ITunes still doesn't recognize iPod Touch with Microsoft Security Essentials Installed

Just updated iTunes to v. 10.3.1.55 and still have the same problem with iTunes freezing when connecting my iTouch.  It will eventually respond but never recognizes my ipod.  Un-install Microsoft Security Essentials and it works fine.  I have 2 other computers with the same setup (software wise) and neither of those have this issue.
Here's a thread with more details I've posted trying to find an answer to this...
http://www.sevenforums.com/system-security/161085-security-essentials-itunes.htm l#post1439068
Any help would be appreciated...
Thanks,
Mike

Thanks for the suggestions, however I have already tried that and it had no effect.  I've put in exclusions, and even went so far as to disable the MSE service and still have the issue.  The only thing that corrects it is uninstalling MSE completely.
This USED to work fine until I updated to iTunes 10.2.2 a couple of months ago...that release seems to be when it broke.
I've even went so far as to completely reload my PC and it will work perfectly until MSE is installed....then no luck.

The iPod touch is completely new, no missing contacts etc. It works on other macs as well. Only my iMac doesn't see the iPod Touch. Maybe I can repost this problem in The IMAC section in stead of the iPod Touch, since I think its a iMac problem from now on...

  • How to find a lost iPod Touch with IOS 4.3 installed?

How do you go about finding a lost iPod Touch with IOS 4.3 installed? I had updated my iPod Touch to IOS 4.3 and I had read something about the update having the ability to help one find their lost device.
Is there documentation anywhere that outlines how this works?

  • ITunes freezes and doesn't recognize iPod Touch

Let me start by saying that I finally know what the problem is, I just don't know how to fix it
About a 2-3 weeks ago, when connecting my iTouch (1st gen) to sync with iTunes it would freeze the app (but all other windows and programs worked fine).  You could hear Windows "recognize" the device and if you left it attached, after about 3 minutes iTunes would then start responding again.  However my iTouch wouldn't show up.  It was recognized in device manager with no errors, just not showing in iTunes.  I could attach it to my Netbook or any other PC I had and it would be recognized and work perfectly, just not with my main system.
After spending hours online trying to find a solution and going through the normal stuff (i.e. Re-install of iTunes, update of drivers, reset iTouch to defaults etc.) I finally came to the conclusion that perhaps it was possible that something was just amiss with that particular PC.  Since it had been awhile anyway, I decided to just wipe and reload Windows just to ensure everything was working correctly.
To my surprise, the exact same issue returned! At this point I knew it had to be some type of issue or conflict with another piece of software I had installed.  So once again I formatted and began a reload of my system, only this time I noted and tested at each step of the re-install (installation of Windows updates, drivers and software).  I finally found what was causing the issue!  And the culprit is........(drumroll please).........
    Microsoft Security Essentials
No way you say!  Yes way and I proved it....
By stepping through the re-install process and testing iTunes after every change, it stopped working and gave me the same issue listed above right after I installed Microsoft Security Essentials.  Just to put my mind at ease, I uninstalled Microsoft Security Essentials, and immediately the issue went away and iTunes was able to see my iTouch again.
At this point, I'm not sure if it's a iTunes or a Microsoft Security Essentials issue, so I'm posting this in both forums.

iTunes & Microsoft Security Essentials (latest versions)
Anybody have an idea of how to resovle this (other than the obvious one of removing Microsoft Security Essentials)?  I actually like Microsoft Security Essentials as my AV client so I'd like to find an answer that allows me to continue using it.
Thanks in advance for any help,

Hmm....I just had another thought.  All the machines are running Win7 SP1, BUT the 2 that can sync with MSE installed are 32bit versions, however the one that can't is 64bit.  Not sure if that makes any difference though.  All are clean installs with Win7SP1 media, not SP1 installed later.

  • ITunes doesn't recognize iPod Touch

I doubt that this is a Touch-specific question, but that's what I have. A couple weeks ago, I reinstalled 10.4. Since then, iTunes has not recognized my iPod touch when I plug it in. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Max

    Hello,
Try re-installing the latest version of iTunes:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
I realize this is very un-Mac like fault finding but several people have reported that when updating to Leopard they had to re-install iTunes 7.6 to get their +iPod touch+ to be recognized again. I believe this be because the +iPod touch+ needs the Apple Mobile Device Service to be installed which is removed during some OS updates and can only be reapplied by installing iTunes again.

OK so i am in the exact same boat as you guys.....I also upgraded to the "latest and greatest" and got stuck with a version of iTunes that wont see my iPod Touch...I have tried
    uninstall then reinstall
disconnecting internet cable before plugging ipod in (saw tht somewhere,,not to much hope)
Going into msconfig and shutting down all possible conflicts
Turning off any and all antivirus, internet filtering, and firewall software
    Putting iPod in DFU mode
Restoring on other computer than connecting
    Reseting ipod
I am completely at a loss and would love to use my iPod again
I am really hoping apple will fix this before i give up....

  • Everything deleted & iTunes & Updater doesn't recognize iPod

Yeah, that's my problem. Funny thing is, I didn't do anything to the iPod to cause the problem. One day I was just adding songs to the iPod & using it like a hard drive (things I've done before with no problems) & then I turn it on two days later to find all my songs deleted. It was returned to factory settings when I didn't do anything.
I hooked iPod up to my computer & it's not recognized by iTunes or the Updater. My computer, however, recognizes it & says that the iPod has the memory it did before the problem. I read the article for when iPod isn't recognized by iTunes or iPod, but I don't know if this would also apply because I also have the another problem. I didn't try this yet because I gave my iPod to some one to help me. He couldn't solve my problem so I'm turning it over to all of you.
    Thanks so much!

Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.

  • Itunes doesn't recognize ipod touch even after I download latest version

About a week ago my ipod touch froze on the apple logo screen. I found a way to reset the factory setting and then try something else (can't remember what it was) where the itunes logo shows up on the screen and you plug it into your computer. After I did that a message came up that said "The ipod "ipod touch" cannot be used because it requires itunes version 9.2 or later. Go to itunes.com to download the latest version of itunes". I did that and it still won't recognize it. I even downloaded the latest version of iTunes 3 times and after I plug my ipod in still the same message. I got this ipod touch as a Christmas gift in 2009. A friend of my mom's bought a car and it came with it. She didn't want it so she gave it to me. So, I'm not even sure which version it is. I've had no problems with it up until now. What do I need to do to get itunes to recognize my ipod? There's got to be more than downloaded the latest version several times- I know that's not good.

  • Itunes doesn't recognize Ipod Touch 4g

I purchased my daughter a brand new Ipod Touch 4G last weekend.   When we connect the new Ipod Touch to my daughters computer, Itunes won't recognize her Ipod Touch.   However, I can attach her Ipod Touch to two other computers and it recognizes without problem.
When I plug in the Ipod touch to her computer, it makes a noise indicating it has recognized something is plugged in but nothing is recognized in Itunes.
And what is more strange is her computer will recognize four other Apple devices without problem (an I Phone 4G, an I Phone 3G, an I Pad 2 and a Ipod Touch 3G).
I have completely gone through the recommended Ipod Touch Trouble Shooting steps 4 times now and have no success with the Ipod Touch recognized on my daughters computer.   I have completely removed all the Apple software (Bonjour, Itunes, Apple, etc.) and reinstalled.     I have even removed the anti virus software and it didn't help.
I have also tried to completely erase the Ipod Touch holding down the Sleep Walk button and Home Button for 10 seconds.   After plugging in to her computer when indicated, I get an error message that the reset was not successful.
It is so strange that her computer recognizes 4 other apple devices without problem and her Ipod touch is recognized by 2 other computers without problem.   There has to be a specific reason that it won't work on my daughters computer.
Any suggestions beyond the Ipod Touch Trouble Shooting link?

    - First try placing the iPOd in recovery mode and resoring via iTunes on the computer: For recovery mode:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808- Then it is time for an appountment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.  Sounds like you have a defective iPod.

  • Windows doesn't recognize ipod touch 4g even when in recovery mode, what can i do. itunes doesn't detect it either.

when i try to conect my ipod touch 4g to my laptop, it doesn't recgonize it itunes doesn't either. at first i would get a pop up from my laptop saying something about the driver buit now nothing happens, but when i try to connet an ipad or ipod nano 3g everything works fine, i have the latest version of itunes and i have firmware 4.3.5 on my ipod. please help.

What happens when you connect to computer and restore via iTunes?

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • ITunes 9 does not recognize iPod Touch (1st Gen); Vista does -- as a ...

...Still Digital Camera, complete with a DCIM folder.
Upon USB hookup, Vista popups up a new window with the directory My Computer\Apple iPod\ , with the sub-directories of Internal Storage\DCIM. Free space and Used space are both 0 bytes.
Additionally, the attempt to reset the iPod failed, as Vista claims that recovery mode for the iPod is not supported.

It says 9.1.1(11) -- and the update check says it's there are no updates for me.
Looking through the drivers that are associated with the iPod, I get:
    \system32\drivers\WpdMtpDr.dll
    \system32\drivers\WpdUSB.dll
    \system32\drivers\WUDFRd.sys
    \system32\WpdConns.dll
    \system32\WpdMtp.dll
    \system32\WpdMtpUS.dll
    No USBaApl.sys at all.
An attempt to auto-update the driver and by manually pointing to the \system32\drivers\ directory yields:
Best driver already installed -- Digital Still Camera
Without an .inf file to easily associate to the iPod, it's hard to choose which of the device drivers to force the usbaaple.sys to the iPod -- I can't choose .sys files, only .infs.

Outside of the Kodak drivers, I've no idea which one would be best suited for the iPod, and I suspect none of them will work. I should note, the iTunes did recognize the iPod at some point. Thankfully, I only sync'ed to the iPod instead of maintaining a portion of my library on the iPod Touch (I lost some tracks on an iPod Mini when slipped off the jack and hit the ground, crashing the hard drive); I don't have any photos or videos on it.
