ITunes Store Not Recognizing Gift Card Credits

I recently redeemed a gift card and now $25.00 is showing as available on my iTunes Store page. However, when I attempt to buy any 99-cent song, I get following message:
“Your remaining credits are insufficient or inapplicable to this purchase. Your account will be debited for some or all of this purchase”
Apparently there is some disconnect between my account and my iTunes store page. Apple support has been non-responsive and unable to help me with this problem. Any ideas?

I saw Chris' reply to you below as well. I could be wrong, but I believe what he is trying to clarify is that as long as it's not a card that says "Digital Album" on it. Those are cards that have content on them instead of balance.
Now if your card is a $25.00 card, then I'm pretty certain it is a regular iTunes gift card.
First thing to check. When you go to iTunes home page, on the upper-left hand corner, next to your account name (most likely your email), do you see a balance there (i.e. $25.00). If you do not, then logout of iTunes and re-log back in. You should see a balance other than $0, then when you purchase, it would use that balance first.
Try that and let me know if you still get the error.

  • Cannot access iTunes Store to redeem gift cards

    I have just installed iTunes 10 and cannot access the iTunes Store to redeem my gift card. I am able to access the store to see music but when I hit "redeem" or "my account" I get an error message that says "We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable. (5555) This happens on both of my computers.

    I get this same error whenever I try to download anything from both my computer and my iPod touch. Both my brother's and my roommate's accounts work fine on these same items, however. I'm hoping it's something that's being fixed.

    ITunes is expensive and hard to use. Think I'll stick with eMusic which is much better!

    Is it actually prompting you for a credit card, or just asking you to verify billing details? Due to recent security issues and identify theft (mostly due to phishing scams), the iTunes Store seems to be requiring more frequent verification of billing information, even if you have a balance from a prepaid card. Go into the Payment information in your account and set the payment method to "none", if it's not already, which should then stop the regular requirements for verification. It may still ask - mine did for a while - but you should just be able to click through the buttons without problems.
    By all means, though, if you prefer eMusic, use that service.

    By 'can't use them' you mean ... ? Are you getting any error messages ? Your account's balance can be used to buy content for yourself (you can't use it for gifting) from the app store, iTunes store, ibookstore and Mac App Store

    If you are double charged, it will show in your purchase history.
    If you put in a $25 gift card, you can only make $25 worth of purchase.
    Compare your purchases from the time you input your gift card.

    Without scratching them off to get the numbers and redeeming them there is no way for you to do so. You could go back to CVS and see if they can get the data from their computer or see if your receipt helps.

    For me I just load up the credit in iTunes on a computer or iPhone/iPad.  When I rent/buy on AppleTV the store credit is used before the linked credit card, you just don't see the store credit on AppleTV.  Occasionally peopel have had the cc debited but if that happened I'd contact iTunes Store support and get them to sort it out.
