ITunes stopped seeing my address book

I've looked all over support and can't find what I need. My Contacts list will not sync in iTunes to my iPod. It used to, so it's merely outdated, but I couldn't tell you when it stopped. In iTunes, I can click Sync and All Contacts on and off (Selected groups does not seem to be an option) and Apply over and over again, but my contacts don't actually update. I tried restarting iTunes, restarting Address Book, no change.
Do I need to reinstall something, and if so, what?
MacBook 2.16GHz Duo
OSX 10.4.11
iTunes 7.6.2
iPod 5th Generation 60GB

Figured it out myself, I suppose. Contacts in iTunes doesn't allow me nearly as much flexibility as Address Book. Got custom labels for phone numbers or emails? Too bad. Got two different home addresses for one person -- street and PO Box? Too bad. Name one as home and one as work, or it doesn't show up. Does the iPhone have this limitation too? I will probably buy one before the year is out, but this is kind of annoying.

• ITunes not seeing Windows Address Book or Outlook 2003

When I try to sync my iPhone, it syncs the music, videos, etc, but under the Info tab in iTunes it doesn't show me any options to sync my contacts with, nor bookmarks, nor calendar, etc. I have Outlook 2003 with all the proper iTunes add-ins activated as well as Windows Address Book, but iTunes simply doesn't seem to see that I have these programs installed on my computer and that I can sync my iPhone with them! Anyone else has similar problems?

Yep,
the first time I got sync probs, I also researched with the root cause is syncing. I tried just everything. It turned out, that address book is just not handling the contacts with all their data entries very well. .MAC, the iPod and the address book itself have all different capabilities to work with the extremly flexible way the contacts are saved. It basicly just works good if you have typed every contact manually into the address book or if they where imported with a very basic set of parameters (e.g. just name and address). Once they are imported from a different software and every contact has a full set of data, Apples address book is overstrained immediatly. And nothing improved thru years. I am starving for a third party application which integrates as good as Apple address book and is working as it is promising to.
When I just started with Mac, the address book probs almost made me resell my first MAC and get back to Linux or whatever.

• ITunes can't see my address book to sync

I have a MacBook running OSX 10.4.9 and iTunes 7.2. On either my 1st gen or video ipod, when trying to turn on contact syncing I get the message:
No contacts available
Contact syncing cannot be enabled because there are no contact available. Do you want to open the address book and create contacts now?
There are options to cancel or open address book only. When I open my address book there are all of my contacts and nothing appears to be corrupt. I have tried to even backup my contacts and empty the address book to sync an empty address book, but it give the same message. My only thought is that I started to have random problems when I tried using file vault encryption and had to turn it off. Maybe some file path problem crept in. Any ideas?
Chris

Mine is doing the exact same thing, and nobody on any of these threads has had any luck fixing it yet, so far as I can tell. iSync is worthless since it simply won't see the ipod and basically is not used at all now as .mac is done through its own preference window. What did work for me, and was quite easily done, was to just open your ipod through the finder and delete the vcard data in the contacts folder. Export your contacts from address book as a vcard to that contacts folder on your ipod, and it all works fine.
Still won't sync...but at least this only takes a minute to do. I'd like to actually fix it though.

• How can I stop a shared address book from duplicating groups?

Hi,
in our company we want to have one central address book, because we basically all contact the same people.
What I did was create an account on my Mac Mini Server and added that users address book to everyones addressbook app.
The problem I have now is that regularily all groups we have are duplicated, simply by opening the addressbook on a second machine.
Is there a better way of sharing an address book?
How do I stop the duplication of addresses?
(All machines are Mountain Lion!)
Thank you for any tips!
All the best

• ITunes 7 not syncing Address Book with 2nd Gen Nano or 5th Gen iPod

I try to 'tick' the contacts, but it keeps saying "No contacts in your address book". Only there is - lots of them.
iTunes syncs everything else, including calendars, but refuses to sync contacts.
Any ideas?

Well, I've just had the OS re-installed for the third time and it appears to be working again. For now...

• Why can't I see my address book contents in Icloud?

I was under the impression that the contents of my address book would migrate across to iCloud! I have the iCloud account selected under 'Preferences' in my Address Book and I have deleted and added my iCloud account to also try and activate the migration, but to no success. Really now questioning why I am paying for an iCloud account when it does not do what it appears it should do! I have 2 macs running currently: an IMac and a Mac Book Air, both running Lion 10.7.3; I have dleted the iCloud account on my MacBook Air to just try and run the migration on the IMac, but again no joy. Somebody (preferably a MAC employee as you guys are the ones that should be helping) help me please? Thanks.

Music is not backed up in iCloud.
If you have iTunes Match enabled it is stored online by that service but iCloud is not involved.

• Itunes stops responding during address update

I have Windows 7 Enterprise. My iTunes app was updated this morning. So here is what I do... Launch iTunes > Store > View Account > Edit Billing address > iTunes stops working.... OVER and OVER again...
I have turned off my AVG software, I have added the recommened sites to the Trusted domain list. I have uninstalled and installed and repaired iTunes. Still the exact same issue.
Any help would be nice.

I followed the instrucstions to delete the .ssidd and .ssibd files this did not correct the problem.

• Help! iTunes not working with Address Book

I have the latest iTunes and the newest version of Adressbook.
When I go to Sync my iPhone 4. The Address Book Groups that appear in iTunes (under the INFO section) are not the same as the groups in my Address Book program.
I tried deleting all the contacts off my iPhone and then re-starting the computer and then restoring them, but iTunes will not pull the new Groups into the program. iTunes just continues to display the old Groups that no longer exist in Address Book (because I have deleted them) nor will it show the new Groups I've created.
Is there a way to reset this area? Or wipe out the preferences. I don't want to lose by iPhone backups.
Thanks.

Apple Store said the only soluction was to wipe computer clean and re-install system from original disks and restore from back-up.

• ITunes' iPod preference missing Address Book Groups

Just got an iPod Touch. When I first synced the ipod all of the contacts were from my Entourage account. I wanted them from Address Book. When I go in iTunes, under "Devices" and get the preferences for the iPod, I look under the "contacts" section. There are none of my Address book "groups" to select from. iTunes is not recognizing my Address book.
How do I fix this?

The Mac specialist over the phone said that my iPod was malfunctioned and needed to be sent in. It ends up that the iPod touch has a few limitations that other iPods I've owned do not have. While my 80 gig video ipod would show all my groups, the iPod touch would not. After about two days of playing around I found out that once I eliminated some of my groups they appeared in iTunes preferences. I don't have an exacts count but I think more then 15 groups is too much for iTunes.
Problem solved.

• ITunes doesn't sync address book with contacts

Syncing IPad2 with IMac address book doesn't update groups and contacts on IPad.

If you're using Mobile Me, you can try this: On the iPhone, go to Settings > Mail, Contact, Calendars > Account Name. Turn OFF contacts syncing. The in iTunes on the computer, view the Info tab on the iPhone item page. You should now be able to check the Sync Address Book checkbox and then click the Sync button. This might work with non Mobile Me accounts too.

• Desktop Manager Doesn't See Any Address Book Contacts or Groups

Hi,
The title says it all.
Version 1.02 or 1.03 fo DM fails to see any contacts on my computer.
No errors.

I hate to respond to my own thread.
Has anyone else seen this??
I have two machines, a Mac Mini and a MB Pro, both running 10.6.3 and DM fails to see any contacts in my address book to sync.
I get no errors.

• Suddendly (no external shock) Thunderbird stopped finding the address book, but it finds the right addresses when sending a mail with a name existing in the Boo

The phrase is all what happens. If ask for the address of, say, Joe (existing in the book), it gives nothing. If I write an e-mail message to Joe, Thunderbird inserts the correct address to Joe, and if I send it, it goes correctly. The Address book looks "strange" its content (nearly empty) does not correspond to what it was. I am working in Linux Mint 17.1 with great satisfaction fo the rest.
Thanks for helping. Giancarlo.

Thanks for answering,
however I miss what to send you: The address book is missing most of my contacts (they were there, before), but if I send a mail to one of those missing contacts Thunderbird attach the correct address without my intervention: funny. Mau be a virus did that, bu how can I recover the missing address book (hidden somewhere, certainly). I cannot show in a screen copy the facts I describe here. Anyway I enclose the screenshot of the opening of the actual address book. Please ask me any useful question on the above.
Again thank and greetings,
giancarlo.

• MacBook Pro 17" iTunes can't sync address book with iPad Air

Can't sync between MacBook Pro 10.6 OS ver and new iPad Air (bought 2 days ago) cell 32gig. Have been to Apple shop at Garden City WA, helpful but seems very little knowledge of 10.6 OS. Have attempted upgrade on MacBook to Lion OS, persevered and seemed to work. Except now the MacBook won't boot, even choosing drive unit, just spins the icon. Even left it for a few hours just in case it needed time to sort itself out.
Back to Apple shop first thing in the morning, getting MacBook up and running is first priority followed by syncing address book with iPad. If can't sync guess I'll have to return it as having them communicate is why I brought the iPad, something lighter in my brief case instead of carrying the MacBook around.
It became tiring being told the MacBook was old technology, having spent money with Apple upgrading the MacBook drive & memory to cope with Final Cut and Creative suite.
Any advice most welcome!

Figured it out and it wasn't fun. I watched the console messages as I deleted groups and tried to sync with Mobile Me until no error msg was displayed. Then I restored AB from a back up and proceeded to delete contacts one at a time and check for errors until none were displayed. After deleting about half my contacts under the one group I finally found the one contact. I then did another AB restore, deleted the troubled contact, sync'd fine, then did another backup. I have no idea why that one contact was the problem as everything looked fine. Console msgs only showed a silly number as the contact, not the name, which is why I had to go through all this. But...it's fixed.

• ICal can't see my Address Book card...

When I try to set an email alert to myself iCal tells me:
You must add your own card and email address in Address Book to be able to use mail alarms.
I have an Address Book card with my name on it and my email address. Is there some "offical" designation I need to set for it so that my Mac knows it's my card? Or is there an iCal setting that designates it as such?

I had the same issue. My iCal, Address Book and Mail all worked happily together until I migrated to a new MacBook Pro. Everything was working well until I tried to send an invitation from iCal to other users and I got the same message you did. I was irritated because I DID have a card that was identified as "my" card. But here was the catch: I use Entourage as my preferred email client and use "Mail" only when iCal sends an invitation to an event. Once I set up "Mail" on the new computer, iCal recognized my card and sent the invitation.

• I don't see the Address book when i am forwarding mail

If you open your iTunes, select books from the top left products menu - then drag your iBooks file - not the iBA file - and it should appear on the shelf.
An alternative is to select open File > Add to library> locate and select the iBooks file.
Normal opening process after selecting - the cover shows and the book loads, then it opens the intro page and manual navigation from there.
Previewing from iBA to iPad tends to open the last page viewed/open in iBA. Apple designed the iPad cache to remember your last viewed page and sometimes I found just turning the iPad off and re-starting reverts books back to normal starting!
I use Dropbox... but there are other Cloud storage apps available. I find it easier to to export the iBooks file and drop it into my Dropbox folder.... in moments it is available on the iPad with an option to open it in various apps depending on what you have installed.... I select iBooks and its done with!
I tried the advice from KT to drag and drop ( thanks) and it works fine.
