ITunes starts randomly & forced restart..

This happened to me twice today, when iTunes opened up completely on it's own. When I closed it, I got the gray curtain and had to shutdown because of a "problem"..
Has anyone experienced this or come across a remedy? If it helps, I'm using Snow Leopard and whatever version of iTunes it comes with. My iMac is a bit over a month old.
Thanks for any insight!

I am experiencing this right now - iTunes suddenly starts up, begins to play the first song on the playlist, I deny access and close it up. A few minutes later it does it again and the music starts up in the song list. This has been going on for the past half hour. I restarted my iMac and it is still happening.
I have set it up to open in the Apple Store so the music is not playing this time.
Is there some setting in the prefs that I need to use? I am using iTunes 9.

  • Itunes starts randomly

My new IPhone4 is great..I am a new Iphone user and haven't figured out all the settings. When my phone is apparently in locked mode and I put it in my pocket or briefcase, it will somehow start playing itunes...sometime I don't even notice it until the battery is almost dead. I'm wondering is there a way I can keep Itunes from starting when I have my phone stored in my pocket or briefcase?

I have a similar problem. I have an iPhone 3Gs and it is synched with the blue tooth system on my Lexus GS. For a year and a half, it worked beautifully, with my iPhone always connecting via BT to the car audio system automatically as soon as I started my car. Phone calls were coming in crystal clear. Then I upgraded to iOS 5.1.1, and I started having problems with the BT connection in the car. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not. If it didn't work, the fix was to go to the iPhone's Settings, turn BT off, then turn it back on, and the connection would happen. Not very convenient, but at least that was a way to make it work. Now, for the first time since I've owned the phone, I've bought a few songs through iTunes a few days ago, and since then, my BT is stuck on iPod. I establish the BT connection as before (turn BT off, then back on), and as soon as the connection is made, one of the songs I have in my Music folder starts playing. And then if a phone call comes in, it rings on the iPhone but does not transfer through BT to the car's audio system, where the iPod song still continues to play. I can take the call on the handset and the iPod song still plays on the car's audio system. Any idea how to address that?

  • Random forced restart

During the last couple of days my iMac has been really unstable. When the computer has been on for 30 min I recieve a message that I need to restart the computer.. And that problem keeps repeating.
I have updated the software, run a disk check, repaired disk, unplugged usb's, you name it, but nothing works. It doesn't matter if I am running any programs or not. Quiete frustrating.
This is the describtion I recieve after restarting the computer:

  • BI Publisher (Obiee 11g) Scheduled jobs start randomly after services restarting

    Hi everybody,
I've a problem with scheduled jobs on BI Publisher that start randomly after server restarting.
For example if there's a job scheduled every day at 8.00 am it works fine until the server is not restarted but when I restart it next job running start at 9.28 am (it is an example because the real start time is very unpredictable).
In my case bi publisher is integrated with obiee 11g (11.1.1.6.2) and I've scheduled jobs with administrative user (weblogic). For this user I've set the Bi Publisher Preferences (report locale = Italiano-Italia, Report Time Zone = GMT +1:00) from obiee analytics user account preferencies.
Can anyone have this problem too and help me?
    Thanks
    Annalisa

These are not helpful. The first link is to OBIEE 10g and the second is just an install guide. I am having the same issue with BI Publisher returning java.lang.NullPointerException in OBIEE 11g. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
    Paul

no, if iTunes can't find its drive/folder, it defaults to creating one within your Home directory's Music folder.
If anyone knows a way I send a product suggestions to apple please let me know, as I have a few that would like to suggest.
under the iTunes menu choose the Feedback menuItem.

  • Many random abrupt restarts with ML and my Mac Pro

Any help would be appreciated with this...
Ive recently clean installed Mountain Lion with only a handful of 3rd party apps on my 2009(?) Mac Pro and seem to be getting  about 3-6 random Kernal Panics and/or abrupt restarts a day.  There seems to be no rhyme or reason for them as they all happen when doing differant tasks.  Last time it happened I was only browsing in Safari with itunes playing in the background.  iTunes started to skip like a scratched record 4 or 5 times then suddenly the computer shut down and restarted itself.  Below is the report that I sent to Apple.  Any idea whats causing the problem or suggestions on a fix?  If more info is required Id be happy to post.  Thanks!

  • Secondary internal hard drive disappeared from desktop after forced restart

I have three internal hard drives, one for system, the other two for data storage. While permorming a search on one of the data drives i clicked the "X" to the right of the spinning wheel on the bottom right of the search window to stop the search but the computer froze (wheel kept spinning). I then went through the dock and quit all applications, except for InDesign which wasn't responding to force quit.
The only way out was a force restart. Upon restart, one of the internal data hard drives did not show up on the desktop, nor after a couple more restarts, nor after restarting from the installation disk, verifying and repairing disks and permissions on the other hard drives with disk utility.
    where did it go?
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Dual 1.25 GHz, 2MB L3 cache each, 2GB DDR SDRAM

no it doesn't show up at all in those either.
Hmm. Then that sounds like the interface to the drive isn't even talking. You could try opening up the computer and making sure the cables are all connected firmly (of course, it should be off).

Unfortunately, I don't see anything helpful here. It's just like it disappeared (or never existed) as far as the OS is concerned. If you can find your original disks that came with the computer, you could try running the hardware test and see if it kicks up any errors, either with a drive or a drive controller on the motherboard.

  • Kernel Panic resulting from force restart

My MBP has gone into Kernel Panic and I am not certain how to resolve. By resolve, I mean get back to my desktop/applications The Kernel Panic resulted from a force restart, held down the Power button because I was attempting do a regular shutdown but was not able to force quit some applications..they seemed to be hanging. Safari was one, iPhoto...also I had just synced a new iPad2. Maybe I didn't disconnect the iPad2 properly? I did have anything connected to the MBP...
I tried to startup in Safe Mode...but will not, just the kernel panic with instructions to hold down power button and restart...my MBP runs pretty well and I have never had a Kernel Panic since I bought it in August 2009
I do have most of the files backed up using TimeMachine on an external drive...
I have a my 15-inch MacBook Pro Mac Os X install DVD, that came with the Laptop...
There might have been another DVD that came with the box set/ I also have my Snow Leopard upgrade DVD. I believe I was running 10.6.5 but I keep up with the System Software updates and I was also getting prompted to update to the latest 10.6.7, so maybe I had 10.6.6.
So Kernel Panic is has never happened before, I didn't add anything, except for an iPad2 sync... but I believe that I got too impatient to shutdown when I couldn't force quit apps as quickly as I wanted too
I think the Apple Software updater was open, although I did not initiate an update, other apps included: Microsoft Word Safari, iPhoto, iTunes, Dreamweaver, Adobe Illustrator CS..maybe Photoshop..Yeah I think I had too many apps open when I tried to force restart. In practice I do not force restart...usually never. So to recap, I got impatient, force restarted with way too many apps, some big apps open, and set off a kernel panic on my MBP with no other devices attached.
I know part of the steps to recover involves booting from a DVD, but which one? The Mac OSX X Install DVD or the Snow Leopard Upgrade DVD? then...how to I get back to TimeMachine to do a restore if necessary?
    thanks in advance.
    Patrick

    Sadly,
After running and completing the hardware test which is passed..I then booted off the Snow Leopard DVD and ran the Disk Utility and to Repair the Disk and it said the Disk is not repairable..
    Invalid Node Structure
And told me to back up my files.
    So...I suppose the next steps:
Try to run DiskWarrior, to either fix the Invalid Node Structure or at least
retreive the files thru the HD preview.
Boot off the Snow Leopard DVD and reformat the drive and then, I should plug my external hard drive back in with the save Time Machine Data and I can click Restore and pretty much get back what I had when Time Machine made its last back up?
If Disk Warrior does not work. How can I try to get some files off the computer before I reformat the disk ... without using DiskWarrior? With or without DW I want to try a restore...
Is it a best practice to reformat the HD and then do a "Restore" off a bootable DVD? This would eliminate any previous issues and start off with a sound drive as opposed to trying to go right to a "restore" procedure.
    Thanks again!

  • Forced Restart Since 7/4/07 Update

I updated my software on 7/4/07, including iTunes 7.3, Security Update 2007-006 (Universal) 1.0, and Mac OS X Update (Intel) 10.4.10.
Since then, I have begun having forced restarts. My screen goes gray, and I am told in several languages that I must hold the Power key for 3 seconds to restart.
When I hold the Power key down, my computer shuts down. When I restart, it offers me the option to Report the shut down to Apple and receive additional information, but nothing ever happens.
    Please help!

I have the eaxct same prob on my MBP.
Had to borrow a computer to log in and see these messages. Havereset pmc, deleted start-ups (including the msterious itunes helper app), reparied permisions, re-seated my ram chips, tried using battery only, cable only. I have an iPhone and it seems liked it started craping-out the moment I plugged my iPhone in after installing the updated itunes software.
Can I delet iTunes and re-install without corrupting my music and film library?
Is there a way to go back to prev. itunes version?
Will this week's iPhone update fix the issues?
    hellppp...

  • Randomly forced to restore my iPod to factory settings

I'm just about ready to give up on iTunes or iPod - whichever is responsible for my problems.
Two weeks ago I bought a 60GB Video iPod. After just a few days I had to take it back, as iTunes would randomly stop being able to read its contents. Of course, the only way to rectify the problem was to restore it to factory settings, meaning that I had to spend hours transferring my music back each time. It seemed to happen about every 4-5 times I connected the iPod to add more music.
Apple's tech support agreed that this was a hardware issue, and that my computer met the requirements, so I took it back to be replaced. I've owned my new one for about a week, and I've run into the same problem. I've just been forced to restore it so I have a blank iPod again.
I simply cannot work this way, as I use my iPod for teaching and need to be able to add files without having to start from scratch. I can't understand why this is happening, as I have reinstalled iTunes and the iPod updater to ensure I have the latest versions.
    Please help, I'm going insane.
    5G 60GB Video   Windows XP

Just as a follow-up to this...
I spent an hour on the phone with Apple's tech support yesterday. The person I spoke to was very helpful, and suggested that the cause of the problem might be that my computer's hard drives used the NTFS file system, while my iPod was FAT32. He helped me to reformat my iPod to NTFS and then restore it once more. He was convinced this would solve my problems.
While I agree that his suggestion was logical and may prevent future issues, plugging my iPod in today caused the same error message. Simply plugging it in has deleted much of my music (or at least rendered it inaccessable from my iPod's menu - I suspect it's still there as not enough time passed for it to delete that much music) and I can't add more until I restore it again.
Surely somebody's experienced this before? Bear in mind that this is the second iPod in less than 3 weeks to present these symptoms.

  • BUG: Forced Restart Via Creative Cloud Desktop Application Installer

Hey guys, I was trying to install a few adobe products and have been encountering strange errors.
The following bug has been experienced when trying to install Adobe Application Manager, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Dreamweaver, and Adobe Illustrator.
Program will install to about 44% or so and then say "extracting". After extraction, it displays the %installation, increases about 4-10%, then forcefully restarts my computer.
According to my computer, no errors are present (looked in the events log)
Here are the following things I have tried to remedy this issue.
Running windows update for all general updates and going to intel to update graphics driver.
    1.  a. Removing all Adobe applications via control panel and using the Adobe CCleaner utility.
         b. Re-installing Creative Cloud w/ administrator privileges
         c. Attempting to reinstall application.
    2. Tries the above but in Safe mode.
    3. a. Looked at computer resources to make certain CPU wasn't somehow overheating.
        b. CPU temperature was not adversely affected nor did the utilization rate of any resources(CPU, GPU, Drive, Network) exceed 25%
        c. Viewed the event logs to determine if any errors were present. The even log displayed no errors had occurred during any of the forced restarts.
On a side note- I found that despite Skype being told not to start-up on boot, it is actually reducing my boot time by 6 seconds!
    4. Went into advanced settings and unchecked the box that allows windows to automatically restart on error.
I am at a loss as to why it is forcibly restarting my computer. Adobe products are the ONLY products that I have experienced any issues with during installation.
However, in order to remedy this issue here is some information regarding computer specs.

  • Photo in iPhoto Library Corrupted after forced Restart

    Hi,
I'm a switcher. I've decided to switch to mac after contemplating for almost 6 months. I'm glad I've switched, the Mac is an excellent machine and Superb OS!!
Recently, I have encountered a problem while using iPhoto, Photoshop Element 2 and Preview together. (Please note that I did not tempered any files in iPhoto library. I have stored all my photo in My Documents which I do my editing using PSE 2 and Preview a pictures stored on the desktop). While dragging a file from My Document folder to the Trash, the Dock hanged! I quit all the apps and the dock is not responding and I decided to relaunch Finder by going to Force Quit and still no respond. I try restart the system but it hanged and I have to switch off the mac by pressing the button. When I re-sart the system and launch iPhoto, it prompted that "The photo library was created with an unreleased version of iPhoto" and I can't start iPhoto at all. It seems that some of my photo in the library are corrupted. Has anybody has the same experience? Would appreciate if anybody can help.
I've been playing my iMac for about 1.5 months already, and the only apps that I'm not comfortable is iPhoto. I've been using Picasa 2 on my Dell notebook to organize my photo and it's much more simpler and user friendly as compare to iPhoto.

    Jonathan:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions and the Mac community. First, what I do whenever I have to have a forced restart of my Mac or have a kernel panic (dark gray curtain descends over the screen with a multiple language warning) is to immediately boot into single user mode and run the file system check (fsck). Here's how:
    FSCK - File System Check
To start up in single-user mode
    1. Restart the computer.
    2. Immediately after the startup sound, press and hold both the Command (Apple) and "s" keys on your keyboard. The computer will display a series of text messages, at which time you may release these keys.
When the computer has started up, it will display a command line prompt (#). The computer is now in single-user mode.
How to Run the File System Check from the Command Line
Once you have reached a command line, follow these steps to use fsck:
    1. At the prompt, type: fsck -fy (NOTE, there is a space between the k and the “-”)
The fsck utility will go through five "phases" and then return information about the disk's utilization and fragmentation. Once the check is finished, if no issue is found, you should see "** The volume <name of volume> appears to be OK."
If fsck alters, repairs, or fixes anything, it will display the message:
**** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***
IMPORTANT: If this message appears, repeat the "fsck -fy" command until this message no longer appears. It is not unusual for your computer to require several "passes" of fsck, because first-pass repairs may uncover additional errors. Run it until you get two consecutive times with an "OK" result.
    3. When fsck reports that no problems were found, type: reboot
    4. Press Return.
Now to your problem. It's more than likely that, as you expected, you have a damaged dB file in your iPhoto library folder and I doubt you'll be able to recover but we'll give it our best shot.
First run Disk Utility and repair disk permissions (also recommended after any software installation or update). Make a backup copy of the iPhoto Library folder (select and type Command-D). Now launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. I would only select the option to rebuild the database.
If that brings it back you're on you way and can delete the backup library folder. If not and the rebuilt library is more messed up than the original, delete it.
Your best shot now is to launch iPhoto and when it asks to find a library or create a new one select Create. In the File menu select the Add to Library option. Direct iPhoto to your old iPhoto Library folder and select it for importing. That should get your photos back partially organized but don't know how much. You will lose album, keyword and comment information.
    For future reference read
