ITunes Store using higher bitrates than ACC 128 kbps!?

I just bought Head of Femur's "Ringodom or Proctor" and instead of downloading it at the typical 128 kbps, all the tracks were encoded at different bitrates, ranging from as low as 256 kbps to 299 kbps! What's going on? Has Apple started offering some albums and tracks at higher bitrates or is this some fluke?

This is not the first time this has happened, John. I downloaded Heart's album, "Jupiter's Darling", several months ago. Much to my pleasant suprise, it was encoded in what appears to be AAC VBR @ 256. The thought comes to mind are certain artists or record labels now offering Apple higher bitrate downloads. I did some investigating on the label for this album & it looked like an independent with no major label connections.

Am I able to use my iTunes Store account with more than one PC ?
I use my account on my PC - but I would like to download the latest version of iTunes onto my Mum's laptop, log in to my own iTunes Store account and rent a movie for her to download onto the laptop.
Is this possible and would I still be able to use my account on my PC at the same time?

Good question.
I don't think you can--if I'm incorrect, someone will tell me--but it seems to me to be easier to simply open an iTunes account for your mom. Then get her a gift card, load it into iTunes for her, and rent a movie that way. Not elegant at all...but workable.

I cannot connect to iTunes store using iTunes. I have version 11.0.2.26 on Win 7 pc. I have had no problems until recently. Can't say exactly the problem began as I don't normally use my computer to access the store but my last successful access according to iTunes diagnostics was 28th Feb 2013 (if thats useful?!)
I've run the Network Connectivity Test in iTunes diagnostics and I got the following results:
- Network interfaces verified.
-Internet connection verified.
-Secure link to iTunes failed.
When I click the help button next to the 'Secure link to iTunes failed' message I get the following:

My pc is connected to the internet. I've checked firewalls. Windows firewall is off. I'm running AVG internet security 2013. Iv've checked the firewall settings on that and iTunes is not being blocked.

I seem to have tracked down the problem. AVG Family Safety software was causing the issue somehow. I have uninstalled it and iTunes now working. I will contact AVG for a solution as I now have no way of blocking certain sites.

Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:

When converting higher bitrate songs to 128 does it alter the music library on the pc?

I have an iPhone 5S 64 GB and an iPod Nano 6th generation 16 GB that I sync to a windows based PC. I have 15.28 GB of music on my PC. It fits nicely as is and at the higher bitrate. I would love to put all that music on my iPod. I am curious if I convert the higher bitrate to say 128, does this affect the music on my PC and on my iPhone or does it just convert the music and put it on my iPod?

Or via the Store > View Account menu option on your computer's iTunes
You might then need to log out of your account on any devices (iPad, iPhone, IPod Touch) that you have and then log back in so as to 'refresh' the account on them.

There isn't currently any music, films or TV programmes available in the South Korean store, so you will only see iTunes U in the iTunes store app. You can't use the US store unless you are in the US, you have to be in a country to use its store (that is in the Store's terms) - so whilst you are in South Korea you can only use the South Korean store.
Are there other music purchase download sites in South Korea that you could use ? You can also copy your CDs via your computer's iTunes

H.264 looks horrible at higher bitrate than iTunes videos

I export my videos as .mp4 with H.264 at 2000 kbits/s. I was looking at some videos from the iTunes store and they have a lower bitrate but have significantly higher quality. My videos are full of artifacts, especially if there is any movement. Is there a way to better optimize my video output so that it will look better without significantly increasing the bitrate (I am stuck with H.264 for my PS3)? Thanks.

Wow...I started playing around with this a little more, and I can see what you mean (now that I think about it, I don't recall ever getting a usable result using the movie to mpeg-4 iMovie feature...I probably should have thought of that before).
What I was able to do with decent results was this: I exported from iMovie to quicktime movie using h.264 at the best quality, frame reordering, no bitrate constraints, etc. The I used mpeg streamclip (free at http://www.squared5.com/) to convert that movie to mpeg-4. The resulting movie was not as good as the original, but it was watchable and by far better than the output from iMovie. Try this and see if you like it. It looks like iMovie for some reason doesn't like to output directly to mpeg-4.

I use my music on a home sterio and import locally from CD's to Windows using the Apple Lossless format only, to achieve the Highest quality sound. However, When I buy from Itunes store I can only get AAC format, which is low quality. How can I get Itunes to give me only Apple Lossless format?

I do agree with what i have been said. I am a musician, i think AAC is definitely medium-low quality. I bought this year lots of AAC 256 for Itunes. I have been surprised. SO many times i need to go to the equalizer to counter-balance the weakness of this file format.
I advise you to do the following. Import a CD using Apple LossLess and then import a CD using AAC 256. You will see a HUGE difference.
Now i start to buy CD again in order to get the music Quality. Then i import my CDs to Itunes using Apple LossLess (920Kbps). You will ear that on Snares and Rides. Bass will sound more natural. Bass, Medium, Sharp will more balance with each other. You will hear instruments with more clarity especially when there are a lot of instruments. Because of that, you will not need to raise up the volume.
But more than anything... you will gain VOLUME in your files.
In general over the internet all the online music stores including Itune doesn't provide HD quality. AAC 256 is not enough. A track bought over Itune Store should weight 30 megabytes, not 5. And then you would decide to compress it or not.
