ITunes slow when changing some info???
Hello,
I've bought a few videos from iTunes and if I decide to change the genre or artwork, it is really slow to update the info. The beach ball spins and spins.
It is only in the genre and artwork.
What could cause this? Should I use a different meta data editor than iTunes itself??
Cheers
Any experience creating a RAM disk, specifically for helping iTunes run faster?
I am on a 2006 iMac coreDuo with 2GB RAM. Snow leopard latest.
ITunes library is 500GB, so library file is 25MB and the library xml is 136MG.
The genius lib file is 1.2GB.
Anyway, running alone, iTunes is sluggish giving the spinning wheel anytime I ask it to do anything that writes to or reads from disk the itunes Library file. So managing the collection, sorting names playlist creations and modification, all the daily doings of my music maintenance involve this library file being accessed all the time.
I think this is at the core of my sluggish iTunes. Mac OS activiity monitor shows free ram, and a modest 40GB virtual memory use. Even when other apps are involved, there is still free RAM. anyway, as soon as I ask itunes to do something in a new field, like go from scrolling artists to viewing the main list, and clicking sort all songs by date added..boom boom pow, I get the damned rainbow wheel.
Is my bottleneck, as I think, the disk write-time for the library file and library XML, or will my problem e solved with a new iMac ro even a new mini? If it is the disk write time beings slow, is there a way to either trim the file size or get the read-write faster than an internal drive already is?
Would a RAM disk help. Can I direct iTunes to use RAM disk scratch space, or perhaps create an applet that will pair with Itunes launching, create a RAM disk and create a fresh copy of the iTune library there, and keep it synced with the master library file there on the internal HD. Then tell iTunes to use this new RAM disk copy of the library file.
any thoughts or advice appreciated!
I've already tuned off mac for more than 20 minutes to allow a full reset, then restarted 2 more times, then relaunched iTunes, also I've deleted and reinstalled itunes the application.
This is not a new problem, its been ongoing for years, as the library has grown.
I feel as though iTunes is not cut out to handle this large database, but I want it running as fast as possible, since I'm wedded to iTunes. It's running the whole-house music and ipod and iphone syncs etc.

System is VERY slow when changing apps or loading web sites
I am new to the forums so my questions may seem amatuerish.
My iMac is very slow when I click on links in Safari (esp facebook), and also when I switch from one app to another. I usually have 3-4 apps open when I am working. I only have 512 MG of memory, Can that be the major reason for things being so slow? or is there something else i should be doing?
Also, I cannot get my iMac to reboot using the install disc (Tiger 10.4.11) I have. Suggestions? I am really tired of watching the SBBBOD.Thanks to all 3 of you for the responses. In answer to some of your questions:
Of the 240 GB of HD, I still have 203.88 free. The build # is 8S2167.
We did install new memory cards this morning - removed the 512MB card and put in 2-1GB cards, which max's out this unit. Having just done that, I can't say yet whether it made a difference or not.
Here is the info from my Hardware screen:
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
Processor Speed: 2 GHz

I had already downloaded and run the Applejack app before I contacted you. It did not seem to fix anything.
I had another Safari crash last night. I'd like you to look over the report to see if there is anything there I should remove or fix? The report:

Keeping iTunes playing when changing user account
Hi,
I would like to setup a "music" account on our family iMac to select music from within iTunes and send it to our sound system. I'm tired of always having to reshelf CDs!
But for this to work, we need to be able to switch to our own account when we want to use the iMac while iTunes continue playing to the sound system. I did not find any option that may allow me to do this and right now it stops playing as soon as we switch to another account using "fast user switching".
We have Snow Leopard and iTunes 10.0.1.
My other option is to buy a second hand iPod to do this, but I hesitate buying one just for this when my iMac seems perfectly able to handle the task.
Thanks in advance,
DenisThank you very much Tom.
It seems AirTunes has been renamed AirPlay. It is not stated that it will keep playing even when I change user account, so I am glad you were able to provide this bit of information. Your suggestion to get an Airport Express appears to be the most realistic and cheap option. As for the AppleTV, it would have been more versatile (music to my sound system, video content to my TV via HDMI), except that my sound system is very old (but still works well) and has no optical audio in, which is the only audio output option for an AppleTV, if I understand well.
It would have been nice though to have the audio out of the mac connected into my sound system and just tell iTunes to keep playing music in the background even when changing user.

ITunes freezes when changing settings
Help
I'm trying to change some settings in playback- specifically the Sound Enhancer and Sound Check (or any setting for that matter) freezes iTunes. I get "AppleMobileDeviceHelper has stopped working" Solutions?
Thanks, ralesNo, I uninstalled Apple Mobile device support and had no problems with my iPod.
If you are worried you can always put it back by doing a repair install of iTunes. -
Can't change some "info" in itunes 7
Hi, Is anyone else facing this problem?
When I right click on a bunch of songs to change their Artists Names e.g. Mr Scruff to Mr. Scruff, after clicking OK, it runs the progress bar, but when done, nothing has changed in the browser and it still shows the exact same old name.
I've had this problem with changing album names too.
Thankshave you tried songs individually ?
if not see what happens with that and then if it works try multiple items again -
When first starting out with my iPod, while downloading the program coming with the iPod nano, the program asked me if I wanted to be able to change the name of some songs that were in my library while in iTunes. I answered no at the moment, but now I realized that I needed to, for most of the CD's that I load to the computer are burned, therefore they show up as "Track 1", and "Track 2". Usually, I would be able to change this, but, as stated above, I made it while loading the program that I can not. Is there any way that I can change this, or is it stuck with this problem for all of eternity?
Windows 2000Hi Pracilla,
Welcome to Apple Discussions
Sorry that no one has got back to you yet but this is Apple's User-to-User forums and some of us are busy with Xmas
Hope I can help.
If I understand you question your problem is that you have tracks in iTunes that are not correctly labelled and they are transferring across to your nano unlabelled?
If you are connected to the internet you might be able to select the CD and using the Advanced menu 'Get CD Track Names'.
I usually do this when I am importing the CD.
If you fix this then they will have track names on the nano.
Please post back if this works or if I haven't understood your question correctly.
Seasons Greetings,
Colin R. -
ITunes crashes when importing some CDs
I am running iTunes 6.0.3 on 10.4.4. This latest version of iTunes has improved my ability to import audio CDs, but I still often see crashes of iTunes when importing into MP3 at 160 kbps (I'd imported long ago at 128kbps).
I have tried all the things recommended in other threads: removing the CD Info.cidb file, removing the com.apple.kernelcaches folder and Extensions.kextcache file. I see similar problems when running iTunes as another user, and have repaired the disk using Disk Utility when booted from my Tiger Install DVD.
As a test, I've tried importing from a particularly obstreperous CD as AAC, and it imports fine. Other MP3 bitrates also crash iTunes.
Given that importing as AAC works, but MP3 doesn't, are there any suggestions on perhaps reinstalling whatever portions of the OS that handle MP3 encoding? I have installed LAME, but the library paths in the crash logs only point to real system libraries. I did an Archive and Install when I updated to Tiger (and that was after installing LAME).did u get this resolved? i have the same issues...

ITunes crashes when changing properties for Printer in Windows XP
I know this has similarly been posted already, but since the post I read had been ARCHIVED, I could not respond to it. (In my experience) Its not the fact that the properties button was pressed on the Print window of iTunes, but that an option in the properties dialog was pressed. Several options ARE available. I have a Dell Photo Printer 720 installed. The software included has several options for printing. The main page has 3 tabs: Quality/Copies, Paper Setup, Print Layout. All of the options work on all of the tabs. The problem comes in when you use the drop down menus from the top of the properties window. (of wich there is a save properties dialog) The drop down windows are basically Wizards to better help you complete your task, by asking you what you want to do. If you can refrain from using thoes drop downs, whatever changes you make to the rest of that window will be allowed. This is definutly something for the design team to look into, even if (for me that is) I can still alter printer properties, from what i understand most people can't access the properties at ALL! Side note, I also have an older HP DeskJet 722c installed on another computer with no problems accesing the properties window. Im sure it has something to do with the fancy drop down windows in the Dell version, as they STAY open until you click the close button.

ITunes freezing when clicking "Get Info"
My iTunes keeps freezing when I click on "Get Info", and it takes several minutes to open. Sometimes, it won't open at all, and I have to end the task in Task Manager.
I have Win7 and almost 200gb free. I noticed this about three weeks ago and have already upgraded to the latest version. Any ideas?Tried reinstalling, and I'm still having the same problem. It takes about a minute for the window to open after selecting "Get Info."

Computer is very slow when changing applications
I have a mac book pro 9,2, with intel corei5, 2.5 GHz., 1 processor, 2 cores, L2 cache (per core) 256KB, L3 Cache: 3MB, Memory 4GB, Boot Rom Version MBP91.00D3.BO8
System Software Version : OS X 10.9.5 (13F34)
Kernal Version: Darwin 13.4.0
Boot Volume: Macintosh HD
Boot Mode: Normal
Secure Virtual Memory: Enabled
Regarding the Macintosh Hard Drive:
Available space 208G.66GB , Capacity 499.25GB
Intel 7 Series Chipset, Link speed 6 Gigabit
Apple HDD Toshiba MK5065GSXF, Revision GV201B
Using Kodak ESP Printer 5200 Series AiO
Memory slots Bank0/DIMMO 2GB DDR3 1600MHZ and BANK 1/ DIMMO 2GB DDR3 1600MHz
The problem I am experiencing is a slowness of response between changing from various applications. What steps could I take to clean up the boot speeds, the applications speeds and general performance of the computer? I would like to restore the speeds of that when it was new.
Thank you for any suggestions you may have.Start with a simple step:

ITunes crashes when changing country
iTunes is getting worse. A lot of errors. iTunes 11.1.3. Just develop with care.
Regards,
decive,
germanyHmmmmm. That's not a common context in which to be getting that particular error message.
Plausibly, it might be associated with a problem with the iTunes preference files in your XP User account. (If they go skunky, sometimes they can produce that message in odd contexts.)
Let's try an experiment aimed at seeing if they might be involved in this.
head into your user accounts control panel and create a new user account with full administrative rights. (there's help documentation on how to do that at the left of the control panel screen.) while you're in that control panel, switch off "fast user switching" in your logging-on preferences.
now log out of the old account and log into the new account.
Launch iTunes. eventually, you'll see a blank library screen. (That's normal ... your usual library and settings are back in the other user account.)
Try a "change destination folder" and an "add to folder" in the iTunes in the new account. do you still get the crash?
(There's a different set of preference files in each XP user account ... so if the experiment goes through without a crash, that's consistent with a problem with pref files in the normal account.) -
ITunes Slow When Computer Connected To Network
Hi All,
I have never seen this before until now.
I have a user who has an iPhone and iTunes installed, PC decent spec, running Kaspersky AV.
When not connected to the network the iPhone syncs fine and iTunes flies!
When connected to the network iTunes takes approx 5 minutes to open, sync hangs or takes hours and never completes and navigating through iTunes takes an age.
I have disabled Kaspersky to see if that was the problem and it isnt.
I have switched off all settings in iTunes that could interect with the network and that has not corrected the issue.
If i unplug the network cable it starts to fly again!!
Anyone else seen this?Same deal here. I thought the problem was with my iPad or iPhone4, until I happened to try something when the computer (XP Pro SP3) was disconnected from my home network. Until then the iPad would not be recognized by iTunes, but I could see it in My Computer. This computer is also used at my office and is part of our Domain. I didn't seem to have this problem at work, so perhaps this has something to do with it. Unresolved for now.

IPad jerky and slow when changing applications
I tried the solution of double clicking home button, and closing recent applications, and then holding home button and off switch simultaneously, It fixes it until I open and close another application.
Are you using multitasking gestures? Swiping from one app to another, swiping up from the bottom to get to the task bar, pinching to return to the home screen? If you are using those - try shutting it off in your settings and see if that makes any difference.
Settings>General>Multitasking Gestures>Off. My iPad original version seems to have a little less lag if I don't use those gestures. Frankly, I couldn't wait until Apple released the feature for the original iPad - and now I personally feel that it was much ado about nothing - for me anyway. -
How to make changes to info in iTunes appear on my iPod Classic
What am I missing? In earlier versions of iTunes I could change the info on an imported CD, for instance, and when synced it would appear on my iPod. For instance, if the database doesn't supply a "composer" for an album I could put one in and then find that album by scrolling through composers on the iPod. Now (with a new 160gig Classic and the latest iTunes) the tags just don't seem to "take", although they continue to appear as changed on my iTunes screen. It seems to be a general problem with revising the tags but I choose this as a simple example. Is there some settings procedure I'm not following on either iTunes or the iPod? Or what?
Such changes should be mirrored to the device if you automatically sync the device. What happens if you make sure the *Sync only checked items* option is enabled, uncheck the tracks, sync, recheck them and sync again? Any better? If not the only other thing I can think of is that iTunes seems not to manage files with multiple tags terribly well. It may be possible to rebuild the tags as follows. Selecting some affected tracks, right/cmd click and use the option Convert id3 tags > None. Repeat once or twice. Once you have confirmed that no tags are present (look in Explorer/Finder) you can replace the tag information using Convert id3 tags > V2.3 (I believe it is recommended to avoid using V2.4). You will have to manually repair artwork if was embedded.
