ITunes stutters

Ok, I recently downloaded the new version of iTunes. I also updated my anti-virus/anti-spyware program from McAfee to Norton (I'm a Comcast customer).
Ever since then, my songs will sometimes stutter whenever I click on a link or load a page with a lot of images or something.
Is it Norton that causes this? The new iTunes? I read on some forum that Security was causing this problem.
I also had that CoreFoundation.dll error (but I resolved that by uninstalling, and re-installing iTunes).
This has never happened before. Please help. Anyone else have this problem?

I just updated the Audio options on Quicktime, and it doesn't seem to do it anymore.
I did this yesterday (when I was also having the problem) and it came back today.
Could it be Quicktime?

  • ITunes stuttering skipping, basically a useless program now

At some point during the last few weeks during the seemingly daily updates now with iTunes, I have noticed iTunes stuttering and skipping at various times. I'm up to version 7.5.0.20.
After a reboot sometimes, I can go an hour, and run many other programs before I get the stutter. Other times, it happens immediately after I reboot. And when it starts, there is NO stopping it unless I reboot. It will frequently, randomly stutter, while I am doing just about anything, but is particularly picky when I am scrolling in web browsers and other windows. These skips and stutters are worse than I've ever experienced with CDs in the last 20+ years. I cannot use iTunes anymore. Right now I have the Quintessential player streaming internet radio. I have scanned these forums, and the internet. I have tried everything I have found (about 7-8 different things) and NOTHING fixes this problem. The only other thing besides updating iTunes that has changed on my computer is that I added a new 500gb hard drive, and I have moved my entire music collection to that drive.
Any help would be appreciated. I listen to music through iTunes every day. I need to have this fixed.

Hum, my friend may have given me a hint as to what may be the problem.
I think that it has to do with Quicktime/iTunes not using my sound card to properly decode mp3s...
I have a Creative Soundblaster X-Fi soundcard. It is able to optimize its work using various modes (Entertainment, Audio Creation, Gaming), and I find that the CPU usage of itunes.exe changes depending on which mode I choose, which orients me to a soundcard driver compatibility problem. In Entertainment mode, it oscillates around 5%, in Audio Creation, around 10%...
I say that it is Quicktime/iTune's issue because all my other music playing programs use 0-1% cpu usage even when playing songs. Also, there had been problems between Quicktime and Creative drivers in the past...

  • CPU 100%, Wireless drops, iTunes stutters

This is driving me crazy. I've noticed that when i run some programs like safari, itunes and msn together of recent my cpu goes crazy to 100%. Wireless drops and itunes stutters like crazy. I'm not doing anything different, the programs haven't changed, syslogd is not affecting it.
What the **** is going on? A machine of this speed shouldn't be unable to cope with 3 programs. It has only recently been happening ie past 5 days.

Open Activity Monitor and see if you have a process called "airportd" running. I was experiencing this problem recently and airportd was the culprit. I had to kill the process and the CPU went back to normal. Searching for airportd in these discussions will give you more information.

  • Latency peaks Itunes stuttering

Since I upgraded to Itunes 8, my music stutters a lot.
After someone pointed me on a dpc latency checker, I discovered everytime the latency was very high, itunes stuttered.
I'm not completely sure if Itunes causes the latency or viceversa..
Does anyone know how I can find the cause of the latency/stuttering (and fix it)?

  • ITunes 'stuttering'.

I have a 27-inch, Mid 2011 iMac and just updated to 10.8.3. I thought this update was supposed to fix 'stuttering' issues in iTunes. I have had a bit of an issue with that but after this latest update, it seems to have gotten much worse. Thoughts?

I seem to have recently come across this problem too. To my best recollection, it's only ever been these past few days that iTunes has been stuttering – never have in my ~2 years use of this PowerBook have I had the problem before.
I'm running iTunes 7.0.2, but the odd thing is that 7.0.2 is a relatively old update now. I've been running 7.0.2 for nearly the whole month it's been out without experiencing stuttering, and it's only just been in the past few days that the problem has manifested itself. I'm trying to remember if there was any correlation with the installation of other software, or heavy use of PhotoShop, or something similar – but nope, not to my knowledge. The only other consideration is the size of my library (~25gb), but I haven't added anything to it for a few weeks now.
The Activity Monitor usually also shows a spike in CPU usage – nearly always to 100% capacity – whenever iTunes stutters, but again I can't correlate the spike with any particular activity or program.

  • ITunes stutters when right clicking in explorer

Whenever I right click on a folder in explorer itunes stutters very briefly. I'm playing mp3's on a fairly new laptop. I've never had this problem on older computers. I'm thinking it's an issue between itunes and vista. I was just wondering if anyone knew of a fix.

    Hi,
If it would be visible for a while,  this would not be a group policy setting issue.
For now, a third party software conflict would be a possibility, can you first boot into Safe Mode to confirm this?
If it does not persist in Safe Mode, we can narrow down this culprit by Clean Boot.

  • ITunes stutters - go to dual or quad core?

    Hi all,
I'm looking for somebody who knows about iTunes and also about hardware...
The issue I've been having for more than a year now is that due to my large library (14,000+ songs) and complex and extensive use of smart playlists, iTunes has to 'think' too much whenever a new song starts playing. Usually this causes iTunes to just freeze for 10 to 20 seconds while it updates all the playlists and the music keeps playing, but sometimes it also causes the music to stutter. I haven't been able to determine which situations cause the stuttering in particular, but suffice it to say that doing heavy photo editing in Adobe Lightroom and playing music with iTunes is usually not all that pleasant.
Now I've been wondering whether a dual or quad core processor would solve this problem. Besides the obvious extra speed, am I right in saying that the problem should largely go away because iTunes and Lightroom would be using different processors? Is the problem only with processor speed or does RAM has an influence too?)
Does anybody have some light to shed on this problem?
    Thank you very much.
    Tijl Kindt

I wasn't aware that I was at the bare minimum. The Athlon64 3800+ is a 2.4GHz single-core. System requirements for iTunes are 500MHz and for lightroom a Pentium 4-class processor (say 1.5GHz). Granted, I'm using them both at the same time and especially iTunes at more extreme than usual settings. I'm using Windows XP Home (32-bit) btw...
So, I guess a dual core or quad core it'll have to be then... Too bad it's gonna cost me around €350 though.
If anybody still has some ideas about solving the stuttering software-wise, then I'm all ears.
    Greetings,

  • New version of iTunes stutters/trips out while my music is playing.

A few days ago I downloaded the new version of iTunes and later on I figured out it was a recipe for disaster, almost every song I have in my library stutters or does some thing that distorts the audio during its playback. After all that tom foolery I decided it was time to fix this issue, I tried every ******* logical approach to fixing it, I tried doing stunts on my motorcycles, I tried returning over due library books, I tried participating in my schools talent show, I tried singing some karaoke; in hopes of finally fixing the break in the space-time continuum. Sadly my award winning solutions were futile so Im very upset to say I wont be using iTunes for quite some time. Atleast not until i can hear my music without any stutters in it. So if someone at apple/itunes is reading this: please look into this.

  • ITunes stuttering when running a program.

    Hi there,
After upgrading to a new iMac with Lion, running into issues with iTunes that wasn't present before.  My older 21" iMac (4 GB RAM) ran Maxwell Render ( 3D modeling software) and iTunes with no performance issues.  My new beefed up 27" iMac (12GB RAM) cannot run both without iTunes skipping and stuttering every few seconds.  Any suggestions what might be happening and how to resolve this?

    Hi;
When you define and edit the mapping between the project management role function ID and the financial planning view, category, or group. You can also decide on whether the cost or revenue rate is to be considered for the financial information calculation.
    1. Execute report /RPM/PLAN_INT_PREP to create financial and capacity categories and groups for the bucket or the portfolio items based on the parameters mentioned in the selection screen.
    2. Execute report /RPM/FIN_PLAN_INT to perform the financial planning for a portfolio item for the different portfolio items based on the parameters mentioned in the selection screen.
Prerequisite: For the portfolio item, you must have executed report /RPM/PLAN_INT_PREP before.
    3. Execute report /RPM/BUCKET_ROLLUP to roll up the financial data for the different categories and groups of the portfolio items to its higher-level buckets.
    Hope this help you.
    Best Regards.

  • ITunes-stuttering problems:

The sound is stuttering in iTunes. I think the problem started when I installed third-party components for Quick Time. (Because Quick Time never has been working on my PC I tried this). The sound in Quick Time has always been stuttering, but not in iTunes... Why now???
Now ALL the songs are sounding the same stuttering way...!
When I press the stop\pause button the music fades out, it doesn’t stop immidiately.. It's almost like the whole program crashes.
When iTunes was OK, it played songs smooth. If I tried videos the sound was stuttering..
    I've tried this so far:
    1. Soundcard (RME) drivers updated
    2. DirectX installed
    3. Start-menu\run\dxdiag, and turned ”sound 1” to basic- mode (not full)
    PLEASE, HELP ME!!!
I have search around this forum but until now it seems like no one can help me...
    My computer:
    - Windows XP
    - Pentium 4
    - 2.4 Ghz
    - 1,5 GB RAM

    apple please fix this stuttering.
My system audio interface. RME multiface 2.94 drivers cardbus card.
Only itunes version 7 has the problem. All other apps on machine are okay. itunes 6.0.5 is okay.

  • Streaming video from networked drive to iTunes stutters!

So, my brand new iMac with the optional graphics card can't play movies bought from iTunes without stuttering a little. We store the movies on a recently bought ethernet-capable 250GB drive which communicates with the iMac through a new 100Mbps switch. iTunes plays these movies flicker-free from the local HD, but not over the network. Quicktime has the same issue. That networked drive is the "iTunes Music Folder Location" specified in preferences. This is iTunes 7.0.2. Music streams fine. I've set iTunes' preferences for "streaming buffer size" to "large."
We want to store the movies on the networked drive so we can easily add capacity and access them from other machines on the network. Sounds logical, right? Isn't that what these drives are for? Help! I want my Media Server!
We also watch TV on the iMac, using an Elgato eyeTV 250. It's fine, and caches 2GB of video during playback. When we tell it to write to the networked drive, it stutters a little too. Like one 'jag' every 10-20 seconds. When we use the local disk, it's seamless.
One thought: the iMac is cabeled to that switch with a 100-foot cable. A problem?

  • ITunes stuttering on brand new Air i7. ??

Just purchased a new MB Air - i7 8gb RAM 512GB, ran software update and downloaded a few of my iTunes purchases from the cloud / store. Everything stutters and/or breaks up making the music or video unusable. Any ideas on how I can resolve this? I have a 15" MB Pro that has no issues at all with the same version of iTunes. Thanks...

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • ITunes stuttering Mavericks

    Itunes is stuttering
Logic pro is fine,  so whats  the go here?

Take a look at this Apple doc -> iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins
Maybe you have  out-dated software that was used with an older version of iTunes and is now causing a problem.

  • ITunes stuttering & skipping

I'm streaming iTunes over an Airport Express. It works perfectly with an emac running Panther and a MacBook running Leopard, however it skips & stutters regularly on an iMac, also running the latest Leopard and iTunes. I can't seen to resolve the issue, any suggestions?

I'm running a G5 PPC that I've recently upgraded the harddrive and migrated accounts from a MDD. Both the MDD and the G5 are running 10.5.6 with iTunes 8.1.1 and QT 7.6. On the MDD iTunes played content beautifully...no skipping and no stuttering. After the migration and upgrades applied the G5 iTunes is almost unlistenable. If windows are moved around in Finder iTunes stops and then starts, if programs are opened or closed iTunes stops and then starts. I've tried all of the fixes that are mentioned...downgrading QT, reinstall of iTunes, archive and install of the OS, running an older version of the OS and QT. Applying the updates in a different order, disabling Spotlight indexing, repairing permissions, dumping caches and so on NOTHING is working to fix this issue!
Is it processor utilization? Memory utilitization? What is it! I've spent hours trying to fix this issue but to no avail.
Any thoughts? Any ideas? Please Apple help us our here and fix this issue!

  • Itunes stuttering audio

Can anyone tell me why itunes snd quicktime suffer from audio stutter? its a real pain

Here is what I found when researching the same problem:
    1) Safe mode (waveOut only) - As linked above.
This helped me but didn't fix everything. Mine would stutter and then eventually go to garbage - warbled out sounds. Safe mode got rid of the warble but not the stuttering. I eventually reverted back after I fixed my real problem (below).
    2) IDE switched to PIO - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=351805&tstart=0
This wasn't my problem. If you are having hard drive errors, the system may be using a slower access to minimze the errors, and this affects the playback. Reinstalling the drivers helped some people, somehow.
    3) Intel Wireless Driver - http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=805436
This was my problem! Although it's hard to find it in this long post. If you have an Intel wireless 2100 3a MiniPCI card (like my Dell Latitude D800 does), a 2005 driver for it causes some far-reaching problems. Downgrading the driver fixed everything. Goto Device Manager->Network Adapters->Intel(R) PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 31 Mini PCI Adapter. Then select the Driver tab, and hopefully you have a Roll Back Driver button.

  • Mac mini itunes stutters

Recently, my Mac Mini has been stuttering when playing back iTunes. This is a mid-2011 mac mini with 2 gigs of ram. Seems to be associated with when the visualizer comes on. Perhaps, there isn't enough RAM installed? Anyone have an idea? Worked fine until now.
    Thanks.
    Bob

    Hi Bob,
Quite likely too little RAM, 2 GB is not enough these days, I consider 4GB the minimum for 10.8.x
See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7029
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free Disk space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab of Activity Monitor, are there a lot of Pageouts?
