ITunes sync forgot all settings - how can I fix?

It's the second time now that iTunes deleted all my Movies, TV Shows and Music from my iPod because it forgot what to synchronize.
Usually I synchronize selected playlists and selected TV Shows. It just happened the scond time that iTunes forgot which playlists and shows I want to synchronize and simply deleted them all from the iPod.
I'm wondering:
How can this happen?
What can I do against it?
Can I retrieve the settings somehow (I have timemachine active)?
I'm (still) using 10.5.8 an an iPod 4th Gen with iOS 6.something

iTunes tells me: 10.6.3 (25)
The loss does not happen each time. I already synced once today and that worked. Just the next time failed.
I also have the feeling that the loss happened when iTunes created a backup of my iPod - but I might be mistaken.

Hey Ryan, When you looked at Get Info as Illaass instructed did you compare all the info listed in iTunes Get Info on the computer's copy? When you looked at the song(s) that are separated, do they list anything different like a featured artist? Or a different composer / song writer? Sometimes that will trick the the software into thinking it is 2 different albums. Make the info about the album and artist match, then sync to your iPod. The songs should go back where they belong on your iPod. Good luck. Cheers.

Have you previously synced photos to your iPad ? If so try deleting the photo cache from your computer and then re-try the photo sync and see if they then copy over - the location of the cache, and how to delete it, is on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314
In terms of iOS5, what version of iTunes have you got on your computer ? You need iTunes 10.5 to be able to download iOS 5

You can only transfer music from itunes to your devices and not the other way round.

Connect your iPod to iTunes and reset it if it dose not work go to the genius bar at apple store and they will give you a new one if you have a protection care or warranty if you don't they will give you a new one at a cost

The device will have to be restored but without the last computer it was synced to, that's not a possibility.
Take the iPod to an Apple store or Apple certified repair shop.

If you want to use Time Machine to recover the contents of one of its a backups to a new drive, follow the instructions in Mac OS X 10.6: Recovering your entire system. Note that you must select the "Restore System From Backup" option from the Utilities menu of the Installer disc to do this.
Also note that if you are transferring files to a hard drive to be used with a different computer, you should use Migration Assistant instead. My itunes account has been disabled how can I fix it?

How can I enable it (I have tried changing my ID, password etc and it does not work - I have done this several times).
It is not for security reasons it just says disabled.
Its very annoying as I cannot get any updates and so forth now.
I have emailed apple and no response.
