ITunes starting and playing by itself?

I recently upgraded my mac mini to OS XMavericks. now my ITunes stars up and starts playing by itself every 3 to 10 minutes. Does any one know if there is a setting i could turn off to stop this? I would really apreciate any feedback

Oh no! You have a ghost. Haha. Just kidding.
Do you have a pair of Apple Headphones connected or have a Apple Remote nearby? If you press the button on the headphones, iTunes will launch and play music. The remote could also cause iTunes to launch and play music. If not, reinstall iTunes. Click here: https://www.apple.com/itunes/ > Download iTunes > Just install the file when it's done downloading.

  • ITunes starts and plays songs automatically

I installed Itunes 12.0.1.26 and Yosemite last night and now iTunes starts and plays songs automatically.  What is the problem with iTunes?  Could someone else have my iTunes account?  Should I delete ITunes and re-installed?

I agree with/have same problem as vinfromacton.
I know it's Flash causing the problem:iTunes had been functioning normally until this morning when I downloaded Flashto allow me to listen to archived radio programs on the internet.
Once I downloaded Flash, iTunes startedopening and playing automatically ~ every 2-3 minutes. Annoying as it playsover audio I am listening to &/or recording.
Only fix I've found is to turn iTunesvolume down to zero: does not stop iTunes from opening - it continues to do so- but I don't hear the iTunes audio.
I'm also going to try dr alexander'ssuggestion: Open a blank Playlist > leave iTunes focus there>quit iTunes.
It reopens but at least it'ssilenced....
Haven't tried it but I would imagine uninstallingFlash (need to download the uninstaller from the Adobe website) would solve theproblem. This however would lead me back to my original problem: no Flash >cannot listen to audio archived on the internet and other internet audio...
I'm also going to call Apple: I haveAppleCare. Will re-post after talking to them.

  • How can I stop iTunes from launching and playing by itself?

iTunes launches and plays by itself, which is very annoying, given that there is no discernable reason for it to do so.
Nothing in preferences should allow this. No device is connected. The library is not being shared.
Has anyone found a solution to this?

Check Dashboard to see if you have any iTunes-related widgets running. If so, close them and see if that makes a difference. Similarly, look for any third-party apps that may be related to iTunes, such as apps that copy "now playing" information to a web site.
Another possibility is external speakers, if you have them. Another user here found that a loose speaker connection may cause random launching and playing on iTunes. Try wiggling the speaker plug and see if that causes iTunes to launch.  If so, unplugging and reconnecting the speakers may cure the problem. If not, you may have a defective speaker jack or an off-size plug on the speakers.
    Hope this helps.

  • Latest IPad 2 iOS 5.0 ICloud freeze and play by itself

    Hi,
I have 2 iPads. One is just ipad 1 wifi and it works perfect! and another one iPad 2 3G.
I had ipad 2 3G (bought directly from apple website) may 2011 till sep 2011 -did work absolutely fine. Then I gave it away and recently bought the latest version in December 2011 from comet.
What a crap.! I am absolutely disappointed. I do need internet with me all the time and that was a reason I bought 3G.
    It definitely has a bug!
I can't use the Internet for more than 10 min or when I need it.  It is not freezing, it freaks out and plays by itself.
The apps are moving, the settings of airplane buttons are switching on and off, settings of 3G switching on and off! Location services are switching on and off.
Apps are opennning and closing. It all happens when I do not touch iPad at all.
During this time home button does not work, only switch off button works.
I have upgraded to the latest version, reset to factory setting, restarted nothing works.
Shall I give it back to the store and replace? But what if the others ipads are the same?
    Thanks for advice.

If you have reset your iPad and restored it maybe the next step is the Apple Store.

Help me!!!! my itunes library and play list are disappearance!!! Please!! 50gb of music!!

Layoff whatever drugs you are taking... they have seriously messed with your brain.
No content shows in iTunes after updating
iTunes 11.04 is most certainly compatible with iOS5 and previous versions of iTunes.

  • HT5848 How do I listen to iTunes Radio and play other game/apps at the same time? On an iPad.

Anytime you open an app that has a persistant sound stream - a movie, a podcast, some games - it will overide the music app's stream. nothiong you can do to change it.

  • Downloaded MP3 files not visible in playlist. I can find them by going through my desktop Start button and typing in the name of the file and clicking on it, then iTunes opens and plays it but I still can't see it in the playlist.

I have downloaded several files from a radio stations archives.  They download as MPEG Audio Layer 3 files.  When I go to the playlist that they are supposedly in I can not see them. But if I click Start on my desktop and type in the file names then iTunes opens and takes me to the playlist (where you see no list) and begins playing.   Any idea how I can get the list to show?

  • I was downloading music to my iTunes account and playing music from my I tunes library when all of the sudden it stopped playing and the control panel won't let me restart the music.....why

I was downloading music cd from my PC to my I tunes library and playing music on the I tunes player at the same time when all of the sudden my music stop playing and I can't get the I tunes player to restart playing music from my library again. The I tunes equalizer / player box with timer shows the song ready to play but the controls won't restart the song.......why not, and how to I get it to restart playing my library?

    - You need to restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod and start anew.  Is the restore button visable in iTunes?  If it is they restore the iPod.
    - If it is not visible try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - If the restore button is still not visable, try placing the iPod in recovry mode.  See:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore

  • Music not from Itunes starts to play in background

I am unable to find the source of music that starts to play. This is not anything in my Itunes library, Itunes is not on when this occurs. I tried using Activity Monitor to see the source but no clues, could this be malware, or a virus, the music starts to play after browsing on safari and playing a news clip, or video. Any thoughts, this is driving me nuts.

Thank you, I looked at the dashboard and there are pasted images and clips of pokemon characters and when I place the cursor over them, the music starts to play. I left my work computer unlocked on saturday and my seven year old son went surfing the net and found a pokemon web site and he told me he was clicking on lots of things. I now enabled the password setting on the screen saver to keep this from happening again.

  • ITunes 7 and playing videos

So, I recently downloaded iTunes 7 and never really used the video features because I had an older 3rd Gen iPod. I got an iPod video for Christmas and have been trying to get the video feature working on iTunes. I had some videos in my library, and they worked fine in my older version of iTunes.
However, I have discovered that the new version does not play ANY videos at all.
It won't let me import videos on my computer (and I have made sure they are the correct size and format) and it simply will not play any videos I have in my library (some that I purchased from the iTunes store) and it will not load any videos onto my iPod video. Interesting, eh?
Is anyone else having this problem?
I tried to download an older version of iTunes, but it would not install. I re-installed the new version and the same problem happened. I've been pouring over the support sites trying to find out what is going on but haven't found anything helpful. I even tried to uninstall itunes so I could re-install an older version, but it still wouldn't install.
I'm at my wit's end! Any help?

Someone I tried to help earlier encountered this problem. Let me know if the following link helps. They managed to figure out themselves what they needed to do. (Just mentioned that cos I don't like takin' credit for sumthin I didn't do)

  • When i connect iphone to PC, Itunes starts and shows iphone.

Then i go to Store and download some App.
How can i go back to show Iphone and load App to telephone?
Do i have to reset PC and start again with iphone to USB connected?
    Enzo

You can just download the app on your phone without need of the computer. You must have Wi-Fi in your house if you could download an app on the computer. Make sure your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi as well. To download an app on your phone wihout the computer, go into the App Store app on your iPhone and press the Search button (on the bottom of the screen). Then, type in the name of that app you want to download and press Search, then press the button that says Free (it might also have the iCloud logo instead of the Free button). The app will ask for your iTunes password and then the app will download immediately. If you payed for the app already on your computer, it will be free on your phone if you are using the same iTunes account.

  • ITunes recognises (and plays) CDs, asks if I'd like to import it but when I confirm, error message appears: 'Error occurred while converting the file track name . The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.'  Fix?

This problem seems to affect all CDs.  I've tried selecting and deselecting the 'error correction' box on the import settings but this makes no difference.  I'm running W7 Home Premium with SP1.  iTunes Version is: 11.1.3.8  Diagnostics confirms all CD/DVD Drive tests are successful.
As I say, iTunes will play the CD without ny problem.  Has anyone experienced this and what's the fix?

Thank you so much! I was in the same situation (iTunes library stored on external hard disk). Strangely, iTunes knew where my music was stored (i.e. if I clicked a song it would link to the library location and play with no problems). But in the "Advanced" settings, the location of my iTunes Library was blank. So I just pointed to the correct location and now everything is working OK! Thanks again.

  • ITunes detects and plays video at wrong resolution?

I just reinstalled Leopard on my mac mini, and when I finished I copied my old iTunes music and videos back into the iTunes folder, then got iTunes to import it. All my music and most of my video imported fine, except for all the stuff I'd recorded with eyeTV. In quicktime these files play full screen with no bar, and are listed as 1024x576. iTunes on the other hand has decided that they are 1456x576 and when it plays them squishes them down vertical so there is a black bar top and bottom. They are visible squished...so iTunes is definitely wrong here, anyone know how to fix it though?

I've seen your screengrabs at macnews.de (would be helpful to publish here either...)
    http://www.webgraphics.at/macnews/Quicktime.png
    http://www.webgraphics.at/macnews/iTunes.png
the 'native' res of your files is 704x576.. and your .m4v - files are anamorph-flagged, so QTplayer does correctly show a playback size of 1024x576 res.
    but..
if your files get on the process of copying 'lost' their internal m4v tagging.. (= 'transmorphed' to mov), e.g., you used a fat32-formatted drive for your transfer, these 'metadata' got lost.. then, indeed, iTunes will read 1024 as width for an 'anamorph' video, which results in that infamous 1489 pix width..
guess, that is a) a user generated error (=wrong copy process, or wrong formatted drive), or we have the finger (again) on a QT 'bug' ... these 'flags' are an excellent option to get lost..
hopefully, QTKirk will join this thread..

  • HT4527 how do you transfer iTunes ratings and plays to new computer

I used home sharing to load all music to new computer, but ratings and play counts did not transfer over.
    Can you help?

Your ratings, play counts, etc, are saved in the library database, which can be imported to iTunes on a new computer (or a new download of iTunes on the same computer, if necessary).
The library database file is in the iTunes folder (I've never been able to open it from within iTunes).  If you stuck with the default installation settings, it should be in C/Documents and Settings/User/My Documents/My Music/iTunes.
This file is simply a database of all your play counts, ratings, etc, and can be backed up to a memory stick, flash drive, or whatever.
Then it can be imported to iTunes on a newly-authorized computer from File -> Import Library.
(I'm assuming this will be a one-time-only procedure.  This doesn't work like syncing, and subsequent changes won't automatically transfer...)
