ITunes stops working when trying to play purchased video

Hey Everyone,
For some reason whenever I try to play a video or TV program that I purchased from the iTunes store it causes iTunes to shut down and it won't play the video. It does bring up the player for a few seconds then just hangs and a few seconds later it pops up a message that iTunes has stopped working. HELP PLEASE. I'm on 7 64 bit.
thanks

many thanks.

Okay. let's first try uninstalling and reinstalling your QuickTime. We'll also take a few other explicit precautions, just in case. Best to print out a copy of these instructions, because at one stage of proceedings you won't be able to use a web browser.
Preliminaries
Download and save a copy of the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file from the Apple Website. (Don't run the install on line and don't start the install just yet. get the installer that doesn't mention iTunes.)
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
*Uninstall phase*
Head into your Uninstall a program control panel and uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we'll remove any leftover program files and folders.
In Computer, open your C drive.
Open the "Program Files (x86)" folder.
Right-click on the "QuickTime" folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
Go back into your C drive (or whichever drive your operating system is installed on).
Open the "Windows" folder.
Open the "SysWOW64" folder.
Right-click on the "QuickTime" file (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
Right-click on the "QuickTimeVR" file (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
Empty your recycle bin.
*Reinstall phase*
Restart the PC. After the PC restarts do not open any applications. Disconnect from your network and/or the internet. Now switch off all your security software (firewall, antivirus, antispyware).
Now start the reinstall by doubleclicking the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file you downloaded earlier.
Reenable all security software prior to reconnecting to the internet and/or your network.
Does the QuickTime reinstall seem to go through smoothly? If so, try launching iTunes again and trying to play one of the affected videos. Do you still get the same iTunes error, or are the files playing properly now?

  • "Itunes has stopped working" when attempting to play purchased video

I have purchased multiple episodes of The Vampire Diaries from Itunes, to which I have already watched. But when I went back to watch them again, it gave me the error "itunes has stopped working". To which, itunes started up again. I tried to click it again, and got the same error message. I have a windows vista. and this problem is really making me mad. Anyone know how to fix this?

I am also having this problem and from the looks of it I'm going to have to sit back(unfortunatly) for an answere to get back to me.
I feel the same frustration as you Krazybald, I've been wanting all day to watch a movie from my purchased movies and cannot.

  • ITunes Stops Responding When Trying To Play Video - Windows 7 64bit

Ok, I've been getting my new Win7 box up and going. Everything is working great with the exception of iTunes.
Setting up iTunes / Quicktime is quick and easy. After a single reboot then launching iTunes and trying to play any video results in "iTunes has stopped responding". Then it shuts down.
If I either, re-install iTunes or Quicktime. Video works again, until I reboot. Then I end up with the same error message "iTunes has stopped responding".
I've ran the test over and over, probably a dozen times. I re-install and all works again, until I reboot. And yes, I scanned for viruses, I've check and rechecked settings.
Can anyone help!? I really want to move everything from my XP machine to Win7, but this one thing keeps holding me up.

PLEASE!! ANYONE! No one has any ideas?

    Hello nicolini,
It sounds like iTunes quits unexpectedly everytime you try to open it so you can no longer use it. I recommend the troubleshooting steps in the following article to help you troubleshoot the issue here, named:
iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues
Start with these steps to open iTunes in Safe Mode to see if a 3rd party app may be interfering with iTunes. There is additional troubleshooting to be done in the article if this is not the case:
    Start iTunes in Safe Mode
Open iTunes in Safe Mode to isolate any interference from plug-ins or scripts not manufactured by Apple.
Hold down Shift–Control while opening iTunes. You should see a dialog that says "iTunes is running in safe mode" before iTunes finishes starting up.
    Click Continue.
See if the issue you're experiencing persists in Safe Mode.
If you have the same issue while iTunes is in Safe Mode, proceed to the "Create a new user account" section. If you don't experience the same issue, follow these steps to remove third-party plug-ins.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

I have Windows 7. This is the first time I have downloaded on this brand new computer. I authorized this computer for iTunes and bought an album. thanks for any help....

Head into your Problem Reports and Solutions control panel (or the Windows 7 equivalent) and open your Problem History. Look for iTunes Problems reports that seemed to occur at the time that you had the Store troubles.
Open the reports and have a look through them. Do they all seem to say the same thing? If so, paste the contents of a typical report into a reply here. (Fingers crossed, that may give us a heads up on the cause of the errors.)

Everytime I try to go into the iTunes Store on my Windows 7 PC I get a popup that says "iTunes has stopped working, Windows will try to find a solution to the problem."

  • Fully updated version of iTunes crashes when trying to play purchased video

i am running iTunes on both my macbook pro and my iMac (both Intel). whenever i try to play the Dark Knight digital copy or a purchased video from iTunes, my iTunes crashes and self quits. i have successfully transfered the dark knight to my iPod and it plays fine. i have no clue why i can't watch these videos. also on a side note, the preview option in Finder also crashes my Finder when i try to watch these videos. any answers? thank you!

There's another thread on here that suggested re-installing iTunes. That works for me (in that the videos play), but I have to re-install iTunes every time I want to watch them which is a pain. So if anyone has a more permanent fix...

  • ITunes suddenly crashes when trying to play purchased music

Everything's been OK (other than iTunes randomly rebuilding my music library every week or so...) I download a song from the music store. It attempts to import it and crashes. I manually find the song and drop it into iTunes, it crashes. I won't even import it. I try to play ANY purchased music, it crashes. I can play non-purchased aac and mp3 files just fine. I'm running itunes 6.0.1

Oh yeah, I forgot to say that i've also trashed my old iTunes and re-installed, and trashed the prefs.
