ITunes Store Crashing My iMac?

For about the past hour, whenever I click on the iTunes store link in iTunes and then click the TV Shows link my iMac crashes. It completely locks up and requires a hard restart and it only happens if I am in the iTunes store TV Shows section.
Anyone else having this problem?

Same problem:
Only occurs while browsing the Apple Store, in the TV Show Section.
The mouse remains mobile, the computer will still start the screen saver and such, but I can't change to any other applications, and I can't force quit anything (CMD-Apple-ESC doesn't do anything). It requires a hard reboot to restore the computer.
I am not using a Mighty Mouse - so that probably isn't the culprit.
This is a new aluminum iMac - not sure if that's a commonality or not.
I just noticed this today, but I don't browse the apple store every day. Perhaps it's related to a recent iTunes update?

do you use the same Apple ID on your iMac, your iPhone and iPad? This is a requirement.

  • ITunes store crashing on iOS7

iTunes store crashes on launch on iOS7 for iPhone 5. Is this a known bug or and is there a fix. Want to give Apple some money in exchange for some music but unable to do so ;-)

Perform a "hard reset" on the device by pressing down and holding the home button and the sleep/wake button for up to 30secs. until you see a black screen with the Apple logo, then release.
Then test to see if it solved the problem.

  • After upgrading to iOS 8.2, my iTunes store crashing after selecting 'Films'.

When I open iTunes store and select 'Films', iTunes store crashes while loading. It is working fine on Music, Search, Tones filters. I think it started happening after upgrading OS to iOS 8.2.
    I am on wi-fi.

    Hello Wexxwoxx,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that after you updated to iOS 8.2, while typing a message your iPhone seems to be locking itself. In this situation, there are a couple of different troubleshooting steps that I would recommend.
First, I would suggest closing the Messages application completely by using the instructions in the attached article below.
Force an app to close in iOS - Apple Support
After the Messages app is closed, I would recommend resetting your iPhone using the instructions in the next attached article. After the reset, open Messages fresh and attempt to use as you normally would.
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
    Have a great day,

  • ITunes, iTunes Store Crashing Issues

When I try to download TV shows I've purchased through the iTunes store, it takes literally days for the downloads. During this time, iTunes repeatedly crashes while downloading, usually after about 5 minutes of file downloading. The download suddenly stops and iTunes is unresponsive and "Quit" does not even appear in the drop down menu when trying to quit iTunes. "Quit" isn't grayed out - it just isn't there at all. Typically, also when this happens, the entire computer becomes completely locked up and I can't even use Force Quit. What ever I try just results in the spinning color wheel which goes on and on. Any one with any ideas? This is very frustrating!

It was an iMac file directory problem. Fixed and reinstalled everything and all is working.

  • ITunes Store Attacked My iMac

For about an hour yesterday my new iMac started crashing, requiring a hard reboot. I quickly realized that this was only happening whenever I used the Mighty Mouse scroll wheel to scroll down the TV Shows page in the U.S. iTunes store.
I was thinking that this might be a bug in iTunes that manifested itself as a result of some problem with the iTunes store. It now appears that the only other people who have had this problem were also using new iMacs. If that's the case, then it would appear to be a bug in iTunes that is only affecting new iMacs when connected to the iTunes store.
Has anyone else in this forum experienced this problem?
(Forum Police please note: I originally posted this message in the iTunes forum but decided to move it here for reasons that should be obvious.)

I am having the same issue with new 24" iMac. Somehow, knowing it's not just me is a relief. I can recreate the issue at will... go into iTunes store, TV shows section, try to browse and lock. It should be noted I am not using Mighty Mouse but a Logitech (not using any Logitech drivers).
Once it locks I can move the mouse around but the machine is completely frozen and remains that way (left it for 1/2 hour one time).
I suppose I could look at it as they're trying to save me money by not allowing me to buy TV shows from iTunes...

  • My iTunes keeps crashing my iMac

I am begining to regert upgrading to Lion. Safari is much slower. iMac crashes almost everyday. Never saw these issues with Leopard. I keep on getting the following message from iTunes, and if I don't quit it or force-quit it, I will have a black screen telling me I have to restart. Here is the message:
We couldn't complete your itunes store request: an unknown error occured (-50).
    Any clues?
    Thanks

    Thanks,
Not sure what you mean by software install dvd.
I did reinstall OS X 10.7 and did download the combo updater. No progress.
I wonder if these are not general. The are many people out there suffering from the same issues.

  • ITunes store crashes when I open Movies/TV shows section

    Hello everyone,
My iTunes hangs the computer whenever I open the Movies or TV shows section in iTunes Store. The program just stop responding, and then the whole computer kinda stops too. I've tried ctrlcommandesc but nothing comes up, so I had no choice but to shut the power down and restart. I did try to uninstall and reinstall iTunes, but it's still doing the same thing. Does anyone else have this problem? It's getting ridiculous because I've heard so much about Macs supposedly being immune to crashes, and now it's crashing from it's own software. Can anyone give me any suggestions to the cause of the problem and how to solve it? Any feedback will be extremely helpful.
I'm using iMac running on Mac OS X 10.5.5; iTunes 8.
    Thank you!!

    --------
I also have a similar problem. Every time I tried to access TV shows or Movies from iTunes store, it crashes but it only hangs up iTunes so I do not need to restart. I could save some money because of not buying stuff so it may not be so bad...
that is a completely different problem, i've seen that whole clean reinstalls help that... the itunes store freeze is a 20" imac problem, but not all 20"imac problem, which is why you need to be persistent when contacting apple reps, point them to the half a dozen threads here about this problem. (organize before you call, then start reading the threads, the important ones)
(work around it by putting the itunes in an old browser mode, "cmnd-b" when searching or doing anything in the itunes store area)

  • ITunes Store crashing in iTunes 10.7

    Hello.
I am using iTunes 10.7 on a 64-bit Windows 7 laptop. Since Wednesday iTunes has been crashing whenever I try to enter the iTunes Store. I get the message:
"iTunes has stopped working: A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
Of course, Windows cannot tell me what the exact problem is, and has NOT notified me about a solution. I have absolutely no idea why this started happening because it was working perfectly fine before Wednesday. Extremely frustrating!
I've tried rebooting the computer, running the program as an admin and moving the file QTMovieWin.dll. All of these were suggested by people here, and all have failed.
However, there is one thing I can do. Since I installed iTunes in 2012, it has not been "properly installed" (whatever that means), so will uninstalling and re-installing work? I have been very reluctant to do this because it is very likely that I will lose my library of music and will have to recreate it from scratch if I do so.
What more can I try in order to get rid of this error? Thank you.

    Hi Eternities,
So iTunes stops responding and Windows gives the error.
There are a couple articles I would check out for iTunes hanging.
iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues
Using Msconfig to troubleshoot conflicts in Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8
The first has more general troubleshooting and the second more detailed steps for conflict isolation.

  • ITunes store crashes iTunes on Windows 8.1

I recently updated windows to windows 8.1, and since doing that whenever I go to the iTunes store, iTunes crashes. I have no problem playing my music and such, but whenever I go to the store it says the program has become unresponsive and must close.
I've reinstalled iTunes, made sure that everything is up to date, and the works. I'm guess I'm just wondering if anyone else had this problem after upgrade and what they did to fix it.
    Thanks!

    Just found the answer
Try adding C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support; to the system variables PATH
iTunes tries to use QTMovieWin.dll and that the file is in the directory
    Guide to add a PATH:
    Windows 8
Drag the Mouse pointer to the Right bottom corner of the screen
Click on the Search icon and type: Control Panel
Click on -> Control Panel -> System -> Advanced
Click on Environment Variables, under System Variables, find PATH, and click on it.
In the Edit windows, modify PATH by adding the location of the class to the value for PATH. If you do not have the item PATH, you may select to add a new variable and add PATH as the name and the location of the class as the value.
    Close the window.
    Windows 7
Select Computer from the Start menu
Choose System Properties from the context menu
Click Advanced system settings > Advanced tab
Click on Environment Variables, under System Variables, find PATH, and click on it.
In the Edit windows, modify PATH by adding the location of the class to the value for PATH. If you do not have the item PATH, you may select to add a new variable and add PATH as the name and the location of the class as the value.
    Windows XP
Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Advanced
Click on Environment Variables, under System Variables, find PATH, and click on it.
In the Edit windows, modify PATH by adding the location of the class to the value for PATH. If you do not have the item PATH, you may select to add a new variable and add PATH as the name and the location of the class as the value.
    Close the window.

  • ITunes Store Crashes Windows 8.1 | QTMovieWin.dll fix did NOT work

I am running iTunes 11.1.3 on Windows 8.1 64 bit. iTunes and the iTunes Store worked prior to my upgrade to from Windows 8 to 8.1. Every time I attempt to access the iTunes Store or anything associated with it, iTunes crashes. I have tried the QTMovieWin.dll fix by thurdy, which failed to work. I have also attempted booting iTunes into safe mode, loading iTunes under another user in Windows, and have checked for third-party plug-ins. None of this has worked. Does anyone have a solution? Thanks.

Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)
