" old version of quicktime cannot be deleted, itunes needs quicktime, download incomplete"
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:

does an itunes install go through properly after you've cleaned that out of the way?

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • ITunes Won't Open - QuickTime Error?

    Hi there,
I ran a system restore on my computer because it was acting a little weird, and when I went to open iTunes, it wouldn't open. I uninstalled, reinstalled, restarted my computer, shut off my computer.. everything.
I keep getting the following error message:
    "QuickTime was not found.
Quicktime is required to run iTunes. Please reinstall iTunes."
I've tried this, about 5 or 6 times to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Things seem to have got in a muddle, it is probably best to remove all iTunes related programs and start gain. I will give you a method for removal and phased reinstall of Quicktime. I have included installer cleanup, but this is only required for any programs wher the uninstall fails.
If you computer was acting funny, have you checked for malware? That can cause problems for iTunes.
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program.
To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install Cleanup
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.

  • ITunes Setup downloads iTunes 7, but iTunes 7 won't open, no error message

So I've been at this for months, trying to update my iTunes from 6 to 7, and previous versions have opened on my laptop, but this time, NO! I've downloaded the setup for 7, it loads the program and we restart the computer so that it can get the new parameters straight, so then I try to open iTunes and the mouse pointer gives me the hourglass and the iTunes icon flickers and turns to a white box for a split second and back to the regular icon. The program doesn't open, I don't see an error message, nothing. I got an Ipod nano for Christmas and I can't use it because it needs iTunes 7! Has anyone had this problem? I've read so many threads and topics here but I haven't seen any answers to this one!
I've tried reinstalling it and deleting it and reinstalling it. I've also just tried updating using the Apple Software Updater (instead of downloading from the Apple website) and it gives me an error. Hmmm... I guess I should figure out what that error says too. But anyway, I need help!

So I've realized that iTunes needs service pack 2 for
XP, and I have 1, so I'm trying to download it, but
that's not working either... I wonder if you know
windows as well as apple? I have to turn the Active
x controls on and this tool bar is to appear so I can
do that but I can't get it to appear. I've tried
raising the security settings but nothing appears...
interesting.................what is service pack 2 and where can i find it? My itunes still flickers on and off when i attempt to use it. .. and how do i get to the active X controls so that i can adjust them? Thank you guys so much for your time and assistance :-D

      Windows XP

can you check something for me please?
reboot the PC. bring up your Task Manager, and click on the "Processes" tab. now try to launch itunes again.
does an "itunes.exe" process appear in the Processes tab? if so, does it persist in there or does it disappear after a few seconds?

  • ITunes still won't open after latest updated to fix it.

April 19 update was supposed to be a fix for apps that wouldn't open, but it didn't work. I still have to open iTunes with the terminal.

According to multiple reports on this site, Apple Support has given the following instructions to others who had a similar problem. I can't confirm that this procedure works or that it's necessary, but it won't leave you any worse off than you are now.
    First, back up all data.
Select the iTunes icon in the Applications folder and open the Info window. Click the padlock icon in the lower right corner to unlock the settings.
In the Sharing & Permissions section, change the Privilege setting for each Name in the list to Read & Write. Close the window. If the settings aren't visible, click the disclosure triangle on the left so that it points down.
You should now be able to drag the iTunes application to the Trash and empty. Your iTunes data won't be affected.
Click the iTunes link at the top of this page, download the installer package and run it.
If iTunes still doesn't launch, or if you can't complete the procedure, reinstall the OS.

  • ITunes STILL won't open on Windows...help please?

    So, I am pretty frustrated.
I downloaded the lastest version of iTunes 7.2 a few days ago, and after installing it, I kept getting Symptom B as mentioned in the announcement above, "If iTunes 7.2 won't open or stay open on Windows..." posted by Roy B: my iTunes library gets updated after opening iTunes but only gets to about 80% until it becomes unresponsive and I have to close it. I tried the suggested solution one, but then as it's importing, it freezes and becomes unresponsive again. And I would try solution two, but I don't know how to revert back to the last version I was using if it's been replaced by the faulty one...Please help, I'd greatly appreciate. Thanks!

Which version of Windows do you have? I have a similar problem ... "iTunes has stopped working". I have some diagnostic info in my windows logs if any one could use them?

  • ITunes won't open, QuickTime error message

By accident, I deleted QuickTime, and can now not open iTunes, so I downloaded QuickTime again, recieved a message that QuickTime has been successfully downloaded, but when I try to open/run it, I get this error message:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ContentIE5\TYMNQEZC\Quicktimeinstaller[1].exe is not a valid Win32 application"
I am a computer illiterate, Please help me!

hmmm. let's try an alternate technique for swapping out your QuickTime that doesn't involve redownloading an installer.
first let's just make sure your previous QuickTime is thoroughly gone.
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

  • Itunes 7 won't open, no error message, also another new strange problem

I found a thread for this awhile ago and followed it and it worked. However, I can't find the thread again, and after I restarted my computer, itunes once again would not open. I'm not getting any error message, just a brief moment with the hourglass symbol up and then nothing. So far I have uninstalled all itunes/quicktime products from my computer and reinstalled a few times, but nothing seems to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

some preliminary questions aimed at narrowing in on possible culprits.
    (1) do you have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed on the PC?
    (2) try launching your QuickTime. does it:
    (a) launch perfectly fine?
    (b) fail to launch with an error message? (if so, what does it say?)
    (c) exhibit other peculiar behavior? (if so, could you describe it for us?)
    (3) reboot the PC. bring up your Task Manager, and click on the "Processes" tab. now try to launch itunes again.
does an "itunes.exe" process appear in the Processes tab? if so, does it persist in there or does it disappear after a few seconds?

  • I downloaded Itunes 7.0.1 and itunes still won't open

Neither iTunes 7.0.0 or 7.0.1 will open for me. Basically, I install everything without any errors, go to run the program, get the windows thinking hourglass for about 3 seconds and then nothing.
I can get 6.0.5 to still work but I can't access the music store and I haven't been able to since a week before they introduced 7.0.0. I am so frustrated with Apple and iTunes right now...
    -Patrick

I actualy was able to fix it. Here is a copy of the post I put up about fixing it:
Ok, like many of you, I was also getting iTunes to hang when plugging in my shuffle, and it would just sit with the spinning beach ball. Even after an hour, it was still frozen. Well, I just fixed mine.
I went to check the Library File to see if it was too large or something, and I found my Music folder wouldn't open, and when it did it showed 0 items, yet iTunes was still playing songs. So I ran TechTool Deluxe on it (it came with your APP if you bought one). Anyway, it found Volume errors on the music drive. So I backed up the music folder to another drive, and let TechTool repair the errors. When it was done, I ran it again, no errors. I then opened iTunes, plugged in my shuffle, and it instantly grabbed new songs via Autofill and sync'd. So, I think the iTunes installer is causing errors to the volume, which is causing the hang ups. TechTool was able to fix the errors, and now iTunes runs fine. Hopefully that will help a few of you get yours working again.
For the record, I store my music on my secondary internal drive, and keep the library in my user folder on the boot drive. After running the fix, everything appears to be just fine, and from what I can tell I lost no data.

  • Itunes just won't open.No error message or anything,it just simply won't open when i double click the icon.Plz help!

    Thanks in advance!!

Its alright I forget some details when I post a question too, anyways.... sounds like some file has got corrupt or theres a PC glitch.
As with many post covering simliar issues about iTunes not opening, first try uninstalling Quicktime and reinstalling it.
Also make sure your anitvirus is turned off or disabled when uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes and qicktime. Follow ALL the steps at the link below

  • ITunes store won't open after Update - NO Error message!

    Hello everyone!
This morning I updated my iTunes to 11.1 upon being prompted (when I tried to connect my new iPad Mini). I run Mac OS X 10.6.8. The macbook also updated other softwares (auto update). I restarted my laptop, and now the iTunes just won't open. The first time I click it in the dock, the icon would just bounce thrice before settling down, and then nothing happens. Upon clicking again, it would bounce just once, but nothing opens. There is no error message either.
I have tried restarting, and also tried software update for the OS. I have checked the parental controls and administrative powers for the user.
    Kindly help!

Jason,I used the troubleshooting link you gave and so far have 1.Fixed Digital Signing for Windows drivers.(didn't help) 2.Removing Itunes configuration files.
In this one I was told to delete the SC info.sidb file (I didn't have one of these when I got to the folder where it was supposed to be)The thing I haven't done is the mscofig.instruction. I was saving it for last as it sounded like it could really make a lot of changes to my computer. The Itunes installation icon is still on my desktop so I clicked on it and there was a link that said it would repair missing or damaged files in the Itunes software. It didn't help either. I can click on Itunes all day long and it won't open.I can't access the library either. I am going to do the last step you suggested and uninstall my security software and see if that helps. I appreciate all the help Jason.

  • ITunes won't open - unknown error

I upgraded to iTunes 5.0.1 and since then when I open iTunes it goes to the license agreement and when I click agree I get a message saying it can not be opened and an unknown error occurred. I have repaired permissions and it still won't open. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem. Thanks!

Richard & Walter, welcome to the Apple Discussions...
try this, open the iTunes folder in your Music folder and select the iTunes Library file... type command-D to duplicate the file... put the original on your desktop and edit the name of the copy to be the same as the one you moved to desktop... after edit double/click on the file...
come back and let's know how you get on .... TP
