Itunes skips tracks halfway through

I recently made a few purchases. In itunes when I play them back they automatically skip to the next track about 30 seconds from the end.

I figured out a pretty straightforward solution to isolate and re-import affected .m4p files that randomly skip to the next track before the current track completes.

  • Movie Rented Through Itunes Stops Playing Halfway Through the Movie

I rented a movie through Itunes and halfway through the movie it pauses and won't let me finish playing it. Because I've started watching the movie I only have 24 hours to fix the problem and finish watching it otherwise my money will be wasted.
I cannot skip ahead to a different part of the movie. It always stops on the same part.

Contact the iTunes Store Support Team at this link. Explain the problem and they should be able to help you.

  • Itunes skipping tracks, Apple ID/password combo suspected

Installed Itunes Match yesterday as it seemed a good way to have my tracks available everywhere. My library consists of a mix of ripped CD's and tracks bought via the ITunes Store (2007-present), all very legal. The music itself is in a library on a Mac Mini server. Via home sharing that works fine as long as i'm in range of my Wifi/Ethernet. So no problems at all on my IMac, Apple TV or any IOS device.
After the installation of Match it run through my library and found around 5600 tracks, after a while all these tracks where either matched or uploaded. only a few showed errors, mostyly explainable (max size). So far so good, ready to listen!
But when i turn on Match on any of my devices (IOS, IMac, Apple TV) i guess around 99% of my tracks get skipped, ATV showing the message "material not found". Now it seems i have the most succes with the most recent bought tracks, but even that is not entirely true for all tracks. If I show all tracks on an IPhone I can see there are as many tracks as Match tells me it matched. They show up in the list with a small ICloud symbol beside them, but they get skipped when played and can not be downloaded.
Now i suspect a password issue: i had to change my PW earlier this year (around january) and at some time I logged in on 2 separate Apple ID's.
Now it seems (but hard to prove...) that:
All music I bought on my present Apple ID/password combination is playing well,
all music I recently bought on the other Apple ID is not playing,
all music I bought on my former Apple ID/password combination (pre-january) is not playing,
all music I ripped on my former Apple ID/password combination is not playing.
So a conclusion: only music imported (either bought or ripped) on the same Apple ID (with password) you use with your Itunes Match can be played. I will test this by buying and ripping some tracks under my present ID/password. I expect them to work well.
Can anyone come tot the same conclusion?
Are there solutions to this problem? (other then again buying/ripping 5000+ tracks on my present Apple ID...)

Okay, just bought the new Racoon album in the ITunes store. I did that from my Mac Mini server so it blended in with the rest of my music. ITunes Match did its work and made almost instant a match in the cloud. A few minutes later I logged out and in to Match on my IPhone and there the tracks showed up like advertised.
This still supports my claim that this has to do with the Apple ID/password combination.
Now I will try to rip a CD directly into my server and see if this will give the result that it will be matched as well. i will do that with an album that at present is skipped in my lists when i try to play it out of the cloud (although it claims to be matched).

  • Skipping songs halfway through

Recently, my 6-month-old 80 GB iPod has been skipping songs. The song will start playing and then, at some random point, it will stop and go to the next song. If I go back and fast forward through the song past the skipping point, it plays fine. However, if I fast forward to before the skipping point, it will most likely skip again at the same point. It happens with random songs at random points. Any suggestions or solutions?

The iPod Classic seems to fail to play the occasional track that iTunes, and indeed earlier iPod's, are happy to play. There is probably some minor technical error in the internal structure of the file which is normally ignored by other playback software but causes the Classic to bail out.
Some users have suggested that completely removing all id3 tags and then replacing the information is often a solution. This can be achieved in iTunes by selecting an affected track, right/option clicking and using the option Convert id3 tags > None. Since some files may mistakenly have more than one tag you may need to repeat this action. Once you have confirmed that no tag is present you can replace the tag information using Convert id3 tags > V2.3 (I believe it is recommended to avoid using V2.4).
Personally I've have found files for which this solution doesn't work. In this case the workaround is either to re-rip the tracks or get iTunes to re-encode the file, e.g. convert AAC to MP3 or vice versa and sync the newly encoded file to the iPod instead. Because transcoding will cause a loss of fidelity you should keep your original file so that if a future iPod firmware resolves this issue you can put your original file back onto the iPod.

  • ITunes skipping tracks in the middle

I have a bunch of new tracks that I've added to iTunes, and I would say 25% of the time, iTunes will play 30 seconds of the song and then just skip to the next track for no reason and without registering a play count.  All of the start and end times are right for the tracks, its just randomly skipping them.  Also, if it skips a track, and I play it again, it will skip to the next song again at the exact same point.  So far there is nothing I can do to stop these particular tracks from skipping.  Needless to say its extremely annoying. Is this happening to anyone else? Anyone know a way to make it stop?
    Thanks

In iTunes, select all the songs.
    Right click, get info.
Click the Options tab and set *Remember playback position* to No.

  • ON MY IPAD2 MY I ITUNES RENTALS STOP HALFWAY THROUGH

I have downloaded several rental videos from itunes. The videos downloaded fine but when I play them they freeze half way through the movie. Has anyone got a solution for this?

Even though they appeared to download correctly - that doesn't mean that the download is not corrupt. It doesn't mean that it is either. It's really hard to tell.
Try quitting the videos app and restart the iPad and see if it is any better.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • I-tunes skipping songs halfway through!!

Hi, i am using the latest version of i-tunes on maverick and it is causing massive problems. Every song in my library is skipped around half way through making it impossible to listen to music on my mac. Has anybody had this problem or have any idea how to solve it? its becoming extremely frustrating and i am unable to listen back to anything in full. Thanks for you help

Yep, same for me. First I thought it was something with AirPlay, as I play music to my appletv on a hifi system. But I've been listening with headphones now, and same thing happens. Very annoying.

  • Itunes shuts down halfway through syncing

I start Itunes and plug in my itouch and it starts syncing all the way to "Backing up" ipod. Then an error message pops up and says itunes has to shut down.

Not sure ... since the msvcrt.dll result is rare, I don't have it strongly correlated with any given cause. I thought I'd check on the podcast thing because it's probably the most common cause of this sort of of crash (although usually the error for that does cite a QuickTime component of some sort rather than the dll we're seeing with you).
I'm still wondering about the operating system and its interface with applications on the PC.
Even though you aren't getting the symptoms described in the following troubleshooting document, I think it might be worth a try in this context:
[iTunes for Windows: "iTunes was not installed properly. Please reinstall iTunes" message|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3074]
(The theory here is that the .NET framework is one of the things that Windows uses to stop programs getting their dlls in a tangle. So a subtle problem with the .NET framework might cause an msvcrt.dll error on a sync, rather than the more usual launch issues.)

  • ITunes STILL skipping tracks (V. 11.4)

Ok, so I've had the problem of itunes skipping tracks in mid song, or just at any point.  For any particular album, the skip is at the exact same time.  This is getting very annoying.  I have tried: disk utility, installing and uninstalling itunes, rebuilding the library, removing extensions, adding and removing tracks, and adding and removing tracks.  It is worth mentioning that this only happens with tracks that I have added recently.  It is also worth mentioning that the tracks play just fine on other playback apps like Quicktime.  I had hoped the 11.4 update would fix this bug, but it has not.
I would GREATLY appreciate it if anybody has discovered the solution to this problem.  Otherwise, I will have no choice but to replace iTunes as my music playback application, and that would be a real bummer.
    Thank you.

Still waiting for a solution, I found a kind of workaround (not very useful if you had a lot of new music since you experience the bug).
I came to think that the problem is due to a bug in the analysis that iTunes performs to album tracks when importing new albums (what was called "gapless playback before iTunes 11). So I tried this and it works for me:
    - ask iTunes to show where the tracks are (in the Finder on Mac, in Explorer on PC)
    - return to iTunes and remove the tracks from the library (tell it to remove the songs but not to put the files in the trash)
    - in the Finder (or Explorer for those on PC), re-import the songs one by one
Still waiting for a better solution of course. I'll try to rebuild the iTunes library entirely to see if it solves the problem but I don’t expect this to solve the problem so I'm not in a rush to do this annoying task.

    i'm just wondering:
    a) why it does this
and b) how to stop it doing this, because it still charges me for the song :/

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • Bought a new album; Songs skip halfway through, how do i prevent this?

I recently spent 16 dollars on a new album ive been anticapating listening to. I get ready to hear it for the first time and all is going well until the first songs skips to the next song about halfway through play. I listen to the next song and it skips aswell. every song on the album stops playing about halfway through and skips to the next song, which basically results in me having no music. I tried moving the cursor (what ever you call it) to the later bits of the song/s but it will automatically skip and wont let me play it from their. What can i do to fix this?
P.s this occurs on my ipod AND Itunes.

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past purchases, delete the current copies from your iTunes library, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

  • Skips 2 nxt song halfway through playing

What is wrong if halfway through a song my ipod skips on to the next song even though the previous one isn't over? It happens all the time and can't listen to half of my songs.

Well Drake Bradley, it wasn't THAT drastic of a solution. I just unchecked the only playlist that I had synced to the iPod and then told it to sync, thereby removing all mp3 files from the iPod, and the re-checked and re-synced. Unfortunately, while this wasn't drastic, it also wasn't a solution. The same files still fail to play properly.
However, I've determined pretty conclusively that the iPod isn't the problem. Silly me, I went to all of that trouble of re-ripping tons of songs right before my vacation, and I never bothered to listen to any of those songs in iTunes until today. Same problem in iTunes, completely independent of the iPod. The only difference is that iTunes doesn't get hung up for several seconds without knowing what to do - it hits what it thinks is the end of the file, and immediately skips to the next track, upping the play count as if it had played the file all the way through. I've watched the little marker that shows how far into the song you are as it scrolls across... as soon as the time elapsed and the time remaining match, it jumps immediately to -0:00 (the end of the track) and then plays the next one. It's as if I had edited the file's Options and set "Stop Time" to halfway through the track. (Exactly halfway makes sense - the old file was 96 kbps, the new file is 192 kbps, and 96 is half of 192.)
A few interesting things that I discovered after further experimentation:
    1. I can fast-forward past the halfway point of any of these files, and it will play the rest of the song just fine. It's only when it actually hits that "halfway" point that it skips. So the full song is there in iTunes and on the iPod, it's just thinking the end of file is in the middle of the file.
    2. Just to see if the problem was intrinsic to the mp3, I tried to play a few in RealPlayer (the application that I used to rip the songs). They play fine in that application.
    3. Removing the songs from my iTunes library and then manually re-adding them to the library appears to fix the playback problem. However, all data that was specifically set in iTunes (album artwork, play count, date last played) and not intrinsic to the ID tags is lost when I do this. I would find it irksome if I had to lose all of that data for hundreds of songs just to get them to play, but I suppose I could live with it.
Your suggestion about re-encoding in AAC format just isn't gonna cut it, because I have several hundred files that I'd have to do this for. I've experimented with the iTunes encoder - it does its job just fine, but I don't like how it names the files or what folder it puts them in. I have to manually delete the old duplicate files from the library. That's a pain. iTunes should be able to recognize that a file has been modified and bring in all data relevant to the new file, even if it has the same filename as the old file. One thing I did make sure to do when I re-ripped all of those songs was to click "Edit Info" in iTunes after highlighting an album's worth of them, and watch as the bitrate updated to 192 and the album artwork disappeared (which I then re-downloaded), and iTunes seems to understand that the file changed, but is still ending at the point in memory where the old file ended. It's a bug in iTunes. I will report it in great detail when I talk to an Apple technician on the phone later today, and I will expect that they will fix it by the release of iTunes 9 at the very latest.

  • New songs I add to iTunes skip to the next song half-way through

Whenever I import new music that I have downloaded, iTunes skips to the next track half-way through. I don't have this problem with other songs, or when I transfer the songs to my iPhone or iPad. Does anyone know why this may be happening?

Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting the incomplete tracks from your iTunes library and redownload them via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if they re-download in the same state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find those songs and use the 'Report a Problem' link.
