ITunes songs won't convert to AIFF...

I read through some of the posts, and found Hangtime's 'Never Fail' method for converting iTunes songs so that I can edit them in GarageBand. But after I tried to covert the selected file (which I purchased from iTunes), it said that it "could not be converted because protected files cannot be converted to other formats." What now? (I have GarageBand v 2.0, and iTunes v. 6.01)

Well, that's the purpose of copy protection: Your purchased iTunes songs come in a special flavor of the AAC format that has a sort of "digital rights management" (DRM) and can't be converted to other formats easily. They don't want you to turn them into MP3s and make them available on the Internet ...
However, iTunes' DRM is a sensible and weak one and allows you a broad range of personal uses of the files. One of them is burning an unlimited number of CDs from it. And guess what the format of CD audio files is? Right, they're AIFFs. So if you burn a CD with your song, you can drag it right from the disc into your timeline. Sort of material intensive, but it should work.

  • Can't update software, iTunes songs won't transfer

I have an older docked iPod (2nd gen, I think). It is running iPod software 2.2. I updated iTunes to the latest version and now my recently downloaded iTunes songs won't transfer to the iPod. I get an error message saying my iPod software is outdated. But I can't get the latest iPod update software to load. I've downloaded it twice now. When I go through the installation program, it shows me the possible destination volumes for the software -- either my iPod or my hard drive. The iPod has a red X next to it, with an error message saying the software can't be installed on a volume that doesn't have OS X 2.8 or higher on it (my Mac is running OS X 10.3.9). If I try to install the iPod software on the hard drive, everything is grayed out and says disabled. I don't know what to do next. How do I update the software so I can transfer my new playlists? Should I downgrade iTunes back to its previous version (if this is even possible?)? Help! Thanks!!

If they will play but will not convert, you probably have DRM "protected" files.  Were they purchased prior to mid-2009?
If so, and you don't want to burn, your choice is either to replace them, or to upgrade them by using Match.  For the latter option, see
iTunes Store: iTunes Plus Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
and look at the section on "Can I upgrade my previously purchased music to iTunes Plus?"

I have purchased a couple of albums from iTunes and when I sync with my iPod Touch 4G some of the songs don't sync, I receive an error sayting some of the songs cannot be converted?????

If you are in a country that allow redownoads, try deleting the songs and redownloading by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
The above lists what can be redownloaded in what countries.and says how to redownload.

I just downloaded an iTunes album and the first (2) songs won't play on my computer -- they skip to the 3rd song every time.

    Possibly a bad download?

Yes. Delete and redownload them if doing so is free in your country.

  • Existing iTunes songs won't transfer to my iPhone 5

Context:  iTunes 11.1.3 (8), iPhone 5 running iOS 7.0.4, Mac Mini running 10.9.1.
Some songs in my library purchased originally from iTunes won't transfer manually to my iPhone 5 manually.  I get an error message stating that the song's format is wrong.  These are songs that I've transferred to my iPhone(s) in the past without a problem.
The problem seems to be related to clicking and dragging a number of songs simultaneously.  Occasionally, one or more of the batch won't transfer successfully and yields the error message about the format being wrong.
If I click and drag each rejected song from my library to my iPhone, usually the song will transfer.  It may take one or two tries to make this happen successfully.
The rejected songs are in different formats (protected AAC, purchased AAC).  I haven't figured out a pattern for why some songs are not transferrable without special effort.
This is unique to the current version of iTunes and iOS 7.  I've never seen this happen before.
    Any ideas for a fix/workaround?

What computer OS are you using? Do you have the latest version of iTunes (v11.1)? There has got to be a reason for the disconnect in the music syncing. I would recommend resetting the sync history. If you are in Windows, go to Edit, Preferences, Devices, and there is a button there. Now, with the phone connected to iTunes and the phone selected in the Device pane, you go to the Summary page and down towards the bottom of the page, there is a Reset Warnings box. After doing that, try to sync music again. If there is a problem, with the warnings reset, it should show up if there is one.

  • ITunes songs won't play on iPhone 5

I've had my iPhone 5 for about a year now.  Never had this trouble before switching to this unit.  Never took the time to try and figure out the problem, as I knew it would be a long drawn out process over the phone, but this has been an issue since day 1.  I'm missing my music...and I'm ready to listen to my purchases again!!
My music is in my iTunes account on my computer...in the library.  However, on my iPhone, only a small percentage of the songs are available to be played.  All others are greyed out.
I searched the discussions here and saw a post that said that maybe I need to authorize my computer.  Did that, didn't change anything.  I restored the iPhone back to original settings and then back to my backup file.  Still not able to play songs.
I also downloaded the songs from the purchased downloads in iTunes, all this did was duplicate my songs, and allow me to play the 500 songs that I can play now.
HELP!!!!  I'm VERY frustrated that I have almost 2000 songs, and only about 500 that I can play.  I paid for this music ($0.99 for some, $1.29 for most, that's well over $2000 spent)...I should be able to listen to my music...ON MY PHONE!!!

Ok SIMPLEST and EASIEST thing to do- this WILL solve your issue:
    Go to Settings->General->Usage
Wait for it to populate all the things taking up space on your iPhone. Tap "Music" and then swipe your finger from left to right over the "music" bar. the red "Delete" button will appear. Tap it.
Wait about a minute then power off your phone.  Then power it back on.
Go to iTunes app on your device: then "More->Purchased->Music" you should be able to re-download ANY song bought.  If you don't re-download on Wi-Fi it will eat at your cellular data plan...be advised.

  • ITune songs won't play

I did the 6.0.4 update and now I have the same songs listed, but get an error that says, "Can't find the files"....help please?

I did the 6.0.4 update and now I have the same
    songs
listed, but get an error that says, "Can't find
    the
    files"....help please?
Just had a similar problem that I believed I solved
after a little fishing around with different options.
I located my music files (made sure they were backed
up, along with a copy of my library file just in
    case).
Then selected all songs in the library in Itunes and
    deleted them.
Then I used the 'add to library' command in the file
menu. With this option I selected the folder that
contained all my music (Itunes Music is where I keep
    them).
All the songs were added to the library just fine and
now work. This also preserved my play lists which
was a big concern. This went pretty quickly, but I
do recall carrying out this process on my old
computer and taking a little while.
    MacBookPro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)
I did the same things backward for a slightly different result.
I did not delete all the items in iTunes first.
I found the iTunes file with all the song files and dropped
that on the Library in the Source list.
The result was that I had all the songs listed twice.
I keep my listing sorted by Date Added. I found the first item added on the current date (somewhere in the middle of all the listings), went to the last item added on the current date, which would be the last item in the iTunes list, held down the shift key and clicked enter (selecting all the songs in between) and hit delete.
When the dialog boxed asked I hit Keep Files.
This got rid of all the duplicate listings which were added by dropping the iTunes file on the Library but corrected all the original items in the original order.
There were still a few songs I had to find one by one, but this ended up being the least painful method for me.

  • Up-to-date software but iTunes songs won't copy to nano

    Hi,
My Itunes and Ipod nano software are both the latest version, but I bought 2 songs from iTunes yesterday and I can't move them to my nano. I get the following message: "Some songs in the iTumes music library were not copied to the iPod because your iPod sofware is too old." However, as I mentioned, my iPod software is up-to-date. I downloaded the software updater, and when I ran it, the "update" option was not available because I already have the latest version.
Thanks for any advice! Happy Holidays

Connect in what way? Outside of iTunes you will not be able to use airplay (ie for mirroring) unless you use a 3rd party program like Airparrot.

  • ITunes songs won't play -- "original file can't be found."

    Hi,
When I click on any song, regardless of how I got it (CD, download from internet, etc.), it tells me that the song cannot be played because the original file cannot be found. It asks me whether I want to look up the file, and when I click yes, the Temp folder of iTunes opens. Any ideas? These songs used to play just fine.

Well, I tried that, and I was able to play the song (so thanks!), but if that's the only way I can play my songs it's going to be very cumbersome to listen to music -- I'll have to search through several folders and choose the song within that folder every single time I want a new song. That's not a feasible way for me to have my music, though. Do you know how I can just get iTunes to find the song automatically the way it used to?

  • TV Episodes are checked on Itunes, but won't convert to Ipod

I bought 9 episodes of "The Office" for my Ipod this summer. All of a sudden that past 3 months only the first episode will appear on my Ipod. I tried to uncheck and update then recheck and update and nothing. These episodes just will not go back on my Ipod.
I was told if I went to edit and clicked preferences to do auto update all videos then click get videos it would work. However when I did this I can't find auto update under preferences.
Is there anyway I can get these checked episodes actually back and working on my Ipod?
    Thanks for all the help!!!!

  • After iTunes 11.1.3 & Mavericks - Music Library won't convert

I upgraded to Mavericks and iTunes 11.1.3 and now my iTunes library won't convert to the new format. It runs for about an hour (5+K songs, MAC Mini) and then fails. It did it twice. My music is still intact and plays perfectly with VLC, etc. How do I get a fresh start on the iTunes library. It's located on an external USB drive if that makes any difference.

I would either try the iTunes forum or the Mavericks forum
