ITunes "SUMMARY" tab and colored graph

As you might have notice with iTUnes 7, when you plug in your iPod tabs appear and one of the tabs is labled SUMMARY. At the bottom of this tab, there is a colored graph that shows how many/much songs, photos, etc you have on your iPod. I just bought my wife the new nano and sync'd music on there and i have about 320 mb of OTHER? DOes nayone know what OTHER represents 9 It orange on the graph)
THe only thing I put on here is music and photos. No podcast or anything else. Thats alot of space that I can use for more songs...thanks

I was rather shocked at this on my own system, as well. My Summary page shows almost 600MB of "Other". I know it wasn't Contacts, or Calendar, or even my Photos (since the photos are shown in their own separate space). So I did a little research (using tools outside of iTunes).
In my case, it was the Album Artwork, as someone else mentioned. But here's the "catch" -- even though I keep the .JPG files for the Album artwork inside the individual folders where the MP3 files are stored for each album, those are not the "Album Artwork" I'm talking about. Instead, what happens (apparently) is that when you add album art to your songs, those album art thumbnails get stored in a database that is separate from your music, and from photos.
To check this out, have your iPod connected, and "disk usage" activated (i.e., so that you can open Windows Explorer, and look at the iPod as a disk drive). Make sure you're set in Explorer so that you can see hidden system files, then open the iPod_Control folder on the iPod. In it, you should find several "hidden" folders: Artwork, Device, iTunes, and Music. The Music folder contains all the hidden folders that store your music. (They show up in the blue "Audio" section of the Summary.)
However, the Artwork folder contains that database of album art thumbnails -- and on my system, it was almost 500MB in size! As far as I know, there's not much you can do about it (other than NOT including Album Art with your tracks). It's just a huge amount of space needed for that function.

Not with your current user id.
Far too much uneccesary information in your post, which only confuses things, a vast amount!
    Let's start with iTunes.
Have you updated iTunes to 11.1.5, because the previous version did appear to have an issue about seeing iPods?
With iTunes 11.1.5 installed, look in Edit/Preferences/Devices, (or use the ALT key, followed by the E key and then the F key) and make sure that the box named Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically does not have a tick in the box.
Once you have doen those two things, check to see if the iPod is seen by iTunes.

By the way, what does IOS mean? (I thought IO stood for operating system, but am flummoxed by the S on the end.
    Really?
OS stands for Operating System. (In computer speak, IO means Input/Output.)
iOS originally stood for iPhone Operating System, but it now refers to the iPod Touch and iPhone. The iPod Classic, which you have listed in your profile as your iPod, does not use iOS.
I assume that you have been listening to the Podcast in your iTunes on the computer as you cannot transfer it to your iPod. It's what I'd do.

  • How do I change Itunes:summary, keyword and description tags?

    Hey guys,
I have created my podcast in garageband and then uploaded it to Iweb. I submitted my podcast to itunes and it has been approved. The title of the Podcast is Heaven's Lounge and I put it in the music category. Below is the link.
    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=262795345
However, when I do any type of search it says podcast cannot be found.
I have been reading alot of post regarding Itunes summary, keyword and description tags.
How do I go about adding keywords and description tags? I can't figure it out in Iweb.
    Someone please help.
    Thanks

Thats fine, but if you want to sync and backup to itunes and icloud then turn icloud off then sync to itunes, then turn icloud back on and sync and back up to icloud, i always do both to have more than just one of them.
Shouldn't really need to do that.  I have iCloud turned on on my
iPhone all the time, as I do on all my Macs.  I am still able to backup
and sync apps and music to iTunes via USB.  I do keep "Backup to iCloud"
turned off in iCloud preferences on the iPhone.  I do occasionally turn it
on and do a immediate backup to iCloud then turn it back off.  Can't have
    too many backups.
Actually did it this morning while contemplating whether to update to 11.

  • ITunes Summary Tab missing Phone Number info

I know that when I connect my iPhone 3G with iTunes, at the "summary" tab, right after name, capacity, sw/build versions and serial number/udid; there has to be another line where it shows my phone number, but I am missing that for some reason. Is there a way to turn it on? Thanks

Is your phone number entered at Settings > Phone > My Number?

  • Itunes summary tab

Actually, I may have done this more than once. I sort of based my response on how you set your post up for the same type of question, however, with my own spin. My apologies. From now on, I will gladly give you credit for such a thing as well as be a bit more original with my response.
Here is are a few other examples of the posts I mentioned.

The grammatical errors I make are quite sneaky, and regardless of how many times I read the post, (even aloud), I still somehow manage to jump right over them. Thank you.
I would also like to add that I have not done such a thing for any other posts. If anybody would like to look into that feel free to do so.
And again, my apologies. A bit embarrassed.

  • Syncing iphone with itunes from "summary" tab

I normally sync my iphone with itunes.
When I connect the phone, I go to the “info” tab on top, the marked fields to sync are the contacts, calendars and notes. In the rest of the tables, nothing is marked (in the photos tab, sync photos is not marked and in the music tab, sync music is not marked) and the apps usually are copied during the sync as well.
Today, by mistake, instead of going to the “info” tab and pressing sync. I pressed sync as soon as I connected the phone, which is while I was on the “summary” tab. I noticed that the sync went as it does every time (backing up, syncing contacts, calendars, notes, copying apps)
After I was done, I went through the music and photos tabs to make sure they are still not marked, since I only want to sync the contacts, calendars and notes, as usual and I checked, there was nothing different than my usual every time sync. Nothing new was copied except my contacts and calendar entries that I want to sync.
I just want to make sure if it is any different between pressing “sync” while I am on the “summary” tab and pressing “sync” while I am on the info tab. Does it matter which tab I am on, or what matters is the marked fields to be synced?

Okay I think I now know what happens.
    - Just had new apps installed on my iPad
    - Deleted two of the new apps on iPad
    - Connected iPad to MacBook Pro
    - Watched out what happens on iTunes and it didn't show those two apps on the Home Screen preview windows but they were checked on the app list on the left and when I hit "Sync" on lower right corner iTunes placed those apps on one of the Home Screens on the iPad
Now, iTunes on my MBP is set to download any new apps bought on App Store on my iOS devices and when iPad is connected the checkbox for installing new apps automatically is unchecked.
So, for some reason, those new apps that have got downloaded to iTunes on my MBP but are already deleted on my iOS device, on sync iTunes treats them as they would or should be installed on my iPad. I don't know why that is but I think that has to be a bug and I'm reporting it. I thought iTunes checks which apps are installed on connection but it seems to unregonize that those apps were not installed on the iPad anymore.

  • The songs on the iPod on Itunes are grey and can not be changed while in the library are ok, what happen?

the songs on the iPod on Itunes are grey and can not be changed while in the library are ok, what happen?

Connect the device to your computer.
    Open iTunes.
Select iPhone, iPad, or iPod in the Devices list.
Click the Summary tab and select "Manually manage music and videos".
    Click Apply.
Even when you have enabled manual management, you can still sync some content automatically. Select any content tab, such as Video, to enable automatic syncing for that type of content.

What iPad model and what iOS is it currently running? Are you trying to update the iOS via wifi or connected to your computer?
If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

  • User defined field values doesnot show up in summary tab

    Hi,
I have created my own stylesheet to display some of my user defined field values (associated with organization address book entry type) in the summary tab of the addressbook entry. But Groupwise 8.0 client FAILS to display any of the user defined field values in the summary tab FOR ONLY ORGANIZATION ADDRESSBOOK ENTRY types. NOTE: These organization addressbook entries are created using the C++ Groupwise object API. But the Advanced tab of these organization addressbook entry shows those user defined fields with values in it.
Also Groupwise 8.0 Client is able to display the user defined field values in the summary tab for the PERSON ADDRESSBOOK ENTRY types, that are created using the Groupwise Object API. Also when I create a Organization addressbook entry using the Groupwise Client (NEW ORGANIZATION) and fill in the user defined field values using the Advanced tab or that addressbook entry, the summary tab displays those user defined field values.
So there could be some problem in setting the user defined field value for the Organization address book entry using the Object API or it could be Groupwise 8.0 Client issue in displaying the user defined field values ONLY FOR ORGANIZATION ADDRESS BOOK ENTRY, WHICH ARE CREATED USING THE OBJECT API. I also tried to see the underlying XML data in the summary tab and that XML data is missing the USERDEFINEDFIELDS and CATEGORIES tag for the organization address book entry.
I would like to know, if there is any need for special handling only for Organization addressbook entry in Groupwise 8.0 API. Any thoughts or help is really appreciated.

    Hi,
Does anyone have an idea?? Think I have the same issue. Except, when I log in the client (ver. 802) then all the info is displayed. But when the user logs in on the same client and the same pc, he sees the xml info except the office address.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Grtz,

  • Any Config Option to Remove Shelf Life from Material Spec Summary Tab?

    Hi All,
We are on PLMv6.1 and have been using a custom section for Shelf Life for both Trade and Material specs to meet our business needs while we were on 6.0. At this time, we would like to remove the "internal" Shelf Life section from Material Trade specs Summary tab and not have it included in eQ. We have found that having two instances of Shelf Life confusing for users. Is there any method for us to config the Material Shelf Life Section "Off" as there is in the Trade Spec?

At this time, there is no config to turn this off. You may want to consider submitting an enhancement request. you could try utilizing section level editing to disable it, however, it will still be visible. this would not affect eQ, however.

  • ITunes Summary Page  - I Need Help

Need help! My summary iTunes summary page does not show ussage for videos, just music. Yes, I have videos on my iPod. Any suggestions on how to get the summary page to show usage foir videos?

I'm sorry, then, I guess I'm not understanding what it is you're looking for. What do you mean by "iTunes summary page" and what "usage" are you wanting to see?

  • "Itunes cannot read the contents of ipod. Go to the summary tab in Ipod preferences and click Restore to restore this ipod to factory settings." What is this?

I have been getting this error message since about the end of June when I updated to the latest version of iTunes. It's pretty annoying. Let me lay out how this has been happening for the past month, the best I can. I have a 32GB 4th gen iPod Touch
I load content up to my iPod. Music, Apps, Videos, pictures, etc.
My iPod works well for a little while, days sometimes a week is the longest I went without seeing this message.
I connect iPod back to my laptop through the standard pack in Apple USB connector.
I get the "Itunes cannot read the contents of ipod. Go to the summary tab in Ipod preferences and click Restore to restore this ipod to factory settings." message. When I go to the preferences tab, I click restore and iTunes gets stuck trying to restore my iPod. Then I have to uplug my iPod. And Shutdown/Restart my PC reconnect my iPod, and go through the restore process again.
I have been doing this for as I said, a month. It's getting pretty grueling to keep havomh putting cotent on my iPod after these restores.
    I've tried everything.
I've stopped autosync, it still happens.
I tried to reinstall iTunes(be it I didn't full uninstall before trying to install again and got the option to fix corrupted files and such
I've deleted all old back up, and it still happens
Today is the fist time I'm fully uninstalling iTunes, and then reinstalling to see if this works.
But do you guys have any otehr solutions for this? As I said, this didn't start happening until I installed the lastest version of iTunes 10.6.3

    - Have you tried another cable?
    - Another USB port?
    - When you have the problem, connect it to another computer to help determine if you have an iPod or computer problem.
    - Try just restoring the iPod to factory settings/new iPod. Do not restore from backup. If you still have the problem with this and all computer that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
