ITunes stopped updating this podcast..

...because you have not listened to any episodes recently.
How do I fix it so iTunes will download them regardless of whether I listened to one or not?

I don't believe you can. I have one I subscribe to that I tend to listen in big chunks and may not get to for quite a while. What I usually do is just occasionally double-click one or two, just long enough for them to start to play, then stop it. iTunes then thinks you've listened to it. It doesn't distniguish between whether you've listened to the entire thing or not.

  • ITunes stops updating podcasts / iTunes has stopped updating this podcast because you have not listened to any episodes recently. Would you like to resume updating this podcast?

    Hi,
My iTunes is set to automatically update podcasts and keep the last five episodes of each podcast.
However, iTunes appears to stop updating podcasts after several (five?) unwatched episodes and gives me an exclamation mark in the podcast overview. Clicking on that, I get the message: "iTunes has stopped updating this podcast because you have not listened to any episodes recently. Would you like to resume updating this podcast?"
This is not what I intend... and not  what I  told iTunes to do... (at least this my reading of the below settings)
This stopping is rather less then ideal: (1) if I am going away for two weeks, which I often do, I would still like to have the last five days of news, not the last five days of news back from the date I left, (2) I need to click update for approx. 20 podcast on regular basis, (3) my iPhone is synced to iTunes as soon as I come home, if iTunes does not have the podcasts downloaded, they are not copied over to the iPhone, and the iPhone will attempt to download the episodes via 3G next time I play the podcast on the go, (4) I am mainly using iTunes functions, such as smart playlists and podcasts, through another app (Plex, a fullscreen media player) and it is a pain to have to go to iTunes to manually do things. That is why this bothering me...
How can I get iTunes to behave as intended? (From reading through old posts I know that there is a Doug script adressing this problem, which I have just set up, but I would prefer to use internal settings if possible... maybe I am just missing a setting)
    Thank you for your ideas!

Thank you for the response, Roger!
OK, that's how it is then.
The iTunes podcasts settings should be reworded in that case because it suggest something different from what it does. And, of course, it would be ideal for Apple to make this more flexible and allow users to set up their podcast downloads in their way and not be so motherly (c'mon, Apple, your users are not as dumb as you think, and they have uncapped Internet connections these days anyway)...
Btw., for anyone interested, this is external script I am using now:
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=updateexpiredpodcasts
Including the "cron job" setup here:
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/2011/12/updated-update-expired-podcasts-v2-2-and-l aunchd-project/
Cannot tell how well it works because I have just set it up, other members of the forum say it works for them...
If anyone knows of in-app solutions, please share...

  • ITunes has stopped updating this podcast...

I'm curious if anyone has a fix for this ACTUAL iTUNES MESSAGE:
"iTunes has stopped updating this podcast becasue you have not listened to any episode recently. Would you like to resume updating this podcast?"
It seems crazy to me that iTunes would just stop updating my podcasts because I haven't listened in a while. It would be just as ridiculous if Tivo stopped recording TV shows because I haven't watched them in a while. It doesnt mean I dont want to listen/watch in the future.
    APPLE: FIX THIS!

Apple, count me as another user who wants you to do something different here. I would prefer to simply get a message that I haven't listened to a podcast in a while then not have it being downloaded. Especially now with advanced subscription settings that let us change the subscription on a per-podcast basis, this behavior should be changed. Maybe it's already in the queue?
    Suggested change:
Just warn with option to stop warning, but always continue to download as per subscription settings.
I have a number of podcasts that I'm "subscribed to" but I don't listen to as regularly as they are published. However when i'm going to hit the road, I want those episodes there, especially on my ipod. I don't want to have wait for them to all update!

  • ITunes has stopped updating this podcast because you have not listened . .

I found an archived article from two years ago: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8453115 and have found subsequent articles talking about outboard solutions that I have tried and do not work. The problem continues to this day. Why doesn't Apple just fix this themselves?
Exact text of the message, as if it is a mystery: iTunes has stopped updating this podcast because you have not listened to any episodes recently. Would you like to resume updating this podcast?
Yes. Yes. Permanently, yes. Stop asking the question.

Yes. Yes. Permanently, yes. Stop asking the question.
Although you may not like the way it's set up, Apple appears to have done this deliberately and therefore does not consider it broken. I suspect that they do it that way to conserve bandwidth.

  • How can I make sure iTunes doesn't stop updating my podcasts

OK I'm subscribed to multiple podcasts, but I don't always get a chance to listen to them so some of them will stop updating and it says something like "iTunes has stopped updating this podcast because you haven't listened to any episodes lately".
How can I make sure it doesn't do that? When I do get to listen to my podcasts, I would really like it if they weren't 3 weeks old.

someone made a script that fixes this. It seems to work for me. If you want it to do it automatically just make an iCal even for every 3 days or something that runs this script.

iTunes is not reading your feed at all because there is a parsing error in Episode 7:
    <item>
    <title>Episode 7 - How to Invade Africa</title>
    <link>http://thehistoryofpodcast.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/a-history-of-hannibal-episode- 7-how-to.html/link>
There is no '<' in the closing 'link' tag and this is wrecking the feed.

  • "Itunes has stopped updating your podcast" message -- is there away around?

When new podcasts are downloaded into Itunes, I transfer them straight to my ipod. I don't play them in Itunes.
As a result, I have to tell Itunes that I DO want to continue downloading new files - for every podcast to which I subscribe, on a recurring basis.
Seems to me that transferring the file shows signs of interest - same as playing.
Is there a way to set Itunes to treat a transfer to the ipod the same as playing it?

You're right, there is no way to turn off this asinine, infuriating feature. It's this kind of thing that drove me away from Windows and made me so happy when I got a Mac. I felt like I didn't have to fight the Windows Big Brother anticipating my needs and only allowing me to do things in a way that Windows wanted me to.
Anyways, there is a partial solution, although its pretty sad compared to how easy it would be if Apple included a little checkbox in the options menu that said "Do you want iTunes to stop downloading your podcasts if you listen to them in any other way than on iTunes, even if you listen to them on your (Apple) iPod?". Go to http://www.dougscripts.com and check out the NeedleDrop script. It will let you automatically play 1 second or so of each podcast in your directory. You can then tell iTunes to update your podcasts and it will retrieve all of them, as it should anyways. One downside is that you'll have to run the NeedleDrop script every so often to update the playcount of your podcasts. Another downside, if you're a Windows user, is that the AppleScript will only work on Mac.
As a tangent (read "rant"), iTunes is becoming really annoying lately. For starters, the interface has been looking more and more repulsively Windows-esque for the last few versions. Just recently, when I updated to the latest version of iTunes, it took me a week or so to delete the previous version because there was an application called "iTunes Helper" that wouldn't close. It didn't appear in the list of processes on my computer. Finally I found that it was a startup item in my list of startup programs. After disabling it, I was finally able to delete the old version of iTunes. Now iTunes doesn't update my podcasts if I don't listen to them in a way that iTunes deems fit. What is going on? Ugly interface, hidden processes, uncontrollable "features". Is Apple outsourcing their development to Microsoft or something?

  • Page stopped updating 3 podcasts ago

My itunes page stopped updating my podcasts 3 episodes ago and feedvalidator says my feed is valid, also when i enter the feed in itunes under files/subcribe to podcast it pulls in the lasest episodes it just isnt updating on the page. any ideas?

I got to checking to see what the url was that was first excepted by them and it is the one that is working. this is the email they sent me when it was first set up.
iTunes Store Welcome Dear podcast owner, Your podcast feed, [ http://truckersgospelmission.org/?feed=rss2 ] was successfully added and is now under review. Sincerely, The iTunes Store team

  • When will the itunes store update my podcast episodes?

Well, here it is a month now, and iTunes is still not updating my recent episodes in the iTunes store. Yes, I know Subscribers can still get the episodes, and they show on my Podcast App, but for people searching for new Podcasts to listen to, they can't get my most recent (and better) episodes to listen to. I have sent two emails to the podcasts at apple address, and no reply. I see most podcasts have new episodes showing, and now I'm just getting ****** off about it. The fact the engineers 'know about it' and are 'working on it', does little to pacify me after an entire month of this being messed up.
What to do next? I've been patient and trying to wait it out knowing 'eventually' it will be fixed, but for brand new Podcasts this is a very important issue.

I had this problem too, wrote apple and no reply. Finally I wrote libsyn (where my podcasts are stored) and they replied within a day and also contacted iTunes for me and asked them to manually add my last two episodes. iTunes did that within a couple of days, but it took a couple more days for iTunes to show that anyone was downloading those episodes.
Another problem is that I had been on new and noteworthy for my main category and sub-category before. Those usually update pretty regularly too I think - not sure because i only checked them a couple times a week before I started having these problems. Even though I had twice as many downloads yesterday (430) than normal, it didn't change my standing at all on the new and noteworthy chart. I'm in my subcategory, but haven't made it back up to the main category I'm thinking because of this glitch.
If you have any thoughts on whether or not this is affecting our standings in the categories, Roger, I would love to hear them. I realize we can't really do anything about it anyway, but it would be nice to know. Here's a link to my podcast: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-christian-habits-podcast/id899589208?mt= 2
Also, wanted to say how much I appreciate reading all your advice to everyone, Roger! Sorry I'm not putting this new problem in it's own stream, but I wanted to share with Joey what helped for me to get the episodes up.

  • ITunes stops playing songs/podcasts/etc whenever I move my mouse.

I have no idea why this happens but its really aggrivating.

when I move my mouse Itunes stops playing music. Sometimes this happens immediatly and sometime it take 10 to 15 sec.
At various stages over the years, mouse-related iTunes trouble has been associated with driver conflicts. So it might be worth following up on that possibility.
Head to the drivers and downloads page for your model of PC, and check to make sure you're not behind on any chipset and input-device-related driver updates. (And while there, just in case, also check to make sure your BIOS, sound-card/integrated audio, and video-card/display-adaptors are up to date.)
If you're behind on anything, and you update, does that help with the mouse-related iTunes issues?

  • ITunes has stopping updating my podcasts

Recently, my podcasts are not updating across the board. I try to manually update them. The update arrow will circle around for a second and then nothing happens. Been this way since early last week and I know there are new podcasts. I;ve seen them on other sites. Any ideas?

If you have an exclamation mark next to the podcast, click on it.  When you do, iTunes will open a pop-up and tell you that it is no longer downloading podcasts because you haven't read any recently.  It then gives you the option of resuming updates.  You will have to do this to each podcast that this is occurring to

  • ITunes Not Updating my Podcasts

Since Nov 25, 2008 our sports podcasts are no longer updating to our iTunes podcast page.
Have had no problem for over a year posting almost 300 podcasts.
Does anyone know wht this has stopped?
Is it the new iTunes 8.0.2?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Think I'm duplicating this but anyway...
I've had the same problem with getting podcasts to my students.
I've noticed that if they go directly to the iTunes Store they do NOT see updates; if instead I copy the iTunes Store url and give it to them all of the missing podcasts show up.
But these do not appear as a refreshed podcast as they used to. Do a search for your podcast again and it's back to the old way. I thought this was a temp problem because of low staff levels during the holidays, but it seems to be a glitch. YES, tell giving the students the iTunes store url DOES WORK. Desperate times ask for disparate measures, huh?
    So, I either:
Supply them with the xml and let them look at the page via Safari, Firefox or other browser.
or, to keep my personal xml file private, I also set up the podcast simultaneously on FeedBurner. If you give them the Feedburner link, they can select any number of ways to get the podcast regularly, PLUS, Feedburner keeps track of the number of downloads. Nice.

  • Itunes not updating new Podcast feeds

We have 50 different weekly shows that have been updating fine until this last Monday. Nothing has changed on this end. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Well I'm really glad I have found this, ill tell you why.
I own crankygamersuk.net, now due to my very limited resources I have always gone with a free hosting service, which severely limits my space, meaning I can only get 2 of my podcast on there at a time, consequentially I have to delete the oldest whenever I put the latest one on.
Now I tell you this so you can understand my problem.
So this has been the case for nearly 3 years of my podcast, and not once have we had any problems, until now.
For some unknown reason, people who are subscribed to my cast on there mobile device are only getting to see the last 2 episodes showing up, even though I have put the latest one up, and deletes the old one.
Example, go check itunes now for "cranky gamers uk", and you will see only episodes 91 and 92, and yet last Friday, I deleted 91 from my host, and uploaded 93.
So right now anyone on a mobile device can not get the podcast the way they used to because Itunes is not updating fast enough.
Of course if you go on a PC or Mac, you can right click and select update to receive the latest show.
But that is not good enough, I have many mobile subscribers.
So can someone tell me what the latest situation is, and what the best option is, this is effecting my subscriptions.
Also would you contact support?, if so anyone have best address for inquiries.
    thanks
