ITunes STILL skipping tracks (V. 11.4)

Ok, so I've had the problem of itunes skipping tracks in mid song, or just at any point.  For any particular album, the skip is at the exact same time.  This is getting very annoying.  I have tried: disk utility, installing and uninstalling itunes, rebuilding the library, removing extensions, adding and removing tracks, and adding and removing tracks.  It is worth mentioning that this only happens with tracks that I have added recently.  It is also worth mentioning that the tracks play just fine on other playback apps like Quicktime.  I had hoped the 11.4 update would fix this bug, but it has not.
I would GREATLY appreciate it if anybody has discovered the solution to this problem.  Otherwise, I will have no choice but to replace iTunes as my music playback application, and that would be a real bummer.
Thank you.

Still waiting for a solution, I found a kind of workaround (not very useful if you had a lot of new music since you experience the bug).
I came to think that the problem is due to a bug in the analysis that iTunes performs to album tracks when importing new albums (what was called "gapless playback before iTunes 11). So I tried this and it works for me:
- ask iTunes to show where the tracks are (in the Finder on Mac, in Explorer on PC)
- return to iTunes and remove the tracks from the library (tell it to remove the songs but not to put the files in the trash)
- in the Finder (or Explorer for those on PC), re-import the songs one by one
Still waiting for a better solution of course. I'll try to rebuild the iTunes library entirely to see if it solves the problem but I don’t expect this to solve the problem so I'm not in a rush to do this annoying task.

  • ITunes is skipping tracks. Why?

The iTunes player skips two tracks in a row of an album I bought at iTunes store. All the the other thousands of tracks play OK, but these two won't play, either on the PC or the iPod. Any help? Thanks.

    Hi, Susana.
Thank you for the question.  If the issue is being experienced on the computer and iPod, it could be an issue with the downloaded files itself.  I would recommend deleting the songs that are giving you the issue and download them again free of charge via the Purchased section of the iTunes Store.  When you selected the songs to delete it will present you with two options.  Make sure to select the option that says keep file as it will delete it from iTunes but not off the computer.

  • Itunes still skipping and now other players skip too

I made all the changes suggested and for a couple days itunes was working perfectly. Now its skipping again. Now jet audio and wmp also skip though not nearly as much as itunes. I thought it might be system related but I have enough memory, fairly new computer. There has to be a long term solution to this skipping problem, I just don't know what it is.
I followed all the suggestions, made the changes, itunes has priority and still... how do I fix this?
    Thanks
    Carla

I am having the same problem. It just started a couple weeks ago - either when my iTunes updated or when my iPod did. And I have no idea how to fix it.
    Any suggestions? Anyone?
    Thanks.

  • Bad Track Transfers into iTunes, Get Skipped on iPhone?

I just noticed that my 1st gen and 3g iphones have been skipping tracks, maybe two or three per normal-sized album. The same tracks get skipped on both iphones. They will stop on the song, then go go on to the next one, as if the track was zero seconds long (though it displays the correct length). But the tracks that get skipped in the iphones will play fine in itunes. They are apple lossless btw. These skipped songs have played fine before in the 1st gen iphone. So I know it's probably not the files themselves, nor is it the iphones (unless it's related to 2.0), which leaves me thinking itunes is the culprit. So I want to delete the albums from itunes and bring them in again. When I do, they come right in, as opposed to when you bring in a new album or one you haven't had in itunes for a long time, where it analyzes each track, etc. In other words, itunes gives the albums the "I know you, come on in" treatment. Well this didn't fix my problem. So I want itunes to pick up the tracks/albums as if they were new, without having to wait a year. I can't figure out how to do this without reinstalling itunes. I even changed the path to the song files, thinking this would do the trick, but itunes basically didn't buy it- i.e. still recognized them. Is there anything I can do here?

Ok I found a workaround, if you have apple lossless tracks (and perhaps others) that your iphone (maybe ipods also) won't play, even if they used to play these very tracks fine before, you can convert them with dbPowerAmp from what they were into what they were- I convert the apple lossless files which won't play into apple lossless files (or you could convert to flac and back to mp4, but why bother). The new track should play fine (the originals were also created in dbPoweramp). This is the only thing I've found that will work- I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, renamed the bad mp4 files, copied (not moved) them to new directories, and redid all their tag values, and none of this worked. I think the key is that itunes checks some kind of file related hash code or checksum or crc or something (not my department), and converting the file changes it enough to be recognized as new (maybe there's a timestamp embedded somewhere in the converted file).

  • Windows 7 and iTunes 9.02 Cannot Skip Tracks

I can hit "play" and hear a song but cannot skip a track. When I hit the skip track button, it just stops playing.
Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Are the little checkboxes to the left of name ticked? If not iTunes will not advance to the next track as iTunes skips unchecked tracks.
To check all, press ctrl & click in one of the little boxes or use select all, then right click in the selection and choose check all.

  • ITunes is skipping every track I listen.

iTunes is skipping every track I listen when it reaches 03:55s
I have also tried to re add those albums to iTunes again without success.
I have also tried opening any song with Quicktime (where I can listen them perfectly)
I have the latest version of iTunes & Maverick.
This started happening me yesterday, (I have already tried restarting my computer)

  • ITunes pausing, playing, skipping tracks without any input.

About an hour ago, my iTunes began to pause, play and skip tracks without me doing anything at all. I made sure that i wasnt pressing ANY buttons and i even quit the app altogether. This did not help as it just reopened seconds later and began playing music again. How can i stop this from happening?

I just started having this very same problem. iTunes (9.1) will stop and start on its own. Sometimes I am listening to music while in another app, like in a browser or word processor, and it will pause itself every few minutes. It will be fine for a while, then it will pause, I start it again, and it pauses again and again. Other times it will just randomly start playing if was left paused.
The freakiest is when the app starts up by it self. I watched it Start up on its own 3 times in one hour. I think this is why my computer once woke up from sleep mode in the middle of the night.
It is like there is a ghost playing with my computer, or iTunes is possessed. I did several virus scans, and their was nothing. I also Ran Tech tool. Next I will work with Disk Utility, see if that finds anything.
The only thing that occurred about the same time was I started getting more spam in the email account that goes to my mac mail. These may be unrelated, but it is the only noticeable thing that has occurred around the same time.
This feels like some sort of Malware, Zombie computer situation, but I can't find much about Mac Malware evidence out there.

Match does not change anything in your library.  To get the new (uograded) copy for songs that match, you have to delete the original and download the matched copy.

  • IPod Mini continually skips tracks all the time every half a second!

My iPod Mini continually skips tracks all the time every half a second. The only thing that stops it is if you press pause but once you press play off it goes again. This means noi music is able to be played because it's always skipping. The menu button works as does the backlight if you hold the menu button down. The enter button works and the touch pad navigation also works. Both skip buttons have no effect on the unstoppable skipping. Can anybody help or at least verify the problem with other users of simular problems and if they were able to fix them simply, without having to go to an Apple dealer (it's out of warrenty i think)Any help would be appreciated.

  • I pod classic 160gb skips tracks and will only play sometimes, i pod classic 160gb skips tracks and will only play sometimes

my i pod classic 160gb is reluctant to play stored tracks and then just keeps skipping tracks. have tried restoring settings and then syncing i tunes twice but still the same.

That is a different issue; the hard drive on your iPod is probably fine.
I seem to recall another post a while back in this forum, where the poster said that there seems to be a limit for the length of a single item on the iPod, and it is 24 hours.  Is that the "exact point in each book" that you observe?  If true (I have not confirmed), that may be a limitation of the software on the iPod.
If it is possible to purchase audiobooks that are broken into shorter segments (as an option), that may be a work-around.  iTunes will still treat it as one book, for syncing, but the segments would be like songs in an album.
If you would like to continue discussing your different problem, it would be best to create a new topic instead of posting in this topic.  You can do so by going to the forum category

  • Ipod Mini skipping tracks randomly

Help, my Ipod's gone all weird on me - had it for approx 8 months without a pick of bother, however yesterday its refusing to play certain songs - songs which have played without a hitch before, and automatically jumps or skips to the next listed track. The songs play fine on my PC and were all downloaded from itunes.
    Compaq   Windows XP

You need to play at least a part of songs purchased from the iTMS to authorize them. They won't copy to your iPod until you do this.
How to transfer Purchased Music from iTunes to your iPod
    iTMS Song and Computer Authorization
If you've played & authorized them in iTunes and they still skip, try this. De-authorize the computer in iTunes/Advanced menu, then re-authorize it. You re-authorize it by playing one of the songs purchased from the iTunes Music Store within iTunes. It should ask you for your Apple ID and password, and then the computer will be authorized again. Sync your iPod with iTunes, and those songs should play on the iPod once again.
Another common cause of this is not having the latest version of iTunes.
If you are using the latest version of iTunes (6.0.2), then you need to make sure your iPod software is up to date also. Get the iPod Updater software, install it, run it and update your iPod.
When you have done this, authorize your music in iTunes by playing a few seconds of it within iTunes, re-sync your iPod, and it should transfer by whatever synching method you choose.

  • My itunes is skipping

I had the previous edition of itunes and my musci had recently started skipping, i updated to 7.4 today and my tracks are still skipping, is it jsut my computer slowing down or a glitch in itunes? any suggestions or insights would be great! Thanks alot!

    Hi Nick,
Your PB has plenty of "horsepower" to handel itunes, safari, and IM. If the CPU useage is fluctuating (normal) it shouldn't have any effect on iTunes. It would be different if you had a constantly high CPU use, which indicates a loop or unresponsive application, etc. To give you an example of how little it takes to run iTunes smoothly - I have an original Titanium PowerBook with a 400MHz G4 and 768MB of RAM and have no difficulty.
I've read a number of other posts with iTunes skipping and although no solutions have been posted, it seems to be software related. I don't see any commonality in the posts - different machines (dual processor/single, different models, different years, different platforms -OSX and XP, different versions of iTunes.)
I've also check outside forums and find the same complaints, but no solutions. Could I suggest taking your PB to an AppleStore and having them look it over at the Genius Bar? Would you mind posting back with any results that you find?
I'm sorry I couldn't help any more than that.

  • Classic SKIPS TRACK while on HOLD sometimes.

I ordered my iPod Classic the other week and it arrived Monday, and I started using it just about 48 hours ago. I usually put it on shuffle and keep it on hold, and for the most part, it runs smoothly. After every 30 or 40 songs, however, the iPod will skip to the next track at any moment in the song. At first I thought I might have just accidentally clicked the skip button while hold was off, but much to my dismay, that theory has been proven wrong a good 6 times since. I can confirm that the iPod skips track while on hold in my pocket, me minding my own business.
I restored the factory settings this morning, thinking perhaps something went wrong when I first started up my iPod, but it has happened once since then.
I was wondering if this is a common problem perhaps with the current firmware or a setting out of place, or if it's a hardware problem that warrants a return to the good ol' factory. Thanks ahead of time, I'll check back and elaborate on the problem if need be.

I am having similar problem, but not exactly same. I haven't noticed the "hold" switch having any effect either way. See details below (first line is iLounge post title):
iPod Classic (7g) won't play MPEG4 audio files; keeps skipping to next track
Brand-new ipod will not play MPEG4 audio-only (not video) files that have file extension .mp4 (they still don't play if switched to .m4a extension). Having no problems playing other files .mp3, .m4a. The "Summary" tab on the file info shows file type as "MPEG-4 video file". Is this the problem, or do all mp4 tracks default to that file type?
When i try to play any album of .mp4 tracks, the iPod just skips from the track 1 to track 2, then to the 3d, and so on until it runs out of tracks -- after playing maybe a split second, maybe nothing of each track. This happens with various albums, and only with .mp4 files, no others.
All these tracks do play flawlessly in iTunes as audio tracks, and in Quicktime no video shows up; and they will play off the iPod, when the iPod is playing through iTunes. But not when iPod is playing alone.
I have restored iPod & installed the software update. I can get tracks to play if i use "convert to AAC option", but for various reasons this not desirable solution.
Any ideas on how to get these .mp4 tracks to play on the iPod? Anyone else having this problem ? I googled & didn't see any reference to this problem with MPEG4 audio, only so problems with video files.

  • 120gb ipod keeps resetting and skipping tracks

I just recently bought a brand new 120gb ipod adn all of the sudden it is skipping down tracks in the middle of a song and it also resets on its own...i will be searching through my artist list and it will all the sudden reset and go back to the apple logo then it is fine for a while until it does ti again...i have tried the five r's and am feeling angry that this keeps happening...if anyone has any suggestions or an answer for that matter it would be gratly appreciated..

I just bought a new macbook pro and got the 120gb ipod with it for $20 after the rebate. i downloaded all my songs onto the new computer and then synced them with the new ipod. the songs would play all the way through but the ipod started skipping in the middle of the song to go to the next song. so it would play though a whole bunch of songs, then halfway through one, it would skip to the next. at first i thought it was a corrupt song so i pressed the previous button to see if the song would play all the way though and the song wound up playing completely and then move onto the next song. it began to do it more frequently so i brought it to the apple store and they swapped it for a new one. i just synced the ipod again and its skipping again. I took my old 30gb ipod and synced it to the same exact itunes library so both ipods mirrored each other and the 120gb still skips but the 30gb doesnt. so i have no idea what is going on with the 120gb ipod but i want to find a solution to this problem before my warranty runs out. can anyone please help?
