ITunes stopped recognizing certain files

I downloaded a CD a long time ago. It has been playing in iTunes quite happily for several months now and I have a few songs from the CD on my iPod. Today for whatever reason iTunes decided to stop playing the songs altogether. They would still appear in my iTunes but they just would not open. I eventually removed the songs thinking it was just a stupid issue and tried to add them again but iTunes just would not recognize them. The files are MP3s and are not protected, I can open them fine in Windows Media Player. I eventually burned the songs to a CD and imported them into iTunes and they seem to work fine. I still want to know what's going on in case it happens again. I'm currently using iTunes 7.3 if that helps.

I got them using Bittorrent. I don't see how that would be the problem since they worked for a long time and then all of the sudden iTunes decided it wasn't going to recognize them. It recognizes the exact same files just burnt to disc though.

  • FCE 4 Suddenly Stops Recognizing Certain Files It Previously Recognized (File Error: Unknown File)

FCE 4 has suddenly stopped recognizing certain files that it has recognized without a problem for the past several years I’ve used the program. It won’t recognize 1920x1080 mp4, but it WILL recognize 1920x1080 mov and it WILL recognize 1080x720 mp4. All .h264 codec. Using AIC 1080x60i in FCE. It also won’t recognize .jpg or .tif. There was no software update that could have thrown this off. It was a working one day, not working the next kind of situation. Files play fine in QT. Reinstalled the program. I still get the same File Error: Unknown File. Any ideas?
    Thank you!

Have you tried trashing uour FCE preferences? That is usually the first step when FCE begins to act in unexpected ways. Reinstalling the app will not overwrite existing preferences - you need to trash them.
You can download Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion (free) and it will do all the work for you. Do a Google search.

  • Does anybody know what to do when iTunes stops recognizing Apple TV 1st generation?

Does anybody know what to do when iTunes stops recognizing Apple TV 1st generation? Apple TV works fine, MacBook works fine, but iTunes doesn´t see the Apple TV under Devices anymore.  From what I read, it´s happened to lots of people. Is there anything at all to do?

  • ITunes stopped recognizing iPhone 4S, iPad when I upgraded to 11.1

Once I upgraded to iTunes 11.1 today, iTunes stopped recognizing my iPhone 4S and iPad 2.  Windows still recognizes them.  The recommendations in the "iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes" support topic didn't work.  Any ideas?"

  • ITunes stopped recognizing my iPhone after upgrading to Leopard.

I recently upgraded from Tiger to Leopard, and iTunes (8.0.2) stopped recognizing my iPhone while iPhoto still works with my iPhone (I was able to download photos from my phone using iPhoto).
    What's going on?
It's crazy! When iPhoto recognizes my iPhone, either iTunes or iSync doesn't reads the phone. It doesn't even give any error messages.
I did every solution I found on the net. Repair permission, Remove Local folder in Library.. etc..etc.. none of them worked.

After upgrading from Tiger (10.4.x) to Leopard (10.5.0=>10.5.6), my iPod Touch is no longer recognized by iTunes 8.0.2. The iPod Touch no longer appears in iTunes' "source list" (left side pane in iTunes' GUI).
Immediately prior to that upgrade, my iPod Touch was working great with Tiger (10.4.x). iTunes 8.0.2 recognized it (listed it in sources) and always synchronized with it successfully.''
My iPod Touch is also not shown in the Finder. However, it does show up as recognized in iPhoto.
Any ideas on how to get the iPod recognized again in iTunes under Leopard?

  • When I try to restore my iTunes library from DVD, iTunes stops copying the files after some minutes

On 2 of my 9 DVDs, iTunes stops copying and I can't do anything with iTunes anymore. I have to reboot my computer. So I'm not able to bring back all my files. Has anyone got help?

Thanks but I already did read all of the help notes, which aren't very helpful for this.  I did find out the problem- Apple.....they evidently changed one of the major upsides to their old software- being able to back up your entire library onto dvd's- so you can longer do that or restore from the dvds created from older versions of itunes.  I suspect greed is at play in that Apple now wants you to pay $24.95 per year to use a "cloud" service where they back it up for you.  I can buy a lifetime supply of back up dvds for one year's worth of cloud.  So I am now looking into other music software as I am Appled-out.  There is no reason for them to take away the back up portion of the software other than to sell you thrir cloud service.  As we have already given them a ton of money for 5 Ipods and a bunch of music, I think we have contributed enough.  Time to look to solutions outside of the Apple money tree.  But thank you for reading and replying.

  • ITunes stopped recognizing my iPhone.

I recently upgraded from Tiger to Leopard, and iTunes (8.0.2) stopped recognizing my iPhone while iPhoto still works with my iPhone (I was able to download photos from my phone using iPhoto).
    What's going on?

I have essentially the same problem with my MacBookPro. I have recently installed Leopard (within the last month); my iTunes is 8.0.2; my iPhone is nearly one year old, not the 3G, but was relatively recently updated to 2.2 (5G77). I have automatic syncing turned off because of another problem with the phone deleting/duplicating/triplicating/etc. all/parts of various contact info, but that is another story as I have been able to manually sync until the Leopard upgrade.

  • ITunes not recognizing my files after move to new Powerbook

Just moved all my stuff over to my new computer (Powerbook G4) using migration assistant and while everything else seems to be working fine, iTunes is not recognizing the folder with all my songs in it, called "iTunes Music" in my iTunes folder in my Music directory. Any ideas why it's not being seen? I'd hate to import them, since I believe iTunes would be making copies of each song.
    Thanks.

Thanks for your response. I'm on iTunes 4.7.1 on a new Powerbook G4 running OS 10.4. I was using a Powerbook G4 rental with OS 10.4.2 that I'm about to return. It's in the process of being zero'd out so I can't check the iTunes version but I think it was running iTunes 4.9, now that I think about it. I guess it was my mistake to think a brand new Powerbook would be running software more recent that a rental.
I didn't do any replacing of the music folder, since I used an automated "mover" program that ran when I first started this machine called "Migration Assistant" or something like that that did an amazing job of moving everything over from the rental to this new one. It was just like I was on the rental--my desktop, applications, dock, and everything else was set up the way it was before, with the exception, it seems, of iTunes.
iTunes started as if it were opening for the first time and looks that way. None of my songs show up, though they're in my user folder in Music > iTunes> iTunes Music, each album in a separate folder inside, including the albums I bought through iTunes. Still, no playlists or songs show within my iTunes application, nor does the "purchased music" category show up at all (typical, I guess, when it doesn't think you've yet purchased anything).
Also in my iTunes folder is:
    - a file called iTunes 4 Music Library
    - a file called iTunes Library
    - a file called iTunes Library.xml
    - a folder called Previous iTunes Libraries which contain an iTunes 3 Music Library and and iTunes 4 Music Library. Both of these are documents, not folders.
I'm hoping there's a way to trick iTunes into seeing this stuff, maybe moving everything out, upgrading and then moving them back in some way? Thanks for the help! Have a kids birthday party in a few hours and hoping to use my iTunes to make some playlists and maybe buy some more songs.
By the way, I have an iPod that I synched to the rental recently. Might be missing some playlists but all the music is on that, too.
    Thanks!
    Bob

  • Why does InDesign CS6 stop recognizing .indd files?

I'm running CS6 on Mac OS X Mountain Lion with my user account set up with Active Directory and I continue to have the same error where InDesign stops being able to open .indd files. I've been having this error happen about every 2nd day for the past 3 weeks. A dialogue message pops up that says "InDesign cannot open CS 5.5 documents" then it won't open any files anymore until the computer is restarted. The program often crashes when I try to quit after getting this error.
I say "stops opening indd files" because it's not an error that occurs with one individual file, and these are always files that I have opened, worked on and re-saved within a half hour of trying to reopen them. It seems to occur when I'm opening, printing and making PDFs from a large series of files (I work in a production studio and can work on up to 100 documents at once).
The files have been built in CS6 (and not carried forward from a previous version), are located on my desktop as I work on them, with links stored on a local file server.
Any ideas on how to fix this? I'd rather not have to nuke my whole user account to find out that the problem persists :/
    Thanks,
    Sarah

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried resetting the preferences and the error re-occurred within 20 minutes of working within InDesign.
Just finished uninstalling CS6, running the CS Cleaner Tool and reinstalling again. I came across this solution in this thread where someone was having somewhat similar file recognition problems with InDesign. We'll see how the new install goes (fingers crossed).

  • ITunes stopped recognizing iPhone 3G S

Today I can't get Itunes to recognize that the IPhone is connected via the USB cable. I tried plugging, and unplugging the cable, tried a different USB port, tried shutting down and restarting the Phone, the Mac. The phone still charges via the USB cable. All software is up to date.
Is it possible that the USB cable has gone bad already? Or... the new IPhone port? Everything else seems to work fine.

I spent time on a support call with Apple this morning, and the issue was resolved. The support person was very knowledgeable and discovered that there was a specific file or process that is part of ITunes that had somehow been deleted. (There is no explanation for this). He then stepped me through removing all traces of iTunes from my computer, and re-downloading and installing iTunes, which resolved the problem.
It is very interesting that the iPhone will not charge from the USB port when this file is missing (besides the iPhone not being recognized by iTunes.)

  • ITunes stopped recognizing my iPhone 4S after upgrading to 11.01

After upgrading iTunes to the latest version 11.01, my iPhone 4S is no longer recognized.  No problem with my iPod.

Having the same problem, iTunes won't sync my music, gets to the last step in the process and just hangs there.
    iPhone 4S on iOS 7
    iTunes 11.1 on windows Vista.
Tried to uninstall/reinstall iTunes but didn't work.
    Recreating the library didn't work.
Tried to sync single album with no luck.
Ensured the sync music checkbox was checked.
Phone has been reset, PC restarted several times.
Unless someone has a better suggestion looks like I will have to restore phone to factory settings and start from scratch.

  • Bug Report: use of Stock Music app causes Droid X to stop recognizing MP3 files

    Here's an interesting one:
At some point within the last week or so, not sure how exactly when, I noticed my phone suddenly stopped playing any MP3 files. Ringtones. Music. All stopped working. When I'd try to play an MP3 file by opening it in either Ringdroid or Astro, my Droid X displayed an error that the audio file type was not supported. Rebooting the phone fixed the issue. The unit was able once again to play audio, but would stop again a short time later. What could be causing this?
My wife and I have identical Droid Xs. I use the Music app and she does not. She has not yet lost any audio capabilities on her device. Based on this, I downloaded the DoubleTwist player and have been using it regularly for 3 days.
My DroidX played all audio files without a problem. It retained all ringtones and notifications and played any MP3 file on demand.
I switched back to using the Music player to play 1 file. Within an hour, my phone had once again failed to recognize MP3 files and had to be rebooted.
Is there a workaround for this?
And will the MotoRizon engineers be fixing this in the rumored forthcoming patch?
    Thanks,
    Mike

Hello sledball. I have read your post and understand your issue with the MP3 files on your device. You will want to perform a hard reset on your device and backup everything on your SD Card and if needed reformat your SD Card.
From the home screen, touch the applications tab(located at the bottom of the display).
    Touch Settings.
    Touch Privacy.
    Touch Factory Data Reset.
    Touch Reset Phone.
If presented, enter the current passcode or draw the unlock pattern
    Touch Erase Everything.
Ive done the hard reset after upgrading to 2.2... and this doesn't help.. My Droid X will still not recognize my mp3's and will change my ringtone to default from time to time...

  • ITunes Not Recognizing Original Files from External Backup

I restored my iTunes library from my old desktop computer, and it's on an external backup. I added the files/folders to my library (some 3,000 songs) but they will only play while the backup is plugged in.
The error said iTunes couldn't locate the original file.
    Am I importing them incorrectly?
In the meantime, I had to factory restore my new laptop. Apple restored my iTunes purchases, but before I restore my library again from the backup, I want to get it right. I don't want to have to plug in the external drive every time I want to play a song.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

You have to select "Copy files to iTunes music folder" under Preferences -> Advanced -> General, or else iTunes will just link to your files. (This means you will have to re-import your songs, though)
    Hope this helps.

  • Downloading Itunes- stops at certain %

I cannot get the newest version of itunes set up to download in order to get it updated- it starts downloading and never gets past 10-12%. The Windows window (that shows the time remaing and progress) sort of freezes up. I have a wireless secure connection that is 54 mbps.

Try clearing your browser's cache & try again. E.g. Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Delete Temporary Files/Browsing History.
