ITunes Store extremely slow...

There are moments (often) when the iTunes Store is just extremely slow. I'll buy a movie and it will tell me it'll be ready in 3 hours. How am I supposed to watch anything on my iPad or Apple TV?

The widgets weren't working either, clean installs seem to fix everything, even if they take several hours.

  • ITunes + Ping extremely slow with Library on external HD

    Hi,
My Library is on an external HD connected to an Airport Extreme base station. My MacBook is connected wired to Airport, so there are no possible wifi connection issues.
iTunes is extremely slow since version 10. If I select a song and want to select another one, I've got a spinning beach ball for at least 20s. Change a rating: 20s delay. Every move I make: at least 20s delay...
My guess: every time I select a song, iTunes connects to Ping to fill up the dropdown menu next to the song title. Disabling Ping doesn't help. I tried in Terminal "defaults write com.apple.iTunes hide-ping-dropdown -bool TRUE", but this merely hides the dropdown menu, it doesn't stop the functionality.
iTunes is basically not usable anymore.
    Any suggestions?

I am running iTunes 11 with the media files stored on an external hard-drive. This setup works great except for one thing:
If I am currently downloading something from the iTunes Store and I quit iTunes
    Don't quit iTunes.
How can I make iTunes see the interrupted download and not have to restart the download from the beginning?
    You cannot.

Slow in what respect?  Please be specific.

Ummmm, could you ellaborate on how you plan to turn to Windows because iTunes (an application that runs on Windows) is running slow?

  • Itunes starts extremely slow after an update of windows 8.1.

Itunes starts extremely slow after an update of windows 8.1.
It takes up to 10 minutus.
If I see the appliction log in event viewer then I see the following errors on the Bonjour service.
    For instance:
Client application bug: DNSServiceResolve(a8:fa:d8:3a:1e:8f@fe80::aafa:d8ff:fe3a:1e8f._apple-mobdev2._t cp.local.) active for over two minutes. This places considerable burden on the network.
    followed by
SendWakeupPacket error: sent -1 bytes: 10065
    What can this be?
    Already thanks,
    John

I did all the step with save mode and that didn't gave the same result.
Then I created a new account and there itunes started up normally.
So I contued with the user section.
I removed the itunes directory from
    c:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
This gave the same result in not starting up.
Then I removed the itunes directory from
    c:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
The a popup appears that the Bonjour Service has been disabled.
I looked in services and saw that is was still running.
But I tried to restart this service and it took a long time to stop this service.
Even if I selected restart the Bonjour Service didn't start.
Manually starting was not a problem.
Clicking OK on the popup let itunes start quickly. And closing and starting it again was also quickly.
So Matt thanks for your answer.
If it happens again I have to see if it was the removing of the itunes directory from roaming or restarting the Bonjour Service.

  • Why is downloading movies from the iTunes store so slow?

why is downloading movies from the itunes store so slow?

    Hi there
Many users seem to be experiencing this issue around the world (see thread  https://discussions.apple.com/message/16981332#16981332) - my iTunes dowload last night showed 7 hours ETA for a 45 minute tv show.  this morning I rebooted it and tried again, it is now taking 2 hours.  An improvement in theory but still terrible.  I don't know if it is internet connection but everything else I do on the internet seems to be running at normal pace.....
Not much help sorry but at least you can see you are not alone
    Cheers

  • ITunes is extremely slow and I cannot make a secure connection

When I connect to iTunes my computer is extremely slow, and when I try to connect to the iTunes store I get the error message cannot make a secure connection.  I have internet access and I have ran the iTunes diagnostics test and all the tests passed except making a secure connection.  I have disabled all of my security systems including my firewall and Norton.  I am not running any proxy settings.  This has been an ongoing problem for over a month and I am at a loss.

Check out this Apple article -> iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting
Blocked by configuration: (Mac OS X/Windows)
Configure Internet Options (for Windows computers only):
Run iTunes Diagnostics. If the "Secure link to iTunes Store" section does not pass, do the following.
    Open Internet Explorer.
From the Tools menu, choose Internet Options.
    Click Connections.
Under "Dial-up and Virtual Private Networking," choose "Never dial  a connection." It may not be possible to choose this if you’ve never used  dial-up Internet; if this is the case, skip to the next step.
    Click LAN Settings.
In the window that opens, enable the option to "Automatically detect  settings" if it is not enabled.
iTunes uses Internet Options proxy settings. Apple recommends  removing proxy settings that interfere with access to the iTunes Store  if needed.
    Click OK.
    Click the Advanced tab.
Scroll down to the Security section and look for the option to "Check for server certificate revocation." If it is enabled, disable it.
Look for Use SSL 3.0 and Use TLS 1.0. Make sure at least one of  those two checkboxes is selected and click OK (You can select both checkboxes).
Apply any changes, and restart your computer if you modified the option to "Check for server certificate revocation" (step #11).

  • Itunes is extremely slow

After I couldn't open up Itunes for months I finally got it to launch but it's extremely slow. When the music store finally displays it has broken chains for pictures and it responds very slowly. Not doing what I tell it to. The fact that I can't call Apple is extremely disturbing, but I've done my part by telling people not to buy an ipod and get an mp3 player instead.
    Help would be appreciated, thanks.

Reinstalling iTunes shouldn't lose your music files.
But it is ALWAYS a good idea to have backups, esp of purchased files.

  • ITunes store very slow on iPad and iphone

Same problem as all you guys, last week noticed iTunes very slow on iPhone 4s and 3 rd gen iPad, phoned Apple yesterday, after being told to restore ( real pain) I was told- because I have 5000 songs on iTunes match the system is overloading, !!!!
I use my iPad as a control pad with AirPlay, I bought a 16g iPad because of icoud being able to store my music without filling up all the iPad memory, WHY SAY 20,000 FREE on iCloud if it can't handle a quarter of this?
Something stinks here, two weeks ago everything worked well, I haven't added to library since then, so why is it now struggling?
I hate when problems occur, the way Apple act as though they aren't aware, just admit it, tell us you are working on it.
So as it stands, it's my fault for BUYING to many songs....... I know how to fix that...... won't be buying anymore.
Ps,  also have same problem on my 3rd gen iPad.

I'm observing the same problem. iTunes is nearly frozen, especially podcasts make the system extremely slow, no downloads possible at all. Opening an album song list is also painfully slow. All this prevents me from buying from the store. Apple should be interested in this. Please note that I'm not using iTunes match!

  • ITunes Store is slow when returning sorting and display 50+ songs

    Hello
I frequently have problems whith iTunes Store searche results. For example today, I searched for Pitbull songs, and clicked on "display all" to get the list like display. Then I sorted the  200+ songs by clicking on popularity. Sorting was surprisingly slow. Using the scrollbar was also very slow, sometimes scrolling down continuously just after one click on the scrollbar, and more often laging.
My laptop has a Dual Core 2 processor @ 2.4GHz, 4Go of RAM, and a high quality WIFI signal, with win 7 64 bits. In addition no other software with high CPU usage were running  in background.
Does any one have noticed the same problem  ? Any advice to fix this.
    Thanks
    GaBo

  • ITunes store very slow on search bar

Is there a problem with the search facility in the iTunes store? It is extremely slow (takes ages). Actually going into the home page and clicking hyperlinks/fast links to albums etc. is normal and fast. However when I search for a song or artist it either takes ages or just doesn't happen and it's becoming extremely frustrating. I have only noticed this today. My iTunes version is 7.0.2.16
    Thanks in advance

I believe this is a problem itunes is having and needs to sort out. it's happening to a lot of people, myself included. It just can't seem to search for anything thatis even the slightest bit "uncommon" or just for individual song or album titles without names. it's very frustrating, but i have seen in other discussion boards of people with the same problem that it is probably an apple issue.

  • Why is the iTunes Store so slow for me?

I have fast cable internet but when I surf the iTunes store it's like I'm on dial-up or something. Especially with previewing songs and loading pages etc. It's been this way for quite some time, I'm using iTunes version 10. Thanks.

you know very well it has nothing to do with itunes or the modem/router.  apple servers are very very slow and its an absolute disgrace.
you can download from third party servers at twice the speeds (at your own risk)
Apple is the second largest company in the world and they treat customners in this way

  • ITunes Store much slower in iTunes 9

I'm finding that the iTunes Store is very much slower loading then it is in iTunes 8. I'm using an iMac G5 2 GHz, Mac OS 10.4.11, with iTunes 9 , and a G4 iMac 800MHz, Mac OS 10.4.11, with iTunes 8.2.1

I use Safari as my Default Browser. I have my content stored on 1Tb ext drive - very few problems with iTunes and ATV since I added my ext drive to my startup menu causing it to open before iTunes but.....
Just bought Angels & Demons on my laptop and have been presented with an estimated download time of 55hrs!!!
I did resolve an LP download issue yesterday by pointing iTunes to my laptop for storage - download had taken over 24hrs but was complete in under an hour when the content was stored on laptop as opposed to ext HDD.
I know that any new release of iTunes causes an increase in interest on a global scale but I don't think that the problem is weight of traffic as suggested elsewhere....
Edit / Update - Over 1hr to download 24mb of the movie file - any news from Apple as to why this is happening?

  • Itunes 8 extremely slow and feezes Vista

    Oh my god,
This is getting worse. If you tought that Itunes 7 and Vista weren't ment for eachother, Itunes 8 and Vista just hate eachother. Itunes 8 is just extremely slow on my fresh installed Vista. It keeps freezing up and sometimes my system won't respond to a thing I am doing thanks to the wonderfull crappy software from Apple...
If this is really all you guys can write then I guess I will have to look for a better software to synch my ipod.

I've definitely noticed that switching between library sections (music, movies, etc.) is much slower in iTunes 8 than it was with ver. 7. So far, it's a teeth gritting annoyance at worst. It improved somewhat when I set all areas to List View, but only somewhat. The program also takes longer to load than version 7 did (sort of unbelievable in itself!), and there WAS one heart stopper of a moment where I thought it had locked up and taken my HP laptop with it, but it came back after 15-20 seconds on its own. I don't have a novice-level PC by any means; it's one of the newest and nicest of the direct-to-retail models, with a Core 2 Duo (P8400), discrete Nvidia 9600M GT w/512MB RAM, and 4GB of system RAM, running Vista HP 64 bit. (Yep, I installed the 64-bit iTunes.) I did notice one other poster mentioned having an HP laptop. Doesn't seem like hardware limitations should be a factor, at least in my case; I hope, whatever the issue turns out to be, that it isn't some total incompatibility with something HP loads on its machines. I'm sure Apple will come up with a bug fix at some point, but since the iPhone 3G became part of my life, it sure seems like a large chunk of that life is spent waiting for Apple to fix bugs and putting up with subpar performance in the meantime. I'm pretty new to things Apple, and I can say quite honestly that all the problems I've had with various iPods, the iPhone 3G, and here and there with iTunes were the reason I chose my current laptop over a MBP. I couldn't stand the idea of spending all that money and getting a lemon. Apple isn't the huge performer I'd always heard it was, not in my experience!

  • Itunes stuck on "Accessing Itunes Store" and slow

I finally fixed my itunes, or so i thought, now when i open the itunes store it stays stuck at "Accessing Itunes Store", and if it gets through and loads itunes, the itunes store is really slow. help?

I'm having the same issue it tries to connect to the iTunes store and just sits there forever. Anyone else seeing the same thing? Trying to figure out if it is just me.

  • Initial search on ITunes store very slow

We're using ITunes 7.6 on a Windows Vista PC. Users without parental controls can access the store with no issues. Kids accounts, though, can access Itunes and the store, but the initial search is very slow - 10 minutes on a 6 MB DSL connection. When these searches finally complete, access is then at expected speeds - a few seconds per request. I have not had any successful tips from tech support yet. We have uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes and Quicktime.

tspatt,We didn't have luck with adding http://ax.phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net/ to the allowed web addresses in Vista's Parental Controls.  We already had apple.com allowed. We still have the same problem with the iTunes store taking several minutes to load.Call me a cynic, but, I think Apple really isn't motivated to find a solution.  I think they like seeing MS product users experience pain.  On the flip side, we already know that MS likes all of it's competitors to fail.If you have Windows XP or Vista and want Parental Controls, the only solution seems to be to use a different music provider instead of iTunes.
