Itunes started speeding through songs with no sound

All of a sudden, Itunes has started speeding through songs, as if on super fast forward. There is no sound, and it moves on to the next in a hurry. I updated Itunes and Quicktime this morning and it still continues. Any ideas? I've run malware and spyware checkers, with no findings of anything bad.

Yout computer has one volume button and iTunes has another. What position is the volume slider in itunes? To the right will increase volume.
You can check your System Prefs>Harware>Sound to see what your system settings are.

Starting partway through songs instead of at the beginning

for some reason, itunes is starting partway through songs (between 5 seconds to a minute or so), instead of at beginning. i don't have crossfade on, not that this would result in such an action. when i click the progress diamond back to the start of any song, it plays normally from the start, so i know the files aren't corrupted.
what gives, and how to troubleshoot? thanks.

By BEFORE burning the DVD - control that in organizing mode (sort of block diagram) Your movie HAS NOT ended up in the top left hand box "Auto Start box" - If so - move it over to next box in line.
AND - still before any BURNING
Save as a DiskImage.
Double click on this new .img file created
Test play it with the DVD-tool (in Applications - in Your Mac) - To see that all functions OK

ITunes starts and plays songs automatically

I installed Itunes 12.0.1.26 and Yosemite last night and now iTunes starts and plays songs automatically. What is the problem with iTunes? Could someone else have my iTunes account? Should I delete ITunes and re-installed?

I agree with/have same problem as vinfromacton.
I know it's Flash causing the problem:iTunes had been functioning normally until this morning when I downloaded Flashto allow me to listen to archived radio programs on the internet.
Once I downloaded Flash, iTunes startedopening and playing automatically ~ every 2-3 minutes. Annoying as it playsover audio I am listening to &/or recording.
Only fix I've found is to turn iTunesvolume down to zero: does not stop iTunes from opening - it continues to do so- but I don't hear the iTunes audio.
I'm also going to try dr alexander'ssuggestion: Open a blank Playlist > leave iTunes focus there>quit iTunes.
It reopens but at least it'ssilenced....
Haven't tried it but I would imagine uninstallingFlash (need to download the uninstaller from the Adobe website) would solve theproblem. This however would lead me back to my original problem: no Flash >cannot listen to audio archived on the internet and other internet audio...
I'm also going to call Apple: I haveAppleCare. Will re-post after talking to them.

URGENT PLEASE HELP: iTunes Will Play Songs With No Sound.

Hello all. I recently did the following and significantly screwed up my iTunes:
-Tried to move my directory to an external hard drive.
-This didn't work, so I then had to reload my iTunes.
-I did this by doing the standard copying the .xml library file to the desktop, deleting the old library files and importing the new .xml into the iTunes.
-However, I now have music in my iTunes, but when I click on files, they'll play but with no sound. No exclamation point comes up next to them to signal they're missing, but just no sound.
-Tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the latest iTunes. Still nothing.
I also tried dragging a random song into iTunes to see whether it was just a directory mix-up still, but no dice. Right now, the directory for my iTunes is Macintosh HD:Users:name:Music:iTunes:iTunes Music.
Please help!!!!

Well, that could be, but before thinking of an hardware issue, first check all possible software settings.
Try this:
In System Preferences>Sound there are two volume sliders.
Set the Output volume about halfway. Now move the Alert volume slider just a little bit. This normally will invoke the Mac to play the selected alert sound.
Still no sound?
Can you connect a headphone to the PB?
If yes, does it have sound?

ITunes Radio jumping through songs and not playing

What the heck is going on with iTunes raddio!!! It flashes through songs rapidally and then won't play! My regular purchased playlists work fine. It's only iTunes radio.

I'm having this problem as well. I used to listen to iTunes radio at work frequently. But the past few months or so, it simply fast scrolls through songs (on any station). I'm lucky if I get one song to play and then the scrolling starts. I do not have this problem with my WiFi at home, so I suspect it has something to do with the WiFi at work. Just wondering if anyone found any settings to change or a workaround to the issue?
I agree with sounds_good; I wish Apple would find a solution with a future iOS update as I miss iTunes radio while at work!
And I find it odd that Pandora has never been problematic like iTunes radio is...

Itunes fast fowards through song

Sometimes when I am playing a song and then I scroll down and double click on another song Itunes doesn't play the song but rather attempts to fast forward through the whole song. I have to stop the song with the controls and then double click it again to make it play properly.
Any suggestions as to why this is happening?

Look for an app called VBRfix.
I've had it fix songs that would play in WMP but not in iTunes before... some kind of a corrupt header ended up being the problem

ITunes replacing 256 bit songs with 128 bit songs

When I downloaded new applications from the App Store today, I noticed that my downloads in iTunes also downloaded six songs. Upon further inspection, it replaced three Peter Gabriel Songs from the Album "So" with 128 bit versions, and moved my 256 bit versions to the trash. I purchsed six songs, total, off of that album, but only three were replaced and deleted.
In addition to moving the above songs to the trash, it also sidelined a handful of songs by copying new versions, including:
I've been Everywhere, Johnny Cash, Unchained
Baby Baby, Amy Grant, (no record of previous purchase from this same album)
New York, New York, Tony Bennett, Fifty Years (previously had a 128 bit version, and it downloaded a second 128 bit version)
Anyone else experience this? You can easily check after the fact by sorting on recently modified songs, and see if you have any 128 bit versions, or if you don't empty your trash often, by looking for the "Original iTunes Purchases" in your trash. This will show any files that have been deleted, but not sidelined.

I saw ginbear's post and looked again. I had two more replaced files. Appears they were replaced on 1/22 and 1/24 of this year. I have a couple thousand iTunes tracks, and it only seems to replace a couple ever few months. Luckily, I was able to retrieve the files. One from a recent backup, and the other from a one-off copy I made just in case, the last time it happened.
Here's the response I received from Apple after pursuing it for a couple weeks the last time it happened. They looked at specific tracks iTunes had downloaded.
I'm not sure what the representative is trying to say, but I was glad they looked into the issue.

Name, this issue is one that does not occur often (I myself have only encountered one other instance of this happening). This may have been caused by a technical error in the iTune Store itself resulting in the pre-upgraded file to download automatically to your account which has been only been known to happen on very rare occasion.
The other explanation may have been an error in iTunes, or with your iTunes library file that caused the 128-bit DRM files to replace your 256-bit DRM free files. For example, if your iTunes library was restored from an iTunes library file before the upgrade was made.
In any case, it is not the iTunes Store's intent to replace your music with pre-upgraded files so I am very glad to hear that you were able to recover your iTunes Plus music, and do not appear to have any files missing.

Itunes is not connecting songs with data (my itunes is a mess)

For some reason, i have two itunes folders and my libraries got seperated at one point. There are alot of songs in my library that itunes cannot locate original file. I found the folder that has all these songs. I added this folder by adding the whole folder which was called "itunes06" to the itunes folder and then I also added the whole folder by using "file>add to libary" in itunes. Now all of the songs are in itunes however the rating was not matched up with the songs.
Now I have alot of duplicate songs. Each duplicate has a file that cannot find the original with the rating. The songs that can be located are missing the rating data. I have hundreds of songs that I went through and rated at one point in time, and there is no way I am going to do all that again. Why is the data not being linked to the newly added songs. Is it because I have all the songs "itunes06" in its own folder that is in the "itunes" folder. Should I moved all the contents (songs) from itunes06 to the itunes folder? If i did this would the data be linked?

Your Itunes can only have one folder. To set it up correctly go to iTunes preferences. Then go to Advanced.
You will see where your music should be in the folder location window. It will say something like /Volumes/HD/iTunes Music. All you music should be in this folder, if it is not then it will not work correctly.
If you want to use another folder you must do it from here by clicking the change button at the right hand side of the location window.

Why can't iTunes down load two songs with the same name but different artists to my iPhone?

I noticed this a couple of years ago but had forgotten about it. Today I purchased two songs, both called Bop Gun (One Nation) but by different artists. When I looked at the purchased list on one appears. If I go back to iTunes and download the other one, the former disappears. Are they honestly saying that these phones are intelligent enough to distinguish a song by artist rather than track listing?

Usually a song is uniquely identified by song name, artist, album and track number. That said internally I suspect the iTunes Store may allow one song to appear on more than one album while they only need to store one copy of the audio data. (They must also be able to cope with the situation, for example, where the UK & US version of an album have a different track order). It is also possible there is an error in the database that means you're not getting the song you're expecting. If you can't successfully download the two (presumably) different versions of the song then use the report a problem links in your account history and explain the issue. Hopefully the iTunes Store support staff can get it resolved.

For some reason, the iTunes store started re-downloading about half the songs I've purchased, which is now turning my phone into a data-burning, battery burninng brick. This is about 38 songs that I already downloaded onto my phone, and now they keep trying to re-download. Why is this?

Never mind, I just received an email saying the old files had audio quality issues, which are fixed in the new files.

Music is just going through songs with out playing them.

I have iTunes Match, up until recently this has worked on my iPad 2 and iPhone 5 up until yesterday. Now when I select any music that is not downloaded to the Device, it does not playing anything. Just skips through the songs. I've tried turning match off and on and quick reset of each device. And now that I have turned iTunes Match off then on, all music is not playing.

ITunes match replacing studio songs with live songs

ok - so I noticed one day that many of the studio versions of my songs had been replaced and/or combined with live songs from other albums by a given artist. Luckily, I had a backup. So I restored a bunch of songs, imported them into my iTunes library and then ran iTunes match again. What it did was reduce my song count by about 300 songs and once again certain studio versions of songs are replaced with live versions, and some songs have disappeared entirely.
Is this how Match is supposed to work? Has anyone else run into similar problems?

Yes, iTunes Match can be made to work with more than one Apple Id. One route is simply to import Songs into a new library using the separate libraries for each Apple Id as source. Attempting to play Songs will prompt for authorisation if not already present on the computer. Once authorisation is complete for each Apple Id concerned the new library can be used with iTunes Match to cover all Songs.
Hope this is helpful - ensuring you have secure backups of all source libraries prior to this action is recommended. Also worth backing up resulting new library both before and after iTunes Match attempt to support restoration of any files as needed at a later date.

Reboot your computer
Disable your firewall and antivirus
Connect the cable to a USB port directly on the computer, not to a hub, but do not connect to the phone yet
Launch iTunes
Hold HOME and SLEEP buttons on the phone until the screen turns black, then release SLEEP but continue holding HOME
Connect the cable while holding HOME and wait for iTunes to recognize a phone in Recovery mode
Release the button and the phone should restore.

Itunes 9 rates new songs with 2 stars automatically

i upgraded my itunes and i found out that whenever i add new songs they are rated with two stars. and stars look different they are a bit faded. i tried to remove the ratings but still they are there. i can increase or decrease the rating but not remove the ratings. can anyone help?
