Itunes taking 5 minutes to load - Windows 7

For the last 2-3 weeks, when I click on the shortcut to load iTunes or if I connect my iOS devices to the computer, iTunes takes up to 5 minutes to fully open on my computer. It will show the outline of the program screen after maybe 2-3 minutes, and then it takes another minute or more to have everything display and be ready for use.
I am currently not having this issue with any other program on my computer at this time.
Any suggestions?

I think 5 minutes is a very conservative estimate. Mine takes between 10 - 15 minutes despite me having done all the iTunes/Windows speed-up hints I've read about elsewhere. Once it is up and running, ticking some actions often sends it into another comatose state although my HDD light suggests it's doing something somewhere.
All other Win7 applications and plug-in devices run fine on my PC - just iTunes behaves this way - and it used to work OK about a year ago when I first started connecting my iPad.

• Project taking 5 minutes to load

Hi,
I just publisehd a course with 190 slides. It has some short videos embedded and simple animations. Althought the project loads fast on my desktop, it is taking 5 minutes to load over the web. My users are not gonna want to wait this long. Any suggestions as to what I can do to speed up the loading time?
Thank you,
Heloisa Kinder

Try reducing the preloading % from 100% to something like 20%. Preferences, Project, Start and End.
If that is not sufficient, you'll have to reduce the filesize.

• Photoshop CS6 taking a minute to load (Yosemite)

Hi There,
Recently Photoshop started taking over a minute to load - I figured the normal things might be a problem - Brushes / Plugins / Actions etc.
So I removed everything, reinstalled PS and started adding back my brushes etc - and the load times decreased. Happy Days.
Except that it only lasted 3 days before launching slowly again.
A minute doesn't seem like much but it's interminable when you want to do a quick edit.
This time I did a little more research and checked the amt3.log - and found a minute's gap between these lines:

Back up all data if you haven’t already done so. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to the state it’s in now. If you skip this step, no one but you will be responsible for the consequences.
Quit Safari if it’s running.
Select /Applications/Safari in the Finder and open the Info window. There’s a checkbox in that window labeled “Open in 32-bit mode.” If that box is checked, uncheck it. Close the window.
Hold down the option key and select Go > Library from the Finder menu bar (Lion) or open the Library subfolder of your home folder (pre-Lion). Delete the following items from the Library folder (some may not exist):
Caches/com.apple.Safari
Caches/Metadata/Safari
Saved Application State/com.apple.Safari.savedState
Leave the Finder window open. Try Safari again. If it still doesn’t work right, quit, go back to the Finder, and move the following file to the Desktop:
Safari/Bookmarks.plist
Then delete the following items (some may not exist):
Cookies/Cookies.binarycookies
Cookies/Cookies.plist
Preferences/com.apple.Safari.LSSharedFileList.plist
Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Preferences/com.apple.Safari.RSS.plist
PubSub/Database
Safari
Try again. This time Safari should perform normally, but your settings will be lost. Select File > Import Bookmarks from the Safari menu bar. Import from the bookmarks file you moved to the Desktop. Recreate the rest of your Safari settings. You can then delete the old bookmarks file.

Is my modem dying, or is it the computer?

Thank you for the additional information. It was exactly what I needed.
Since the computer is older, it would be a great idea to do a full System Recovery; especially if there are no viruses or other malware. This will return the computer to its original configuration when you bought it. It will eliminate any software problems that there might be, also.
HP makes very fine computers. It is not surprising to me that it is still running after 4 years.

• Photoshop elements 10 taking 3 minutes to load

I am using PSE 10 on Windows 7 and Windows XP computers in a networked environment (Windows Server). Until recently the software loaded relatively quickly. Then all of a sudden it took 3 minutes to load.
The software loading sequence is like this:
Welcome to PSE 10 screen; Click Edit; Then Photoshop software appears to load; Click file to do something and an egg timer appears and it takes three minutes before the software has loaded. Once the PSE10 software has loaded it works fine.
Can you help?

Yes, the problem is the welcome screen. it's looking for photoshop.com and that doesn't exist anymore so it hangs up searching for it. Just don't use it. Go into the prorgram files and find the actual .exe file(s) for the editor and/or organizer, make desktop shortcuts for either or both and start PSE that way from now on.

• Firefox is taking 20+ minutes to load a page, why?

This morning, when launching Firefox, I was asked to update to the latest version of Firefox. I accepted, and everything appeared to be fine. Then it tried to update my extensions, when I noticed it got "stuck" at about halfway through. I left it for 15 minutes, but nothing changed - so I hit cancel and launched Firefox. My homepage was taking an extremely long time to load, I expected it to be an internet connection issue - but pages load instantly on Google Chrome which I also have installed. I've uninstalled + reinstalled Firefox, deleted my profile, to no avail. I really would like to use Firefox again.
The pages *do* load eventually, but they take around 20 minutes, and I'm not exaggerating. Even Google, which has always loaded quickly, takes 20 minutes or more, something must be wrong, can anyone help? I miss Firefox!

^ That is an entirely different crash signature and also on a different platform (windows versus Linux), so replies wouldn't apply.

• ITunes takes 10 minutes to load

I have HP Desktop with Windows Vista and latest version of iTunes. When I start iTunes it takes 10 minutes or more to load. My other friends using same version of iTunes on their computers with Vista say it loads much quicker. What can I do to speed it up? I have already tried defragmenting my hard drive and cleaning off all unused files. All my other programs are loading and operating okay.

Hmm. Those specifications are extremely high for iTunes.
I would think maybe it has something to do with loading your media. Is that stored somewhere other than your HDD or scattered around your HDD (rather than iTunes copying it onto it's own folder)?

• PlayerMediaCore Taking Several Minutes to Load

What's this PlayerMediaCore.prm that always hangs on startup? It seems 90% of the load time (about 2-1/2 minutes on my 3.5GHz quad-core) is taken up by this plugin. It has a vital-sounding name, so I'm not sure that removing it is a good idea, but it would be nice if there were a way to speed up the load times. Any ideas for improved loading time?

Mark,

Your theory about Cakewalk might be worth investigating. VST plugins are usually installed in some shared directory (not sure off the top of my head, but probably something like c:\program files\common files\VST\), and Premiere will attempt to load them if it finds them.

One tip to see what's being loaded: there's a 'plugin loading.log' files that Premiere generates during launch time. It'll be in your user folder\AppData location (if you're on XP, this will be under c:\documents and settings\<username>\Application Data\Adobe\Premiere Pro\4.0\ ; under vista, it'll be c:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Premiere Pro\4.0\ ).

I've seen your other posts about terrible frame rates, so I'm not ruling out some problem with PlayerMediaCore. The player plugin has some new component dependencies that are more particular about OpenGL support, so my inclination is that you might need a different driver revision for your graphics card. I'd usually say 'get the latest', but it seems that that doesn't always cover it (I think I've read a few posts here where people actually backtracked a driver revision version to get things working.)

What's your graphic card, and what drivers do you currently have installed?

Cheers

• Firefox 6.8 is taking 5 minutes or longer to load when I first start my computer (a 5-year-old Dell running XP).

Once it finally loads it works fine. I'm using Comodo firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials.

I can just about guarantee you it's your security system (and possibly the number of items you have initiated at start up) that is delaying the start up of your machine. I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate (over a Windows Vista Home Premium) and it did not load properly because of features of Norton 360 even though I had (in theory) disabled Norton 360 during the installation of Windows 7. It was taking 28 minutes to start up. Microsoft representative fixed it by disabling/removing Norton 360 and it took about less than one minute to start up (and fixing some inconsistencies with Windows 7 during the installation). By re-enabling Norton 360 after it was reinstalled it now takes about 3+ minutes to start up. So security devices I am guessing adds about 2.5 to 3 minutes of start up time. My computer is relatively new and almost all start up devices are disabled so that could explain why yours may be taking a bit longer.
The other thing you can try doing is go to the Windows box in the lower left corner click it, go t a ll programs, go to accessories and click it to open, go to Run, and type in msconfig and then hit enter. A box should appear, go to the Start up box and see what devices are starting up with your computer. Your computer will start up without any of these checked so uncheck them all and see how long your computer takes to start up. Then do it again after disabling Microsoft Security Essential and your firewall. That should give you a good idea now much additional time the security features are taking to start up your computer.
Hmmmm... why do PC's take so long to boot up and my wife's iPad is instant start and I can be on the web via safari in under 15 seconds. I wonder .....

• I just loaded iTunes 10.5 on my new windows 7 and cannot connect to the store

It sees my phone, syncs, shows my tunes, but I get a blank screen when I try to connect to the store or the help page. When I click on "View My Account" from the Store tab, I get my account info, but only as a text list - no graphics. I ran diagnostics from within iTunes (passed every test) and sent screen shots to support, but was unsuccessful in getting anyone to respond. I'm sure it's a setting somewhere within Windows (maybe???) because I can connect from other computers at my office, just not mine!

No problem, wha. Actually, I'd wanted to speak to you about this one anyway. (Apologies if I'm late to the party about the issue again.)
There's a good solid hint that this one affects Safari for Windows page loads as well as iTunes Store loads. (Presumably, it's via interference with the webkit engine for both applications.) Just the one example to work from so far:
Re: iTunes Store & Safari Won't Load
... but since coming back to ASC last year, I'd also seen some otherwise-mysterious systemwide SfW page-load failures (over at Safari) that I think might bear further investigation along these lines.

Ah yes school boy error there out of frustration and discontent..
My issue is with music/apps/films etc not downloading from iTunes / App Store.
They initially fail and message is displayed stating unable to download / purchase at this time, yet if I retry it says I've already purchased (?) or alternatively I go to the purchased section and there they are waiting with the cloud symbol..
However some items get frozen in the download window and cannot be retried or deleted. Message appears stating to tap to retry, but even if you stole every bath and sink in the uk you'd still not have enough taps.
I post here as the iTunes guys are useless in there 'help' and have only advised posting here or phoning apple, at my expense, to explain a problem that could be rectified by forwarding my original email to a techie. However the tech team apparently don't have an email address as they're from ye olde Middle Ages..!
Anyways I digress.
So I tried sync to pc, but instead of showing the file as ready to listen/use/view, the iCloud symbol shows and I'm back to square one as the item is unable to download..
At frustration station waiting for a train from pain...
All my software is up to date, and had all worked fine prior to the last big iOS update that resulted in all the changes in display and dismay.

• ITunes Match Step 3 doesn't load, Windows Closes iTunes. Solution?

Since October 27, 2013 have not been able to get all 3 steps of the iTunes Match to complete. Steps 1 & 2 load correctly and a green check mark appears for each. However, when things move to Step 3 an error message immediately appears that indicates "iTunes has stopped working", and Windows closes iTunes.
My laptop is running Window 7. Apple Tech Support had me uninstall all components of iTunes and then (re)load the latest version on my laptop. All music in my iTunes library has always played correctly on my iPod Classic. (Note: the iPod Classic has not been synced sinced the problems with the iTunes Match load surfaced as I am fearful of corrupting what's there. Which also means all recent iTunes store purchases cannot be played on the iPod classic until it sync'd.) Accessing the iTunes music library on the iPod Touch shows that some tracks are greyed out and not available which seems consistent with the failure of Step 3 to load. Need help. Thanks.

Hi,
Try holding shift key whilst turning off match. This will clear genius / match cache. Close iTunes then reopen. Turn on match, you will be asked to add this computer, do so and let process complete.
You should also add iCloud status column to song view - menu > view > view options and tick box. This will tell you what has been matched, uploaded, purchased, duplicate or inelligible. It will show tracks that have not been processed as "waiting". If you have any such tracks, one or more may be preventing completion. You may need to remove such tracks and gradually readd until match processes them. This may help identify problem tracks.

You may have to follow the slightly more detailed steps in whichever of these two applies to you.
HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP
HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Rebooting into safe mode may be needed to delete any folder the instructions say you should remove. You may also find this Microsoft Fixit helps to remove stubborn components. It has taken some people several attempts to completely clean iTunes and supporting software before they have been able to successfully reinstall it.

My iMac, OS 10.7.5, is abnormally slow on start-up, taking many minutes for my password sign-in window to show up. I've run Disk Permissions and have verified my hard drive and all is in order. What do I do to start up my Mac in a normal manner?

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged after the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time, not before. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.
