ITunes syncing extremely slow!

Hi, I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions or possible solutions as to why iTunes syncs my music so slow. I recently bought an iPod Touch and it took about 5 hours to sync 700 songs. My computer is fairly decent, it's 2.66 Gigahertz, and I have 1.5 gigs of RAM as well. Also, this problem never occured on my previous ipod nano, which synced in less than a minute. A single song takes about a minute to sync now. Anybody know what's wrong?

I have the exact same problem. iTunes sync is amazingly slow on my MacBook. You can transfer files faster than you can sync, but 10x times faster; I'm disappointed. I have to admit, iTunes never claimed to be fast.

  • ITunes sync extremely slow now

Now iTunes sync with iPhone takes hours each time.
No new data, it's a an hourly sync or so, usually
    it's done in two minutes…

    Yes, no avail.
But the whole thing is a mess now :
    - Sync Entourage > iCal don't work properly
    - MobileMe don't sync with Address Book
    - and apparently erased Address Book, so my iPhone synched with an empty Addressbook.
Needless to say I'm overly happy.
As usual, never have any problem with my Mac, except when M$oft comes into play.

  • ITunes sync extremely slow

I'm experiencing very slow syncs at the moment, although it was fine until recently (had my 3Gs nearly 9 months now).
Copying photos off the iPhone via Windows Explorer seems very quick, and the Backup part of the sync process (iPhone to PC direction) takes only 30 seconds or so, but uploading new content (podcasts, music, vids etc) to the iPhone seems to take a very very long time, and iTunes is unresponsive during much of this syncing.
For instance, I'm waiting for a single 151Mb podcast to upload to the iPhone now and it's taken 5 minutes so far, and is only 1/3 of the way through.
Syncing to my iPhone didn't used to take this long - a sync of larger amounts of new files would only take a minute or two.
I'm using the same USB socket on the PC (although I have tried others) and I'm using the original Apple USB cable (again I've tried others). I have also completely uninstalled iTunes (the 6 apps, exactly as per the Apple support article) and installed the latest iTunes 9.0.3.15
    Any ideas?

Thanks for the link. I tried the USB power save setting off on all USB ports, no luck. I always hibernate, so instead I tried power off, start up and sync, again still slow. I checked the bios for any USB settings, but they're just for turning on USB, enabling USB 2.0 support and enabling legacy support.
I think I'm stuck. Out of interest I copied all my iTunes stuff to my other PC, an old Dell Optiplex GX270 and that syncs nice a quick, with iTunes responsive the whole time. Then tried syncing again on my Asrock mobo PC, and it's still super slow with iTunes locking up.
I also tried unplugging all other USB devices, and trying different USB ports, no luck.
All my other USB devices work fine and are working at full speed, including various high speed flash drives, cameras and a Samsung Jet phone.

  • Since the latest update, my iTunes is EXTREMELY slow. I'm about to turn to Windows. Can it go back to previous versions?

Slow in what respect?  Please be specific.

Ummmm, could you ellaborate on how you plan to turn to Windows because iTunes (an application that runs on Windows) is running slow?

  • Itunes starts extremely slow after an update of windows 8.1.

Itunes starts extremely slow after an update of windows 8.1.
It takes up to 10 minutus.
If I see the appliction log in event viewer then I see the following errors on the Bonjour service.
    For instance:
Client application bug: DNSServiceResolve(a8:fa:d8:3a:1e:8f@fe80::aafa:d8ff:fe3a:1e8f._apple-mobdev2._t cp.local.) active for over two minutes. This places considerable burden on the network.
    followed by
SendWakeupPacket error: sent -1 bytes: 10065
    What can this be?
    Already thanks,
    John

I did all the step with save mode and that didn't gave the same result.
Then I created a new account and there itunes started up normally.
So I contued with the user section.
I removed the itunes directory from
    c:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
This gave the same result in not starting up.
Then I removed the itunes directory from
    c:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
The a popup appears that the Bonjour Service has been disabled.
I looked in services and saw that is was still running.
But I tried to restart this service and it took a long time to stop this service.
Even if I selected restart the Bonjour Service didn't start.
Manually starting was not a problem.
Clicking OK on the popup let itunes start quickly. And closing and starting it again was also quickly.
So Matt thanks for your answer.
If it happens again I have to see if it was the removing of the itunes directory from roaming or restarting the Bonjour Service.

  • ITunes + Ping extremely slow with Library on external HD

    Hi,
My Library is on an external HD connected to an Airport Extreme base station. My MacBook is connected wired to Airport, so there are no possible wifi connection issues.
iTunes is extremely slow since version 10. If I select a song and want to select another one, I've got a spinning beach ball for at least 20s. Change a rating: 20s delay. Every move I make: at least 20s delay...
My guess: every time I select a song, iTunes connects to Ping to fill up the dropdown menu next to the song title. Disabling Ping doesn't help. I tried in Terminal "defaults write com.apple.iTunes hide-ping-dropdown -bool TRUE", but this merely hides the dropdown menu, it doesn't stop the functionality.
iTunes is basically not usable anymore.
    Any suggestions?

    Don't quit iTunes.
How can I make iTunes see the interrupted download and not have to restart the download from the beginning?
    You cannot.

  • ITunes is extremely slow and I cannot make a secure connection

When I connect to iTunes my computer is extremely slow, and when I try to connect to the iTunes store I get the error message cannot make a secure connection.  I have internet access and I have ran the iTunes diagnostics test and all the tests passed except making a secure connection.  I have disabled all of my security systems including my firewall and Norton.  I am not running any proxy settings.  This has been an ongoing problem for over a month and I am at a loss.

Check out this Apple article -> iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting
Blocked by configuration: (Mac OS X/Windows)
Configure Internet Options (for Windows computers only):
Run iTunes Diagnostics. If the "Secure link to iTunes Store" section does not pass, do the following.
    Open Internet Explorer.
From the Tools menu, choose Internet Options.
    Click Connections.
Under "Dial-up and Virtual Private Networking," choose "Never dial  a connection." It may not be possible to choose this if you’ve never used  dial-up Internet; if this is the case, skip to the next step.
    Click LAN Settings.
In the window that opens, enable the option to "Automatically detect  settings" if it is not enabled.
iTunes uses Internet Options proxy settings. Apple recommends  removing proxy settings that interfere with access to the iTunes Store  if needed.
    Click OK.
    Click the Advanced tab.
Scroll down to the Security section and look for the option to "Check for server certificate revocation." If it is enabled, disable it.
Look for Use SSL 3.0 and Use TLS 1.0. Make sure at least one of  those two checkboxes is selected and click OK (You can select both checkboxes).
Apply any changes, and restart your computer if you modified the option to "Check for server certificate revocation" (step #11).

  • Itunes 8 extremely slow and feezes Vista

    Oh my god,
This is getting worse. If you tought that Itunes 7 and Vista weren't ment for eachother, Itunes 8 and Vista just hate eachother. Itunes 8 is just extremely slow on my fresh installed Vista. It keeps freezing up and sometimes my system won't respond to a thing I am doing thanks to the wonderfull crappy software from Apple...
If this is really all you guys can write then I guess I will have to look for a better software to synch my ipod.

I've definitely noticed that switching between library sections (music, movies, etc.) is much slower in iTunes 8 than it was with ver. 7. So far, it's a teeth gritting annoyance at worst. It improved somewhat when I set all areas to List View, but only somewhat. The program also takes longer to load than version 7 did (sort of unbelievable in itself!), and there WAS one heart stopper of a moment where I thought it had locked up and taken my HP laptop with it, but it came back after 15-20 seconds on its own. I don't have a novice-level PC by any means; it's one of the newest and nicest of the direct-to-retail models, with a Core 2 Duo (P8400), discrete Nvidia 9600M GT w/512MB RAM, and 4GB of system RAM, running Vista HP 64 bit. (Yep, I installed the 64-bit iTunes.) I did notice one other poster mentioned having an HP laptop. Doesn't seem like hardware limitations should be a factor, at least in my case; I hope, whatever the issue turns out to be, that it isn't some total incompatibility with something HP loads on its machines. I'm sure Apple will come up with a bug fix at some point, but since the iPhone 3G became part of my life, it sure seems like a large chunk of that life is spent waiting for Apple to fix bugs and putting up with subpar performance in the meantime. I'm pretty new to things Apple, and I can say quite honestly that all the problems I've had with various iPods, the iPhone 3G, and here and there with iTunes were the reason I chose my current laptop over a MBP. I couldn't stand the idea of spending all that money and getting a lemon. Apple isn't the huge performer I'd always heard it was, not in my experience!

  • Itunes is extremely slow

After I couldn't open up Itunes for months I finally got it to launch but it's extremely slow. When the music store finally displays it has broken chains for pictures and it responds very slowly. Not doing what I tell it to. The fact that I can't call Apple is extremely disturbing, but I've done my part by telling people not to buy an ipod and get an mp3 player instead.
    Help would be appreciated, thanks.

Reinstalling iTunes shouldn't lose your music files.
But it is ALWAYS a good idea to have backups, esp of purchased files.

  • ITunes Store extremely slow...

There are moments (often) when the iTunes Store is just extremely slow. I'll buy a movie and it will tell me it'll be ready in 3 hours. How am I supposed to watch anything on my iPad or Apple TV?

The widgets weren't working either, clean installs seem to fix everything, even if they take several hours.

  • Why is iTunes is extremely slow to sync suddenly?

Recently iTunes has become incredibly slow to sync. While syncing to my 1st gen iPad, the app is making progress but it is soooo slow. Trying to interfere results in beachballing. I seem to have noticed the change after two recent things have happened.
First, I started using iPhoto and syncing photos to my iPad, where before I was just syncing a few photos direct from a Finder folder. Second, was the most recent iTunes update. Note that all of iTunes is slow as soon as I hit sync - it is not the photos portion holding up or their initial optimization. Also, I synced photos after I started using iPhoto successfully a few times before this happened, which makes me lean more towards a problem with the update perhaps?
I am running Lion on a 2008 iMac. Everything is up do date.
    Any suggestions? Thanks in advace.

Apparently it's something related to the external HDD (500GB WD MyBook) which stores all of my iTunes music and movies. Everything syncs when I disconnect the HDD. I still haven't solved the problem, but I can at least sync photos/apps/whatever else isn't on the drive, and have eliminated iPhoto as a possible cause.

  • Itunes opening extremely slow on PC.  Using windows 7 64 bit.  Have re installed itunes several times and tunes not recognizing ipod touch 3rd gen

have this  issue since 10.6 update can't down grade to earlier version...  I tunes drag painly slow to open ever after be re-installed several time.  Any thought out there?

I had the same problem with my iPhone 4. I use Avast as my virus scanner, and the incoming mail filter in Avast screws with iTunes/iPhone and stops the computer recognising the phone. Disabled the mail filter and the iPhone syncs fine. You should give that a go. Possible that it is the same issue with the iPod too.

  • ITunes is extremly slow on Windows 7 64 bit

    Hi there
I have major issues with iTunes 10 on my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. All my music is on a Windows Home Server, worked perfectly with older versions of iTunes.
When i start iTunes, it uses 1 core in the cpu for 100% for a long time, and is completly unresponsive for >10 minutes.
Windows Resource Monitor says iTunes is 'not responding' after >15 minutes, suddently the cpu usages drop to nothing, and iTunes respondes again.
When i plug in my iPhone 4, and sync's the horror really start.
The backup of the phone takes over 1 hour, and that is EVERY time.
Then it used several hours to figure out which files to sync, again every time.
So the complete sync'ing take way over 3 hours, in iTunes 9, it took seldomly more than 1-2 minutes.
I have tried to uninstall iTunes, clean the computer of iTunes, and install again. No difference.
Has anyone a clue what is wrong?

    They're both Autoflow problems.
The fix for the Mac version of the problem, like the Windows Registry edit I linked to earlier, is not an Apple fixe but they are worked on and improved until Apple gets around to releasing its own update.
Ever since Microsoft pulled its uninstaller cleanup utility I've been looking for a solution and one I've found good, so far, is Revo Uninstaller.
It has a free version and a more complete pay version that has a 30 day free trial.
    http://www.revouninstaller.com/revouninstaller_freedownload.html
You can do the uninstall manually as well, if you're willing to be careful and patient, and if you use the search box in the right -Search Discussions- you'll find several posts explaining how to do just that.

  • Latest iTunes version: extremely slow start-up

    My set-up:
    - Windows 8.1 Pro x64
    - iTunes 11.1.2 x64
    - large MP3 collection (hundreds of GBs... don't ask how)
    - Moved Music library from C: drive to D: drive
The combination of Windows 8.1 and iTunes 11.1.2 or either of them, causes iTunes
to start up very very slow.
I deleted my iTunes library and started from scratch, but no effect. My iTunes library (under Music) doesn't
contain the songs, just links to another folder on another drive (fixed harddisk).
After you start iTunes, you see the memory usage slowly crawling to 250 MB, then it starts and works.
    But it takes 3-4 minutes.
    What's new ?

    Apple just released 11.1.3
    From the release notes:
This version of iTunes resolves an issue where the equalizer may not work as expected and improves performance when switching views in large iTunes libraries. This update also includes additional minor bug fixes.
I can confirm that my issue has been solved. iTunes loads after a few seconds and switching view doesn't crash it anymore.
    Thanks Apple !!

  • Bluetooth sync extremely slow

Synchronizing my N96 with ovi suite via bluetooth is horribly slow.
Transfering only a single photo for example takes about 10 minutes.
Even when I only sync contacts and messages, I can wait like 5 minutes or longer.
Is there any known issue about syncing an N96 with ovi suite via bluetooth?
I cant imagine why it would take so long...
When I use direct file transfer, and not ovi suite, to transfer the same photo to my PC, it works at normal speed. (less than 10 seconds)
When I use the usb cable to sync to ovi suite, its working at normal speed as well.
Any ideas about this? Help appreciated...
