ITunes started by itself.. Started playing "Thriller" video ***

Is it possible for someone to have gained wireless access to my macbook? My macbook was sitting on the table with only me in the house.. next thing I know the Thriller video in my itunes starts playing. I'm home alone and was no where near the computer. I didn't even have itunes open. I know this sounds like a joke but I'm really serious. I don't believe in ghost or anything like that but I'm kind of worried about  security now. Any ideas??

I'm having the same problem.  It started a couple of hours ago.  I turned off the infrared receiver thinking it could be a neighbor with a new apple tv or something, but a few minutes later itunes boots up and starts playing some random music again.  I checked ical just in case, but I know i've never set up an event using itunes music as an alarm.
In fact, as I type this, after i've turned off all Sharing (including printer, screen sharing, file sharing, all of them), turned off bluetooth, itunes just booted up again and played some random music.  All I have left to turn off is wifi which i will do once I hit send to this post.  It's very annoying and i also worry about security issues.

Sorry you are having problems. First of all try Fifrefox's safemode.

<u>First: Try a clean install, (you have had a none standard version installed previously)</u><br /> that involves deleting the program files. Then if necessary try troubleshooting by creating and using a clean empty Firefox profile.

  • ITunes 7.4 won't play music videos

When I doubleclick on a music video, iTunes 7.4 won't play the video, only the music. Music videos where playing fine with prior versions of iTunes. No matter which option I choose in the Video Playback preferences, iTunes won't launch the video. Restarting iTunes didn't bring back music video playback either. Podcasts and Movies are playing just fine though.
    Any help ?
    Thanks

I had the same problem and I landed here - OS10.7, had iTunes 10.5.2 *thinking* it was playing - acts like it was?, shows pause icon - no audio, no actual playback.  ...Scrubber dot didn't move onPlay click. (And, dam, I was hungry for music!), but..  That's where I discovered it.  Of course, I had browser audio probs, too - YouTube, Hulu - and Skype - any app output audio was affected...
I struggled with this for at least a day!  Frustrated, I took out my other OS10 boot drives and tried troubleshooting...  No dice.  I halted CoreAudioD (whew) out of desperation...  I checked my audio lines..  Then I remembered I installed a trial of ProTools with an Avid audio driver (maybe looking for Digi-approved devices) at around the time of trouble.
My SysPref audio panel was showing only Avid's device - no line in, no ext spkr..  So, I ran the ProTools uninstaller to try that. That's where EVERYTHING went back to absolutely normal! (After the restart).  SysPref Audio panel shows all!  I selected LineOut (for me), and I got it.
iTunes and other audio-service-consuming apps suddenly didn't take 4 minutes to launch!, and my Lion install was like I first had it.  ProTools has a dedicated uninstaller - install that clean.  If you have a PT install that works, check the iLok config - my iLok is active and attached, but not for PT 10.  Maybe it's avid device->CoreAudio, may it's due to the PT trial???... Whatever it was, for me, the problem lied there.
Hope that helps any of you guys.  Good luck and thanks for the direction, bros..

  • ITunes starts playing automatically

I just installed the latest update today (2-26-14).  Now, my iPhone will start playing a random song in iTunes.  This has happened a dozen times.  I am not using my phone, it is sitting next to me at work and it just starts playing.
Anyone else seen this?  Any settings I can use to turn this off?  I will delete my entire iTunes library and use Pandora if this continues.  I can't have my phone start playing at work.

    Hey GoSC,
Thanks for the question. That definitely sounds frustrating! To troubleshoot this issues, let’s restart/reset your device:

  • Start playing a video not fully saved yet

    Hello,
    - what I want to do: Basically, Broadcast a video from a server computer to client computers using JMF as a player.
I tried transmitting the video thought RTP
Problem: the codec needs random access to Media so format not supported or not suitable player blah blah
Solution?_: Should I try to reencode it in supported format and do it again?
I tried sending the video by like 500b packages and start playing it before the file is completed (youtube like)
    Problem: Always the same error
    Failed to configure: com.sun.media.PlaybackEngine@22ab57
IO exception: BasicPullParser: readBytes(): Reached end of stream while trying to read 4 bytes
    Error: Unable to realize com.sun.media.PlaybackEngine@22ab57
FATAL ERROR: Failed to realize: failed to parse the input media.
Exception in thread "JMF thread: SendEventQueue: com.sun.media.content.unknown.Handler" java.lang.Error: Failed to realize: failed to parse the input media.
Solution?_: no clue, I tried quickly to create my player with Manager.createRealizedPlayer(new MediaLocator(Path)); but no success
I don't really know what to do now, does anyone have any clue to help me find a solution?

Problem: the codec needs random access to Media so format not supported or not suitable player blah blah
Solution?_: Should I try to reencode it in supported format and do it again?Ummmm, you shouldn't be receiving that error if the server is loading a video file from disk... but you might look into using a simplier format, RGB-encoded AVIs (for instance)...

You should DEFINATELY be using a PushBuffer instead of a PullBuffer, because receiving a stream is a push event, not a pull event. Making it a PushBuffer will stop that error from occuring (that error says "I looked for data and there was none", which cannot occur if the Player only looks for data when its DataSource tells it it has data...)

  • Itunes opens by itself and plays music at random hours. I was awakened in the middle of the night.

Does anyone else have this problem? I actually talked to an Apple support person who laughed and said "is this a Halloween joke?" It is not a joke, I am so annoyed by this behaviour of itunes that I will have to uninstall and go without if it isn't solved. I have tried all sorts of things, I have uninstalled 3 times now, waited a few days and reinstalled a new version but it continues to happen. The other annoying and insulting thing itunes does is not only open by itself but then constantly post warnings that I am not authorized to play my music. This is not music that I have purchased but have burned off my own collection of CDs which I think is perfectly legal.

    Thank you!
My Mac Mini runs iTunes all the time, so the Apple TV's in the LAN can play music stored on the Mini.  Normally, I don't play music directly from iTunes on the Mini, but many times I have logged in to the Mini only to find music playing when it should not be.  I pause the music, and then sometime later it starts playing again on the Mini, seemingly all by itself.  This has been going on for some time, and a real puzzle.  I've tried various remedies, including making an empty playlist and opening it on the Mini in iTunes.  Nothing I tried had worked, so I just turned the iTunes volume completely down, and lived with this "ghost in the machine."
It so happens my Mini lives in a media closet where one of the ATV's also lives (on the same shelf).  My devices in the media closet are controlled via infrared transmitters inside the closet which, in turn, are controlled by RF via the Logitech Harmony 900 in another room.
It never occurred to me that the infrared signals sent to the ATV were also being picked up by the IR receiver in the Mac Mini (which I never realized existed and was turned on by default).  I disabled the IR receiver on the Mini, and hallelujah!  No more iTunes music mysteriously playing on the Mini itself inside the media closet!

  • Help - Itune crash while trying to play purchased video

Itunes will freeze or crash anytime I try to play a tv show or movie purchased off of Itunes.  I noticed I'm not the only person with the problem.  Maybe Apple can try and fix the problem for its customers ??
I have intalled all the latest drivers and reinstalled Itunes and maniplated Quicktime - I think apple now needs to stop accusing the customers and fix the itunes software -
    Thank you

    many thanks.
    Fault Module Name: QuickTime.qts
    Fault Module Version: 7.66.71.0
Okay. let's first try uninstalling and reinstalling your QuickTime. We'll also take a few other explicit precautions, just in case. Best to print out a copy of these instructions, because at one stage of proceedings you won't be able to use a web browser.
    Preliminaries
Download and save a copy of the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file from the Apple Website. (Don't run the install on line and don't start the install just yet. get the installer that doesn't mention iTunes.)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
    *Uninstall phase*
Head into your Uninstall a program control panel and uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we'll remove any leftover program files and folders.
In Computer, open your C drive.
Open the "Program Files (x86)" folder.
Right-click on the "QuickTime" folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
Go back into your C drive (or whichever drive your operating system is installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "SysWOW64" folder.
Right-click on the "QuickTime" file (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
Right-click on the "QuickTimeVR" file (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
    Empty your recycle bin.
    *Reinstall phase*
Restart the PC. After the PC restarts do not open any applications. Disconnect from your network and/or the internet. Now switch off all your security software (firewall, antivirus, antispyware).
Now start the reinstall by doubleclicking the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file you downloaded earlier.
Reenable all security software prior to reconnecting to the internet and/or your network.
Does the QuickTime reinstall seem to go through smoothly? If so, try launching iTunes again and trying to play one of the affected videos. Do you still get the same iTunes error, or are the files playing properly now?

  • ITunes 10.6.3 wont play music videos

No music videos will play on my retina macbook pro.  Only the sound plays.
This is only happening for music videos.
mac os 10.8.1 with iTunes 10.6.3.  How do I fix this?  Why cant
    I play my music videos????????

Thanks for the reply.  I just solved this issue.  The last time I had played music in iTunes on my laptop I had done so through my Airport Express.  For some reason it still believed I was streaming through the Airport Express even though it was off and wouldn't play the video.  Once I turned back on the airport express and then deselected it from available speaker the video for music videos returned!

  • Snow Leopard iTunes 10.5 will not play multiple video tracks in QuickTime .MOV files

I recently discovered that Snow Leopard iTunes version 10.5 won't play multiple video tracks in a QuickTime .MOV file.
Both video tracks appear and play correctly when playing the file in:
    - QuickTime Player 10 or QuickTime Player 7.7 on the same Snow Leopard machine
    - iTunes 10.3.1 on another Snow Leopard machine
    - iTunes 10.5 on Leopard or Windows 7
So I think the problem is iTunes 10.5 on Snow Leopard (although I haven't been able to test iTunes 10.4).
First test file is two 640x480 video tracks side-by-side (total dimensions 1280x480):
    http://160.94.17.23/demo/two-video-tracks-1280x480.mov
All I see is the first (left) video track, and not the right one.  iTunes "Get Info" command incorrectly reports the video dimensions of the file as 640x480.
Second test file is two 640x480 video tracks played one after another (duration of 10 seconds each):
    http://160.94.17.23/demo/two-video-tracks-640x480.mov
All I see is the first video track, and although it reports the correct file duration (20 seconds), the second video track never appears -- it simply freezes on the final frame of the first video track for the last 10 seconds.
Anyone else see similar behavior?  Unless I'm missing something, I suppose I should submit this as a bug to Apple.

I have the same problem, i tried re-installing, converting it to AVC H264 but none seems to work so far

  • ITunes has no sound when playing music/videos from iTouch

    Hi,
When I plug my iTouch into my computer to play the songs/video on it, iTunes shows that it is playing but there is no sound. Also, when I try to play a song from my iTunes library or store, it doesn't play at all.
The sounds on my computer are fine, because everything else that makes a sound works.
    Can anyone help me please?
    Thank you

I have almost the exact same problem, except that mine is without the iTouch. My itunes is working perfectly - uploading music from CD's, searching for music, syncing with my iPod classic. However when i ask it to play any music it will say that it is playing yet not only will no sound come out but the timer bar will not move either. it is the same with music in the itunes store and happens regardless of what else is happening on my laptop.
i know my sound works fine with all other programs, and i read on another forum that 'repairing' itunes through the control panel fixes it, however this is not the case.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • ITunes 7.0 does not play my videos

When I upgraded to iTunes 7.0 it screwed up my videos. All of my music videos and almost all of my tv shows do not show the video. The sound is still there, but the screen is just a fuzzy green mess. How can I fix it?

Instead of using Safe Mode (GDI Only), you may want to conside unchecking the 3D acceleration as suggested in this article:

  • ITunes starts playing album in shuffle mode?

I haven't used iTunes in awhile, mostly been listening to music on my iPod. When I pressed play, I started to realize that the opera I was listening to didn't make much sense, and looked up, and noticed that it had started in shuffle mode, does iTunes do this now? I have shuffle off, yet it started in shuffle anyway?

Sorry, let me clarify. I'm not shuffling the songs on the iPod, which would be a random order every time. I've created a paylist within iTunes of about 30 CD's, in which I've shuffled those songs in iTunes. So that playlist is the same list of songs everytime, even though I've shuffled them. That list will stay the same until I reshuffle within iTunes.

  • After I downloaded the most recent versions of itunes and quicktime  I cannot play any videos, tutorials.  Thank you for any help.

Videos will not play after downloading the mmost recent versions of Itunes and Quicktime.  What can I do?  The video tries to start but freezes and does not respond.

Appreciate the suggestion.  I did the repair, but videos still don't play.
I tried putting quicktime in "safe mode", but that also did not solve the video-play problem.
However, I downloaded a video and that video does play.
A video may start but quickly freezes.
In itunes is the player "quicktime or itunes"?
When I open the quicktime player(its appearance doesn't look like a player with controls for play, pause, etc.).
Maybe the controls appear when play begins' however, then I try to open any song of video, I always get the same message:  "Do you want to allow this website to open a program on your computer(in itunes, I assume).)
If i choose "yes" I get an error message.
I thought this additional information might be helpful, but you can just answer the original question if you have some additional ideas.
    Thanks for your help.
