Itunes store is currently unavailable

My 3rd generation apple tv will play every purchased tv show I have except one series. When I click on it, I get "itunes store is currently unavailable. try again later." If I select it from my computer via home sharing, it plays no problem. Apple TV is playing all the other shows so the store is obviously available. Anybody have this issue and know how to fix it?

According to Apple, the servers in the US were overloaded at the time of the iPhone launch. Because it was done through iTunes, I think there was something to do with the servers. Maybe the hype is where you are now

I'm getting  messages on Apple TV that netflix and the itunes store are currently unavailable.  This can't be a coincidence.  Also, the iTunes store is working fine on my Mac, the message is only on the apple TV.  Does anyone come across this frequently?

    1. An explanation for what? There is indeed a support number (which you can find on this page in "Contact Us" and you are limited to one support call in the first 90 days and if you have the AppleCare you have more than that available, so I'm not sure what you are whinning about (and it is whinning, trust me).
    2. http://www.kelleytown.com/ikelleytown.htm#firewire
However, since I wrote that I've also found this link pretty well explaining why firewire is the only way to go as well (it's about video but the same principles apply to the iPod:
    http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/index.php/id;1847886895
    3. Your computer is constantly changing whether you know it or not. Do you not apply any MS upgrades (or have them automatically applied for you?) Do you not have any antivirus on your machine (which applies its own upgrades)? Do you not, ever, ever, ever, open any email message, or download that cute little movie your friend sent you, or plug in any other device (like a digital camera or flashcard reader) or any of the other hundreds of things that change the computer environment.
It would be tempting to conclude a priori that the update you applied is now the problem, but if so, how do you explain the millions of others who apply the update without issues? The difference is in the software and settings on the witches brew that is a PC. So in a sense you are right in that the old firmware worked with the mess that is your computer and now the new one doesn't -- but it ain't up to Apple to fix your computer, and impossible for them to control the environment (oh, I guess unless you buy a Mac -- "coincidentally" Mac's use firewire for the iPod :>)
I dunno -- when 90% of all issues (100% of all connection issues) can be solved with the Adaptec 4300 I tend to have a lot less patience with folks. If you want to use the mess that is USB then you'll just have to deal with the fact that MS screwed it up big time and become more knowledgable on how to handle the problems.

  • I am getting error message that says "the iTunes store is currently unavailable......how do I fix this?

I keep getting iTunes store is currently unavailable when I try to view my purchased content on my apple tv 2.   How can I fix this?

I just saw the date of the original post and so this doesn't help them...but anyone doing searches as I did for help...hopefully this will help you.
I posted this in another thread, but sounds like you have the same problem I have.  I can watch youtube, and even trailers, but I cannot watch any of my purchased movies and I can't rent movies either.  It originally started after my 5.1 update and sporadically I would get the error in loading content...now I get an iTunes connection error as well.
So, I finally decided to pay 20 bones for support to find out what is wrong.  Apple support confirmed there is a "number of people" having this issue and he thought there would be an update soon since they have been working on the problem for a couple of weeks.  And he told me they wouldn't charge me for the call.
    A little frustrating.

  • The iTunes Store is currently unavailable

Just started having this issues on my 2nd Gen Apple TV since I bought South Park Season 10. Since then everytime I try to watch an episode of series (I own several seasons) I get the message "The iTunes Store is currently unavailable". I'm able to watch other TV Shows I bought like Top Gear I just get this message if I try to watch South Park. Any ideas?
I've already completely restored my Apple TV and manually re-entered all my setting without any change, still have the error.

I don't have a solution to the error message, but I do have a work around. You can access the episodes by performing a search for South Park. Find the episodes that you purchased and you should be able to stream from there. Add the season to your Favorites for easier access in the future.

  • ITunes store is currently unavailable only for most recently purchased content

I have a new issue: when attempting to access the three most recent TV series that I purchased, I get the error, "iTunes store is currently unavailable. Please try again later." This has been occurring consistently for the last three days, even after completely resetting the Apple TV and re-logging into my iTunes account. I can access newest series on my iPad and iTunes but Apple TV will not play them, only give me the error. It will, however, play anything I purchased prior to the three most recent purchases. Maddening!

I've been experiencing the same problem for the last several days. When clicking on certain TV shows (not specifically most recently purchased) through the purchased tab it goes straight to this error. The workaround by searching for the show works fine but is still a pain in the arse.
It's really annoying when you try and do the right thing by paying for content (often far more expensive than even physical mediums that aren't DRM'd up the wazoo) and we can't even watch it because of server problems.
Possibly more annoying is how crummy Apple service has become. I called to report the problem, they tell me to fill out a webform, they respond telling me to call. Seriously? Just fix your **** servers.

  • "iTunes store is currently unavailable" for 1 show

My AppleTV2 (completely up to date) is stating "The iTunes store is currently unavailable.  Try again later"---but only when I try to access one particular show.  It connects perfectly fine for every other show.  The show is still in the itunes library.  I have restarted.  Any idea how to resolve this?

Interesting. In geekgirl1975's case I assumed she (?) was trying to play the shows from the "cloud" (Apple's servers), the second column in the AppleTV's menu ("TV Shows", "Purchased"). But in your case you are trying to play them from the library on your computer (the fifth column in the AppleTV's menu, "Computers"), right? Hmmm. And the episodes which won't play on the AppleTV do play in iTunes?
The first thing to try is rebooting the AppleTV. Press and hold the Down and Menu buttons on the remote until the status light on the AppleTV blinks rapidly. Once the main menu appears you'll have to wait a bit longer before it will respond to the remote control (still booting).
If that doesn't solve the problem, it suggests the AppleTV uses a different verification mechanism than iTunes on the computer (otherwise why would the computer be able to play all the shows while the AppleTV can play only some of them?). I have an insane suggestion which probably won't work but it's worth a shot just for the sake of experimentation: try turning off "Send data to Apple" in the AppleTV settings menu (unless you already have it turned off). Don't get your hopes up. Probably pointless and irrelevant.

  • Apple tv 2 says "iTunes store is currently unavailable. Try again later." on some rentals in iCloud.

Apple tv 2 says "iTunes store is currently unavailable. Try again later." on some rentals in iCloud. Anyone else seeing this?

I can access youtube and movie trailers. My location setting is set as United States - I don't know if there is another "store region" setting. I signed in & out & in again using my apple ID & password - all that works fine.

  • HT4381 When I try it go into Apple TV it says account sign in failed.  The iTunes Store is currently unavailable. Could anyone please help with this?  Thank you

Wen I try to go into my Apple TV it says account sign in failed then says the iTunes Store is unavailable. Dos anyone have any any input or solutions for this?  Thank you

After I upgraded to Mavericks I was also having this message when I tried to update. There was a previous post about this problem which offered this simple solution which worked for me:

Got it! Thanx.  What I did was go to my account, check that they had my new ID and Password which they did, then hit reset button. All fixed.

  • The iTunes Store is currently unavailable. Try again Later.

My AppleTV won't let me view any of the French films I want to see tonight.  It'll let me view and watch the previews for everything else, but just not French films, eg "Mes Amis, Mes Amours," "Odette Toulemonde" or "La Maison du Bonheur" --what's up with that?  Does Apple have something against films?
I've tried restarting my AppleTV and also went to settings and did a full reset, which required me to reenter my network and info.  But still has the same problem.  I can go and view any other films, just not those ones... really weird, and disappointing.

I restarted and reset the device; still couldn't access my TV purchases.  According to other post in this community the problem is with Apple's server.  A work around is to go to iTunes, search for the show and play it from there.  It recognizes it as a perviously purchased show.  Wish Apple would fix the issue.

Same problem. I can see the itunes store so not a problem with windows firewall. The account is active on my iphone so i know i am not locked out. I can connect the PC to my iphone so i know itunes is working ok. It is just logging into itunes on this pc which doesn't work. Only thing I can think of is that the email address I use for my apple id has been offline for a while and is working again now, I'm wondering whether this has been the case for others who are having this issue?

  • SOLUTION - iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.

I have had this problem three times in the past few months. I think I've found a solution. (I just posted this solution on a question in the iTunes for Windows forum, but I think there needs to be a thread here for users with an Apple TV.)
The first time I spent over a week emailing back and forth to Apple Support with no fix. Nothing they tried seemed to work. They tried to tell me it was my Mac or my Apple TV, but I was always able to purchase and download iPhone Apps, songs, and podcasts. The trouble was when I tried to download App updates and TV show Season Passes purchased on my Apple TV. Once the problem started, I would always get the "The iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later" error. The Apple TV would give a similar error message.
I knew I had a few iPhone App updates available, but I couldn't download them in iTunes. I made sure all of the Apps with available updates were installed on my iPhone, then downloaded the updates through the App Store app on the phone. This cleared the download queue of any App updates. At this point all I had was TV shows. Within 24 hours the Apple TV was able to begin downloading the episodes.
The first time I tried this I couldn't be sure that my solution was the actual fix, since there was almost a day between what I did and when the Apple TV began to download TV shows. But, I have since had the same exact trouble two more times and each time I have used this method with successful results.
So, here's the steps to follow:
    1. Sync your iPhone or iPod touch and make sure all apps with available updates are on the phone/touch. Using iTunes, you may have to install apps that are not currently on the device (but are in your iTunes Applications list).
    2. Using the App Store app on the phone/touch, download and install all updates. Restart the device and sync again to iTunes. This will tell iTunes to stop looking for the app updates in the iTunes Store.
    3. Hopefully, within 24 hours your downloads will resume normally.
As I said, this has worked for me every time, but it doesn't work immediately. Give it a day and you should see results. I noticed this problem again just this morning, so I tried these steps during my lunch break and now, six hours later, my Apple TV just downloaded the latest episodes of Top Gear, ATHF, and Breaking Bad.
    Good luck!

Same issue.  I emailed apple and they had me call apple.  Not really any help.  Did all the troubleshooting listed and to have further help diagnosing problems it isn't free.  I explained to the rep that I have seen others having same issues - he didn't know anything about.  This is first time I have had problems.  I can't even purchase song on my PC but can on my iphone.  I just would like to be able to access my account.  Afraid to sign out of itunes in case I can't even get to my library etc.

  • We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.

Please can someone help. I keep on getting this when I try and buy a song or upgrade my iPhone aps. I have got the latest iTunes on my 15" MacBook Pro with OS X 10.8.5 (12F37). Last week I changed my password on //appleid.apple.com I could the access my account in iTunes. I have tried to log on to my account / view my account in itunes / buy a song and tried upgrading my apps, but I can't do anything now. it is frustrating. Please, please, please can someone help. :-)

Unsure if this will help anyone but I had the same problem with the message always coming up when I tried to login: "We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."
What I couldn't understand was that I could log into iTunes online, but not through the iTunes app, becoming very frustrated I went to drastic measures to get everything working again - although I found this post after I had success.
To add to the issue, my iPhone (4S - iOS7) was visible on iTunes (latest version), but some of my apps had failed to sync (showing grey on my iPhone and being unable to delete them), causing further issues and adding to my frustrations....which attributed to the drastic measures posted below.
(You may want to try following the above posts before following my method)

    "Dear Luke,
Thank you for writing to iTunes Store Customer Support, my name is Indra and I'll be assisting to you with your concern.
I understand that you are unable to login to your iTunes store account and getting message that the iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable. I can imagine you must be eager to access your account and I will do my best to resolve this issue.
Luke, as an advisor for the iTunes Store, I handle issues related to billing, downloading, customer accounts, and the items available on the iTunes Store. Although your question falls outside of my area of specialty, I will be happy to assist you with resolving your issue.
I have verified that the iTunes Store is functioning and accepting connections. The issue could have been temporary, related to your internet connection, your local network, or your computer itself. If you’re still unable to connect, this article outlines some potential solutions:
Can't connect to the iTunes Store

Firewall, virus-protection, and web-acceleration software can prevent you from connecting to the iTunes Store. You might not be able to connect even if the software appears to be configured to allow full access to the iTunes Store. You can use the MSCONFIG utility to determine if software on your computer is preventing access to the iTunes Store. For detailed instructions, please refer to the following article:
Using Msconfig to troubleshoot conflicts in Windows Vista and Windows 7
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2292
If the articles above don't help you connect to the iTunes Store, I suggest testing to see if this issue occurs while you are signed in to a new user account on your computer. To learn how to create a new user account in your version of Windows, please read the article below for your operating system:
How to create and configure user accounts in Windows XP
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/279783

Windows 8: Create a user account
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-user-account
Once you are signed in to this new user account, open iTunes and try to connect to the iTunes Store. If you can connect without error, then you’ve identified that the issue is with the previous user account that you were using. You may want to consider adopting this new account as your user account and transferring your files from the old account to your new one.

But if the above doesn't work for you then you can follow my method...in the end, I perfomed the following actions which did work:
1).  Uninstalled iTunes from my computer (via Control Panel > Programs & Features)
2).  Located the iTunes folder containing media, Previous Libraries etc (normally located under your Music folder) and simply moved it to my desktop. (can't afford to delete)
    3). Downloaded iTunes.
4). Plugged my iPhone into my laptop and moved all contents across to my desktop (photo's).
5). Restored my iPhone erasing ALL data (extreme but desperate measures were required) - you may want to back it up, but I personally didn't have anything that I couldn't afford to loose on it.
6). Set-up my iPhone (set language etc...) including iCloud, but did not plug it into my laptop.
7). Chose the following iPhone settings>
              > iCloud - Contacts turned off
              > Mail, Contacts, Calendars - iCloud Contacts turned off (same end result)
              > iTunes & App Store - made sure I was logged in via Apple ID.
    7). Closed Outlook.
8). Re-installed iTunes, saving it on the C:> default location.
9). Followed the normal iTunes install prompts, setting it up as new. (making sure I had NO apps or music - clean slate)
10). Plugged my iPhone into my laptop, waiting for it to appear as it normally does.
11). Checked for iOS updates and iTunes updates (all good)
12). Checked Sync Contacts with Outlook (opening Outlook at the same time) - Calendars I left to the iCloud
13). APPLY....once sync finally completed (this time SUCCESSFUL) I was able to click iTunes Store and LOG IN.....finally!
I probably didn't have to perform all 13 steps, but that's exactly what I did to get everything working again!
There is probably someone out there who will be able to explain why I couldn't login to iTunes, why many of my apps didn't load onto my iPhone correctly, why everything failed to sync and probably able to shorten the above 13 steps to a quick fix.... but for now, everything is finally working and my 48hrs of frustration has come to an stress free end!

  • "The iTunes store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."

We got the "The iTunes store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later." error after purchasing the movie "Tammy".
Tech support thought we had a connection issue with our Apple TV because we could watch this movie from our computer; that did not make sense really because all the other movies we purchased in the past still worked and we could watch previews for others. This process with tech support took a long time...in the process we reset the Apple TV and a bunch of other things. We finally gave up and watched in on our 27" iMac.
I do not know how apple security filters on Apple TV, but the Apple TV had been set-up with the original defaults for years.  I clicked on the security and put in a password because that is the only way I could changed the content filter from "PG".  I changed the content filter and restarted Apple TV and I was able to play "Tammy" which was rated "R".  I'm not sure if this was a coincidence, and I do not know why I was able to purchase a movie that I would not be able to play.  Maybe the purchase was allowed by iTunes at the time because they are not checked because the content can be played from other devices like my computer, and the restriction was on Apple TV, but then again, the "PG" filter on Apple TV should have prevented me from viewing to purchase the movie in the first place. Anyway the content filter has been changed and we can watch "Tammy" on our TV.
    Just Sharing...

Yes, it does sound like software on your comptuer may be preventing you from accessing the iTunes Store. You may want to try using MSCONFIG to determine what software is conflicting. The process is not difficult, although it is a little time consuming. Here's how:
