ITunes takes 10 minutes to load

I have HP Desktop with Windows Vista and latest version of iTunes. When I start iTunes it takes 10 minutes or more to load. My other friends using same version of iTunes on their computers with Vista say it loads much quicker. What can I do to speed it up? I have already tried defragmenting my hard drive and cleaning off all unused files. All my other programs are loading and operating okay.

Hmm. Those specifications are extremely high for iTunes.
I would think maybe it has something to do with loading your media. Is that stored somewhere other than your HDD or scattered around your HDD (rather than iTunes copying it onto it's own folder)?

iMac will not start following OS X 10.9.4 update - takes 30 minutes to load with spinning wheel and progress bar and then when it appears to be finished it powers off?

Thanks for the suggestion - this was the 1st thing I tried but it does not appear to work either. I'm still getting the 30 minute spinning wheel and slow moving progress bar on a grey background - even if I try to start the iMac in 'safe' mode!

  • Firefox 3.6 takes several minutes to load under windows 7 ultimate 64 bit

Firefox was working fine on windows 7 x64. Then I loaded some shell extensions to allow symmmbolic links to fies as my SSD was filling up and I wanted to move some applcation data off the system drive. This caused problems with acronis backup so I unloaded the extensions and reinstalled acronis. Not everything works as before except that firefox takes 3 minutes to load. When initiated it shows up in the processes on process explorer as running but doesn't show up as an applicationrunning for three minutes or so.
Have tried unlintstalling and reinstalling firefox, allowing it through my firewall and using the prefetch option in the shortcut without success.

Yeah i have done that a couple of times. When i navigate through the disk it doesn't even let me run setup.exe, so i installed from bootcamp64.msi. Then after 3.0 installs, i try to update to 3.1 and after the nvidia install, it just quits. When i use my version tracker it says that boot camp is in version 3.0, and it shows an update for 3.1 in software update. Now when i go to uninstall programs, it shows boot camp 3.1 is installed.
As far as the audio, i have tried that as well. If i manually put a driver into that device, it fails on every reboot. It only shows working on Microsoft High Deff Audio Drivers( and it actually dosnt even work, it just glows red on my head phone jack.)
    Im stumped.

  • Problen pening FIRST email when opening Gmail. Takes few minutes to load.

Updated to new firefox as I had problem when I tried to "open a new tab". After installing update I now have problem opening FIRST email when opening Gmail. Takes few minutes to load. After the first one, then all the others open instantly w/no problems. I have not noticed other problems on computer.

No problems here, so no fix required.

  • Baterry full but still take 2 minutes to load

The cellphone goes black and not responsive unless I reset it by pressing the two bottoms to reset it. After that the battery shows 60%, 70% percent. The reset is taking longer and longer now. So, it is not the case documented by Apple that if the battery is low it will take 2 minutes to load.
    - It goes black by itself
    - It doesn't turn on
    - It takes 2 minutes to reset when the battery is still good.

The question is implicit and it goes like: "Is that normal?"

  • Firefox used to load igoogle in 15 seconds; now it takes TEN minutes to load. HELP

Firefox used to load my iGoogle page in 15 seconds; now it takes TEN minutes to load this page. Help

Its not only iGoogle, But 99% sites open up pretty slow with Firefox 3.6.*. When you first hit the site, it half loads and then slowly loads remaining , sometimes take 5-10 Minutes, and sometimes it never loads or you have to hit enter again to fully load the site. Firefox 3.6.* is disgusting...Please this is serious. I recommend users to switch back to 3.510; its the most stable one.

  • ITunes 8 Takes 5 Minutes to Load Up!

After the iTunes 8 update, my iTunes takes at least 5 minutes to load.
Anyone else have this problem or is it just my comp.?

Just wondering if you could expound upon how you fixed the problem... I'm having difficulty finding any other information regarding this issue.

  • Itunes taking 5 minutes to load - Windows 7

For the last 2-3 weeks, when I click on the shortcut to load iTunes or if I connect my iOS devices to the computer, iTunes takes up to 5 minutes to fully open on my computer. It will show the outline of the program screen after maybe 2-3 minutes, and then it takes another minute or more to have everything display and be ready for use.
I am currently not having this issue with any other program on my computer at this time.
    Any suggestions?

I think 5 minutes is a very conservative estimate. Mine takes between 10 - 15 minutes despite me having done all the iTunes/Windows speed-up hints I've read about elsewhere. Once it is up and running, ticking some actions often sends it into another comatose state although my HDD light suggests it's doing something somewhere.
All other Win7 applications and plug-in devices run fine on my PC - just iTunes behaves this way - and it used to work OK about a year ago when I first started connecting my iPad.

  • Firefox takes several minutes to load

It takes several minutes for Firefox to load every time I log in. Takes longer if computer is started. Have troubleshot everything I could find with no avail. It's getting old and all that I have read I can't believe Mozilla has not heard and fixed this problem.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== I think it was when I updated.

The question certainly isn't solved. I have no trouble with speed when entering sites - it's just when first trying to enter Mozilla. I tried IE this morning as a test and was into the home page in a few secomds. Moxilla 8 takes about a minute and a half. Version 3.6 loads immediately. I previously tried vers 8 a couple of weeks ago and web sites took a long time to load. This was not a problem after using vers 3.6 for a while and then re-downloading vers 8. I am still frustrated by the slow load up time it takes to get to the home page and believe this may be something the system administrators need to fix..

  • ITunes takes 90 seconds to load due to TCP Reconnects

iTunes takes about 90 seconds to load on my Windows 7 machine - a VERY fast machine with 6GB RAM and SSD drive where all other apps run very fast.  Scanning the internet, I found many instances of extremely slow loading, but none of the suggestions were helpful.  So, I used Process Monitor to see what the f*ck iTunes is doing...
It turns out that iTunes is hanging due to TCP Reconnects.  It appears to be scanning TCP ports in the range of 61432 to 61503, trying each one twice, and each attempt takes 500 ms to time-out, causing a total of a 71 second hang during startup.  As appears to be typical for this very poorly behaved software, all of this occurs before any UI has been drawn - not even a splash screen - making things all the more confusing for the poor user, who is left wondering why the heck the program doesn't appear to have launched.
I realize that this is probably not occurring for all users, meaning that there is something different about the installation/config on my particular machine that is triggering this problem.  Still, that is no excuse for such ridiculous behavior, especially for such a widely used application.
Any help with this problem would be much appreciated.  Although, I'm not really interested in the obligatory shotgun approaches of things like doing full uninstall/re-install of iTunes and/or Windows 7, etc.  So, thank you for not asking me to do things that are likely to be a huge waste of my valuable time.  If you want me to capture and post details about my machine, I'll do that - even though it's highly obvious that this is an ugly software problem in iTunes that needs to be fixed.

FYI, the TCP Reconnects are shown as MachineName:61xxx -> MachineName:5354, and the result of the API call is SUCCESS.  I'm just assuming they're timing out since the API calls are 500 ms apart.  I have no idea what this API is doing exactly, or why it seems to be scanning a range of ports but with each connection then apparently going to port 5354.  Very strange.  There are no other API calls in between the TCP Reconnect.  Picture is attached:

  • IPad connected to 3G but Google homepage takes 5 minutes to load!

I had 2 iPads side by side, both of the same model and both on the same O2 carrier business data plan.
When sat on a full signal and 3G data connection, one of them loaded data almost instantly (as it should) and the other took 5-10 minutes to load the Google homepage!
I contacted o2 who told me it was the sim card that was faulty, so they sent me a replacement sim card out next day. The iPad then worked perfectly for 2-3 weeks, but I'm now sat with same problem with the exact same iPad.
Can you anyone PLEASEEEE suggest anything? I've tried hard resets and wiping the iPad fully (just to say I've done it).
As I say its not that the data doesn't load, it just takes an age to do so.
    Thanks!

I'd suspect faulty hardware.  Give apple a call if on warrenty.
I would have told you to look at the logs, but Apple seems to have blocked viewing the logs in 7 on the ipad.

  • My imac randomly restarts and then takes 45 minutes to load.  What can I do to fix it?

I upgraded to Mavericks as soon as it released a few weeks ago.  This is the only change I've made, no new programs or apps otherwise.  Last week my imac randomly restarted and then took 45 minutes to load.  It's done this about 5 times in the last week.  I need some help resolving this.
I've gone through the disk utility to repair/verify the hard drive, and it's done nothing to solve this issue.
I do have a time machine and am wondering if it would be too drastic to reformat and restore from the time machine.
Any help would be appreciated!  I have work to do!

  • Preview in iTunes takes 5 min to load

Our iTunes U site hasn't gone public yet, but we're uploading a lot of content to test things out. I've noticed with some videos (with what seems to be the same compression settings) if you click on the preview icon within iTunes U, it literally takes 3-5 minutes for the video to appear, during which time there's a "loading" message. The video eventually shows up, and if you hit "Get Movie", there's no problem downloading it and watching it on your own machine.
Many of the videos that don't work have the following settings (from Quicktime movie inspector):
    H.264 Decoder, 320 x 240, Millions
    AAC, Stereo (L R), 32.000 kHz
There's some files with these same properties that do work, though, and if you re-compress these using the iPod setting in Quicktime, you don't get the delay.
Strangely enough, I've never had any problems with videos compressed with:
    Sorenson Video 3 Decompressor, 320 x 240, Millions+
MPEG Layer 3, Mono, 48.000 kHz
But, of course, these can't be transferred to your iPod.
The folks who made these videos claim that their process is consistent, and there should be no difference with the files. For what it's worth, they use Squeeze to do their compression.
I'm really stumped on this, and it's been throwing a wrench in our progress on the site (which needs to launch in about a month.) Any help would be wonderful.
    Thanks,
    Quinn

Actually, after some feedback from Apple and some testing it does look like iTunes U and iTunes does support progresive download fast start. With QuickTime 2.1, Apple introduced the Fast Start movie, which is a movie with the header at the start of the file. It works because the movie atom is stored at the beginning of the file. So, QuickTime knows how to interpret the movie sample data even before it arrives, and because the movie data is intelligently interleaved with respect to display time.
When the bandwidth of a connection meets or exceeds the data rate of the movie, a well-formed QuickTime movie file can play as it downloads. This kind of progressive download, or Fast Start movie, provides the same user experience as real-time streaming.
Originally, a special tool was needed to process the move for fast start. However, making fast start movies is now the default move of QuickTime. However, if you do any editing in QuickTime Player, even simple things like changing annotations, the header gets moved to the back of the file again, and fast start no longer works. When this happens, you ned to re-flatten the move, either by doing a Save As of the file from QuickTime Player.
There is a freeware utility that can be used to flatten movie (mov and mp4):
    http://www.qtbridge.com/lillipot/lillipot.html
We use have used Sorenson Squeeze, which appears to not have GUI option to enable/disable progressive download fast start.
Most other compression tools let you set the progressive download, fast start option.
So, for example, on our iTunes U site we have progressive download fast start video's that play directly from iTunes U without issues.
    http://deimos.apple.com/WebObjects/Core.woa/Browse/utah.edu.1413595482.014207570 81.1419303557?i=1534614695
But, we also have video that were encoded with Sorenson Squeeze or other tools without the fast start option. Thye do not play properly from iTunes U.
In regards to previewing & downloading media is possible, if the media is progresive download fast start, but the interface could be modified to make it more obvious.
IMHO, iTunes should better optimized to handle playback of non-fast start media, no raindbow beachball and hog resources for iTunes will trying to load media.
