ITunes store AU. HD movies. What gives?

Just went to buy an HD movie through my AppleTV from the AU iTunes store.
The movie I wanted, Earth, is available to rent in SD & HD but is only available to buy as SD. Not in HD.
I tried to call Apple but after about 15 minutes on the phone was cut off (my fault) & don't have the time to chase it up right now.
Anyone know what the story is here? Is this standard for the AU (or other country) stores that you can only rent not buy HD?
Seems pretty blinkin' silly to me, especially with a title like this that you would want to watch more than once.

I've been trying to figure this out for ages. The same problem also exists for Aust TV Shows. You can't buy anything in HD. Why? Who the h*ll knows........Apple being a control freak? Local content owners not giving a ****?
I'm not buying from the iTunes store until there's some HD content.
Apple you're really missing out on a rvenue stream.

You cannot.
You cannot use another countrys itunes store.
You must be physically locates inside the borders of a country to use that countrys itunes store and a credit card issued in that country with a valid billing address in that country.
The owners of the distribution rights of movies/music/etc differ by country. These distributors decide who can sell their content in that country.
Buy from another source if your countrys itunes store does not carry somehting that you want.

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the Storage display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:

Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

I can only add my XPS M1530 to the list of computers having the problem. I have seen posts back to the beginning of the year, so I suspect it is a problem Apple isn't interested in and it is likely a problem with their DirectX or other video routines gone bad.
Maybe they'll consider taking this as a formal bug and getting it fixed, because coverflow ***** as is while it is dreamy on the iPhone.

The message is tru, the Mac App Store and the iTunes Store are the same store and use the same account. What does the system want you to do?

Try this:
1. Settings>General>Date & Time>Turn off set automatically
2. Set date one year ahead
3. Go back to iTunes and try again.
4. You will get the same error.
5. Go back to settings general date and time and turn back on 'set automatically'

I have been using Apple TV to watch movies on my television set for several months with no problems. The last movie I watched was on Nov. 22/13, but since then every time I want to rent a movie, I am unable to access the itunes store. I get a message saying Unable to sign In and that I should try again later. I have tried about 15 times over 2 days and keep getting the same message. Oddly enough I can actually watch the preview of any movie, but when I go through the process of actually renting the movie, then I get the message that I am unable to access the itunes store. Try running iTunes Diagnostics and pasting the output here.
What firewall software are you running on your computer? Try to set it up again or uninstall it (for testing purposes only).

i can browse trailers, listen to internet radio, and anything else requiring a connection but when i try to rent a move, the progress spiral comes up and simply keeps spiraling with no connect to itunes store. all network connections and settings seem fine and ive used the correct appleId and password.

I just spoke with Cogeco as I am really p**d at the moment. I was able to rent a movie yesterday (that took three attempts) and it downloaded without any issues, but when I went to watch it today all I saw was "authorizing..." for some 10 minutes. I have now reset my AppleTV and cannot get the unit to authorize on the itunes store.
Then my call to Cogeco who after 20 minutes of trying to say it must be my fault or Apples as they do not block anything I stated that I will move my service to another provider and sue they for compensation for the movies I rented they escalated me to a supervisor who said they do not support AppleTV units so it is my problem. I informed him that I will move my service as it is my ISP causing the issue and not Apple he then backed down and suggested sending a ticket in to investigate. He (Richard) said he will contact me this week to let me know if they find anything.
My gut tells me they have broken Apple's DRM authorization with a man-in-the-middle deep packet filter application so I suggested they look at their deep packet inspection tools as something is screwed for people like me trying to use AppleTV systems. Of course they do not have anything like that...
I will let you know what happens but I am going to look at Bell's new fibre option just in case.

I'm not sure if on some thread posted in the last two weeks, someone hasn't already answered the question: Can you download movies [even Pixar shorts] directly to the iTouch?
Or is direct downloading only permitted for getting music from the wifi iTunes store?

Be patient; you know they'll add that eventually, just like how iTunes took awhile before it sold movies.
However, when you think of it, many folks would have a lot of trouble downloading a huge movie file on the Touch without some kind of dropoff or other connection problem...there's been a lot of talk about the Touch's internet connections being spotty.
In short, I don't think the Touch (or the WiFi networks) are ready or robust enough for downloading whole movies, although I agree with you that short films should be available. I would bet that they add music videos first, then shorts...movies probably not for a good while...wait until we start seeing 40GB Touches, and see what that brings...

ITunes Store downloading a movie issues

I bought a movie from iTunes Store and started downloading the whole size into the iPhone and then processing went away and the downloading started again. Fifth time, nothing. I found that the before processing step minutes left are inaccurate and mess up everything. I want to watch Scarface, so I need help to solve that issue with redownloading every time it reaches processing step.

It's not up to Apple. Apple can't provide what the movie studio won't license. Many movie studios are unwilling to license movies for download sale, and some may be willing but unable to offer a given movie due to contractual issues with the actors, director, etc.
If you want to urge someone to offer the Transformers movies, contact the movie studio who owns those movies. It's their decision, not Apple's.
