ITunes SUPER SLOW to open, especially with iPhone

Has anyone else had some extreme problems with even opening iTunes? Each time I open it, it's a 3-4 minute affair. Even worse is if I open it by plugging in my iPhone. I get spinning beach ball for sometimes 5 minutes before it catches up with itself. I don't have a ton of music, nothing special, my computer otherwise runs fine, this is just an iTunes thing. The Sync usually goes fine once iTunes realizes what the heck is going on, so that's not the problem, it's just the actual opening and beginning of the sync. What gives? Thanks for any thoughts or advice...
David

I used the terminal and figured out it was an Intercheck program running through my Sophos Antivirus. Was slowing down the opening of iTunes, and especially when I plugged in the iPhone, as it was first checking it for viruses or something, I presume.

  • Itunes very slow to open on iphone

Every so often, my itunes on my iphone 4 is excessively slow to open - sometimes it just doesn't open and I'm left looking at a blank screen with the "loading..." sign on it the whole time. Possibly related is that my safari will take ages to refresh occasionally too. I assumed there was a reason for it, like when I was in a car it might be switching between cell towers, but then I borrowed my friends iphone 4 and his itunes opened in seconds. Whats going on?

I don't have a definite answer, here are a few things you might check out.
If you have a disk in you DVD drive, take it out.
Try stopping the bonjour service. You can do this in Services. (type services into your search box)
Do you have any iTunes plug-ins - these can be listed by running Diagnostics from the iTunes help menu.
You can start iTunes without plugins as a test: Hold down Ctrl Shift while starting iTunes.
You can check for conflicting programs with MSConfig:

  • Pages 09 slow to open documents on iPhone 4

    Hi
I've got iWork on my iPhone 4 and my iPad 2, as well as iWork 09 on Mountain Lion. I notice when I open a pages file on my iPhone, after it's been created on Mountain Lion and synced with iCloud, it is slow to load. This is after it gives a message about it looking different on iOS compared to my Mac. It then asks me if I want use "Open Copy" instead.
Is the slowness of opening the document due to some conversion? Is there a way of making the Pages documents load faster in some way and can this apply to the rest of iWork as well?
    Thanks

    Hey Ben Gunn,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, multiple apps will not open or access the internet. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.

  • Itunes 11 crashing when apps sync with iPhone 5

After reading several related forums, I am experiencing the crashing of Itunes 11 when synching to my new iPhone 5. I upgraded from the iPhone 4 without problems but now cannot sync with Itunes 11. I am running Mac OS X 10.8.2 on an 8gb Macbook Pro Late 2008 Unibody with 500 GB HD. I made sure to repair and verify and subsequently repair disk permissions.
When trying to sync apps my Itunes 11 crashes (in the 7/7 phase of synching). When I install from the Itunes app store, no crashing for the app. I had Itunes 10.7.2 and it did not crash.
When I de-select the apps from my library to be removed, all other content syncs well. It seems that apps stored on my Mac do not sync and cause Itunes 11 to crash.
After eliminating other possibilities, it appears that Itunes 11 has a bug. This begs for a fix (11.1) very soon. I will have to do app updates through my Iphone 5 until this fix is made.
Am I missing something here that needs fixing? My Itunes app library was in great shape and I do backup my ITunes library ever 6-12 months and have regular Time Machine backups...

I finally found several errors that may all help you who may have the same problem. While each of these steps may or many not help you, here is what I did to achieve a resolution. I will provide the logic as much as I can.
    1. The problem is as above, unchange
Step 1: I made sure that my Mac (late 2008 unibody, running Mac OS X 10.8.2 with all recent updates) was infact working well. I verified and repaired permissions as well as verified and repaired my HD.
Step 2: I went through my iTunes app library and eliminated duplicates as well as apps that 'hung' (apps that would be updated but never leave the update screen- somehow these apps are duplicated- delete one of these to clean up your app update screen.
Step 3: Check for operating mode. You most likely need to run iTunes 11 on Mac OS X Mountain Lion (and possibly Lion) in 64 bit mode. Close iTunes and open your Applications folder. There select iTunes 11 and under the file menu- select Get info. See if your iTunes is running in 32 bit mode*. Uncheck this if 32 bit mode is selected. Close the window and restart Itunes. Try synching with your iPhone or Ipod (touch). This may work.
*Step 4: If you have 32 bit mode checked, think back to if you installed 3rd party plugins. I realized I have a legacy plugin for iToner that forced iTunes 11 to jump back from 32 bit and 64 bit modes. Check your iTunes plugins and either delete or backup/delete plugins.
After doing all this, my iTunes 11 and iPhone 5 started synching again.
I hope this helps. Whenever there are problems in upgrades, check 3rd party plugins! Check that folder to jog your memory!

  • Why cannot iTunes sync movies from iPhoto taken with iPhone

I take little movies with iPhone. (5Mb)
iPhoto copies then to the Mac with the Photos.
    Movie plays in iPhoto.
In iTunes I say Sync event and tick include videos on. The movies are not copied back to the iPhone.
Checked in iPhoto, event says 18 items (17 are photos one is the movie MOV04391.MPG)
In iTunes > Photos tab. the event only shows 17 items.
    Thanks in anticipation...

Try launching iPhoto while holding Option, to create an alternate iPhoto library that you can test with. You can always switch back to the original iPhoto library launching iPhoto while holding Option again.
If it works in the new test library, you'll probably want to switch back to the main library and then rebuild it by holding down the Command and Option keys when launching iPhoto.
Also, when you email photos from the iPhone you should see an option to email as actual size, along with the compressed options.
    WTH.

  • ITunes wont sync any features/updates with iPhone

Hi - I'm sure this is more of a software or iTunes question but whenever I connect my iPhone to my computer, iTunes for some reason won't sync at all with my iPhone. I noticed this when I had the iPhone5 and recently upgraded to an iPhone6. I tried importing music and photos but it will just not work. I also tried checking sync w/ wifi and sync selected songs and photos only, but it won't even go as far as saving those settings on my iPhone. My iTunes indicates that it is syncing for about 1 second and then it'll go back to normal like nothing happened. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! By the way I am currently running mac os x version 10.6.8. My laptop is a little outdated and won't let me update iTunes or my software to a more recent version. Unless I'm being naive and missing something else here.
    Thanks again,
    Gerardo

I was able to fix a problem where iTunes 12.01 would not recognize my iPhone or iPad but the device WAS recognized in iPhoto.
Another website gave me the hint to download and re-install iTunes.  I did this and it worked.  (I also restarted both the Mac and iPhone and iPad afterward for good measure).
Here is the URL for download:

  • ITunes keeps freezing during a sync with IPhone 3Gs?

I have repeated issue with ITunes syncing with my IPhone.  It keeps freezing while backing up the data.  I know there is an order to uninstall and reinstall the components of ITunes but I cannot find what it is.  Can you help?

Check this thread out -> iTunes Crashes while selecting 'include video' in Sync Photos
Try unchecking the "Include Videos" option on the Photos tab in iTunes. You can workaround the issue by adding the videos to your iTunes library and syncing them along with movies and TV shows.

  • Apple TV iTunes super slow downloads

I've had my Apple TV for a couple years.  Never had a single problem.  I use it to stream movies & video from the iTunes store, Netflix, Hulu, Vimeo, etc.  I have a fast broadband connection and view everything in 720p HD.  It's always worked fine.  Instant rentals have been just that... instant.
Just this week, downloads from the iTunes store slowed to a crawl, as if I had gone back to a dial up connection.  3 1/2 hrs. to download a 40 min. show.
I restarted ATV several times.  Nothing.  I restarted my DSL modem and Airport Extreme.  I checked for firmware updates for the AE.  All up to date.  All in good working order.  No network speed problems on any of our Macs or devices in the house.  I downloaded content from Netflix, Hulu, etc. via ATV to check if it was a network problem.  Netflix and Hulu stream fine on the ATV, just as they have in the past.  Only iTunes content is giving me this problem.
Anyone else have this problem?  Anyone have a solution?

Netflix adapts to the connection so that wouldn't be a good way to judge.
If you haven't, check your actual speed (www.speedtest.net)
Try to rule out interference, if on wifi, by using istumbler.net
Ensure you are using your ISPs DNS

  • Dreamweaver very slow when opening files with external links

Is there any way to fix Dreamweaver CS5 (Windows 7, 64bit) when opening files with external references?
For example, I have a very simple CSS file, and toward the top the file has a line that says:
    @import url("https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Ubuntu:500,700");
This causes the file to take around 20 seconds to open in DW. If I comment out the line or remove it, the file opens almost instantly. This behaviour is also present in files that contain an SSI.
DW often crashes before being able to open the file and I need to restart the app.
Can I disable DW from attempting to load the references?? It's obviously what is causing the issue IMO and would love to make DW workable again!

"Enable Related Files" isn't the fix for this issue. It's slightly different - I wanted to still load related files, but only the ones local to the file I was editing.
The fix was to use DW's Resolve To IP Address feature. It required adding a registry value - it fixed the issue straight away

  • Itunes super slow with 52gb library on 1.8ghz iMac G5

    well.
ive always had a playlist for every album in my itunes.... and with 52 gb of music... i have a quite a few.
i recently changed it so that in the source window there is a folder for every artist, and inside the folder there is a playlist for every album...
i want to know if i delete all my playlists, and just use the itunes browser, will this speed up my itunes... or is it just the shear amount of music?
    many thanks

slow as in, when i load itunes, it takes about 15 seconds before i can choose a playlist or scroll through the source window, (spinning beach ball) and when adding music, the spinning beach ball spins for a bout 20+ seconds before they even start to be added to the playlist window...
im guess its the size of the itunes database file being edited by itunes... currently 17mb... so thats what made me think if i were to loose all my playlists and use the browser (something i dont like the idea of, but would do if it would be faster) it would improve things maybe?? With itunes not open my G5 is fine, but when open it is slowing the system down..
yes itunes folder is on boot disk (diff partition) but yes same disk...
i had a few problems with my external, and although its workin fine at the moment, (i dont trust it to store the only copy of my library) so at the moment im unable to move it off... but i may swap in another ide drive to that enclosure soon.

  • ITunes 10.3.1 Problems Syncing with iPhone

Since updating iTunes to version 10.3.1 i have not been ably to sync my iPhone4, when i plug my iPhone in my computer recognises something has been pluged in, but itunes does not detect it! does anyone know of a fix for this?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks to recmd for directing me to the solution for iTunes not "seeing" my iPhone!!
https://discussions.apple.com/message/11761418?messageID=11761418is the link, but I will recap it here:
Win XP machines that are seeing the iPhone as a camera or portable drive, but not showing in iTunes should do this - takes 5 minutes!!
    Connect iPhone
    Open Control Panel
    double click on System
    choose Hardware tab
    click Device Manager
find iPhone - probably under Imaging Devices
    right click iPhone
    choose Properties
    click driver tab
    choose Update Driver
select "Install from list or specific location" and click Next
choose "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install" and click next
there should be 2 drivers listed; highlight Apple Mobile Device driver
    click ok
    iPhone should now connect
close out of Device Manager and Control Panel
open iTunes and see your iPhone appear!!
You may have to do this with all phones that you sync.
Hope this helps - it worked for the phones in our family!

  • Freeing HD space from iTunes without losing content during Sync with iPhone

    Hey, Y'all!
This is probably a common question — but I had some trouble finding a specific answer by a few attempts at searching. So please forgive any redundancy...
I desperately need to free HD capacity on my MacBook Pro, and parts of my iTunes Library would make good candidates. The entire home/Music folder is already backed-up to an ext. HD (more than 1x).
But I'd prefer to NOT lose whatever I delete from my MacBook Pro's HD when I sync with my iPhone 3Gs and my son's iPod Touch. Both devices have plenty of capacity for what they're holding currently.
How do I set up sync parameters to accomplish this using, e.g., the Music and Videos tabs in the iTunes interface with these devices? And when — do I alter these settings "before" doing the removals from my HD? The answers may be obvious, but unfortunately not to me.
Hope I've made sense in stating my questions. I'm using iTunes 8.2.1 (6) if that's a factor in this...

  • ITunes 9.2 not syncing music with iPhone 3GS?

I'm suddenly having trouble syncing music to my iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.0.1.
I have iTunes set up so that it will only sync selected playlists, artists, and genres. When I make any changes to the selections, iTunes remembers it (even after closing and re-opening) but when I use the sync button, the music or playlists do not transfer. I see iTunes backing up the iphone, transferring purchased items, syncing applications, and then it finishes without transferring anything else.
    Anybody seen this before?

Disable your firewall and then try. Once synching begins, then enable your firewall. Simple.

  • Upgrade to iTunes 10.1 won't sync with iPhone

I upgraded iTunes to 10.1 and it will no longer sync with my phone. I get the error message 'iTunes is unable to load provider data from sync services. Reconnect or try later.' I am working with Vista on my PC, iTunes 10.1 and my iPhone has 4.2.1 software.
Has anyone expereinced this? Know of any fixes?

Thank you for your help. I have one final question - is there a way to revert the iphone back to the older version of iOS that worked with 9.2.1? He was using it up through Christmas time, and I think his boss must have updated it to the new version of iOS when he took it, which caused it to not work with his computer anymore. He doesn't use the computer regularly so he doesn't want to dump money into the newer OSX if he doesn't have to.
    Thanks for your time!
