Itunes sync = 2x songs

Recently my songs purchased from the itunes store were stored on my iphone via icloud where I could only play the songs when connected to the internet via wifi or 3g. So I "downloaded" the songs (permanently?) via wifi. When I next connected my phone to my laptop and "synced" their became 2 copies of the songs on my phone. Can anybody please tell me how to get rid of the copies?

How can I sync ALL my songs to my 16 GB iPad, but sync only my CHECKED songs to my 8 GB iPhone?
I don't want to create new users or separate libraries or whatnot.
Leave EVERYTHING checked, create playlists for each device and sync only those playlists to each device.

  • Itunes syncing same songs

itunes syncs same songs that i already have in my library. can someone please tell me how to stop this?

Me too. Any song or video I recently played on iTunes, syncs when I connect my Touch to my Mac. I already have the songs/videos in the Touch. Why does it sync them again?

  • Can iTunes sync multiple songs with the same name?

My iTunes library has multiple songs with the same name (but they point to different files on the filesystem).
Curiously when iTunes syncs to my iPhone it will only ever sync two of the files, even if more exists. I suspect what is happening is described below, but I have no way of verifying it:
Let's assume I have 5 songs named IdenticalName, on the filesystem these are named IdenticalName.mp3, IdenticalName 1.mp3, IdenticalName 2.mp3, and so on.
I suspect iTunes is syncing the filename without a number postfix, and the file with the "1" postfix and not continuing with the rest of the files.
Has anyone seen similar behaviour? Did you find a workaround (other than renaming your tracks)?

can you manually discover the new instances on the new server?
Then just make sure the name that appears in Grid Control is different.
e.g. prod.world is on server A and B. When you discover in Grid control, you can make it prod_B and you will see the latter without any problem.

  • ITunes syncs every song everytime

instead of just syncing new songs and newly played songs, my iTunes will delete all the songs from iPhone and re sync the ones in the playlists and any new ones and then choose a random selection of songs to sync also. It's not handy when all I want to do is sync a couple new songs and then have to wait while another 1500 I already had on my phone be synced!
Is there any solution as its really irritating that such a massive company like Apple have such ridiculous issues.

I've been struggling with this same problem for months.  I haven't solved it but one thing I've learned along the way is that if the song is appearing as grey letters instead of black that means its only partially downloaded to the phone.  If you go in and redownload it on your phone it should be selectable/uncheckable, etc.  The problem I'm running into now is after I download, then delete said songs they just show up again.

  • ITunes syncs same songs everyday

As the thread title states, my iPod Classic syncs the same 100 songs once everyday. Nothing has changed with the songs and I haven't played the songs since I put them on the iPod. How can I stop this from happening everyday?
    Thanks

Just to clearify, from what I read. He doesn't want to get a different 100 songs the next time. Just that everytime he plugs in his ipod it'll re-sync the same 100 songs. Example: He'll plug it in and it'll sync these 100 songs. Then he'll eject. Then after usage. Re-plug it back in and it'll sync the same exact songs over to the ipod and he'll have to wait again for the songs to be transfered over. It's an endless loop of having to wait for the same exact songs to be transfered/sync'ed over to the ipod. He wants to know how to stop the ipod from re-syncing the songs over to the ipod when it's already on the ipod.
Please let me know if I'm correct.
I don't know the problem but I have had this happen to me a couple times. But after the second sync it wouldn't do it again. But hopefully someone has a fix.

  • Itunes syncing unticked songs to iphone

    Hi,
I've just updated to itunes 11.1 and my iphone 4S to ios 7. I've unticked a load of songs and albums in my itunes, but the unticked songs still appear on my iphone.
In the Summary tab I have "Sync only ticked songs and videos," and in the music tab I have "selected playlists, artists and genres" and "Automatically fill free space with songs" ticked.
Can someone please tell me where I'm going wrong?

    Hi sawpaw,
One of the new features of iOS 7 is the ability to show all of your purchases in your Music Library.
Click on the link below to see page 62 of the iPhone User Guide for iOS 7
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
You can change the Settings > iTunes & App Store to turn this feature off for Music

  • Myriad iTunes sync issues - song cutoffs - artwork problems - yeech!

    Hi all,
I’m running the latest version of iTunes on a (late 2013) Macbook Pro Retina laptop, and having several different flavors of syncing issues with my two devices –  a 16 gb iPhone 4S running iOS 7.1, and a 32 gb iPod Touch 3rd Gen running iOS 5.1.1.
As best I can tell, some syncing issues such as one of the ones I am experiencing (songs chopped-off when transferred and attempted to playback from the device) have existed in some way, shape or form for nearly 10 years now, so I’m not expecting any grand revelations here - but just looking for some honest advice on how to resolve in the shortest amount of time & with the least pain considering I have a fairly large music library in terms of syncing time required.  That being said, below bulleted-out are my current issues / frustrations / thoughts on where the problems may lie.   I would appreciate any advice:
Purchased iTunes songs (ripped MP3’s from CD’s that I own and tracks from other sources do not seem to have the problem…) play fine in iTunes on my laptop, but when transferred to either my iPhone or iPod, they will randomly (it’s not every track) be cutoff near the end of the song.  Sometimes the song will stop with 2 minutes remaining and go silent. Sometimes it will stop with 15 seconds remaining and go silent.  Sometimes it will stop somewhere in that time range and start the next track on the album while still displaying the info from the previous track.  The only solution I have found to this for purchased content thus far is to wipe everything out, and go back and download the tracks from the cloud.  I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000 tracks that fall into this category, so my options to download directly to the device an artist at a time are kind of time-consuming and cumbersome.  Would this have something to do with the file format of purchased tracks vs. ripped ones? I have a lot of older ripped material that was imported as MP3’s or MP3’s converted to M4A’s that never seems to have this problem.  The newer purchased files are mostly ACC’s which DO have the problem.   Also would this have anything to do with the fact that my library (including most of the purchased content) was recently moved over and imported to a new Macbook from a Windows backup?  Most of my iTunes library was Windows / PC for the majority of its existence for the past decade or so; we only recently switched back to Mac.
Discrepancies between deleting material on a device vs. what iTunes recognizes when it is plugged back in:  The other day, being frustrated with the random song chopping, I deleted everything on my iPod Touch 3rd Gen by going into Settings, Options, General, and “Usage” and then “Edit” and selecting to wipe out everything in iTunes. The device appeared to do this, and I was showing 28 gb or so free out of 32 once it completed.  Great, right?  I proceeded the rest of that day to painstakingly download approx. 900 tracks from the cloud onto the device, hoping to correct the chopping issue.  It did this, and I still had roughly 10 gb free. Great, right?  Later that night when I plugged the iPod into my Macbook with the 30 pin to sync, iTunes on the laptop for some reason still recognized the songs which I thought I had deleted hours earlier and showed me multiple copies of everything.  For the ones that had been deleted, when I clicked to play them on the iPod through iTunes, I got the little gray exclamation point - ! – in a circle like when a track has moved libraries and cannot be found.  iTunes then told me my sync could not be completed due to being over capacity on the device by a ridiculous 12 gb or something like that. Huh?? I could have gone through and manually deleted the (by that point more than 1000) duplicate tracks and synced to have made room I suppose – but after accidentally hitting Autofill – iTunes threw up its hands and would not let me do anything further.  Any attempts at that point to delete either pending Autofill tracks or missing duplicate tracks just led to endless spinning on the “Preparing Update” notice on the device which led to me having to kill iTunes.  Can you say big-time frustration?  I eventually opted to restore the iPod to factory (iOS 5.1.1) settings and start over.  That device is currently at home slogging through the process of attempting to re-download 400 some songs from the cloud over wi-fi so that I can avoid the cutoff track problem.  The plan after that is to sync playlists for certain artists over top of the purchased tracks so that my ripped tracks can merge with them to round out the playlist. Do you see how this is beginning to become a marathon?
Last but not least - it seems to be just since the last few iTunes upgrades for Mac, but I’m having a huge problem suddenly with album artwork staying synced properly. After one recent manual transfer session (30 pin between the iPhone and the Macbook) roughly half of the tracks I transferred had mismatched artwork.  Doing this through the cloud (downloading tracks “Not on this iPhone” via the iTunes app) doesn’t seem to have the same problem, but of course this takes longer. Also, what is the deal with “Show All Music” in iOS 7 and playing tracks from the cloud?  This is a really cool feature that allows you to save a ton of disk space on your device, but I have found that when I do this that many tracks have mismatched artwork.  For example right now I’m listening to a Grateful Dead song that is displaying Genesis artwork.  Huh?? Artwork is less of a big deal than the track lengths being chopped off, but it’s still annoying.
iTunes revolutionized the music industry and on the whole has been fantastic.  But it seems as if lately, little irritating problems like the syncing issues are becoming more and not less prevalent, and the problem is they aren't being dealt with.  I got my first Mac in college nearly 20 years ago now, and have been generally entrhalled with Apple products ever since.  But I have to say that this kind of junk lately is more what I would expect in the vein of problems from the shoddy-PC world that seem to linger and never get fixed.  Cupertino folks - what's the deal???

You're not the only one judging by the forums!
Likewise I have been using Apples since the Apple IIe(!) and have found them great in every respect. iTunes however over the past couple of years has deteriorated to th point of being unuseable. Apple has made iTunes the hub of your digital life and so it really has to work seemlessly.
I currently have had to completely wipe and re-install my 64Gb iPhone 4s several times to get my music back on to it. I cannot het any playlists to sync which is really annoying and it generally undermines my faith in Apples software quality.
Please put whatever resources are necessary to fix this soon Apple or you will certainly start to haemorrhage customers to other platforms. After all if iTunes remains broken then what's the point of paying the extra for Apple qulaity? You may as well uplaod ebverything to Google play and be done with it!

  • ITunes syncing the wrong songs to my iPod

I have recently been trying to sync my iPod with my iTunes library, and have been repeatedly failing. After slowing the process and attempting to do it a few songs at a time, I noticed that it was including songs I had not asked it to include. While trying to sync the songs I hadn't asked for, iTunes froze, mid-sync. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, has anyone found a solution?
    Thanks.

if you want to add songs they must be checked, put them in asong list as it makes them easier to manage

In iTunes, try signing out of your Apple ID & then back in: click on iTunes Store on the left sidebar of iTunes, click on your Apple ID on the top right, sign out, sign back in.  Then try to sync your purchased music to your phone again.

Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
If so have you done anything like update iTunes on the computer since it last successfully synced?

  • Itunes says the songs are synced, but they are not on the ipod.

I recently erased everything off of my computer because it had a virus. I'm pretty sure this is why this has happened, but I have no idea how to fix it.
What's happened is my iPod has over 100 songs on it, but when connected to the computer it says it has zero. I figured "no big deal." But it was. When I went to sync my songs onto my iPod, something happened. From iTunes, when I click on my iPod to view the songs, it has only the ones that I had just synced. Then when I unplugged my iPod to listen to them, the newly synced songs weren't there.
I have no idea why uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes did this, since I've done that before when I was having problems with my computer. I would just use a different computer, but none are very convienient and it was a lot of songs that I tried to sync, so I'd have to import all of those into the other computer's library.
I really don't want to have to restore my iPod if there's another way to fix this problem, because I don't want to do that if it won't definitely work. I have a lot of songs there that are no longer in my library (backed up and still on the external server, but its a lot to import individually.) that are on my iPod that I would still like to have on it.
I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me. I have no clue what's wrong...

This Apple knowledge-base article may help address that issue.

  • Suddenly, can't sync any songs from iTunes to iPhone, other help topics suggestions, not helping me :(

Everytime I try to sync any of my songs onto my iPhone 4, I get an error message that says: "Some of the items in the iTunes library, including "(song name)", were not copied to the iPhone "iPhone Name" because they could not be found." and then it stops syncing. It says there are 13 problems. Then when you expand to see the files, each one says: "(song name)"" was not copied to the iPhone "iPhone Name" because it could not be found." It can be any song, an old song from 7 years ago that I got off Limewire, or a song from a CD, or it can be a song I paid for from the iTunes store. Doesn't matter.
Couple weeks ago, I had no problems. Purchased new songs and had them in playlists on my phone. Then a couple days ago, I plugged my iPhone into the computer (to charge it), and suddenly my songs were removed off the iPhone. So I tried to put them back on, kept getting this error. So I googled it. I have spent the past 4 days TRYING to get things to work. I have looked through all the other similar questions, and tried suggestions on there. Nothing is working.
    - There is no exclamation point beside any of my music.
    - I have not changed the hard drives (I don't use my computer daily, probably once a week), (Windows is up to date also).
    - I have tried re-adding the songs to the library.
    - Everything still plays in iTunes.
    - If I click on the file in its location, it will open it and play it in iTunes.
    - I tried deauthorizing my account then reauthorizing it, didnt work.
    - I have even removed all my music off my phone to see if that works, now I have 15 songs on it.
I did find it odd that when I looked in my purchased playlist, they were not there, but they are on the computer and on the purchased list (under the iTunes store on the side menu). At least I can use my iPod for when I'm in the car, but now I have to carry that around too, I'm getting quite frustrated. Normally I'm quite computer savvy, but I'm totally stuck on this one. And like most people, I rely on my iPhone WAY to much and let the little things affect my daily life. I hope SOMEONE can please help me?!?
(I don't know if it may even have to do with the fact that yesterday I finally got my iPhone updated to the latest IOS, (cuz I was finally able to download the update from iTunes... Unless that was a separate update) the one where it's like "do you want to cancel, download only, download and install").

After calling Apple Support. They kind of helped me. Since they pointed me in the right direction, I was able to fix the problem.
They were not actually songs, but ringtones I created in an app (and probably moved its location). Suddenly problem solved! Lol!

This worked for me an hour ago and has allowed me to sync ok. Still haven't tried downloading the new version 5 to the phone yet as I'm still backing up photos etc just in case.
    1. Quit itunes
    2. Start an elevated command prompt (Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> right click Command Prompt -> Run as Administrator)
    3. Once in the command prompt type the following 3 words starting where your cursor is flashing: netsh winsock reset
    4. press ENTER
    5. Reboot your machine
    6. Restart itunes & connect device to sync
