Itunes synced with another computer after updating iTunes

iphone 4.
ios6
8Gb
I was previously running ios5 onthe above phone but downloaded the new version of itunes (accidently - if it's not broke dont fix it) when I connected my new iPod shuffle.
Since then I have been unable to add or remove music from my phone with the required button to do so missing. In an effort to resolve I installed ios6 (groan - why?) but still have the same problem.
The message I get when I select the tick box to manually manage music is that this library is already synced with another computer. It's NOT! I've just updated the software apple provide to make my user experience that much more pleasant - Oh the irony.
Any takers to help out please?

Hi there,
Thanks for that, explains a little. I have changed my operating system to Windows 8 and I am now accessing my library from my back up drive when it was previously accessed on my main drive.
I imagine itunes is seeing another hard drive as in your reply above. If this is the case how can it be resolved? copy my entire library into the itunes music folde as is the default setting?

After reinstalling windows 7, itunes states my iphone 4 is synced with another computer and wants to erase all my music and content.

  • Itunes runs slowly-  thinks my ipod is sync with another computer

So I made the major mistake of upgrading to Itunes 7.6. What did i get - an unusable media player and messages if I wish to erase all my music (4 gig) from my ipod since it is sync with another computer. Well -Apple it is not -it is the same computer - same music - same everything. Oh, did i tell you it erased all my playlists, podcasts and now - if i can ever get it to work- I have to recreate everything. On top of it - I can't do that even if I wanted to since whenever itunes loads it stops -uses 100% of my system resources - and i have no choice but to manually stop it. I was buying the Apple kool-aid and was thinking of buying an apple laptop but if this is an example of their product and software development I will pass.
So sorry for the rant but does anyone have any ideas - I would just toss it the piece of junk but it has my daughter's name engraved.
    Any help would be appreciated

Try holding down the Shift key in Windows when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to an existing one. The default location for your iTunes library is in \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\. Look in there and see if you have more than one library file (they have the extension .itl) If you have more than one try opening them in turn, you may find your original library is still intact: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file

  • My iTunes is suddenly saying both my iPod & iPhone are synced with another computer, which they have not been.

I recently lost all of the music from my laptop's hard drive, and therefore from i-Tunes.  I still have all of my music on my iPhone (3GS) (and a smaller version on my iPod Touch (3)), however when I try to sync them iTunes says the devices are synced with another computer & the only options I have is to erase the iPhone/iPod & sync with the very little music that has been able to be recovered back into iTunes, or to transfer the purchases.  I have checked the computer is authorised for my iTunes account, and have transferred the purchases back.  I really don't want to have to reload my CDs on when they are all on other devices.
Does anyone know why iTunes is suddenly not recognising devices it did previously, and how I get it to recognise them again?  And most importantly, how I can transfer the music on my iPhone/iPod back into the laptop's iTunes?

The music was accidentally deleted as I was cleaning up my SafeSync account (like a Cloud) & I unwittingly deleted My Documents & My Music from my hard drive as I did so - these are the only files that were affected.  So no catastrophic issue apart from me not knowing what I'm doing.
And IT guy performed a recovery for me but was only able to retrieve about 10% of my documents and only 45 songs of the 1700 or so I had.  There is no up to date back up of my computer - trust me I've learnt a lesson there.
Since then iTunes doesn't recognise my devices as being synced to that computer, but there is no other computer for them to be synced to so I don't understand how this happened or how to fix it.  I understand that my devices aren't back ups, but it seems stupid to lose the 1700 songs I have on my iPhone.  I have transferred the purchases, but the majority of them are songs I've loaded from CDs & obviously it would be a very time consuming process to try to reload all of them - obviously something I would like to avoid if possible.

  • I'm trying to sync a playlist onto my phone through the computer and it says my device is already synced with another computer with my iTunes account. It only lets me cancel or it gives me the option to erase my contents and sync. Help.

I'm trying to sync a playlist onto my phone through the computer and it says my device is already synced with another computer with my iTunes account. It only lets me cancel or it gives me the option to erase my contents and sync. Wondering how to get my device from the other computer especially since I don't even know what computer it's connected to.

At some stage is is likely to have been connected to another computer's iTunes.  It is now linked to that computer's library and iPhones can only be associated to one library at a time.  Linking to a different one requires wiping the phone.
If you used the phone with another computer you owned you can transfer the iTunes library from that computer to this one and the phone will still be syncing with the same library it was before.
If all there is on the phone are items which can be backed up to iTunes and purchases which can be transferred you could do that, then wipe the phone and sync them back.

  • HT4113 My Ipad has never been synced with a computer or via itunes on a computer only set up by my apple id, when it asked to connect to itunes i turned it off, when turning it on again it asked me for a passcode. I never set up a pascode, now I am locked

I have just bought a new IPAD. It has never been synced with a computer or via itunes on a computer, I tried to set it up using my APPLE ID and mobile number, it prompted me to connect to ITUNES. Unsure of what to do next, I closed it and took it to work. When I opened it one hour later it prompted me for the passcode. I never set up a passcode. I tried various combinations (my husband iphone, birthdates, kids passcodes etc) to see if somehow it had linked itself to their passcode. I called the shop I bought it from and was advised it would cost me 70 dollars to have it reset. I feel completely devastated that I haven't even been able to use the IPAD and I am already stuck. Can anyone offer some solid advice?

Move or copy all the media from the old computer or the backup of the old computer to the new computer.

Sync the iTunes content from the iPhone to the new computer.

And... launch iTunes on the new computer. From the menu bar click Store / Authorize This Computer.

My Dell laptop hard drive crashed - when I go to sync my iPhone it says that my phone is already synced with another computer and can only be synced with one computer at a time. When I hit sync is says it will erase my phone and sync with the new computer which is blank. How do I get my phone to sync my contacts, pics, apps etc. over to my new hard drive without losing anything.

Yes, so what's confusing... Did you not restore the backup of your data, contacts, pics, apps, music, etc. to the new hard drive after you replaced it or reformatted it or whatever you did? If so, then you can just sync your data back.
If not, please try searching the forum. This has been addressed hundreds of times here.

  • What do you do when you try and sync your phone and it says you are synced with another computer and u are not?

I am having trouble syncing ringtones and movies

If it says you are synced with another computer, you are synced with another computer. The only alternative is you have wiped and reloaded the computer that you normally sync with, essentially making it a new computer.

Whem i'm doing the backup it automaticaly saves contacts.....because i've synced with another computer and it deleted all my contacts...and i really need them!!!!!

If you haven't been using your phone as recommended, then you've lost all your contacts.  Contacts should be synched to your computer (Address Book, Outlook) or a cloud service (MobileMe, Google) for safekeeping.  The iPhone was never intended to be a storage device.
If you haven't been using your phone as recommended and synching your contacts as above, frankly, you've no one to blame for your loss of data but yourself.
On that topic, are you making regular backups of your computer's data as well?  Hard drives WILL fail.
