ITunes sound enhancing

Is there any third party program that could enhance iTunes' playback quality? I've tried the sound enhancer under preferences but I'd like something even better that can really give the sound some extra oomph...

Have you muted sound in iTunes?

  • Does Itunes sound enhancer affect Ipod sound?

I just purchased a Ipod video. And I think the sound quality has too much of a 'surround' sound. My EQ is off. Will adjusting the sound enhancer in itunes help minimize the 'surround' sound on my Ipod?

    No, it's for iTunes only.

  • Itunes 'Sound Enhancer' questions.

Will turning this option off revert the sound to exactly as it was before or does Sound Enhancer permanently alter/change the file itself, even in the slightest most miniscule way?

Sound Enhancer does not modify the .mp3 or .wav file or any other file for that matter. If you are talking about the one in the playback preference pannel, it only modifies playback sound which can be compared to an equalizer. The exact impact of the output sound is still unclear (how they get the sound that comes out I mean) but the file is 100% unchanged and unchecking the box will bring back playback to normal. Think of it as an equalizer but with better functions and better effects. Like I said, people still don't seem to know what effects the Enhancer modifies on output.
Feel free to try it its 100% reversible.

  • ITunes Sounds Like Cr*p All Of A Sudden - HELP!

This afternoon I was enjoying the rockin' tracks on my iTunes as always. All of a sudden the sound dropped down in the middle of a song, not just volume, but bass, tone, presence (you know...sounds like all of a sudden you're listening through a paper towel roll). I checked my speaker connnections, rebooted my computer and iTunes and nothing changed - still sounded lousy. Kindly note, I have Harman Kardon Sound Sticks and Bass and the sound has always been top-flight!
I ventured onto the net and visited several sites w/ audio (BBC Radio, Wolfgang's Vault, YouTube, Apple Movie Trailers) and everything sounded just fine. Went back to iTunes - garbage!
Then I went into a bunch of iTunes radio stations and they all sounded fine as well. Also, the "Sound Effects" alert noises on my iMac are normal. Seems my iTunes playlist is the only thing affected. I checked and unchecked the "sound enhancer" box in preferences and nothing changed.
Can anybody offer help? I work out of my home office and will kill myself it I can't enjoy my music (yes, the work is that boring!).
    Thanks!

The uninstall, reinstall, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, reformat, is valid problem solving advice for a PC but is seldom the best first approach for a Mac. Note this message is in the Using iTunes for Mac section.

  • I can't find how to apply sound enhancements (EQ) for the podcasts now with iOS 6.0 update

    Dears at Apple:
I can't find how to apply sound enhancements (EQ) for the podcasts now with iOS 6.0 update on any of my devices(iPhone 4s, iPhone Touch (4th Gen), iPad (3rd Gen). Most of the "Podcasts" I listen to are music content based and wanted to apply sound enhancements(EQ) like before when integrated with ipod function. Can you consider to "fix" this issue?
    Many Thanks!

OK Emanuel I found a solution! I dowloaded and installed "Denon Audio" app from the iTunes store & it works great! It has an EQ you can set curves on manually or use the (few) built in pre-sets. It is a player like the Music app that comes with the iPhone, etc. but restores the EQ functionality so we can adjust the audio of PODCASTS:-) Until Apple fixes this what I consider a bug I will be using the Denon app as my default music player!

  • Itunes sound distortion

All my songs in Itunes when played have distorted sounds, audio clipping or freeze up and this happened all of sudden for no reason with ITunes 9.01 which was working for a few days perfectly until yesterday. I played itunes files in Quicktime with no problem and I been searching forums for help with this issue.
So far I tried updated sound drivers, directx drivers, I changed options on QT in control panel to 16 bit, even put it in wavsound safe mode from the default direct sound, turn off EQ in itunes adjusted preamp & turned off sound enhancer too. I have reinstalled Itunes 9.01 and tried a older version 8.2 with no luck there either. I even updated my windows vista to SP2 for the heck of it hoping it would fix the problem.
I have a sound blaster X-FI and I changed various options with sound card settings with no results. I know it is probably not my system or sound card: Current Specs 3.2 ghz intel processor, 3gig ram, sb blaster x-fi and so on. Also, played music with wmp player and dvds no clipping.
I dont know if this makes difference in identifying the problem, but the windows startup sound clips and distorts too for some reason. I hope someone has the magical solution to fix this issue short of reinstalling windows in hope of fixing the issue.

    This worked.
Can Apple / Itunes not just do an upgrade to fix this as I think every one should have the same problem?

  • IPod/iTunes Sound Volume problems

I listen to my iPod Mini on my car radio, and used to enjoy turning the music up loud sometimes. Now I cannot GET it loud, even though I have the volume on my radio and iPod set to the maximum. For audiobooks, I can no longer hear the words clearly over the sounds of traffic. The volume on the iPod used to match the volume of the radio. Now it doesn't -- if I should flip to the radio without lowering the volume, I get hit with a blast of sound.
I think I might have done something in iTunes that is causing this. I cut off Sound Check and the equalizer. I also raised the volume using the Get Info options. It doesn't seem to have made any difference for the iPod when I updated. I still can't hear it very well through my tape adapter on the car radio.
Have I done anything mentioned above to cause or fix this problem? If so, do I need to delete everything from the iPod and re-load it?

    Gary,
There is a lot I don't know yet, but I definitely managed to raise the volume by cutting off the sound check and the equalizer when importing new stuff. As a test, I can now hear the words in an audiobook, although the volume is still on maximum for my iPod and car tape player. Unfortunately the old stuff still sounds too faint. (Is this iPod actually updating?)
There is a problem with my car tape player. I haven't bought a head cleaning kit yet, but plan to do so. I connected an FM transmitter and tested the sound -- it was a lot louder. (In my area, I cannot use an FM transmitter in the city because of FM interference. No empty stations. So I either need earphones or to make the tape player work. Or a new car
I don't know yet whether it's the Sound Check or Equalizer that makes the difference. I don't think I ever used Sound Enhancer.
You can raise the volume by selecting songs, going to "Get Info" and resetting the volume bar. This seems to make it louder on the Mac speakers. I cannot tell that anything is getting through to the iPod -- I simply don't hear it yet.
I don't know yet if importing when using Sound Check does anything permanent to the volume of the song. I hope not.

  • Reset iTunes sound quality

After I installed Bose Companion 5, the sound quality of iTunes, and iTunes only, has gotten much worse. The tremble sounds too sharp and the voice is much lower and dirty. Messing with EQ doesn't help. Is there a file or files that I can replace to reset the sound quality to the way it was?

I dunno if this will help, but I've been dealing with a fuzzy sound the same as you described... After putting up with it for a few weeks and occasionally trying to fix it, I finally decided to fix the problem once and for all. I went into "edit" then "preferences" then the "playback" tab, and if they aren't already off, turn off the crossfade playback, sound enhancer (this one made the biggest difference for me) and sound check. Sorry If this doesn't do anything for you.

  • Itunes sound randomly dissapears (windows)

Hi, After checking everywhere, I haven't been able to find a solution for this.
When using iTunes 11 with Airplay (even if playing to multiple speakers, ie. to my computer and Airplay speakers), the sound "randomly" dissapears (Windows)
    Description of the issue:
    1.  Using iTunes 11 with Airplay (even if playing to multiple speakers, ie. to my computer + Airplay speakers).
    2.  When itunes finishes a song, RANDOMLY, as it should start playing the next one,
2.1   The next song's is not played ... (sound dissapears from all the speakers, including my computer speakers)
2.1.   In the screen guider the songs keeps "playing"
    3.  If I press the "PAUSE" button in iTunes and after a few seconds press "PLAY", the song restarts playing ... INCLUDING SOUND !
    4.   This issue ONLY HAPPENS when using Airplay (if only using my computer speakers, it doesn't happen).
    HELP!!!!!!!
(I have tried everything: Updating sound drivers, reinstalling Quicktime and iTunes, deactivating sound enhancements in Windows and itunes, deactivating ipv6 in my network card - which fixed Airplay, ...)

Why does my sound keep cutting out ?????
If you purchase a track and find it is defective, the music retailer will give you a replacement or refund. They are unlikely however, to just reimburse you for all your past purchases.
If one online music download store is not meeting your needs, try another. There are many. Ditto for players and programs.

  • Sound Enhancer

I'm wondering, if they had put Sound Enhancer in iTunes, couldn't the same be implemented into the iPod software? It's really difficult to adapt now, because I've been listening all my songs with Sound Enhancer turned on for almost one year. Now that I bought an iPod the sound is very flat (equalizer doesn't help much, it only increases certain frequencies, bigger bass and cleaner treble, etc.) and I really hoped that such feature would be available, but it seems that Apple didn't concentrate more on sound quality (more work has been done on it's design and capacity). Overall, sound is ok, headphones are fine (could've been better, but I won't grieve), it's just that I miss those "hidden" sound effects that are not heard (hidden in the background) when Sound Enhancer is off.
Well, I just wanted to add some comments concerning the sound quality on the new iPod (the first I ever bought) since I expected a little bit more. Hopefully Sound Enhancer (or maybe some newer "virtual surround" feature) will be built in new iPod's in the future so I (and those that feel the same) can experience our music the way it was ment to be heard.

  • What is Crossfade Playback&Sound Enhancer &should equalizer be on or off?

What exactly do both of these do? I still have mine I think on the default settings though I have turned off the Crosfade playback a few times while importing cds. Also seen the equalizer on iTunes is on with it on flat and wondering if should turn it off on iTunes because I keep the equalizer off my Ipod most off the time .Thank-You

Crossfade Playback overlaps the currently playing track with the next track. The time setting indicates how long an overlap you get at the end of the currently playing track. It basically fades the currently playing track out, and fades the next track in. This setting has no effect on importing CDs.
Sound Enhancer makes changes to the sound during playback to make the sound 'better' for small or low powered speakers that you get with computers or laptops.
The equalizer on iTunes also affects playback in iTunes only, not your iPod. Your iPod equalizer applies to all tunes played back on your iPod only. But if you have assigned a specific Equalizer Preset to a song in iTunes, your iPod will play according to that setting if your iPod Equalizer is set to Off.

  • What is Sound Enhancer?

What is it? I'm a bit of an audiophile, and I prefer hearing music as it was on the CD (as the artist intended). I've played with Sound Enhancer and there's a diffirence (I can't say if it's good or bad), but what does it do? Is this some kind of equalizer setting, volume changer, or what? I'm not comfortable with a setting that claims to magically making things sound "better".

iTunes "enhances" the sound of your audio files by increasing the treble and bass response, depending on how you set the slider. Think of it kind of like the "Loudness" button found on an old home stereo system, but adjustable. If you move the slider toward the "high" end, iTunes boosts more of the equalization, meaning things will generally sound punchier and crisper. If you move it towards the "low" end, iTunes will decrease the same frequencies.

  • "Sound Enhancer"  What is it?

What is it and how much better when set to High? Default is mid. Is it new to iTunes 8?

"Apple says it is similar to a loudness control:
"If you select the "Sound Enhancer" checkbox, iTunes "enhances" the sound of your audio files by increasing the treble and bass response, depending on how you set the slider. Others claim that there's more to it than that:
    [en.wikipedia.org]
"iTunes includes sound processing features, namely an equalizing section, and its "sound enhancer", which in some languages is translated into "sound improver". The enhancer works by inserting out-of-phase components of the signal into the opposite stereo channel, a technique often used on elements in music production."
    (blueintheface):
"What iTunes does in this respect is the same as the 'Wide' button found on ghetto blasters in days of yore - some high frequencies from each channel are phase-inverted and fed to the opposite channel. This makes the stereo-width apparently greater - but comes at the expense of any real definition of placement. It might be instantly appealing in its queasy-making phasey-ness, but in reality the whole stereo image is smeared. It's an effect that destroys any spatial naturalism to any recording, and so wouldn't be suitable for use on any 'realistic' recordings say of an orchestra or a jazz band. I'm not saying it doesn't have its place - because someone will probably have a hit with the most artifically widend track next week - just to be aware of what you're doing, and sometimes what is instantly appealing ends up ultimately fatiguing. "
Some say it is a close relative of Arboretum's Realizer that combines:
"Bass Maximizer * The same effect found in Hyperprism offers an incredible assortment of bass enhancement and maximization effects, ranging from subtle bass enhancement to extreme bass generation. Increase the perceived amount of bass, even on low end systems with poor bass frequency response, by harmonics which fool the brain into hearing lower frequencies.
"Harmonic Exciter * Have you ever had an audio track that sounded dull and boring, which no amount of EQ could fix? Instead of simply boosting frequencies already present, as occurs withEQ, the Harmonic Exciter generates new high frequency harmonics, thereby extending the bandwidth and increasing the liveliness of the original audio.
"Stereo Enhancement * Expands the stereo spectrum.""
