Itunes Sound Quality

I don't know what';s going on with my audio, I have no conflicts with any of my sound drivers, I just got some Bose desktop speakers that were working fine. My sound card is fine too. I haven't messed with any settings or anything but I just can;t hear the vocalas on any track like you shold be able to hear them. A lot of echos on pretty much all vocals, instruments sound great but I have no idea what else to do. I'd appreciate any help.

good gracious. i understand that that "no vocals" effect can be caused by a loose jack connection (of all things).
it may be worth just quickly making sure that all the connections are nice and snug.
keep us posted.

  • Muffled and flat iTunes sound quality

While listening to iTunes, the sound quality I'm getting is muffled and flat. I launced Audacity (recording/sound editing program) and all of a sudden my sound quality in iTunes ate it. I reinstalled my entire system software and it began working again...that is until I launced Audacity again. I've deleted all of the files associated with Audacity and recreated the iTunes preference, but nothing is working. Any suggestions? I see that a lot of people are having this issue but there's no real solution that I could find.

I have noticed for a long time that recordings sound much better outside of iTunes. Better even in the Finder when using the Preview in an Info or Regular Window.
In a major mistake, I just accidentally updated to 7.0.2 from 6.0.4 and the first thing that I noticed was more of a quality difference between iTunes 7.0.2 and the Finder. Not so much, but some, from 6.0.4. That was why I stayed with it.
It doesn't make any sense to me. You would think that with the intensity that they put behind iTunes, that it would be perfect. Or at least not so easy to compare with something as simple as the Finder.

  • Reset iTunes sound quality

After I installed Bose Companion 5, the sound quality of iTunes, and iTunes only, has gotten much worse. The tremble sounds too sharp and the voice is much lower and dirty. Messing with EQ doesn't help. Is there a file or files that I can replace to reset the sound quality to the way it was?

I dunno if this will help, but I've been dealing with a fuzzy sound the same as you described... After putting up with it for a few weeks and occasionally trying to fix it, I finally decided to fix the problem once and for all. I went into "edit" then "preferences" then the "playback" tab, and if they aren't already off, turn off the crossfade playback, sound enhancer (this one made the biggest difference for me) and sound check. Sorry If this doesn't do anything for you.

  • Itune sound quality same as quick time??

I I'm a producer and I use to down mix with logic pro and I listen to my track in quick time.
For sure I know that the pan law in itune is not 100% hard pan able. ( 20% of the left side goes into right and the other way around) cause of the ipod headphone use in itune.
But can you tell me if itune do not exagerate the stereo FX to please the listener...
    thanks
    ciao

depending on your settings in iTunes it might sound different. the "quality" should be the same, but there might be different effects/eq applied. sorry i'm not much help with specifics here, but try digging around in the iTunes EQ settings, and the preferences to see if there's anything "unnatural" happening to the audio.

  • Why is the sound quality and volume in itunes so different than when I use other media players

This is an issue which has been vexing me for some time. I've researched it all over the web and have not found a worthwhile answer. Some other posts on these forums have asked similar questions without successful answers. But, none the less, I will try...
I have spent a lot of time over the last two years trying to get my itunes library organized as well as getting good digitized versions from my vinyl records as well as CDs. I was pleased with my results and then I added the songs to itunes. I could not believe how inconsistent the sound quality was. Invariably the volume is always lower. [Please do not post a reply such as: Check the volume controls in itunes proper as well as in itunes preferences (i.e., Sound Check, Sound Enhancer) & the Volume Adjustment in the Information pane under Options for particular songs.] I tried all of those means of adjusting volume. They do NOT work.
There is something more insidious at work in itunes which prevent good sound reproduction. I will give an example. I have played Frankie Valle and the Four Season's song "C'Mon Marianne" on the OS X system sound (i.e. clicking the play button to the song file when selected on the desktop or wherever it resides) as well as in Amadeus Pro. The song sounds great. When I play it when it's in the itunes' library the first part of the song is too lound and then when Frankie Valle starts singing his voice is at a significantly reduced volume.
I have edited the foregoing song in Amadeus Pro to a very high volume (i.e., Effects>Amplify), reloaded it into itunes and it still does not inprove the volume of Frankie's voice in the song, even though the rest of the song is somewhat louder. I have played with the Equalizer in itunes to no effect. It just does not work.
Now, I would glading move away from itunes and use another media player. However, I have other Apple devices through which I listen to music. And the only way I know of to listen,e.g., on the iphone is through itunes.
The other related problem with itune, or should I say iCloud, is icloud match. The icloud Match has taken great sounding music and given me back music of an inferior quality, even though it is a Matched AAC format.
I'm am sorry if I am a little peeved about this issue. If anyone has some suggestions or input to a solution, I will be eternally grateful. Thanks a bunch.

    fbuerg,
You are welcome. Glad my good fortune was helpful to you.

  • Help me on choosing the best sound quality for my music on my itunes!!!

I heard that AIFF Encoder is the best sound quality you can import your music into Itunes. On the settings for AIFF Encoder do you know what Sample Rate, Sample Size, and what Channel I should set it to? Should I just leave them on Auto? How about if I have a HDCD? What are your suggestions?

I agree use Apple Lossless. Bizarrely it is also easier to share Apple Lossless with Windows Media Player than AIFF.
I have my entire iTunes library in Apple Lossless and shared with WMP and also Media Center 2005. I can also use it in full lossless quality with Roku SoundBridge, Apple TV, iPhone, iPod, etc. etc. etc.

  • Itunes video sound quality

I've used itunes for years prior to buying an ipod.
Now that I have the ipod, ALL of my video files' sound is corrupted. It is very scratchy and full of static, but only when played on my computer. The sound quality on my ipod is flawless. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Why such sorry sound quality on iTunes? On some of my purchases the sound level is suppressed on the audio. On others the volume is so low that if I have it set for another song and a new one starts I have to increase the volume to hear it.

There is so much distortion on some of the music I have to play it with QuickTime to get a "clean" track.
What can be done to get a consistent volume level or is this another typical Apple product that you have to take what you get and be happy because it's not a Microsoft product?

If that's the best you can do why don't you get on another forum?

  • ITunes 7.0.2 sound quality worse than 7.0.1

Hello, I just downloaded iTunes 7.0.2 and noticed a distinct loss in sound quality with this version of the software. All of my sound files are already in the Apple Losless format. What happened with this version of the software, and what can I do?

  • Sound Quality changes between itunes 8.2.1 and itunes 9.1

I am using itunes and a modified Airport Express as my audio source in my Hifi Stereo system.
It is working so well that I have discarded my high end audiophile CD player.
However I found an issue with itunes consistency from version to version in audio quality.
Here is the experience I conducted:
    Using:
    - a mac mini with Snow Leopard and itunes 8.2.1 and a macbook pro with Snow Leopard and itunes 9.1.
    - Identical Wav (full res 16bit 44.1Khz) files local to each mac.
to be completely accurate the music used was:
Ben Webster Meets Oscar Peterson: T01 The Touch Of Your Lips
Diana Krall Live in Paris: T11 A Case of You
    - in both cases itunes streams to the Airport Express (same one)
-> The result is that the there is a difference in sound between the two itunes, and I would like to understand what changed or why this difference?
If I were to describe the differences I would say that itunes 8.2.1 delivers a softer sound with more medium than itunes 9.1. Itunes 9.1 would have a brighter sound with less medium than itunes 8.2.1.
(On a side note, not relevant for the problem above, but could interest some people: When I access with my mac with itunes 9.1 the itunes 8.2.1 library on the other mac, the sound quality streamed to the AE is poor compared to either itunes version used with local files. I wonder how apple streams the music from one itunes to the next but that music it altered may be compressed in this case.)

    Chris thanks for this answer.
I did check the settings on both Macs/itunes and they are identical. Everything is disabled. The remote volume is also disabled on both.
So the sound quality difference cannot be explained by that.

  • Poor Sound Quality with iTunes 8

I just installed iTunes 8, and all of the songs in my Library play with poor sound quality regardless of the view I have open. The sound is really muffled, but the voices and higher frequencies sound tinny and shaky. I tried playing with the Equalizer and Sound Enhancer settings, but was not able to fix the problem.
What can I do to get the iTunes 7 sound back?

I, too, am experiencing a significant decline in the sound quality of recordings in my collection. The recordings sound very muffled on the low, bass end of the sound spectrum, and the treble is significantly diminished. This decline in sound quality occurred immediately after I upgraded to iTunes 8. The sound quality in iTunes 7 was fine, and overall better.
It appears that my iTunes 8 attempts to improve the playback sound quality of songs with 128 kbps bit rates, as these songs in my collection do seem to actually sound better. However, most of my collection are recordings imported at the higher sound quality standard of 320 kbps from CDs that I purchased, and these recordings all sound poor since I've installed iTunes 8.

  • Poor sound quality on some iTunes songs

Downloaded some songs from iTunes and realized a really poor sound quality on some files.
The worst example is "Precious" from "Depeche Mode" (Album version). It seems to me that the AAC file is encoded at a much too high level, so its overdriven and distorted.
If i burn the song to CD and than analyze the track in WaveLab it is obvious that the song was encoded with a level more than 6dB over the usual level and i can see a lot of clippings.
Downloaded another song of another band that i allready have on CD, just to compare... and this song was much better. Even this was 3dB over the original CD level (and the song on CD had a peak level reserve of only 0.1dB), but while listening that song i heared no negative effects...
So from my point of view iTunes is not really an acceptable offer if i can't rely on a minimum sound quality of the songs that i pay for!
    So, the question is:
Is this normal or is the "Depeche Mode" album only one rare bad example???

    Yes, of cause, tried all.
EQ off, or EQ with all sliders a little below 0dB.
With my tests i saw no effect of the EQ to the CD burning quality.
Only if i change the CD burning options (in german "Lautstärke anpassen", something like "adapt volume" or so), than i get a CD that has the same bad quality, only at a lower volume.
The same distorted and overdriven sound with clippings at a lower level (peak -12dB).
What if it's really a bad file?
    Do they fix such files?
Will i have a chance to download it again? (without paying another time?)

  • Why the extremely poor sound quality in playback with itunes?

I am having problems with the sound quality of itunes music. this applies to both downloads and cd's. This problem is new, I believe, and affects bluetooth speaker, earphones, and macbook pro internal speaker. All have extremely poor playback with itunes. This Problem does not happen with playback of youtube videos.
Thanks for any advice you can give.

I would be worth playing some tracks with Quicktime so see what the quality is like there.
iTunes uses Quicktime to play music.

  • ITunes 9.0.2 sound quality issue

Since I installed iTunes 9.0.2 I have sound quality problems. Everything sounds like a bad 64 bit mp3 song - when I listen to the same track in QuickTime or VLC everything sounds as it should.
I checked all settings in iTunes but can't figure out the problem. No active equalizer, sound via line-out to high-quality AKG headphone.
Does anybody have the same issue - or maybe a solution?
Thank you for your advices ...

Not to belabor this, but in case there are others with similar issues, I wanted to add what I hope will be a coda to our whole story. Today after playing one or two songs we were back to the static and poor sound quality--even with the replacement amp! In both cases (old and new amp) we had the airport express connected via the "phono" port, so this time we tried another port--and it seems to be working fine for an entire album's worth of jazz.
I googled the problem and right away turned up the following sentence in the Airport Express setup guide at http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/AirPortExpress_SetupGuide5.1.pdf.
"Note: Do not connect AirPort Express to the phono jack on your stereo."
No elaboration is given, but I can certainly attest to the validity of this advice. Whatever you do, in connecting to your stereo, don't use the phono port!
