ITunes skips and stutters

Itunes skips and stutters, and the program locks up and won't close, requiring me to use the task manager to stop the "program that is not responding". I have deleted itunes and then downloaded it again, but I have the same problem. Everthing else works fine and both Norton and Advanced SystemCare6 indicate there are no viruses or anything. Has anyone been able to correct this problem? Thanks! I don't want to go back to Windows Media Player!!! (Note: Version 11.1.0.126)

Yes, it's just untenable. I hate to leave iTunes behind, but I can't deal with this situation. Are you going to scrap iTunes and go back to WMP, or do you have a better program in mind?

  • ITunes skips and stutters while working.

iTunes has begun sounding terrible when I'm doing other work that is processor intensive.  Whether streaming or playing files, while I'm editing images in Adobe Lightroom.  OS 10.7.2 iTunes 10.5.  Its nearly unlistenable.

Update.  No skipping via my two sets of airtunes speakers plugged into airport express.  Only skipping on my USB Soundsticks plugged directly into my iMac.
    Thanks!

  • Iphone Music player skips and stutters with MP3s

With the upgrade to iOS 5 (and 5.0.1) on my iPhone 3GS (32GB) I began to notice skips and stutters on numerous MP3s about 10 to 30 seconds into the song. I don't remember having any problems prior to iOS5 upgrade.
The skips and stutters are somewhat reproducible in that, if I hear the skip or stutter, if I go back to the beginning of the song and play the song again, the skip or stutter will happen in approximately the same spot and will be of approximately the same nature (a repeated phrase or a jump or a distortion) but it isn't exactly the same.
Most of my songs are 256kbps VBR MP3s ripped either by iTunes from my own CDs or purchased from Amazon.
The facts (1) that the skip/stutter/or distortion is not exactly the same each time (2) the skips and stutters seem localized to the first 10 to 30 seconds of the song, then they play fine afterward, (3) that I don't have problems playing these songs under iTunes on my MacBook pro, and (4) it happens both with iTunes ripped MP3s and Amazon MP3s, would seem to be some form of OS problem rather than coding error. My guess would be some form of buffering issue or OS scheduling issue.
Has anyone else noticed these problems?

I experienced the same problem with my Iphone 5 skipping and not playing the music in my library correctly. I called apple and they gave me a solution that worked so far.
The problem in my case was created by restoring the new phone from icloud. Apparently, if you have a lot of music or data, the music files don't completely download.
Of course, make sure your music is backed up before starting
Solution: connect iphone to itunes / select the music tab / uncheck sync music altogether / hit apply or sync (this should remove all music files from your phone) / when completed, re-check the sync entire music library or select your custom playlists-songs you want on your phone / then click apply or sync to put back all music on phone.
    This should solve your problems

  • Dvd skipping and stuttering

after i make dvd with IDVD it plays on mac dvd player without a problem. Using any other dvd player is always a problem. skipping and stuttering. installed "toast 10" and am happy with it, but very disappointed in IDVD

    Hi
    My list on Bad DVDs
    *DVD quality*
    1. iDVD 08 & 09 has three levels of qualities.
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality (movies up to 120 min.) - BEST
    • Best Performances (movies less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
    2. From
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not selfcontaining, no conversion)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
    3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly eg x1 (in iDVD’08 or 09 this can also be set)
This can also be done with (Apple) Disk Util tool.
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc).
    5. Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW)
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
    8. Don’t burn more than three DVD at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while befor next batch.
    iDVD quality also depends on.
    • HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
    • What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
    • What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JESDeinterlacer3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS. They are plabacked by a Mac - then You need not to care
    • What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
    • How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD’08 or 09
Pro Quality (only in iDVD 08 & 09)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choise)
    1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD 08 & 09
    2. Project info. Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD 08 & 09.
    Region codes.
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes.
    1 = US
    2 = EU

  • Audio From Speakers Keeps Skipping and Stuttering on HP ENVY 15-j185nr

Hi I have a HP ENVY 15-j185nr and My speakers audio keeps skipping and stuttering and i can see in the beats audio control panel that it fluctuates in the levels between the Bass and Treble and also The Volume. Now When I connect my Beats Wireless Headphones to My Computer i have no problem with the audio on the bluetooth side but when i connect the headphones on the wired side and plug it into the computer audio jack the audio is playing from both headphones and speakers and it is STILL skipping and Stuttering. My Computer OS was 8.1 Enterprise when this Problem Occured and since then I've updated to Windows 10 Enterprise by Doing a clean install hoping that this will fix the problem but it didn't After i updated my windows OS I can now see in the Device Manager in the Sound, Video and Game Controllers Category that my High Definition Audio Device have a yellow triangle exclamation point icon under it and its device status says This device cannot start. (Code 10) {Operation Failed} The requested operation was unsuccessful. The driver version is 10.0.10240.16384 and The drver date is Thursday July 9. 2015.  i've uninstalled and resinstalled the driver numerous times and the exclamation icon is still there and i wanted to know is it a Hardware problem or a Driver Problem?. Is this a simple fix or do i have to take it in and get it fix by a computer tech? can anybody please help me?

    Hi,
    Try the following
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63501-64000/sp63555.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link.
    Chipset Driver - Windows 8.1
When the reinstallation has completed, shut down the notebook by holding down the Shift key as you click Shutdown to temporarily prevent a hybrid boot.  Then unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

  • Itunes skips and pauses playback of purchased music

I have a Macbook Pro, using 10.5.8, and the most up-to-date itunes (9.2.1). The pauses/skips happen in EVERY song I've purchased from the i-tunes store (this does not happen with music from my CD collection).
My activity monitor has no strange usage (only open programs are itunes, firefox, and text edit).
Any help appreciated, especially as I paid specifically for these songs and would like to be able to hear them!

You are correct, sir. I was confused. I reposted my observations on the Mac side. This thread can be deleted by whomever might be able to do that.

  • ITunes skips and delays while playing movies.

Often while playing movies on iTunes the video will freeze while audio still runs. When I try to skip ahead to another part of the movie, the screen blacks out entirely, while still playing audio. I have OS X Lion and iTunes 10.5.2 and otherwise the program runs fine for music. Any ideas or comments?

Update.  No skipping via my two sets of airtunes speakers plugged into airport express.  Only skipping on my USB Soundsticks plugged directly into my iMac.
    Thanks!

  • Playback of songs on iTunes "skips" or "stutters"....Help!

When I'm playing my iTunes, in between songs more often than not, the beginning of the next song will skip or stutter for some time, maybe up to five seconds or so.
What is the cause of this? And how can I fix it?
    Thanks in advance...
I have a Dell Dimension 4500 with Windows XP and the latest version of iTunes.

Did you ever find a solution to this? I'm having the same problem.

  • Is skipping and stuttering the famed Dropped Frames...

Been pulling hair ever since upping to QT 7.0.3 and FCP 5.0.3. All of a sudden my former 4.5 clips are acting crazy in 5. Even when I just open them in QT the ones captured since updates act crazy. Old clips play fine. Did the 7.0.1 reInstall, dumped QT preferences, but still get stuttering action. JUST curious if this is the famed demonic dropped frame symptom?

Open the clips in FCP, and play them frame by frame over the skipping parts. Look at the timecode numbers. Do they jump as well? If so...dropped frames.

  • Music skips and stutters over bluetooth

I use the default music player with a bluetooth speaker & in the car. The music will go quiet like a skipping track, but the music doesn't stop, it comes back in at the right point of the song. It's just as though it's randomly muted. I have looked online for fixes & I've cleared the cache partition twice. This helps the issue for a couple weeks, but doesn't fix it. I've had this issue since I bought the phone in early December of 2014. What should I do?

I understand your reasoning, but I'm almost positive this isn't my problem. I keep the phone in the cup holder, directly under the stereo. Also, my car is a 2013 model, so it isn't like my stereo system is outdated. Thanks for your reply.

  • My Illustrator CS4 skips and stutters.

When I'm working in Illustrator, objects stick when I try and move them.  It takes a few seconds but they do eventually move.  It doesn't happen all the time but as my work sessions progresses it gets worse and more consistent.  It also stops my internet music from streaming when this happens.  I'm running cs4 on my macbookpro running 10.5.8 I also use the font program suitcase fusion 2 if that needs to be known. This problem is fairly new and at one point illustrator worked flawlessly. Please help! I am dependent on this program for work and now its bunk!

What have you done since then? Installed something, updated changed workflow?
    Try preferences: Anti-alias-option and/or High-Res-EPS-option
Have you perhaps turned on overprint preview?
Of course Suitcase may be the source of problems. Have youtried truning it off? Have you installed the latest version?
Try debug-palette: Cmd+Alt+shift+F12. Then Purge Undos

  • Itunes skips and osx nearly freezes when macbook is knocked

the title kind of explains it?
It didnt happen on my old pc?
    why should it happen now?
    help me out

These macbooks park the drive heads when they sense being knocked. Your older PC probably did not. The theory is that parking the heads during movement will prevent the disk from crashing hard should the jolt be too intense.
When the heads park, the drive is no longer accessing the data, thus the near freeze.

  • Itunes studdering and Skipping

I just purchased a macbook pro with leopard. I work as a DJ and use my computer to play all my music. I plug a mix board into into my computer through the head phone jack to play the music. Itunes skips and studders on various songs in different places. I know this is not a problem with the songs themselves because it does not happen in the same place eveytime. Also I haven't been able to get the songs to skip while listening at home. When the songs starts to studder my arrow and comp just kind of freezes up for a minute and I can't do anything. Almost like it is busy reading something but I have nothing else on, not even my airport. My previous computer was a powerbook G4 and I never had this problem.
Is there a known problem with macbook pro or leopard that could be making my itunes do this? Does anyone have a possible solution? Please help my work is greatly suffering from this!!!

i too have had this problem - twice in the past two days. with just itunes/safari/adium/mail and activity monitor running. the first time, i got up quickly with my macbook pro took two steps and itunes started skipping the last halfsecond on loop and the mouse froze. i rebooted and repaired permissions.
just now i woke up for work and my router had crapped out. i couldn't access it through safari so i went to do a manual restart, and the moment i unplugged it, itunes started skipping and the mouse froze.
both times i didn't wait to see if it would even out, i just restarted and repaired permissions, but i've had this computer for half a year with no problems like this and now within the past week and a half two weeks i've had one kernel panic and now two of these

  • Why does my 16gb 6th generation ipod nano skip and stutter during playback?

Why does my 16gb 6th generation ipod nano skip and stutter during playback?

    Try a hard reset first.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Volume Down button
until the screen goes dark. The Apple logo appears after a few seconds,
    and then the Home screen.
If that doesn't work, try a restore of the device in iTunes.
Otherwise, does this skipping and stuttering only happen with certain tracks?  What format are these tracks in and where they come from (outside of iTunes or from the iTunes store itself)?

  • New MAC PRO: itunes audio playback-stuttering, glitching, skipping

I have a brand new mac pro 3.2ghz quad, with 8gb ram (bought a couple weeks ago). All seems fine with the exception of brief skips, glitches and stutters with audio playback in itunes. I tried updating to itunes 11 and this did not resolve the problem. My music files play fine on my girlfriends macbook pro (purchased over a year ago), and never had any problems on my old machine (imac 24inch aluminum). I went to apple with the problem and after multiple system recoveries they determined that the computer was faulty and sent me a replacement. I just received the replacement and tested out some downloaded music from the itunes store and the same problem happened. Am I just unlucky to get two computers with this issue? Is it the Mac Pros? Has anyone had this issue with mac based machines, specifically the mac pros? I saw another thread on the issue but seemed to be primarily windows users running itunes. The skipping happens as frequent as every 20-30 seconds to every few minutes, but it is definitely enough to notice
    Thanks.
    Baffled,
    Greg

    Hi Greg.
I seem to have discovered this problem this weekend. I listen to a lot of music from my apple devices and have done for years. What I have noticed this weekend is that both my Macbook 2008 and iMac late 2010 both suffer with a brief stutter every minute or so making the enjoyment of listening to music a little annoying. Both are running Mountain Lion 10.8.2. My iMac is running the 2.93 GHz intel i7 processor with 8GB ram. Playing music should be a doddle!
From my point of view both Macs are running independently to external speakers. The music I am running on those 2 devices has been ripped on both devices. e.g. Macbook has ripped and plays Apple Lossless format and my iMac has ripped and plays songs in 320kbps. My guess is its a bug with the new iTunes 11 or Mountain Lion although I have been using 11 since its release.
While I'm not able to supply a fix I think its safe to say its not your new Mac Pro. One other thing to note is that I have been running up until this weekend a 7 or 8 year old Mac Mini as a media device in my kitchen playing Apple Lossless format with no issues at all. This device however is running Snow Leopard with all updates applied. The Macbook is now playing the Lossless music with stutters that was ripped on the Mac Mini that was playing OK.
So is the problem Mountain Lion?
    Take care
    Paul
