ITunes stopped organizing music folder

I have iTunes set to organize music. All of a sudden, when I put a tune into the music folder and click it, it appears in iTunes and plays, but a new folder is not created and it stays in the main folder. In the Preferences screen, Advanced, General tab, the box next to Keep iTunes folder organized is checked.
How can I get it to resume organizing?

After doing an OS update, now iTunes stops playing music after playing a few songs. Any thoughts about how to remedy this?

Same Problem here. Also, when this happens, it loses whatever album art was playing before. I've tried reinstalling and it doesn't help. Any ideas how to fix this? It's really annoying!

  • Organizing Music Folder is adding multiple track numbers

When "Keep Music Folder Organized" is checked in Preferences, file names are prefixed with track number. I think there used to be a way to prevent that but I can't find it in the current version (8.2). I could live with the track number prefix, but I now have several cases of the track number being repeated. Here's an example: "1-02 1-02 1-02 Where Did Our Love G". Note that the song name was truncated when the prefixes were added. It hasn't happen to all my tracks, but seems to have happened mostly to those that were imported from .WAV files that I copied from vinyl. Is there a way to prevent this? Is it an iTunes bug? Is there an easy way to remove the prefixes in bulk?

    Success! From this thread...

    see turingtest2's note.
The part missing that I know works on Macs and may work on Windows, is AFTER you perform that hack, open preferences click on the Advanced tab and then UN-check "Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized", then click OK which dumps you out of preferences. Now open preferences again, and reselect (check) the box for "Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized" and click OK to get out of preferences. On a Mac, at this point iTunes will go through your whole library and fix all the file names to remove the track numbers in front of the song titles in the media files themselves.

  • How Can I Stop My Music Folder From Being Created...

I have installed and successfully migrated my iTunes to a NAS...the problem is that everytime I start iTunes it recreates the My Music folder on my local hard drive...as (a) I no longer need or want this folder and (b) I find it both annoying and potentially confusing that ut appears, is there any way to stop it from being recreated time after time...
    Thanks so much...

Must be missing something in description. My Music folder is from Windows not iTunes. iTunes places its content in iTunes folder inside My Music folder. As for not using the folder I don't think you can. The iTunes library file(itl, xml) are put into iTunes folder inside My Music folder.

  • How can i move the itunes appdata from music folder to another folder?

I want to get rid of all the database files in my music folder as other applications scan this folder for new music and it takes them forever to scan the itunes folder in the music folder because of all the folders for artwork etc.
i thought that is what the %username%\appdata folder is for?!
the help documents on the apple page just show me how to move my music, which is in the right place, but not the database xml and covers...

Move the iTunes Library elsewhere, launch iTunes with the Shift key held down, and point it there.

  • Why is Itunes cluttering my music folder with system files?

Ok i was using windows 7 before this and it was fine. Then i reformatted my drive and put windows 7 again. Downloaded latest itunes v9 and installed. Copied my entire music library backed up on my external hd and copied it to the music folder under the libraries section. In windows 7 the "my music" folder under user>documents and settings is actually the same as the "music" folder in the libraries on your pc. The music folder in libraries simply can compose of multiple folder so it simply displays all the contents of the "my music" folder and can also include other folders.
Anyhow itunes screw up indexing my library but thats a whole problem of another sort. The main issue is that after it sees my music library and after I have downloaded something it does this. http://img169.imageshack.us/i/65030372.jpg/
In that link as you can see in music under libraries it just leaves all those system and downloaded files. There actually ends up being hundreds after it gets album/song artwork since each artwork picture comes up as a ict2 file.
However if i go to the my music folder in documents and settings it neatly tucks away all those files into their respective folder in itunes media or artworkd, despite the few core library files. http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/5956/55950795.jpg
AT the moment i have deleted all the music in my library. Deleting those system files simply makes itunes no longer see an library. I have tried reinstalling with no avail. Why is it putting everything in folder in my music but not doing the same in music-libraries which is the same identical folder.

This is just a thought, because I've not played with Windows 7, but near the top of your 1st image it says *Music Library, Includes 2 Locations*. I think you're looking at a view there which will display the contents of all possible music storage locations and the contents all of their subfolders, i.e. like a search result box. The other image corrsponds to a regular folder layout. iTunes stores an Album Artwork folder inside the main iTunes folder along with it's main database and a number of other supporting files. These files are required for iTunes to work so you can't just delete them. If you want to look at your media folders the use Windows Explorer to look inside *iTunes\iTunes Media*.

  • Itunes not organizing music

When i add songs to itunes it doesnt put them in a folder by artist and album.
it just puts them in the itunes music folder.
i have the setting that makes itunes organize music checked.

Fill in the Album Artist (Sweeney Todd) for all those songs.

  • Transferring music to new mac air using external drive: next steps after copying iTunes file to music folder?

I've followed instructions to consolidate, copy to external drive, then copy iTunes folder to Music folder on new mac air.  so...
    1. what do I do with original iTunes folder?
    2. how do I get iTunes to read/ingest playlist and songs?

Exactly what steps did you follow?
    1. what do I do with original iTunes folder?
    It's on your old computer.
What do you want to do with it?
    2. how do I get iTunes to read/ingest playlist and songs?
If you copied the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to /Music/ on new computer then you simply need to open iTunes.
Since it is the exact same library, everything will be there as it was on old computer.

  • ITunes stops playing music chronically...

I've noticed over the past few iTunes update releases that chronically stops playing music for no apparent reason. So I have to go back to iTunes to hit the PLAY button again and again... is someone aware/working on this chronic problem?

One of the not-so-long-ago releases of iTunes apparently caused the play logic to change. There are cases now where play stops at the end of the current song, where I am pretty sure it would not have stopped under the old logic. I haven't quite put my finger on it, but it may have something to do with changing playlists during play.

  • Discrepancy Between iTunes and My Music Folder

Didn't really know how to word this but at the bottom of my iTunes it says I have 10,345 songs and it's 45.58 GB
but when I click on the properties of the folder where my library is, it says I have 10,829 files and it's 46.25 GB
    where's the discrepancy coming from?

Itunes is only showing you the amount of songs/videos ect. Your music folder has other files like downloaded album art files.

  • ITunes Stopped thec Music

When I sync'd my ipod touch using the latest iTunes all my music was deleted.  Although I contacted customer service and did all the tricks in the several document ts they referred me to, I have been unable to load any music.  The iTunes software on neither of my laptops, one with Win 8 the other with Win XP would not sync. Music to the ipod.  Anyone having the same problem?

You can only sync all media from one iTunes library/computer. If you sync to another one the media on the iPod will be deleted and replaced with what is in the library of the second computer/iTunes library.
You can however, sync music and videos from any iTunes library if yo use the manual method of syncing

  • ITunes stops playing music after 20 seconds

Hi there, after upgrading my os to Mac OS 10.5.1 and iTunes 7.6, iTunes stops playing my tunes after about 20 seconds. I have no idea why this is happening???

Try deleting the cache. Go to User Name>Library>Cache. Locate the iTunes cache file and delete that file.

  • Sharing one organized music folder with different computers

I have one mp3 folder which is organized by itunes running on, lets say, computer 1. the mp3 folder is on the computer 1.
now there is a second computer, computer 2, running itunes and is connected via ethernet.
how can i use itunes on both computers now?
I want to import music on computer 2 and then see the imported files on computer 1 and vice versa.
I see all the files on computer 2, but silly me.. i said computer 2 to also organize the same folder, now computer 1 doesn't find any files any more. how can i fix this elegantly? all the files are still in the very same place, but itunes on computer 1 doesn't find them.
    thanks for some help!

please let me know if this is an impossible thing for itunes or not.
if it is not then i don't know the key word or the name of the function.

  • ITunes crash on music folder import

Did an erase & reinstall on my G5. Saved music files (iTunes Music) on external drive. Dragging and dropping that music files folder (iTunes Music) into a newly installed, updated & empty iTunes library tab. Copying of files executes until approx 50% finished then iTunes crashes. Repeated three times same result.

If it's only a problem on your account, it could be a corrupted 'CD Info.cidb' file.
Locate it in ~Users/YourUsername/Library/Preferences and drag it to the desktop.
    Run iTunes and try again.
More info about this file in this article.
    Hope this helps.
