ITunes stopped recognizing iPhone 3G S

Today I can't get Itunes to recognize that the IPhone is connected via the USB cable. I tried plugging, and unplugging the cable, tried a different USB port, tried shutting down and restarting the Phone, the Mac. The phone still charges via the USB cable. All software is up to date.
Is it possible that the USB cable has gone bad already? Or... the new IPhone port? Everything else seems to work fine.

I spent time on a support call with Apple this morning, and the issue was resolved. The support person was very knowledgeable and discovered that there was a specific file or process that is part of ITunes that had somehow been deleted. (There is no explanation for this). He then stepped me through removing all traces of iTunes from my computer, and re-downloading and installing iTunes, which resolved the problem.
It is very interesting that the iPhone will not charge from the USB port when this file is missing (besides the iPhone not being recognized by iTunes.)

  • ITunes not recognizing iPhone 5 iO7 on Windows 7

I have exhausted myself dealing with this problem. My iTunes will not recognize my iPhone 5. I am running Windows 7 64 bit and my computer recognizes the phone when i plug it in, however, my iTunes does not so I am not able to sync any music. I have tried practically everything I have found on the internet to fix this problem and even the people at the Apple store could not help me with my problem. I have uninstalled and installed all Apple related programs, I have insured that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is working correctly but nothing seems to fix the problem. I just don't know what to do anymore because nothing seems to work. I have followed the suggestions contained in the following discussions but nothing seems to work. Thank you for your help.

    Had this problem this morning.
Once in the past had to erase my iphone and reload it.That was unpleasant.
    This morning had the problem,too.
Plugged in my iphone directly into the Imac (not hub) then clicked shut down on the imac.
Pressed the button in the back while the iphone was still plugged in-and when rebooted iphone was visable in itunes.
    Hope this helps.
Thanks so much for your suggestion. I'm using a MacBook Air and I just tried this with my laptop - shutting down the computer all the say (not restarting it) and then booting it back up with the phone plugged in. It didn't work but it was worth a shot! Thank you!

I had this exact same problem and just figured out how to fix it. I had to reload the driver on the iphone5 in order for itunes to recognize the device. Follow the steps here to see if you might need to do the same thing. Once I reinstalled the driver, everything works fine and I'm now able to sync with itunes again.

Thanks for the suggestion, I have seen a TON of posts like mine where this is the solution. Unfortunately, I am on a Mac not Windows so the driver isn't the problem.

  • ITunes stopped recognizing my iPhone after upgrading to Leopard.

I recently upgraded from Tiger to Leopard, and iTunes (8.0.2) stopped recognizing my iPhone while iPhoto still works with my iPhone (I was able to download photos from my phone using iPhoto).
    What's going on?
It's crazy! When iPhoto recognizes my iPhone, either iTunes or iSync doesn't reads the phone. It doesn't even give any error messages.
I did every solution I found on the net. Repair permission, Remove Local folder in Library.. etc..etc.. none of them worked.

After upgrading from Tiger (10.4.x) to Leopard (10.5.0=>10.5.6), my iPod Touch is no longer recognized by iTunes 8.0.2. The iPod Touch no longer appears in iTunes' "source list" (left side pane in iTunes' GUI).
Immediately prior to that upgrade, my iPod Touch was working great with Tiger (10.4.x). iTunes 8.0.2 recognized it (listed it in sources) and always synchronized with it successfully.''
My iPod Touch is also not shown in the Finder. However, it does show up as recognized in iPhoto.
Any ideas on how to get the iPod recognized again in iTunes under Leopard?

I recently upgraded from Tiger to Leopard, and iTunes (8.0.2) stopped recognizing my iPhone while iPhoto still works with my iPhone (I was able to download photos from my phone using iPhoto).
    What's going on?

I have essentially the same problem with my MacBookPro. I have recently installed Leopard (within the last month); my iTunes is 8.0.2; my iPhone is nearly one year old, not the 3G, but was relatively recently updated to 2.2 (5G77). I have automatic syncing turned off because of another problem with the phone deleting/duplicating/triplicating/etc. all/parts of various contact info, but that is another story as I have been able to manually sync until the Leopard upgrade.

  • IMac/iTunes not recognizing iPhone 5s

I have a 2010 iMac running OS X Yosemite (10.10.3) and iTunes 12.1.2.27.  I also have the following IOS devices all running 8.3 of IOS:
    iPhone 5s
    iPhone 5
    iPad Air 2
    iPad Air
iTunes recognizes the iPhone 5 and both iPads every time right away.  It fails to recognize the iPhone 5s 95% of the  time.  I can't point to any logical reason why but occasionally, the iMac/iTunes will recognize the iPhone 5s.  I've been into the genius bar twice.  The phone was recognized both times.  It is also recognized if I plug it into my Windows PC.  It's not the cable or USB port because if I plug in one of my other devices, they are immediately recognized. It's not the hardware of the iPhone 5s because it is recognized by the genius bar laptops and my Windows PC.
I have a support ticket open with Apple and Level 2 is working on it but I thought I'd throw it out here to see if anyone has any suggestions.  It acts like it is a software conflict somewhere in my iMac.  If you have any suggestions other than the standard Apple support doc of try these things when you can't connect, please post them there.   Thanks.

  • ITunes stopped recognizing my iPhone 4S after upgrading to 11.01

After upgrading iTunes to the latest version 11.01, my iPhone 4S is no longer recognized.  No problem with my iPod.

Having the same problem, iTunes won't sync my music, gets to the last step in the process and just hangs there.
    iPhone 4S on iOS 7
    iTunes 11.1 on windows Vista.
Tried to uninstall/reinstall iTunes but didn't work.
    Recreating the library didn't work.
Tried to sync single album with no luck.
Ensured the sync music checkbox was checked.
Phone has been reset, PC restarted several times.
Unless someone has a better suggestion looks like I will have to restore phone to factory settings and start from scratch.

  • ITunes 10.1 repeatedly stops recognizing iPhone 4

Since the iOS 4.2.1 update I am having issues with iTunes 10.1 recognizing the iPhone.
I already re-installed iTunes once, because it seemed to be the only thing that worked.
Worked fine, but now a couple of days later I am plugging in my iPhone and iTunes doesn't recognize it. iPhoto pops up (wants to transfer photos) but not iTunes.
Anyone having the same problem? I don't want to re-install iTunes everyday

does anybody know why does that concern only syncing of MP3s? or what is the solution to this?

  • Windows 7 x64 bit and iTunes not recognizing iPhone 3GS

    Hello,
I'm sorry to bring this up again and I know the community has seen it a million times but I'm definately needing someone to point me in the right direction. I have an Acer 5552 Laptop with Windows 7 x64 bit. It does not have the Intel P55 chipset as what I have read before in these discussions, so updating the BIOS will not work. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes x64 bit, removed and reinstalled the drivers and Apple Mobile Support software (which should do it by removing iTunes as a whole) and whenever I hook my iPhone to my laptop for a second sync it takes a long time to back up and then it gives an error, then when i try to connect it again iTunes says that the iPhone cannot be recognized and needs to be restored. I have done this 3 times in the past 2 months. This is a brand new laptop that I have. There should be no reason for this to happen unless I'm missing something. Is there any workaround to this? for the time being I'm syncing everything on an old, slow desktop that has Windows XP. It's worked with my old laptop which had XP on it great but sadly I gave my old laptop to my dad which he now uses to sync his iPhone with now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated..also if anyone has the same laptop model I have and have Windows 7 x64 on it..please let me know what you did if you got your 3GS to sync all the time with no problems.
    Thank you very much.

    4 days and no response...really??

  • New Mac Air stopped recognizing iPhones as cameras

I bought a Macbook Air (running OS X Mavericks 10.9.4) in mid-June and took it to Europe with me. All was working fine, and I was regularly plugging in my iPhone 5s (as well as my wife's 5s and my daughter's 4) to pull photos into iPhoto. No, we don't use PhotoStream/Cloud, for various reasons.
At some point a few weeks ago, I plugged in my iPhone to upload a new batch of photos, and... well, nothing happened. IPhoto didn't pop up with new images, or any indication that there was a camera roll attached.
I tried with my wife's 5s -- same problem. Nothing appeared.
I tried with my daughter's 4, same problem. Found a couple other people and tried *their* phones. Nothing.
I tried swapping out the cords -- nothing.
I looked online, and saw that using Image Capture was suggested by Apple as a next step -- so I fired that up, but once again, it doesn't see any iPhone as a camera. It just says "No camera or scanner connected."
Yes, the phones ARE recognized in iTunes. It can see it, access it, give all the info, etc. All good there. It just
So it's clear to me that it's NOT any of the iPhones, or the contents of their camera rolls, etc, because it doesn't work with *anyone's* iPhone.
And the fact that it once *did* not that long ago leads me to believe that some setting, somehow, somewhere, got switched. I just have no idea what that setting could be.
I'm a long-time PC user who finally made the jump to Mac and loving many aspects, but my knowledge base on how to get in and fix things is sorely lacking.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi there emg72,
The first troubleshooting steps I would suggest for this issue would be to reset your SMC on your MacBook Air:
