ITunes Sync causing Alarms to Disable

Every time I sync my iPhone with iTunes my Alarms get disabled on my phone, I've had a new iPhone via Insurance after dropping it, the new iPhone does exactly the same?
Is there any file I can delete on my PC Relating to Alarms only so it stops doing this? Gets annoying because I use them for getting up in a morning

Contacts are designed to be synced with a supported address book application on your computer and the same for calendar events. Please don't say you have all your contacts and calendar events available on your iPhone only which can be lost or stolen and if a lost or stolen iPhone is replaced, a problem can develop with the iPhone's backup which includes a significant amount of data preventing any of the data from being restored on a replacement iPhone.
Restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup will not prevent you from restoring your iPhone from the previous backup. This will determine if the problem lies with your iPhone's backup that was transferred from your iPhone that was replaced. If the same does not occur after restoring as a new iPhone, the problem lies with the backup and if so, you will need to live with it or syncing your contacts and calendar events with a supported application on your computer as designed and intended.

  • ITunes syncing my podcasts to a different iPod

We have an iMac running Mac OS X (Tiger). I have a 5G 30GB iPod and my son has a 4GB Nano. Each of us has our own account (mine is the admin. account) and our own separate music libraries in iTunes.
Once when I was working under my account, I wanted to charge his Nano's battery. When I plugged it into our Mac, I got the message stating that his iPod was synced to another account. My options were to either erase his Nano and sync it to my library or to cancel. Naturally, I selected "CANCEL". But interestingly enough, the podcasts I subscribed to started to sync to my son's Nano. Once the sync was complete, I checked my son's Nano and, sure enough, there they were.
So, not wanting my 8-year old to hear the exploits and musings of those wacky madcaps at "beer.com", I logged off my account, logged on as my son, plugged in his Nano, synced up with iTunes, deleted the podcasts from iTunes, synced up again and finally set the parental lock to disable podcasts. All is well.
Now whenever I plug in his Nano to charge it when my account is active, the same message comes up as before. When I select "CANCEL", iTunes still shows the podcasts syncing to my son's Nano but (as near as I can tell) they aren't actually getting there. I still make a habit of checking just to make sure they don't get there.
My questions are: Have I got something set wrong somewhere to cause iTunes to try to sync podcasts to my son's Nano, or is this just the way iTunes works? Why does iTunes show podcasts syncing to the Nano when I have both disabled podcasts on the Nano AND selected not to sync it to my iTunes library? Is the parental control to disable podcasts only a part of the iTunes software and not the Nano itself? In other words, can my iTunes library not tell that my son's Nano is not supposed to get podcasts, or is syncing podcasts simply based on the iTunes settings for the active account irrespective of whose iPod is plugged in at the time?
Right now it is not a big issue as all podcasts are currently disabled on his account. If he ever wanted to subscribe to some more age-appropriate podcasts, however, then I assume I'll be able to set something somewhere to keep the more adult-themed material from getting on to his Nano irrespective of whose account is active when I plug in his Nano to charge it. The other options, of course, are to only plug in his Nano to the Mac when his account is active or to charge it from a plug-in.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me on this issue.
      Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Sorry I forgot to ask How. Do I export the library? When I choose this my only choice is a .txt file. Or do I backup the whole library.
As much info. as possible would be appreciated
    Thanks

  • My iPhone doesn't sync to iTunes, iTunes syncs back to my phone

I tried to sync my iPhone 3G but instead of syncing all my new songs and folders to iTunes, iTunes synced back to my phone. Lost over 200 songs and all my folders. Use my phone in my fitness classes, all of my folders were set up with my songs for certain classes, at least 6 months of work got lost. Also, I have over 40 apps, non of them shows up in my iTunes store. Very frustrating
Please help, iTunes and iPhone giving me an ulcer and sleepless nights! Can I get my lost folders/songs/apps back? And how can I do that? How can I avoid this happening again?

The iPhone, like all iOS devices, is not and has never been a backup device.
If content is missing from the computer, copy it from the old computer or the backup of the old computer.
Not syncing regularly is simply asking for problems.
Devices are easily lost, stolen, or simply fail.  In your case, had your device simply failed or been lost you would be out of everything.
Unfortunately, if they are not on the device or in iTunes on the computer they are gone.
The only reason syncing would cause them to "disappear" is because this is not the computer the device is synced with.
I would strongly encourage you to read the User's Guide to better understand how the device is designed to be used.

My ipad is saying connect to itunes because it has been disabled. but my itunes says i need to unlock it before i cant do anything. i need help.

    Hi Stephanie,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're going to have to put the iPad in to recovery mode before you can restore it. The article linked below provides more details about the passcode lock and will walk you through putting the process of restoring from recovery mode.
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
    Use recovery mode
Follow these steps if you never synced your device with iTunes, if you don't have Find My iPhone set up, or if you can't get to your own computer. You'll need to put your device in recovery mode, which will erase the device and its passcode. Then you'll restore your device as new or from a backup.
Disconnect all cables from your device.
    Turn off your device.
Press and hold the Home button. While holding the Home button, connect your device to iTunes. If your device doesn't turn on automatically, turn it on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode.
Click OK, then restore the device.
    Cheers!

  • 2008 R2/ Win7 Offline Files Sync causing High Load on server

    Hi Everyone,
I have recently been investigating extremely high CPU Usage from the System Process on my company's main File Cluster.
We managed to track SRV2.sys Threads causing high CPU load within the system process, but was having issues identifying why this was the case.
As per Microsoft's direction via support call, we have installed the latest SRV2.sys Hotfixes, but this does not appear to have allivated the issue we are experiencing. We have also added more CPU and Memory into both nodes, which has not helped either.
We have since managed to create a system dump and is being sent to MS Support for analysis.
I have noticed the following that appears to happen on our cluster:
Whenever our CAD/Design department run certain functions within their apps running on a windows 7 client (apps include MicroStation, Revit, AutoCAD etc) we see a massive spike and flatline of the system process.
We found several users with Windows 7 clients that have Configured Offline File to sync an entire Network Volume (some volumes are 2TB Plus, so would never fit on a users computer anyway, i was quite shocked when I found this). How we spotted this was through
Resource Monitor, the System Process was trolling through all the folders and files in a given volume (it was "reading every single folder). Now, while this was the system process, we could identify the user by using the Open Files view in Server Manager's
    Share and Storage Management tool.
I have done a fair bit of research and found that a lot of CAD/Drawing applications in the market have issues with using SMB2 (srv2.sys). When reviewing the products that we use, I noticed that a lot of these products actually recommended disabling SMB2
and reverting to SMB1 on File Server and/or the clients.
I have gone down the path of disabling SMB2 on all Windows 7 clients that have these CAD Applications installed to assist with lowering the load (our other options are to potentially shift the CAD Volumes off our main file cluster to further isolation these
performance issues we have been experiencing.) We will be testing this again tomorrow to confirm that the issue is resolved when mass amounts of CAD users access data on these volumes via their CAD Application.
We only noticed the issue with Offline Files today with trying to sync an ENTIRE Volume. My questions are:
Should Offline File sync's really cause this much load on a File Server?
Would the the size of the volume the sync is trying to complete create this additional load within the system process?
What is the industry considered "Best Practice" regarding Offline Files setup for Volumes which could have up to 1000+ users attached? (My personal opinion is that Offline Files should only be sync of user "Personal/Home" Folders
as they users themselves have a 1 to 1 relationship with this data.)
Is there an easier way to identify what users have Offline Files enabled and "actually being used" (from my understanding, Sync Center and Offline Files are enabled by default, but you obviously have to add the folders/drives you wish to sync)?
If I disable the ability for Offline Files on the volumes, what will the user experience be when/if they try to sync their offline files config after this has been disabled on the volume?
Hoping for some guidance regarding this setup with Offline Files.
    Thanks in Advance!
    Simon

    Hi Everyone,
Just thought I would give an update on this.
While we're still deploying http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2733363/en-us to
the remainder of our Windows 7 SP1 fleet, according to some Network Traces and XPerf that were sent to MS Support, it looks as though the issu with the Offline Files is now resolved.
However, we are still having some issues with High CPU with the System Process in particular. Upon review of the traces, they have found a lot of ABE related traffic, leading them to believe that the issue may also be caused by ABE Access on our File Cluster.
We already have the required hotfix for ABE on 2008 R2 installed (please see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2732618/en-us), although we have it set to a certain value that MS believe may be too high. Our current value is set to "5", as that is the lowest level of any type of permission is set (i.e. where the lowest level of inheritance
    is broken).
I think I will mark this as resolved regarding the Offline Files issue (as it did resolve the problem with the Offline Files)...
Fingers crossed we can identify the rest of the high load within the System Process!!!

  • IPod,  iTunes Syncing on Leopard + Apple Wired Keyboard = Hang and problems

Sorry for the cryptic topic title but I search liked crazy and through several different sites I managed to hobble together a configuration that reproduces my problem. Maybe those terms will helps others...
Anyway, I have Mac Pro with OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and a 5G video iPod. Just recently during iTunes syncing it began to randomly hang quite early on in the process. No itunes is still responsive but it just stays on the same song forever, never making any progress. I did restore, auto vs. manual, disk space enable/disable every combination of iTunes and iPod settings I could try.
The crazy part is that I HAVE fixed the problem but I wanted Apple and others to know what to do and that is needs to be fixed correctly
Recently (same time iTunes started failing) I got the new Apple wired keyboard (love it!) but it IS the problem (or rather the combination of stuff). If I just unplug that keyboard during the iTunes sync it works every time, plug it back in and it hangs again next time iTunes syncs.
So maybe someone else is having this problem, I hope you find this forum and I hope Apple already knows about this glitch.
    Thanks!

I'm only going to tackle one of your issues; that of "recently added" playlists being whacked out when added to iPhones/iPods.
Here's the issue: You set up a smart playlist with a "recently added" criterion. The playlist looks fine in iTunes, and it displays all the recent music you've added to your library properly.
You then sync to your iPhone, and low and behold, all the tracks in that playlist do not match anything that had shown in iTunes. Believe it or not, this is a really old iTune bug. If memory serves me, it goes back to iTunes 6 or maybe earlier.
There are two known work arounds:
    1) you turn off "live updating." This is very poor work around, because most people use a recently added playlist to automagically add their newest music to their device. Turning live updating off defeats the point.
2)create a second smart playlist that points to the first one. What I mean is, if you have a playlist called "Newest 250 tracks" and that is the smart playlist that shows up incorrectly on your iphone, then set up a second smart playlist called "Newest 250 tracks iPhone" and the only criterion in it, is that is populates from playlist "Newest 250 tracks." It will then look identical to your first playlist, but because it doesn't contain a "recently added" criterion in itself, it will avoid the bug. So sync to that second tiered playlist, and all is well.
Yes it's stupid to have to make a second "meta" playlist for every recently added playlist, but c'est la vie.

  • ITunes sync hangs on Calendars

There are so many threads and discussions on this and similar that i decided to try and start fresh and provide users out there with a detailed description of my issues and how I finally resolved it. Some of my paths to resolution may have been unnecessary.
I suspect if I had simply upgraded my iPhones IOS from the get go I MOST likely would have fixed the issue then and there!!!
Suggest you read this first - then make your own call!!
    Systems:
    Mac Air:
    - Mountain Lion v10.8.2
    - MS Outlook for Mac 2011 v14.2.4  (using IMAP for several gmail a/c's and others)
    - iTunes v10.7
    - iCal v6.0 (1645)
N.B.: before upgrading to Outlook 2011 I experienced many bad experiences with corrupt Entourage d'bases. Net result was I set up Mac Mail to run as a background process (same IMAP connections etc) - this paranoid approach continued even after upgrading to Outlook 2011. Result - complete confidence that I have a full set of all my mail history should MS die an ugly death again!!!
    iPhone 3GS
    - previously running IOS v5.??
    - now running IOS v6!! more on that later!!
    History:
After a recent OSX upgrade and a MS update (both coincided within a few days if i recall correctly) when syncing my iPhone (running IOS v5.??) iTunes sync started to hang at Step 3: calendars.
I followed all manner of suggestions from this community and others to no avail.
So this is what I did:
Ensured Mac Mail was complete and up to date as well as backed up to Time Machine AND I generated archive copies just in case!!!
Followed the steps to completely remove MS Office.
    Reinstalled MS Office from scratch.
{side note: got to last stage of install and had a really hard time completing because syncservicesagent would not die!!!! This support article resolved that and enabled me to move on ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
"In the Terminal window, type or paste the following command on a single line:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/resetsync.pl full
    ... close side note}
Here I made an error. I set up Outlook again whereas I should have thoroughly tested iPhone syncing via iTunes to iCal without Outlook in the mix.
Reset mail and calendar settings in Outlook - got it syncing with iCal again.
Plugged in iPhone - iTunes sync still hangs!!!!!!
Kick some stuff - generally vent some annoyance.
Hit iPhone software restore in iTunes and go through the process of restoring the iPhone which actually upgrades you to IOS v6 (which I wasn't ready to do but so far so good).
    iTunes sync no longer hangs!!
Tested all permutations of meetings ...
from iPhone  - turns up in Outlook
from Outlook - turns up on iPhone
from iCal - turns up in both
Only remaining weirdness is that whilst the iPhone and Outlook seem to be talking just fine - meetings generated in Outlook or on iPhone don't show up in iCal yet I thought iCal was the conduit!! My suspicion is it is something to do with iCal Calendars and Outlooks Categories not being compatible. Anyway's net result meetings sync between iPhone and Outlook.

Yes, I'm running ESET NOD32. I've disabled NOD temporarily but it still hangs on Calanders when syncing! Any ideas?
Many thanks. There's a couple of alternatives.
Either try the procedure in Samoreen's post:
Re: iTunes 11.1.4.62 freezes while syncing with Outlook
Or, see if you can get hold of the Eset beta addressing the problem. As Samoreen notes in another post:
ESET have a workaround for this issue. They gave me access to a test version of the HIPS module and this fixed the problem. So I could re-enable the ESET_OPTIONS environment variable (although I still consider that it's a questionable idea). I upgraded to iTunes 11.1.5.5 and there was no problem.
So maybe you should get in touch with ESET support and request the new module ? Just send a message to Marcos in the ESET forum.

A friend can't update her iPad (1) operating system as it keeps telling her to do, as her Internet timed out after 12 hours.  Can we use my PC with a fast Internet or will that mess up my iTunes, syncing etc?  Should she just find an apple store?

    - She can try disabling the the security software on here computer during the download and update.
    - Update the iPad on your computer will not mess up yur computer or iPad. However, she will then have to restore the iPad on her computer if she want to sync to that computer. Also, unless all the media is on your computer it will not be on her computer after the update.

iTunes, Sync Contacts, Selected groups is grayed out.  I have a number of groups in my Contacts for different mobile phones.  After updating iTunes and the OS I can not click on Selected groups.  Does anyone know how to make this available?

Best I’ve been able to figure out via trying and searching:
It appears only groups in a cloud service can be selected, so if one doesn’t have iCloud groups or groups on some other supported cloud service, the option is grayed out.
    Big Brother wants it all.
Fortunately I don’t need many contacts on my iOS device since I use it little.
But it’s still annoying to be locked out ’cause me try to avoid Big Brother much as possible.
    What a world!

  • Outlook itunes sync addin error

After installing iTunes 7.3 I tried to launch Outlook 2003 and it crashed. I relaunched Outlook 2003 and got a message that said "Outlook experienced a serious error the last time the addin 'outlook itunes sync addin' was opened. Would you like to disable this add-in?"
When I disable the add-in my iPhone won't sync with my Outlook contacts, calendar, mail, etc.
I understand that this add-in is required for iPhone sync with Outlook, so I am in a bit of a catch-22.

I just found out about this solution at:
    http://www.everythingiphone.com/forum/windows-pc-and-iphone/outlook-crashes-due- to-itunes-sync-add-in-3762.html
Apparently what we need to do is add iTunes to the Data Execution ignore list. How to do that you ask?
    http://www.updatexp.com/dep-exceptions.html
After adding iTunes to the Data Execution ignore list, just re-enable the confounded addin as detailed in above posts. Hopefully this will solve this **** problem once and for all. Good luck!!

  • Itunes sync 'AppName' failed to install.

I dont understand why i get this sometimes when trying to sync an app to my device (message shows on device itself)
certain provisioning profiles just dont work. I will usually fumble around, creating new ones until i get one to work.
    The latest attempt:
I created the provisioning profile on the iOS developer site.
    I included 2 udids.
    downloaded
I created the app, it works on one device, but not the other
itunes sync 'AppName' failed to install.
ok, let me test again,  so i go create a new profile for just one UDID (the UDID that was working a moment ago)
itunes sync 'AppName' failed to install.
    What!!! WHY!
Its like some profiles are corrupt or something? What can i be missing here?
for one example, both udids are in the profile, why would the .ipa install on one, but not the other?
    (installing from 2 different comptuers)

Any suggestions you can think of? I have now lost all ability to test the app even on my own device. It seems to provisioning profiles are the cause?
with itunes, the device itself gives the unhelpful error itunes sync 'AppName' failed to install.
with the iphone configuration utility, the program errors:
Could not install the application on device. Error: A valid provisioning profile for this executable was not found.
I dont understand, this has been working for months and now it does not.
When i try to install the application, the provisioning profile shows up on the device and states its valid.
I am now starting from scratch again from the iOS provisioning page, but it will not work at all this time.
    desciption: [a name i put]
    bundleSeedID(app id prefix)
i have only a choice of two or "team id"
    budle identifier (app id suffix)
i had always used the wild card *
this worked in the past, now i have tried creating provisioning profiles this way, or with a valid name and using the same name in app id export settings in flash Ide
    new profile
    name myProfile
    [certificate selected]
    app id
[selected the app id i just made]
device selected, UDID is  correct and worked for months prior
    wait/refresh
    download profile
create the app in flash CS5.5
app ID = anything because i used the wind card, OR exact same as app ID created in iOS page
its created successful, but fails to install on device.
Any suggestions are welcome, i am now spending hours on this its ridiculous

  • No iTunes sync over VPN

I would like to do an iTunes sync over VPN but this doesn't work.
    Has anyone ever done this?
I set up VPN service on my 10.6 server and VPN works fine, I can VPN on from an outside computer to my network w/ no issue and see my network.
When I VPN to my network on my iPad or iPhone, I get connected and the device gets an ip but I can't initiate a iTunes sync.
Was this just not meant to be? It should.

I'm working on trying to figure this out too.  I have a working VPN setup.  To sync itunes, I am thinking that the itunes on the remote computer must have an itunes library that points to the main itunes library on the host computer.  I think I have changed my itunes library on my remote computer to the library on the host via Preferences and the Advanced tab.  There is a place there to change the location of your itunes library.  When I click change, I can navigate to the itunes media location on the host.
I am syncing now, and will be able to confirm the results tomorrow when I have access to the host.  Hopefully the sync won't have messed something up.  But, I am thinking this is working...
