ITunes store error -9808, can't purchase music or sign in

For a while now, every time I've used the iTunes store, a message comes up saying an unknown error occurred (-9808). It won't let me sign in or download anything. I'm downloading a more recent version of iTunes right now, but I don't think that's the problem. I can't find help for this on the support site. Help! D:

Error 9808 can usually be resolved by adjusting your Internet Options. Try the steps in this article:

I assume you are talking about iTunes on your computer, if so, you will have to remove all Apple programs associated with iTunes:
iTunes, QuickTime, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour and Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Make sure everything that is by Apple is removed including Safari. You can sort by "Publisher", when you uninstall programs. Make sure you have at least one other web browser (like Firefox or Internet Explorer) before removing Safari. That way you can go back to the Apple web site and redownload iTunes later.
Reboot the computer then reinstall iTunes. Everything should work normally.

  • Can't connect to iTunes store, error -9808

Around two days ago, I noticed that I couldn't connect to the iTunes Store via iTunes and the problem has been persisting. A pop-up box showing the message 'Error -9808' will usually pop up. The iTunes diagnostic tool shows a red cross next to the line which says 'Secure link to Store'.
I'm running Windows Vista on a HP G7000 laptop and I have Nod32 installed.
I've scoured the internet for various tips on how to miraculously make it connect, but to no avail. I've deleted both of the iTunes preferences .xml files that was recommended. I've rebooted my machine countless times. I've checked Windows Firewall to see that iTunes is a listed exceptance, my router settings aren't conflicting nor is my anti virus software. I've tried the Automatic Detection of LAN settings or something in Internet Options. I've changed the security settings to SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0 and I've also unchecked the box that says Check for server's revocation certificate. I've flushed my DNS cache again and again.
    Nothing has worked.
I don't know if there is problem with the Store or something wrong my end, but any help on the situation would be greatly appreciated.

    Ugg.
Withing minutes of posting this thread I fixed the problem.

  • ITunes 7 (error -50) Cannot Download Purchased Music...

    Greetings!
I have recently upgraded to iTunes 7 and tried to purchase an album today and recieved error -50 "There was a problem downloading "X", Try again. Please Check Your connection."
I have also purchased music a few days ago with version 7 and had no problems. I do have a "good" connection established, so why can I not download? I tried turning Norton Off, but no difference.
My wife was using iTunes earlier and noticed a pop-up from norton, but did not read it and just clicked allow...so do you think that this might have something to do with this problem? Other than this problem, iTunes 7 works okay, connection to the iTunes Music Store is not an issue.
    Please Help!
    Thanks,
    Jared

    Hello all,
I restarted the computer and all is well. I'm not sure what the problem was...maybe a bug in version 7? After the restart I just went to STORE->CHECK FOR PURCHASES and the new music was downloaded successfully.

  • Please Help! ITunes Store Error -9808

I just got a new Ipod Classic today and downloaded Itunes. I put some CD's on it, previewed songs, and browsed podcasts, etc. I then decided I wanted to download a few songs and was going to make an account, however, Itunes won't let me. I keep getting the message:
We could not complete your itunes store request. An unknown error occured. (-9808). There was an error in the iTunes store please try again later. At first I thought it would have been because there were so many people on because it was Christmas but it is now past one o'clock.(4 east coast) I am just really confused and want to download music. If anyone can tell me what this means or even better have a solution to fix it I would really appreciate it.

I've been having the same problem, looked a bit further on the discussion board and someone mentioned to check that your date and time was set correct, I was certain mine was but when I checked for some reason the time was correct but the date was the 26th Jan 2008, so changed it to the coreect date 26th Dec 2007 and it started working straight away, didn't even need to restart or re install anything, hope this works for you.

The buy icon has disappeared from my itunes store...how can I purchase songs??

The Youtube app was removed by Apple in iOS6.  You can use either the iPhone app from Youtube (free in the app store, but you've got to set it at 2x), or go to www.youtube.com in a Safari web browser.  You can also add the web page to your Home Screen using the share feature.  It will then operate just like an app.

  • Itune store error 9808 message

What does error 9808 means when itune failed to excess the itune store?

    Hi...
Error 9808:  This alert is often caused by a perceived security issue due to higher than expected security settings.
Check your computer's date, time, and time zone. If they are not correct, correct them.
Configure your Internet Options in Windows as described above.
If the issue persists, or the changes made to Internet Options revert after restarting your PC, then the issue is likely caused by out of date or incorrectly configured security software.  Follow the steps in iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues to resolve the issue.
See: Specific Conditions & Alert Messages here >  iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting

  • Why does my Dell Computer running Windows 7, disconnect from the ITunes Store when I try to purchase music?

I downloaded the latest ITunes and I get disconnected when I try to purchase music. The ITunes player will play my music but as soon as I try to access a song to buy it, the program fails. I have spoken with several Apple Techs and no luck.  Tried several things listed on Apple's site, still didn't correct the problem.Does anyone have an answer to this?

You buy one and only one download.
It is your responsibility to move/copy/backup your music.
Certainly you did not update your ipod without making sure that you had transferred anything purchased on the ipod to your computer and included it in your regular backup copy of your computer.

  • Why won't the iTunes Store allow me to make purchases and view my account information?

    Hello,
I'm having several issues with my iTunes store account and was wondering if someone could help me. This is basically what happened...
Problem #1 - iTunes store will not let me purchase music:
I signed into iTunes (i.e. entered my Apple ID and Password). I looked up some music and pressed "Buy." A pop-up appears and says, "Are you sure you want to buy and download "Song Name?" As a response, I press the "Buy" button. Then another pop-up appears and says, "Improve Apple ID security - To help ensure the security of your Apple ID, choose 3 security questions and answers" and it also requires my Apple ID and Password. I enter my Apple ID and Password and press the "Continue" button. Another pop-up appears saying, "Sign in Required - enter your Apple ID and Password" (Note: I am already signed in at this point). So, I enter my Apple ID and Password again. However, the "Sign in Required - enter your Apple ID and Password" appears again. I'm signed in, but the iTunes store apparently believes that I'm not. Why is this happening and how do I solve this?
Problem # 2 - iTunes store will not let me view my account information:
While signed in, I click the button at the top right corner of the iTunes store (i.e., the button with my Apple ID on it - [email protected]). Then I click "Account." A pop-up appears saying, "Sign in to view account information - Please enter your Apple ID and password and click "Account Info." So I enter my Apple ID and password and click the "Account Info" button (Note: I am already signed in at this point). Then another pop-up appears saying, "Sign in to view account information - Please enter your Apple ID and password and click "Account Info." Once again, I enter my Apple ID and password, then press the "Account Info" button. Then, the same "Sign in to view account information" pop-up appears again.
Basicially, I can sign into my iTunes store account, but when I want to make purchases or view my account information, iTunes continuously asks me to sign in even when I am already signed in.
Also, it might be helpful to note the following:
    - I want to change my account info because my old credit card expired and I now have a new one (and would like to change my payment info accordingly)
    - Also, I changed my password in hopes that it would help solve these problems. However, this did not help in the least.
I hope someone can help me out because I do not want anyone else to access my account (and spend my money) due to its apparent malufunctioning. And thanks in advance for your help!
    Cheers,
    K.E.K.

I had similiar problems with my itunes account and after some searching found a response that helped me - perhaps it will help you also...
It has to do with the cookie settings in Safari (of all things!)
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3559322?start=0&tstart=0
I had the problem where when I started up itunes I was constantly prompted for my password regarding something about "automatic downloads". No matter how many times I typed it in, the prompt would just keep re-appearing (I tried about 8-10 times).
When I tried to resolve the issue (based on another thread) by viewing my itunes account (in the top left drop down window where your user name is), I was getting odd messages about "make sure the date is correct", and itunes would not let me view my account.
By turning OFF the option to block ALL cookies in Safari, the problem(s) have gone away.
Open Safari - go to prefs - click on Privacy tab - make sure "block cookies" is set to "from third parties..."
    Good luck.

how can i designate the location of the purchased music from itune store?, how can i designate the location of the purchased music from itune store?

    Hi,
Thanks.  I know how to do that, however, I thought it only works with the imported content not the purchased ones.  The reason for wanting this was that I keep all my music in NAS drive for SONOS (the wireless music system) will need the music to be in NAS so that it can play music while the mac is on sleep mode.
Anyhow, I will try again and let you know if it does work.
    Thanks again.

I synced a movie from my laptop 2 my iPad but lost some music video I purchased from iTunes store. How can I get them back ? Thxs

Sorry, but movies cannot be downloaded more than once without charge, so if you don't have a viable backup, you may be out of luck. You can, however, contact the iTunes Store, explain the situation, and see if they can make an exception for you.
