Itunes sound distortion

All my songs in Itunes when played have distorted sounds, audio clipping or freeze up and this happened all of sudden for no reason with ITunes 9.01 which was working for a few days perfectly until yesterday. I played itunes files in Quicktime with no problem and I been searching forums for help with this issue.
So far I tried updated sound drivers, directx drivers, I changed options on QT in control panel to 16 bit, even put it in wavsound safe mode from the default direct sound, turn off EQ in itunes adjusted preamp & turned off sound enhancer too. I have reinstalled Itunes 9.01 and tried a older version 8.2 with no luck there either. I even updated my windows vista to SP2 for the heck of it hoping it would fix the problem.
I have a sound blaster X-FI and I changed various options with sound card settings with no results. I know it is probably not my system or sound card: Current Specs 3.2 ghz intel processor, 3gig ram, sb blaster x-fi and so on. Also, played music with wmp player and dvds no clipping.
I dont know if this makes difference in identifying the problem, but the windows startup sound clips and distorts too for some reason. I hope someone has the magical solution to fix this issue short of reinstalling windows in hope of fixing the issue.

This worked.
Can Apple / Itunes not just do an upgrade to fix this as I think every one should have the same problem?

  • Itunes sound distorted when loading webpages

    Hi,
I recently got a new laptop (like a week ago) and installed iTunes 9. This worked fine at first, but starting yesterday the sound gets distorted half the time I load webpages or open applications.
I've had this before on older computers, and assumed it was because of their limited technical capabilities. I don't think that's the case here, though.
Does anyone have any idea where the problem could be situated? Or might it be technical after all?
    Thanks in advance!
    Greetings,
    Steven

Sounds like your audio midi settings are not being stored properly.
I'd try deleting com.apple.audio.AudioMIDISetup.plist and resetting
    audio midi.
As you know, iTunes only reads the audio midi settings when it starts
up, so I'd do that with itunes not running.

  • Adjusting iTunes Sound = Distorted Audio

    Hello,
I have been having a problem with adjusting the sound on iTunes ever since I downloaded iTunes 7. When I have the volume set at full on the iTunes volume indicator, the sound is perfectly normal. However, when I lower the bar at all, the sound immediately becomes distorted and is painfull to listen to. Does anyone else have this problem? Can anyone help me?

  • ITunes sound distorted

Recently when I use iTunes to play files in my iTunes folder (the files are mainly MPEG4s ripped and encoded using iTunes) the sound is extremely distorted (it used to be fine). I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes but it is still the same. The files play fine with Real Player but I want to use iTunes. Also I don't want to sync my iPod in case the sound on that becomes distorted too (which means I can't load any new songs to my iPod) and some of the files are ones I have bought from the Apple shop and they dont play in Real Player.
    ... Help please!!

Thank you very much, it looks like that has solved the problem I am just checking that everything is working fine then I can click that 'solved' button!
Can you explain what is the difference between Quicktime in safemode and not? most of my music files are unprotected so I wonder why they played with (a lot of) distortion before I did what you said.

  • ITunes 11.1.4 movie sound distorted on windows 8.1

iTunes 11.1.4 movie sound distorted on windows 8.1, Songs play ok .  I have tried all sorts turning off Sound Enhancements etc ...

Uninstall your existing copy of iTunes. Delete any copies of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer files from your downloads areas for your web browsers and download a fresh copy of the iTunes installer from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
(The current build of the 11.1.4.62 installer was changed a few days ago, which fixed the bulk of the reports of MSVCR80.dll/R6034/APSDaemon.exe/Error-7/AMDS-could-not-start trouble ... but the build number on the installer was not changed. So we're trying to make sure you do the reinstall using a "new good" 11.1.4.62 installer instead of an "old bad".)
Does the install with the new copy of the installer go through properly? If so, does that clear up the error message?
If you still have the same error messages cropping up, then try the procedures from the following user tip:

  • Sound distortion in iTunes and not in other players

    Hello,
I've been experiencing some terrible sound distortion with iTunes that I don't have with any other player (WM player for instance).
I installed version 6 and this doesn't fix any issue.
This doesn't cause any problem when transferring files to iPod but still, have to be fixed!
Has anyone a clue or already fixed this in windows XP?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I have same problem with my iTunes 6.
You can try this(Helps for me):
    1. From the Start menu, select Settings and open the Control Panel
    2. Double-click the Multimedia or Sound, Speech & Audio devices icon,
    3. Select Sound and Audio Devices, click the Advanced Audio button
    4. Select the Advanced tab then
    5. Select the Performance tab and find the Hardware Acceleration slider control
hardware acceleration should be set at full.
sample rate conversion quality should be set at best.

  • Output sound distortion when USB Mic Connected

    Hi everyone,
Really appreciate anyone’s help on this sound distortion problem.
I have been using the new 2014 iMac 27' for last 8 Months, bought Brand New, and recently updated to Yosemite. Everything worked fine including recording, until this update.
I'm using Blue Yeti USB Mic for recording, and few days after the update I was trying to record in GarageBand and the output sound (via headphone connected to USB MIc) started to distort and then suddenly dropped the bitrate/ sound and I could only hear some clicks. I reinstalled the GargeBand, still its the same distortion happens. The sound gets back to normal, only for few seconds, after I unplug the USB cable from the Mic device. And I tried changing the bit rate and again sounds starts to drop after few sec. This happens only when I connect the Blue Yeti USB Mic and sound output from the Mic itself. Same thing happens with iTunes as well. Output sound from Internal mic and speakers are working fine as normal.
I tried connecting the USB Mic to my Windows laptop and its working fine with the Cubase 5 without any problem. So the problem is with the output sound, when external Mic connected.
I don’t know the solution for this. Have checked on every single blog/ thread, sill couldn’t find the answer I’m looking for, to fix this.
It would be great if you have any kind of a solution for the same.

Nope. The larger buffer didn't work. What did work was running a cord out of the 1/4-inch jack from the direct box to a 1/4-to-1/8-inch adapter and then into the mic/line-in jack on my computer. I set GarageBand to use the built-in line-in and had no static problems. It's a stopgap until this gets fixed.

  • Sound Distortion AP 11 and 12.

I'm experiencing sound distortion and weak signal after AP upgraded to 11. I downloaded 12 and I still have the problem. Windows 7.

    AP?  You mean Flash Player?
12 is a beta, so it's not a good idea to use that to remedy playback problems as it's a test product.
Are you experiencing audio issues elsewhere? Windows Media Player, iTunes, Quick Time or VLC for instance?

  • Sound distortion in most recent episode of Lost

    Hi all,
the most recent episode of Lost plays on my Apple TV with really bad sound distortion starting from 4.23 and continuing to the end.
I have a series pass so the episode downloaded onto my Apple TV. The file that has synched with my Mac plays fine in iTunes. I've changed the sync options to remove that ep of Lost from the appletv and then synched back, but it still does it. The episode is Lost s6 e6 'Sundown'. Has anyone else had this issue? I don't want to watch it on my laptop, I really need it to work on the Apple TV!
    Thanks
    Caspar

Not the best solution, but at least you'll be able to watch this episode on the Apple TV.
    Either:
Switch Dolby Digital Out to Off in Apple TV's setting. The episode will then play the Stereo AAC track instead (which is fine, btw). Problem is, you'll have to switch Dolby Digital Out back on if you want surround sound back for other content.
    Or:
    Download an App called Subler.
Open the HD Episode of Lost in Subler.
You'll see that subler lists the video track and two audio tracks. The Digital surround track is not ticked, but this normal and is not the cause of the 'static problem'
Select the surround track and click the delete button.
Save the file and re-sync to Apple TV.
It will now play in stereo.

  • Sound distortion issue when uploading iMovie

Each time I try to 'Share' a movie I created the sound distorts once it's uploaded.  It's driving me crazy!  I've read other posts re this problem but no resolutions given.  The sound just ends up a bit fuzzy - it's fine until it's uploaded to file or iTunes etc.  Does anyone else know what the problem may be?

Solved it by downloading win 8 drivers for audio from sony support... followed condor's suggestion http://community.sony.com/t5/VAIO-Windows-10/LAPTOP-VAIO-SVT15112CSX-audio-drivers-that-work-with-windows-10/m-p/516334#U516334

  • HELP! Why is the music sounding distorted

Hi there, so i put on all music on the ipod, and two days later it is sounding all distorted and garbled, do i have to take it all off and start again? This ipod nano sure has its imperfections...thanx

    The equalizer might be on.
On the nano, even if the equalizer is set to off in the iPod settings, the equalizer setting in iTunes is used. If you have a track in iTunes with a custom EQ set to, say, "rock" the iPod will use rock. It may sound fine though the computer speakers but not so good though the earbuds.
Not all iPods are consistent about how they use the per track EQ settings from iTunes. On a 5G iPod, for example, setting the EQ on the iPod to off means it plays everything flat.
You could try setting the EQ on the iPod nano to "flat" while the song in question is playing. If that clears it up you should set that song to use a flat EQ in iTunes. Then it will always play like that on the nano.
Most modern music doesn't need equalization and adding it usually makes music sound distorted and garbled.

  • Music sounds distorted

Ok, so someone stole my 30gb video ipod. I was able to get a 60gb video ipod from a friend. I plugged the 60 gb into my itunes that i was using for my old ipod and transferred all of my songs onto the 60gb. However, now when I play songs on my 60gb the songs sound distorted but they weren't that way on the 30gb....
So, is it a problem with my itunes (trying to load too much at one time), or is it a problem with my computer (computer too slow to handle all that activity at once) or is it a problem with the ipod itself?

Sometimes iTunes won't be able to handle a lot of music (50 or more) so try not to transfer big hunks of music. Also check to make sure the EQ isnt on like Bass Booster of something, set it to like off or flat. This is not a problem with your computer. If that doesn't work, it could be a problem with your headphones. Sorry to hear that happened to you.

  • IMac Sound Distortion

I just got an iMac Quad Core i5 and i must say I'm fairly disappointed. The audio is distorted terribly, first I thought it might be just the hardware, but I also have an M-Audio Profire 2626 which works splendidly on my IBM compatible notebook. I have since downgraded from Lion back to 10.6.8, both version have the same issues.
Symptoms (on internal and external interfaces):
Hard Left & Hard Right balance, 75% volume -> exceedingly audible distortion.
    Centered balance -> audible distortion.
Does anyone know if this is an OSX issue, or could it be hardware based?
I am going to bootcamp install Windows 7 now...

Just to update some of my findings (incase it might help others):
What Apple doesn't care to mention is that the volumes can be driven far beyond clipping, what I did was, I played the same track through my M-Audio Profire 2626 and it appears that iTunes was overloading the input, it was clipping all the way, I brought iTunes down a couple of notches, panned hard left & right, and it worked fine. I switched back to the internal audio, did the same with iTunes & the master volume, and voila it worked! I have since concluded that iTunes & other audio apps were overloading the hardware creating the sound distortion.

  • Songs sound distorted

I have a 4gb Ipod mini. Over this past week, I have noticed that when I had a single song or a playlist that consisted of about 20 songs on repeat for a long period of time (usually overnight while I sleep), the songs end up sounding distorted. When I connect my Ipod to my computer charger, the songs that were distorted are also distorted on Itunes. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?

I'll add another voice to the chorus.  Windows XP, SP3, somewhat older ship set in the box.  Same problem.
10.4 was running fine then when I upgraded to 10.5 it sounds tinny and squeaky.  For those into radio, it sounds like a slightly off frequency station on sideband.  Some of my music sounds like R2D2.  All of my other playes such as WMP, VLC, and others work fine so it is not my sound card.  It sounds like a codec or speed issue or both. Also it is not just the songs resident on my hard drive.  When I tried some of the streaming radio channels the sound was the same - broken - so this is serious.
I ran the repair utility from the program installer to no avail.  I also did a complete uninstall and deleted all of the bits and pieces elsewhere on the hard drive and cleaned the registry to try a fresh install but got the same results.
I then cleaned the system again and went back to 10.4 and all is working fine for me.  However my house cleaning did remove some preferences and a few other things within settings but I wanted to make sure that I had a clean start.  The sacrifice is liveable.
Clearly there is a problem and as noted elsewhere in this forum, other people are starting to speak up to reflect the same issue.
I pitty the person who is not adept at downgrading and just blindly accepts upgrades when offered.
Steve... send help from where ever you are.
Unknown if this will be of concern... I also upgraded Safari to the latest at about the same time.  That should not have an impact but one never knows.  Safari seems to be running OK.
