ITunes Stopped Working - Apple Pull Your Finger Out And Fix It Please!!!
Okay so this is a similar story to hundreds I have seen.
The other day I opened iTunes (7.0.2) Which has been working fine for years (Obvioously with previous versions).
It opened up and began doing some kind of scan, then closed with the error "iTunes has enocountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconconvenience"
Firstly I figured I might have a corrupted file. So I deleted my iTunes library from my docs and opened iTunes again. It opened fine with no music in there. I added 1 single random file and it immediatley came up with the same error and closed.
Also Quicktime will no longer work, if I double click a Quicktime movie it opens, but when I click play it closes again.
I have done the following:
1) Fully scanned for viruses, spyware etc... my system is always well protected and nothing was found.
2) De-frag, disk scan, registry cleanup and even a roll back to 1 week ago when it worked (which didn't make it work!)
3) Completely removed iTunes & Quicktime, and related codecs and registry entries and re installed latest versions.
4) Completeley removed iTunes, Quicktime, and related codecs and registry entries and installed older versions.
5) Installed latest iTunes with an older Quicktime and vice versa.
6) Followed every single step in every related post on this board from people with the same issue.
Nothing at all works. Right now I have the latest Quicktime and iTunes installed fresh, with no music in my library. If I add even one song it crashes. Quicktime crashes as soon as you press play.
Every other media player on my system works fine and all of my music plays fine in Media Player.
I had a similar experience to you. After reading the various postings on the discussion board, I gave up trying to fix 7.0.1 (or later 7.0.2) and went back to 6.0.5.
I do not have a Nano, so I cannot tell you whether 6.0.5 will work with the Nano or not. However, it works relatively well with my 30 gig video iPod.
I do still have a few problems such as some podcasts (not all) cause the ipod to crash (but there is a manual fix for this problem - see this link for info: http://jimsrandomwalk.blogspot.com/2006/10/ipoditunes-update-is-flop.html)
My feeling on this is that the Apple engineers are not blind to the fact that there are problems. However, until the problems rise to the level of causing Apple some market problems, they don't have to worry about the small percentage of us who have these problems. I will not be buying any iTunes until this all gets worked out.
Good luck with resolving your problems.
See my earlier post on this thread for info on how to go back to an earlier version of iTUnes.

Itunes stops working when I connect my Ipod
I have a 120GB ipod and have had a few problems with it but just minor things that have been easy to take care of. But this afternoon, I woke my computer up from sleep mode and I had my itunes working and all was well but then when I went to connect my ipod, I got a notification from my computer saying that my itunes stopped working, it checked for a solution and didn't find one and then it closed out my itunes. I tried opening it again but the exact same thing happened within seconds of pressing the button to open itunes, my ipod hadn't even come up yet in the left hand bar. I uninstalled my itunes and reinstalled it but the same thing keeps happening. If my ipod isn't connected to my computer then my itunes works just fine but the second it connects, my itunes doesn't work anymore, please help me
I have the same problem! Does anyone know how to help?

All of a sudden my iTunes stopped working, and I get the following error messages:
1. the program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem
and
2. iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126).
Now I've checked the forums and followed the advice of uninstalling all Apple applications, rebooting, and reinstalling iTunes.
This is not working. I've tried installing as Administrator but doesn't make any difference at all.
There must be a way to fix this? I'm not a tech geek but I want to avoid having to take my laptop back to factory settings to sort this out.
ThanksClick here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

Just tryed everything from forums, include unnistall completly itunes and reinstall last version (11.0.5.5).Hello ademirk,
Thank you for providing the details of when iTunes becomes unresponsive. I found an article with steps you can take to isolate and troubleshoot an issue like this (click on the article for your version of Windows):
iTunes for Windows XP: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues

When syncing iPhone with iTunes I get an iTunes stopped working and the network connection timed out message. I reinstalled iTunes and checked settings still no go.
Disable or turn off your firewall, anti-virus, and all security software and try the download again.

My track pad stopped working with a single finger/double click when I try to open emails, and when I try to open apps on desk top. If I use two fingers, and then click open, I can open them. Thank You for your help.
Greetings ascnephew8,
It seems your trackpad isn't working as you expect it to. Have you reviewed the trackpad settings in System Preferences? The following article provides trackpad setting details which may help:
OS X Mountain Lion: Change the way your trackpad works

On Windows 7 with iTunes 10.6.3.25 I cannot subscribe to iTunes Match. In iTunes I click on iTunes Match in the left pane then click the "Subscribe for $25 a year" button. A window that looks like I am going to be asked to login using my Apple ID and password starts to come up but then an error occurs and I get a window that says "iTunes stopped working" then iTunes closes. What can I do ?
I've also read somewhere about using Win Rar to extract files to do with apple mobile device support from the itunes installer file, would you recommend that to? I don't really fancy the idea of doing anything that involves my registry because knowing me I'll end up screwing my laptop up for good lol
It's a little more involved than just doing a standalone AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi install, I'm afraid. The relevant drivers in AMDS are not digitally signed for 64-bit XP, so you have to force XP to accept a driver install that it would try its damnedest to not do. There's no driver issues for other 64-bit componentry in the installer package (I think the GEAR drivers install on XP 64-bit systems), but I believe there's still a bit of fancy footwork involved in getting them installed too ... although it's been a long time since I've looked at an instruction set, and I might not be recalling those things correctly. (So if you're not comfortable with system modifications, it might be best to steer clear of the Orca-based techniques ...) -
I get a message that itunes has stopped working. When I check out why it is because of the dep security on my computer. When I try to find the program for itunes for the .exe file i cannot find it to turn off the dep for that file
I found the file but when I added it to the list for the Data Execution Program to ignore , I received a message that the Program.x86/itunes file must have the DEP on in order to run. Anyone else having this problem ?

Has anyone else had problems since downloading latest update? My iTunes stopped working and mobile device won't download, I now don't have Apple to backup my iphone?
As i've posted in this thread:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=746408&tstart=30
I've tried everything others have suggested without any luck.
Now I'm stuck with a 300 bucks mp3 jalopy.
My big question here is :
why aren't we hearing from apple? why aren't they saying something like "yeah we messed things up but be patient. we are trying our best to fix it..." ?
I was thinking to buy the macbook pro but now I'm afraid of the day things will get messy with that too.

I was in the middle of updating to 7.0.3 and Itunes stopped working. Now my phone is stuck in limbo (apple logo with status bar under) My power button doesnt work (of course) How do I get it back to normal?
I have same issue. I click on the home button and Wake/sleep at the same time for 30 seconds or more and then the phone entered in Recovery mode. It is erasing my content now and installing the update. Let´s see how this ends. I have iCloud, iTunes match, and backups from previos versions, hope I can restore all my content.
Otherwise I´ll go to the Genius Bar to do a checkup.
Good luck!
It did not work the first time... The iPhone4 kept in limbo. Then I did disconnect as suggested above and tried again to enter in Recovery mode. This second time it works. And after restoring the iPhone4 with 7.0.3, it asked me if I want to recover from backup. I did recover from my latest back up and now it is syncing the content. -
purchasing a movie from apple tv has stopped working. I click on "movies" and it takes me back to the same screen instead of the movies available. I have updated software, unplugged the modem & apple tv box, & the tv; Netflix still works!
Welcome to the Apple Community.
First you should try logging out of your iTunes Store account (settings > iTunes Store > accounts) and then back in again.
If that doesn't help, try resetting the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings). You should also try restarting your router.
If both of the above don't help, you should try a restore (Settings > General > Reset > Restore). -
