Itunes & song titles/artists

When I try to download new purchased music, itunes won't recognize the artist or song titles?
Is it just a setting?

Are you just getting Track 01, Track 02 etc. is your internet connection open when you are importing? For commercial CDs, you have to connect to the internet as iTunes picks up the track information from an online database. It will do this automatically if you are connected while you are importing or you can do it afterwards by connecting to the internet, highlighting the tracks and going to Advanced>Get CD Track names. See if this helps explain things a bit better than I have: How iTunes remembers Audio CDs

  • ITunes radio not displaying song titles, artists, or album artwork.

iTunes radio on my iphone 5 doesn't display the song title, artist name, or any album  artwork. It's just blank. Tried signing in and out of iTunes, turning phone on/off to no avail. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I have this same problem.  I also don't have any of the price info for the track.  This problem is on my iPhone 5s, iPad and iPad mini.
I tested out iTunes Radio on my wife's iPad and it works fine - album art, track names, album info, price and buying info.
The information in the "i" button is also blank on all my devices and not on my wife's iPad.
This is very frustrating because I can never know what the track is that I'm listening to and can't buy it if I like it.

  • Import files into iTunes song title is truncated

When importing files using the "File - Add File To Library" function for songs with very long title names, the song title is being truncated at about 35 characters upon import into Itunes. Is there a way to stop this from happening?

iTunes supports a maximum of 40 characters for file and folder names, inclusive of file extension for the files that it manages.
Tag properties such as Artist, Album, and Name are typically limited to 256 characters. Files in .wav format don't have a tag so it is usually these that cause difficulties when reimported to iTunes. The filename including any leading track number is used as the name of the imported track and all other fields are left blank. If iTunes was managing the track names in a previous library then the 40 character limits will apply reducing what can be read from the path and on reimport iTunes will typically move the files from their original location into the Unknown Artist\Unknown Album folder discarding more potentially useful information. If this is the issue, but you have the files somewhere in sensible artist and album folder with longer filenames, then turn off the options for Keep... and Copy... before adding to the library and use my script TagFromFilename to reconstruct missing information from the file path.
If the issue is simply how iTunes names the imported track when viewed in Windows Explorer, and it has the complete information in the iTunes interface, then you can use my script ConsolidateByMovingLong.

  • My iPod Touch Gen 4 Vers. 6.1.6 Won't Update Song Titles, Artists

    Product: iPod Touch 64gb
    Product Version: 6.1.6
    iTunes Version: 11.2.2.3
    - Should be latest version, but I can't find "About iTunes" so I took this version from my Control Panel
    Windows OS: Windows 8.1
I recently reformatted my iPod and have downloaded a bunch of songs. I have edited the song titles and artists within iTunes. I then synced my iPod Touch, but it kept the file titles for some reason. I've clicked "Get Info" on a file that I know that I changed the title on and it doesn't show anything bizarre. It says the proper title and artist as I had changed them.
I've deleted everything on my iPod already and tried to resync, but it keeps syncing the same titles. Nothing is greyed out from what I can see either. In the "What's on my iPod" tab (my iTunes is in French, so bare with the translation) it shows the correct names but on my iPod it does not show that name; it shows the file name.
Taking all that into account, how do I sync songs with the correct titles and artist namas as shown in iTunes?
    Thanks!

Oh, OK. Not too concerned that it'd warrant another restore, but I'll stick around to see if it gets fixed in a newer iTunes version maybe. I had looked here and on Google for answers but didn't see anything really specific to my model, and a lot of people aren't even able to sync at all, so lucky I can at least get songs on it!

  • Renaming song titles, artists

I have a bunch of burned CDs from years ago.  I am importing them into my itunes but now i have lots of Track 1, Track 2, ect. songs and no idea how to rename them..  Please help me

Once they're imported into iTunes, highlight them and click on File/Get Info/Info where you will see the fields that you want to change.
This is best done album by album, as you import them, so if you have already imported several, I assume you have several track 1s, track 2s etc. etc. and possibly one "unknown album". In which case, you will either have to play enough of each track to identify and rename it or, possibly delete them all and start again. (That'll be up to you to decide.)
If you have an album to import, then you can rename prior to importing, once again by highlighting and using File/Get Info/Info. To change the album title, artist or mark it as a Various Artists album, simply highlight the album name and use File/Get Info. If you rename prior to importing, then you may well see a prompt asking if you wish to submit the information to Gracenote. You can answer "No" to this, since Gracenote is lists albums that are widely available, not individual home burns.

  • Genius on 160GB Classic Plays Wrong Version of Song (Title & Artist Match)

I have noticed a problem with Genius right out of the box with my 160 classic. The problem still exists after the latest software update for the device.
If I select a song and start Genius it will sometimes play another version of that song instead of the selected one. For example I have a song by "Artist A" titled "Song A" on "Album A" it will sometimes play "Artist A", "Song A", from "Album B". I've narrowed it down to it always playing the one that comes from the first, alphabetically, album on which the track occurs. So if the song and artist match but there is a version of the song on "A Album", "B Album", and "C Album" it will always put the "A Album" version in the playlist and never use the "B Album" or "C Album" versions even when they are directly chosen.

Have you reported this problem directly to http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html ? It's possible that they are either unaware of it's existence or that it is the designed behaviour which could perhaps benefit from being clarified in online support.
Given, for example, the general (I presume intentional) inability of the iPod Classic firmware to discriminate between albums of the same title but different album artists, I would guess that the underlying logic for Genius may differ from what you or I might expect or assume at first glance. From your description it would seem that Genius is based on considering which artist/track name pairings fit together, ignoring the album information altogether in this context. As popular tracks are often released on many compilations and anthologies this would seem to have some merit. If Genuis thinks song Y fits well with song X it doesn't really matter which version of song Y it uses (assuming of course they are identical). With this in mind I would venture to suggest that EVERY track Genius selects is from the first album (alphabetcially) you possess that features the given song by the given artist. This aspect is only readily apparent if choose a different version as your initial song where you have multiple instances. If the songs are identical then I don't really see a problem, other than the mild surprise that what you pick isn't what you get, but if you have significantly different versions of the same title and prefer one over the other then I guess the workaround would be to rename the tracks in order to distinguish them. E.g. add the otherwise redundant \[Live\] tag onto the titles of tracks from a live album so these are not selected in error when you try to create a Genius mix based on the studio version of the same track.

  • ITunes Song Titles in Slideshow

I have iPhoto 5 and the most recent iTunes. When I create add music to a slideshow, I cannot see the individual songs, just the top level places like playlists. The workaround is to put the song in the playlist, but I should be able to see the songs, right?
There is a support article which says to "have iTunes running", but I tried that and it did not work.
Is this an incompatibility with my relatively old iPhoto and my newer iTunes?

    Keith,
There should be a drop-down menu in the window where you can toggle from "iTunes Playlists" to "iTunes Library." See the screenshots that lori refers to in this post: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3836266&#3836266

  • No I.D. for song titles, artists, album

Just bought a Nano and a new Sony Vaio Notebook. Ripped a new Neil Young CD into the IPOD software program. Songs came up in M4A format but neither the artist nor the album
are identified so I stopped without adding new songs since I would not be able to ID any of them. Music played fine but no way to tell what is what. Also, the software does not show an OPTIONS button in the lower right corner as described in the manual. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Nope there is no way to stop that. That is the iPod Nano operating system.

  • Song titles, artitist names, etc., do not show up on burned CD

Can someone please tell me why when I burn a playlist onto a CD the song information does not transfer? It doesn't have song titles, artist names, etc.
    Thanks!

Original CDs from the store do not have track titles either.
iTunes looks them up on the Gracenote CD Database.
Burn the CD and make sure the info is there.
Select the CD, then menu Advanced -> Submit CD track names.
Ont he next computer, use iTUnes (or whatever program) to look up CD track names and it should retrieve them.

  • IPod Video - Display Settings (Title, Artist, Album...)

I am trying to figure out if I can alter my IPod Video display settings. When a song is playing, it shows the album art with the song title, artist, and album adjacent. Is there a away to change this display so that it does not display the album while the song is currently playing?

Three issues here.  The pre-pending is useless when selecting songs to play, plus it.takes up much of the admittedly limited space in my on-screen menu.  Since it doesn't help me select a song to play, it simply prevents more relevant info from being displayed in that area.  However, there is a second area on the menu that is designed to list title, artist and album but those fields are blank - despite I-tunes inclusion of the info in the xferred files.
    JCP,
Regarding the tags, on an MP3 CD iTunes simply burns whatever is embedded in the MP3 file.  From your description, it sounds like the Onkyo is seeing the filenames but not the tags, which does seem strange.  You may want to try the question in an Onkyo forum.
If you don't need the pre-pended serial number, and don't care about the sequence, you can burn from iTunes as a data CD instead of an MP3 CD.

  • Why can't I edit song titles and stuff?

Has anyone had the problem with iTunes where you go to edit the song title/artist/album cover and when the window for it comes up another window comes up that says iTunes has stopped responding? It's been doing this for like the past month can someone please explain on how to fix it?

  • How do you display the now playing song title in miniplayer?

I can't seem to change my preferences such that I can see the song titlle of the current song playing in my miniplayer.

Song Title, artist and album is always shown on miniPlayer, unless you hover the mouse over it, or if it is selected (highlighted) rewind play or forward buttons. Try highlight Up Next or Serch button (if by pressing Tab or Shift+Tab you can higlight next or previous item, respectively).

  • Proper song title format

I have all my songs on my computer named in exactly the same way "artist - title"  When I load them on the media card in my Tour some of the songs are listed correctly in the "ALL SONGS" list with the album name taken from the folder name.  Others have both the artist and song name in the spot for the song title and (unknown) in the space for the artist.  The song title, artist, and album are shown correctly on the screen when the song is playing.  Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this.  Sometimes I like to just click somewhere in the "ALL SONGS" list and listen to whatever comes up.

    the Media application :
tries to fetch information in the ID3tags of the mp3 or the WMA file
displays the filename when there is no ID3tag
in your case, it seems that the person who ripped the song incorrectly filled the ID3tags.
solution: edit the ID3tags for those songs. This can be done easily using Winamp or Songbird or VLC.

  • Printing I Tunes CD Song-Title Listing

The ITunes Song-Title feature allows for three types of Song-Title lists being available for printing, namely...Song Listing....Album Listing  and CD Jewel Case.Since updating to the 11.0.0.63 version of ITunes I've been experiencing problems with the CD Jewel Case feature. It prints the  listing with the song titles one over each other, making them illegible. The other two features are printing properly so I assume it is not a Printer problem but more likely a  Program glitz.. I would appreciate any advise in solving this problem...Thanks

Good news! I received an iTunes update (11.0.1.12) from Apple today and the problem is fixed.

  • FOUR letter song titles?!?"ZMMH?

Sorry to x-post on 2 discussions but it is a "using" question caused by an "installation and upgrade"
Since my iTunes 5 upgrade disaster and finally getting iTunes 4.9 back on my now functioning computer, I notice that some of the songs I managed to rescue from some sort of internal filing oblivion now have their titles replaced by FOUR capital letters (and also no longer are associated with albums). What the heck does this mean???
for example "ZMMH" "UYFR" . They aren't abbreviations as far as I can tell and I know that these songs used to appear with their proper titles.
I really don't want to plug an iPod into itunes for fear that it will rename the songs in the iPod as well. Is this a permanent destruction of my iTunes song titles or will this get miraculously fixed if iTunes 5 ever gets released in a functioning way?
Thanks for any info / help

I've got an iPod Shuffle. If I surf to it in Windows Explorer (where it shows up as USB storage device), I can see that my .mp3 files are renamed with 4 letter names, but the ID3 tags are still intact. I think the 4 letter name may be some kind naming convention used by the iPod's file system?
Don't know if this anything to do with your problem but it might be related.
    Dan
