ITunes slows down my computer?

I have a 2.2 Ghz processor and 4GB with only a browser and a few other programs installed. In iTunes I don't have genius or ping just music apps Store and a few playlists. Why is iTunes so slow for me. It lags terribly when i open up iTunes and I have trouble doing anything most of the time.

Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 n above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • Itunes slows down my computer with windows XP

When Itunes is on it uses almost 95pct of the UC making slowing down or even stopping all processes working at the moment. It is the new 6.0.1.3 version downloaded on c:\ drive and all my playlist is located on an externat hard drive. Any idea ?
    Thank you

Do you have a lot of temp files (each 15 Mo) created
by itunes on your "my music" folder on "my document"
on you c/ hard drive ? It appears in my case that my
computer is slow because for each song itunes created
theses files. I don't why and wait a reply (I post
    another topic on this subject).
Like I posted before, this is almost always the result of your virus scanner. Those temp files happen because you virus scanner grabs the files before iTunes is done with them. Stop your virus scanner from scanning that directory or those files and your problem will go away.

I have the latest version of Itunes and all updates for my Ipad 2, however anytime I connect my ipad 2 to my computer now it takes for ever to do anything until after a restart then everything is fine again, untill I go to connect to itunes again by usb. Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".

In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in

  • Ipod shuffle dose not show up in itunes and slow down my computer

hi i can see my ipod shuffle in my computer as removeable hard drive not my ipod name anymore and also i can't see my ipod in itunes at all and every time i connect my ipod shuffle it slow down my computer (very slow) and use my CPU 100% all the time my other usb hard drive(not ipod) works fine its only my ipod i also try to use all my usb port but its still the same thing.
and it can't be my windows because i have just reinstall windows 3 days ago
can someone help me fix this

I think I can add a bit to this problem.
My iPod stopped working during the first use after running the iPod Updater 2005-11-17. When a button is pressed both green & amber lights up.
When plugged into my computer, iTunes (vs 6.0.1.3) does not recognize it is there. Naturally, I tried to run the updater again (2005-11-17 version) and the program hangs. It does not use up the cpu though (~3%). Eventually, after ~5-10 min the updater recognizes there is an iPod and then the restore button can be pressed. However, soon after the updater gives the error "Firmware update failure. Disk write error"
I reinstalled iTunes and the iPod updater as well as tried to use the new updater (2006-01-10) and same error. I am in the process of checking the drivers now. But I still don't know what is causing this error...

  • Do I have go keep the music on iTunes once I have it on my iPhone as its slowing down my computer

Do I have go keep the music on iTunes once I have it on my iPhone as its slowing down my computer

    Realistically, yes.
If you delete the music from your iTunes, you will have to use Manually Manage for your phone in the future because a Sync will attempt to remove songs that you have removed from iTunes.
More importantly, if you ever need to Restore your phone, only media in your iTunes Library will be added to your phone. So if you delete the computer's Library, you will have lost all your music. There are several discussions in this forum from people who have done this and have now lost all their music.
There is no specific reason why the iTunes Library should slow down your computer. Are you sure it isn't something else that is causing the problem?

  • Itunes is slowing down my computer by writing ID3 tags

What are ID3 tags? Itunes seems to be slowing down my computer and is becoming very slow to respond to commands because it says that it's "writing ID3 tags". This just started yesterday. I've been using Itunes for a couple of months.

"hyjack".... a perfect word.... I can't operate any of my programs when it's writing these tags.
Mysteriously it stopped yesterday. There might be a correlation between me shutting my computer down - figuring it needed to reset. Yesterday Itunes was working perfectly.
So try the "old problem solver" ..shutting your computer down when you go to sleep.... a full rest....or shut it down for a full ten minutes. See if that works.

  • Is my 23,000 song library slowing down my computer?

    Hi guys,
I have 23,000 songs on an external hard drive, and I wondered if iTunes writing the library file every once in a while, or any other cause, could be considerably slowing down my computer, why, and what I can do about it.
    Thanks!
    Alec

    Alec:
As I understand it, unless you were playing all your songs at once, your 23000 songs take up disk space, but don't slow down your computer. When you are running iTunes, importing music, or burning to CD iTunes will take up CPU capacity. You can watch the activity monitor and see how much of CPU capacity it takes up. If you don't find your computer underperforming in any way, you are fine. If you do, the cause is very likely elsewhere.
    Good luck.

  • I just upgraded to Maverick on my2 year old Macbook Pro and it has slowed down the computer terribly.  All I see is that whirling circle every time I do anything.  How do I go back to old OS.  Terrible upgrade -- forces you to buy a new Mac!!!!

I just upgrade to Maverick on my 2 year old MacBook Pro and it has slowed down the computer terribly.  All I see every time I do anything is that crazy circle going round and round.  I don't recommend you upgrading.  How do I get rid of it.  I believe it forces you to buy a new macbook!!!!

It does not. First things first have you tried restarting?
    Try restting PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
Try booting up in Safe Mode

Also open "activity monitor" and look and see what is using a lot of processing power.

Hi Everyone.  I have an old Mac Book with software updated to 10.6.8.  I have saved a ton of emails in my inbox 'On My Mac'.  There are so many it is slowing down my computer.  Where do I find the folder with all the emails so I can cut and paste them to an external hard drive? Pls.help.  Tks.

Depending on which email client software you use
the files should be in 'your home folder' library, esp.
if you use Mail application.... ~/Library/Mail
Since you don't specify what mail application,
that would most be associated with the file.
I notice there are some items to the right of your post
where it says "more like this' so that may be worth a
look to see if similar issues were answered. Also, the
Help viewer in your system is a searchable database.
Seems that google also brings up fair information, too.
Do you have a complete bootable clone of your entire
Mac system on an externally enclosed hard disk drive?
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • My Mac book pro has the end of a earphone stuck to it. After this I updated to maverick, and this massively slowed down my computer. Now my laptop is switching on and logging in just fine, but after logging in the screen goes white. What can the reason be?

At first my laptop was fine after the earphone end got stuck in. Soon it started getting slower, and suddenly it stopped switching on. The people in the service station said that it wAs because the hard disk drive was corrupted. I came back home, and immediately it stopped working again. This time they said it was because of water spill. They changed the entire key board and then it started working for a while. Later I updated to maverick and that slowed down my computer. Once, I switched on my laptop, logged in, and then the screen went white. When we took it to the service center they said they will need to replace the hard disk. I am not sure what I should do. Any suggestions?

Liquid damage from water spill is progressive, unfortunately.
    Best.

  • Hello there! Does anybody know RadioWMPCoreGecko 5.dll. What is it and how can I remove it because it slows down my computer. Thank you.

Starting my computer this morning I immediately was informed by Norton Security that RadioWMPCoreGecko 5.dll is safe. I don´t know this data and I want to remove ist because it slows down my computer. Has that something to do with Firefox? The Information of Firefox-Troubleshooting shows the following detail:
    Gecko/20100101 Firefox/8.0.1
    Can you help me?
    Thank you in anticipation.

To whom it may concern here the answer I received today from Norton Support:
''I would like to inform you that the RadioWMPCoreGecko 5.dll files was downloaded as an update for the Firefox browser which runs in the background and Norton program does not have any control on the downloads till it is safe.
If the download is safe, Norton program will notify you and will block, if file finds to be suspicious.''
Now I know what it is, but nevertheless my PC is still rather slow.

  • I have an older mac w/LION 10.7.5 - if I upgrade to Mountain Lion 10.8, will it slow down my computer significantly?

I have an older IMAC - purchased in 2007. Works well. I have LION iOS 10.7.5 and want to upgrade to Mountain Lion 10.8. Will it slow down my computer? If so, how much?

Be sure you can upgrade your iMac:
    Upgrading to Yosemite
You can upgrade to Yosemite from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Yosemite can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Yosemite
To upgrade to Yosemite you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Yosemite from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Yosemite is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks/Yosemite - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Yosemite
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase a redemption code at the Online Apple Store: OS X Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. Use the code to redeem a download of Mountain Lion from the App Store. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

  • Compressor 4.1.2 slowing down my computer until it is unusable

    Hey all,
I'm using an iMac (specs below) and I have the latest versions of FCPX and Compressor (4.1.2). I've had a HUGE number of issues with the new Compressor update, specifically when it comes to 4K video. I'll take a project that is in 4K, OR that I shot in 4K and downscaled to 1080p by making the FCPX Project specs 1080p, then I "Send to Compressor."
Then I try to export from Compressor using default 1080p settings to my desktop.
Previous versions of Compressor would take their time  in giving me my final project, but would otherwise leave my computer unaffected. However, Compressor 4.1.2 is slowing down my computer to the point where it is unusable. Moving windows/folders around on the desktop takes forever to load. I can't browse the internet or do ANYTHING when Compressor is doing its thing now.
Interestingly, when I export using FCPX's "share" function, I have no problems.
Help! Is there anything I can do with Compressor to stop it from destroying my computer memory every time I export something in 1080p from 4K? Is anyone experiencing the same problems?
    Thanks!
    Specs:
iMac: 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7
    16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048MB

If you have system backups, you can probably restore to an earlier version. That would take care of your needs prospectively. Any libraries that had been updated, would;t open in an earlier version of FCP X. But of course, your master files could be used in both Final Cut and Compressor.
Also, send your results to Apple using the Provide Compressor Feedback link in the Compressor drop down menu.
