a second time.

  • ITunes skips on my Mac

I have read about this problem on Windows machines, but not on the Mac. I have a new MacBook Pro with enough processing power for anything imaginable, and I am getting a lot of skipping with iTunes 7.3. It doesn't occur with all songs - I can't figure out anything common to the songs it does occur with. It occurs both with iTunes downloads and songs I have ripped from my CDs. I have tried some of the PC suggestions, such as turning off the equalizer and sound enhancer, with no luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Does iTunes skip when Safari is not running? I have had audio playback problems on every Mac I've used when Safari is open, so I no longer use that browser. The cause of your playback problem may be different, and it's a good start that you've disabled a couple of the extra effects in iTunes already. In addition to what you've disabled already, you might as well turn off Crossfade playback (basically unnecessary now that iTunes has gapless playback) and Sound Check to see if that helps.

  • TS1424 iTunes skip the first two songs of the album I just purchased from the iTunes Store?

Why does iTunes skip the first two songs of the album I just purchased from the iTunes Store?
I previously checked that the download was complete.  (Had plenty of time, but checked nonetheless it was done.)  I have closed and reopened iTunes several times.  Frustrated.

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • ITunes skips and stutters

Itunes skips and stutters, and the program locks up and won't close, requiring me to use the task manager to stop the "program that is not responding". I have deleted itunes and then downloaded it again, but I have the same problem. Everthing else works fine and both Norton and Advanced SystemCare6 indicate there are no viruses or anything. Has anyone been able to correct this problem? Thanks! I don't want to go back to Windows Media Player!!! (Note: Version 11.1.0.126)

Yes, it's just untenable. I hate to leave iTunes behind, but I can't deal with this situation. Are you going to scrap iTunes and go back to WMP, or do you have a better program in mind?

  • ITunes skips when there is mouse activity

A few times this has happened when I am working on the PC iTunes skips. When I stop, it continues fine. Anyone else have this problem and a resolution?
    Thanks in advance.

I am afraid this can be an intractable for some people.
If you are not on the latest iTunes, upgrade. I never got 7.0 to run without skipping under pressure, but the latest vesion is fine for me. Also make sure you are upto date with your drivers.
Apple offers this general help on playback issues:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93610
Some virus checkers seem to cause problems, briefly disabling checking to see if this makes a difference is worthwhile. Exclude iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Muisc Library.xml if disabling virus checking helps. Mostly virus checking causes symptoms around tack change over.
If you have an identical PC at work that is OK, it might be worth looking for differences in set up.
A simple thing to look at which is a real long shot is: right click My Computer:
    Properties>Advanced>Performance>Advanced.
Processor scheduling and Memory usage should be set to programs.
I don't want to get into the virtual memory side as it is outside my experience.
Good luck, but I am afiad this can be a difficult one.

  • ITunes skips after recent format/partitioning

    Hi,
I'm having a slight issue with itunes skipping at the moment, I recently formated my 90gb 5400rpm Hard drive (which I think may be the issue) into four partitions:
    50gb - Vista (NTFS)
    30gb - Shared Files (NTFS)
    10gb - Ubuntu (xfs3)
My iTunes libary (8gb) is stored on the 30gb shared partiton, where it was previously stored on the one partition I had before, (No linux).
Does having your music on a seperate partition affect the read speed?
I'm using the latest version of iTunes and MS Vista is fully up-to-date.

Oh well, it was a possibility.
If you want to roll back to 11.4 uninstall all iTunes/Apple components, restore the pre-upgrade version of your library as described inEmpty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash, then download and install from one of these direct links:
    iTunes 11.4.0.18 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2014-09-09)
    iTunes 11.4.0.18 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe (2014-09-09)

  • ITunes skips at eight seconds

Ever since the update to 7.6 that came out a couple of days ago, my iTunes skips at about 8-9 seconds. It pauses for 5-10 seconds and then picks up at around 20 seconds, not playing the music during missed that time.
During this time, if I watch the activity monitor, disk activity spikes to 15.62 MB/sec. CPU activity goes up somewhat during this time as well.
    Annoying!
This is on a 1.66Ghz Intel Core Duo, 1GB 677Mhz DDR2 SDRAM, Mac Mini.

So after reading the posts to date, I found iTunes 7.6 (29) on main internal drive 7.5 on my other internal drive in my PPC G5 (both drives running X.4.11 (8S165) Darwin 8.11.0), G5 will play audio fine from my iMac's internal HD library (running Itunes 7.6 (29) and X.4.11 (8S2167) Darwin 8.11.1), but G5 will not play any video files in 7.5, 7.6 on G5 will play videos fine so far, still get the spinning wheel of death 8 seconds in when I play any file on my iMac's iTunes where the actual file(s) exist.
It appears the problem is in my Intel iMac X.4.11 (8S2167) and or Darwin 8.11.1, I will update if that changes.
Last time I tried to back up my 100GB of tunes to my 114GB external drive overheated and is now inoperable aka: paperweight. It seems some of the JPEG'S have corrupt data in iTunes but cant find any app to fix this either. I also get a temp stuffit file that appears in my user preferances folder for a fraction of a second starting with cf# then some random number every few minutes haven't found a pattern as of yet on that one.

  • ITunes skipping during audio while browsing the web - Quicktime issue?

iTunes 11.1.2 for Win 7 is skipping during playback of audio when I am browsing the web.  Is this a Quicktime issue?  I tried changing the audio output device latency but it didn't do anything different as far as skipping goes.  Any suggestions?

Actually, that doesn't work either.  Here's the solution that is working consistently:
Go to iTunes, and Preferences > Playback tab > Play Audio Using > Windows Audio Session instead of Direct Sound.  There we go, that works!!

  • Itunes skipping tracks, Apple ID/password combo suspected

Installed Itunes Match yesterday as it seemed a good way to have my tracks available everywhere. My library consists of a mix of ripped CD's and tracks bought via the ITunes Store (2007-present), all very legal. The music itself is in a library on a Mac Mini server. Via home sharing that works fine as long as i'm in range of my Wifi/Ethernet. So no problems at all on my IMac, Apple TV or any IOS device.
After the installation of Match it run through my library and found around 5600 tracks, after a while all these tracks where either matched or uploaded. only a few showed errors, mostyly explainable (max size). So far so good, ready to listen!
But when i turn on Match on any of my devices (IOS, IMac, Apple TV) i guess around 99% of my tracks get skipped, ATV showing the message "material not found". Now it seems i have the most succes with the most recent bought tracks, but even that is not entirely true for all tracks. If I show all tracks on an IPhone I can see there are as many tracks as Match tells me it matched. They show up in the list with a small ICloud symbol beside them, but they get skipped when played and can not be downloaded.
Now i suspect a password issue: i had to change my PW earlier this year (around january) and at some time I logged in on 2 separate Apple ID's.
Now it seems (but hard to prove...) that:
All music I bought on my present Apple ID/password combination is playing well,
all music I recently bought on the other Apple ID is not playing,
all music I bought on my former Apple ID/password combination (pre-january) is not playing,
all music I ripped on my former Apple ID/password combination is not playing.
So a conclusion: only music imported (either bought or ripped) on the same Apple ID (with password) you use with your Itunes Match can be played. I will test this by buying and ripping some tracks under my present ID/password. I expect them to work well.
Can anyone come tot the same conclusion?
Are there solutions to this problem? (other then again buying/ripping 5000+ tracks on my present Apple ID...)

Okay, just bought the new Racoon album in the ITunes store. I did that from my Mac Mini server so it blended in with the rest of my music. ITunes Match did its work and made almost instant a match in the cloud. A few minutes later I logged out and in to Match on my IPhone and there the tracks showed up like advertised.
This still supports my claim that this has to do with the Apple ID/password combination.
Now I will try to rip a CD directly into my server and see if this will give the result that it will be matched as well. i will do that with an album that at present is skipped in my lists when i try to play it out of the cloud (although it claims to be matched).

  • Why is itunes skipping like a CD since Downloading Version 12

I have never had this problem with any prior release of itunes. I downloaded the new 12 version yesterday 10/20/14 and immediately had issues with all music skipping like a scratched CD. This includes music from my library as well as itunes Radio stations (All but NPR for some reason??). I checked my background programs, CPU usage, etc and there is nothing out of the ordinary or excessive hampering performance. Has anyone else had this issue? I have seen this question asked several times and no valid answers posted to date. Please help!

  • Itunes skips on windows 7 64 bit

    Hello,
I have recently installed itunes and some songs will only play for about 8 seconds and then skip to the next song as if a CD was skipping. I have changed the quicktime settings from direct sound to wave but still have the same issue. This only occurs with itunes, any other audio works fine. I currently have an AMD phenom quad core processor with 8gigs of ram and I'm using the onboard sound on my Asus M4A78T mobo and windows 7 64bit. Also, I was not running any other programs in the background. Any ideas of why this is happening?

Try deleting the itunes shortcut and rebuilding a new one.
Post back if you need more info on that.

  • IOS 7.0.2 on iPhone 4S iTunes skips my songs.

I updated to 7.0.2 today and when I play a number of songs on iTunes on my iPhone 4S, they're all skipped.  Sometimes entire playlists skip.  When I go to my songs, and just start playing all of them, it skips the first 63 before it starts playing one.  I checked iTunes on my MacBook Pro and all the songs play fine so it's not the files.  I've re-synched my entire music library and the songs are still skipping.  Anyone have any suggestions?

I was able to resolve my own issue by completely wiping my iPhone and starting over with the iOS 7 installation.  However this time I told it to set my device up as a new phone.  Once I was done with the initial setup, I connected to my Macbook Pro and iTunes, I then elected to "restore" my iPhone.  I restored from the last backup of iOS 7.0 that I had and this time, when it readded all my music, everything played as expected.  I hope this helps someone else.
